  1. I almost find it offensive that the Twins announcers said that. Minneapolis is one of the least favorite cities that I've been to and I consider myself pretty well traveled. It is so spread out with so bad of traffic and so much construction. This is just my opinion, but I am not impressed with the city. My brother goes to St. Olaf University and has a differing opinion, so it must be just me.
  2. It works when you are getting paid 10 million dollars in one season compared to whatever DiFelice is getting.
  3. It's definitely different. I'll agree with you on that, but if I had to watch 20 home games a year there, I would go nuts.
  4. The Brewers will give Matt LaPorta the everyday 1B job if we would happen to trade Prince in the offseason (which I hope we do). I'd say LaPorta is plan A, and Gamel is plan B.
  5. I think that is taking Melvin for granted and what he's done. Those teams you mentioned there like the Twins have gotten some very lucky breaks in the process that Melvin hasn't gotten. The Diamondbacks had a bigger pocketbook to go out and get Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling and the same applies to the Tigers because they are bigger markets. The fact that the Brewers are making more money than ever and might get 3 million people in the seats in the 2008 season is due to Doug Melvin building a talented team with great players to watch. The talent is here now that Melvin has gotten it. Now, it's just a matter of making it happen. If I'm going to give anyone heat for the Brewers under performing, I'm not going to blame Doug Melvin. Do you realize the number of high draft choices the Rays have gotten in the past 10 years from being so bad? This is why I'm so excited about the Brewers drafting 7 players in the first 3 rounds this year, because I see teams like the Rays and how good they can turn out to be. And guess who acquired all those draft picks? Mr. Doug Melvin.
  6. Yeah and the frustrating part of that is they usually play their best baseball against us no matter what. Do you know the Brewers adjusted record? As a matter of fact I do. The AL Central was a weak division when they were winning it, and that is pretty much proven by them losing in the first round of the playoffs every year to better competition. That said, the AL Central is very good this year and was last year, and the Twins won't and haven't been in the playoffs either year. See a pattern? The Twins have done a nice job building a team and have some good players, but they've gotten a lot of breaks in the process.
  7. I agree 100%. What Melvin has done with the limited resources he has compared to the Cubs and other large market teams is remarkable. I think the team is headed in the right direction with all of the draft picks generated from Linebrink and Cordero leaving (Melvin acquisitions). It doesn't hurt that he has Jack Z as his scouting director, but you can't do much more with the hand that Melvin was dealt than he has so far with the Milwaukee Brewers.
  8. I was at the game yesterday (Saturday) and it was my first time to the Metrodome and it really helped me appreciate the greatness of Miller Park. It's not that fun to have your seat angled towards centerfield and have to crouch over to see anything while sitting on the 3rd base line. Also, it gets so quiet in that stadium that I'm afraid to yell anything or security will escort me out. Even though the new Twins stadium will be outdoors, I'd take 10 game postponements per year over that dome thing.
  9. Reported by Craig Coshun on FSN.
  10. After seeing the Twins for 6 games and looking at the stats, I have come to conclude that just about everything is going their way right now. They have mediocre pitching (18th in the Majors in ERA). They have little power (3rd last in home runs in baseball) while 7th overall in runs scored in MLB. And most of their runs come with 2 out RISP base hits. If I had to guess, the Twins will fall into a hitting slump and end up at about 3rd place in the AL Central behind by a large margin. Why did all of this luck have to be in June against the Milwaukee Brewers!!!
  11. That's true, but that's what makes sports so fun to me. I like to be able to give credit based on observations and not have to prove them. As a computer programmer, I have to prove stuff all the time when diagnosing support items, and sports/baseball is a nice break from that. I do concede that I have no proof, though, that this is Yost's doing in 1 run games. If I had to point to the biggest reason for winning these 1 run games, I'd say Solomon Torres. It's nice to have a closer that can slam the door.
  12. I wouldn't worry about it. Melvin is one of the best GM's in baseball and has gone on the record saying some of his prospects are untouchable so it won't happen. If we get Sabathia, it will be at the right price.
  13. Why bring it up? Because it is a valid point. If we had a bad record in those games, most people would be pointing to Yost as the reason. So since we have a good record, I am giving some credit to Yost. As much as you think I'm trying to cause trouble, I'm really not. I'm just trying to make a valid point which was seconded by the previous post.
  14. I think it's time we become Detroit Tigers fans so they pull way ahead of Cleveland and they start selling off their pieces AKA Sabathia. I wonder if the Indians would be interested in Salome.
  15. That's a good point because maybe the offers won't be good enough in the offseason. We are in no rush to trade anyone on the roster at this point so this would give us time to get the best deal.
  16. I think Don is going too but he doesn't really post here anymore so I'll just relay the message for him that he will be there.
  17. After hearing Melvin on WSSP this morning, all signs show that Hart will be offered again, but not until the offseason. Look for us to be able to lock up Hart long term sometime this winter.
  18. I never said that I was giving him direct credit. I just give him some credit. That's just my opinion though.
  19. I'm not saying there was a direct correlation. I'm just saying there is some credit that should be given to Yost even though that is the unpopular thing to say. I don't really need to prove it either. I just want my team to win.
  20. So should the manager get no credit at all then? I gave you things that Yost did that seemed to lead to these victories. I guess it was just blind luck then.
  21. This is why I firmly believe a trade will be made. We have many pieces of value being prospects or players on our major league roster. I think this offseason is going to be an active one for the Brewers, and the 2009 team could have a whole new flavor.
  22. I could provide factual basis, like going to Solomon Torres as closer, using the "No Doubles" defense after the 7th inning, Walking batters to face guys that are a better matchup such as last night when Gotay was walked to face the backup catcher. If you want facts, I'll give you them.
  23. Do I dare that saying part of the reason we have a good record in 1 run games is having a good manager?
  24. I'd take a look at David Welch. He's 8-1 this year for Huntsville with a 3.34 ERA. He also threw a no hitter this year in one of his games. His strikeout totals aren't as high as you would like, but he's 24 and there's room for improvement. I think Steve Hammond will at least start the year in Spring Training as well as a starter and be one of our top options in AAA. Also, Prince could be traded for top notch pitching so there are options.
  25. You could always DFA Bill Hall. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
