  1. Boy, what game is replaying in my head? I'm slightly reassured. Thanks.
  2. I don't care what happens tonight, just so long as we don't get to Weathers, in which case we'll make him look like we made Fogg look. (Someone should make a list, if it doesn't exist already somewhere here, of all the sub-par pitchers that break our necks with their 80 mph cheese).
  3. The Cubs fans at Wrigley Field are beyond redemption or, for that matter, worthy discussion. It's a truism by this point that they suck. From their inattentiveness to their drunkenness to their boorishness, they are tops in all of baseball. Philly and New York fans are jerks, but at least they pay attention. Cubs fans? The spectacle of them throwing their trash on the field on multiple occasions in recent years-either in celebration or in disgust-is enough of an indictment. And then when they rejoin with this "Cubby" piety, registering in toxic levels of entitlement, it makes it so much the worse. Poor management and bad ownership have conspired to make the franchise an historic shame, but there is little doubt in my heart that it is the corroded character of their fan base that has wrought their fate from the baseball gods.
  4. Well, he has Kenseth overperforming this weekend, which means he will lose the two-man clubhouse NASCAR pool and thus be sent down.
  5. I'll probably get hammered for this but to me they look like talented losers. Talent keeps them in games but the losing mentality of this organization is still too much to shake. Nah. Perfectly undertandable. When Gagne came out at Shea Saturday, I looked around and told everyone that my Slavic sense of shame and doom was kicking in. Until they come home with the gonfallon or a ring, any negativity may hold its rightful place.
  6. Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser. But I still am left with a sense that this is a team that's going to battle and a team that, ultimately, is going to succeed.
  7. Little rally, but whatever. Whenever I think I hate the Cubs more than I hate hell, we play the Cards, and Game Seven memories overcome me.
  8. Gross is starting because he successfully handicapped the last Crafstman Truck Series race.
  9. La Russa is going to make Yost go insane by putting Looper in the six spot, then starting the rest of the lineup alphabetically, since he's good at the alphabet.
  10. What's Sid Ponson doing these days? I hear the Cubs are trying to move Jason Marquis, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Speaking of which, here are the top two similar pitchers to Weaver through age 30, according to BR.com: Jeff Suppan (957) Sidney Ponson (947) That way lies madness: Don't link to Jeff Suppan to see his striking overall similarity to Jaime Navarro.
  11. (Another Shea note: On one of the days, my buddy got in a fight with his girlfriend so she didn't come, leaving us with a last-minute extra seat that we couldn't sell, or didn't really bother to, at least. Dude in a Reyes jersey was in the spare seat. We didn't make him move, but just wanted to be sure that our biggish group was aligning properly. Anyway, Met fan thought we wanted him out, and when our group put our jackets there, we heard muttering the rest of the game from various quarters about these F-bomb Brewers fans: "Who are dese people? What kind of people buy an extra seat for their F-bomb jackets? Is dat what dey do in Milwaukee?" We didn't correct them.)
  12. I was at Shea this weekend and corrected the people taunting Prince by chanting, "Ve-gan. Ve-gan." I told them he was a vegetarian and, oddly, it didn't endear me to them and neither did Rickie Weeks's bat. (By the way, give me the Shea crowd any day of the week versus the Wrigley crowd. As opposed to Cubs fans, they actually know who's on the visiting team's roster. Hell, as opposed to Cubs fans, they actually know who's on THEIIR own roster.)
  13. "If Hitler invaded hell, I should be a friend of the Devil."-Winston S. Churchill. Any loather of the Cubs, even a division rival, gets some regard in my book. Not that I don't want Prince to hit his first three dingers of the year tonight...
  14. Good stuff is good stuff. Of course it's important if he can duplicate it, but you can't fake that kind of movement. Liriano, mentioned above, was unhittable and it was injury, not hype, that doomed him. This kid is the real deal. And I'll be more than happy for the Brewers to give me my comeuppance, since you know they had a whole day off for locker room chatter about the Next Big Thing.
  15. I actually thought he sounded pretty sane when he talked about the bad defense last year. So there's that.
  16. If anyone hears in the intro what hour Yost is going to be on, please report here so I can sneak out to the car...
  17. The goal is to increase sales. I got scammed on the whole glove logo versus new logo a few years ago. The point is to increase the number of products out there, increase debate about it, and increase, ultimately, the number of jerseys made by teenaged Sri Lankans that will be bought. (And yet my vote is "Milwaukee.")
  18. They scare me in the sense that I'm scared of driving down Water Street with all the "expert" midnight drivers. But for real, their rotation, in their best years, was scary. But the injuries will give me sleep at night. You all are smarter than me when it comes to past performance, but all I can say is "W....YZ."
  19. The writer saying that the writer is stretching it to say it's an insult is entirely off his rocker, or at least so says a buddy who was a U.S. consular official in Japan for eight years. "Their (sic) very attuned to American portrayals of Japanese and spend a lot of attention on Japanese players playing in the United States," says the friend, who is an Orioles fan and perhaps speaks better Japanese than English. By the way, how do I get "It's An Accident!" into my endcredit?
  20. Technically, a word is misspelled if the word that is meant to be spelled is not spelled correctly, whether it's a matter of punctuation, the wrong letters or whatever. Like Kerry Woods, for instance, though his case is not merely a matter of misspelling. But yes, I do hope there are plenty of pictures.
