  1. Yeah the whole Win/Loss concept for pitchers is still fun to follow. I like to see who's in line for the win in each game. Don't goalies have Win/Loss records in hockey or am I mistaken?
  2. Yeah I put this out there just for some Food for Thought. No pun intended.
  3. This is based on performance. I think I'm going to come out with more of these for each position. This has been quite fun.
  4. Everett is almost a tweener so that one is tough, but is Drew really that good? He has a .293 OBP. I think he's kind of overrated.
  5. Escobar's OPS is significatly higher than Cabrera's while Escobar plays pretty darn good defense. Remember, my tiers are based on 2008 not over a career. If it was over a career, Vizquel would be way higher. Unless you think Cabrera's defense is that much better than Escobar, I think my categorization is valid. I think I agree with that as well. Everett's bat is just plain bad, but his defense is about as good as it gets. That should be enough to get into tier 3. For me, in order to get into tier 2 in today's game, you have to have the bat along with it, but tier 3 is fine. I will edit my initial post. I think I changed my mind on Derek Jeter as well so I'm going to move him down to tier 3. His OPS just isn't good enough for tier 2, while his defense has declined over the years.
  6. I definitely can see that point of view. The reason I put him in tier 2 was because of the injury he had so I didn't have much to go on for 2008. What is your justification for putting Cabrera in tier 2? His bat has been pretty weak.
  7. That's a tough one. I'd prolly put ARod above them all and rank them as such: ARod Ramirez Rollins Tejada Jeter Reyes Nomar That's just my initial feeling though. I could be convinced otherwise.
  8. If you read my post again, you'll see that I didn't rank Hardy as the 13th best SS. I just put him in the 3rd tier. Also, I didn't put the tiers evenly disbursed for a reason. I wouldn't consider Tejada in the same tier as Hanley Ramirez, but if I were to split them evenly then he would be. I think I agree with you on those after thinking about it some more. I will edit my initial post. Theriot is an interesting one though because he has a horrible offensive track record before this year, but his defense isn't good enough probably to be in tier 3 despite the job he has done at the plate this year. I think an OPS over 800 with the great defense he plays is enough justification for tier 1.
  9. This is how I would categorize the shortstops in MLB in 2008: Tier 1 Hanley Ramirez Jimmy Rollins Jose Reyes Tier 2 Miguel Tejada Troy Tulowitski Yunel Escobar Michael Young Tier 3 Derek Jeter Rafael Furcal Orlando Cabrera Edgar Renteria JJ Hardy Johnny Peralta Adam Everett Tier 4 C. Guzman Ryan Theriot Khalil Greene Jack Wilson Jerry Hairston Bobby Crosby Y. Betancourt Stephan Drew David Eckstein Tier 5 M. Izturis Jason Bartlett Julio Lugo Brendan Ryan Omar Vizquel Freddie Bynum Tony Pena Note that I didn't actually rank the shortstops. I just put them in tiers so if one is higher than the other within a tier, that doesn't necessarily mean I think they are better. I think that is a fair categorization for Hardy. Although I wouldn't have put him that high had he not played so well in the past month. I tried to weigh in both offense and defense. Did I make any clear blunders?
  10. That's really good attendance considering most WCHA hockey arenas don't hold nearly as many fans.
  11. Good to know for when I use your tickets on Sunday! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  12. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=767855 Thats kind of interesting.
  13. You know why? Because if you say Wisconsin, you've said it all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  14. Yeah I haven't checked the site last night so I had to respond to some disagreements I had from posts throughout the day. Sorry for the overlap on your stuff. I am in complete agreement with your posts.
  15. At Miller Park we have a bunch of drunks at the game as well but they seem to be happy drunks that run on the field and go "Weeee!". Would you rather have happy drunks or angry drunks? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  16. No. Prince just played his way out of the all-star game and all it took was 7 bad games.
  17. I now love the White Sox for sweeping the Cubs this weekend. Any team that plays the Cubs is my 2nd favorite team in baseball for that day.
  18. Yes. This is true. Yost has been known to say one thing to the media and do another so I would take anything he says at full price.
  19. I second the previous post and nice job with the in depth analysis. Melvin indeed isn't a top 5 GM, but 6th to 12th is spot on.
  20. The Twins finished 9 games ahead of the White Sox in 2004. They finished 4 games ahead in 2003. They finished 13.5 games ahead in 2002. Is that a characteristic of a competitive and strong division? I don't think so. If you go back and read my previous posts, I did say that the Twins have a good team and have done a nice job. The whole point of me starting this thread was to make the argument that they have gotten a lot of breaks along the way. That is exactly my line of thinking as well. I'm sure it's high enough to drive the Sabremetric people nuts.
  21. That is probably true. I don't have much to go on when I say that. I've only been to the city about 10 times and have never lived there for a long period of time. But I can think of a lot of places I'd rather be in this world than Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  22. Ok, but if you're going to make that comparison, you have to factor 2 things: A) How high the drafts picks the Rays have gotten in the past few years B) How many draft choices they've had in the past few years. I would imagine both of those go in favor of the Rays over the Brewers.
  23. The Twins have said "No" to that question in the last 10 years and have been set on their ways of spending the least amount of money as possible. All you have to do is look at their DH's in those years. They refuse to pay the DH a big time salary. It is their model though, and it sure has gotten them to the playoffs. All I'm saying is they've had a lot of luck on their side throughout the years, and they got plenty of that going for them again in 2008. Does anyone think that the Twins won't have as high of a batting average in their new stadium because they won't get so many "dome" hits where the ball takes high bounces and comes at a faster speed to the infielders? I sure do.
  24. It would have been nice for the Brewers to be in the horrible AL Central division of those years.
  25. Option C would be the worst one because he'd still be on our payroll. I wouldn't mind A or B. This is assuming he pitches poorly when he comes back. Heck, maybe he'll be the answer to our current hole in 8th inning relief.
