What's wrong with the 1-game wildcard setup

I like it because it gives a larger advantage to the 3 teams that win their division and also increases the advantage to the team with the better wild card record. My issue with the system is that the team with the 5th best record could bring out a super hot pitcher and ride him to the DS.. Yeah your pen will be tired and you may have some issues with some starting pitching depth, but next season win your division. I don't care if a team wears out their pen for the next round. I care about who moves on being decided by a crapfest of pitching. Honest question. Why would it be a crapfest? Teams would still use their 1 through 3 starters if possible. -
Except a hitter not being able to make split second decisions well on pitches being thrown at different spots, speeds, curves, etc., isn't quite the same as a player having time before a play even begins to know that he doesn't need to get to 3rd base. It would be more like a hitter with a 3-0 count, with the bases loaded, and 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th of a tied game swinging at the next pitch. You just don't do it, unless you're really REALLY sure you're going to get a hit. Besides Villar getting chucked at 3rd, another low moment, decision wise this year.... The day is July 3. The Brewers are down 9-4 in the ninth against Cards. Braun, Luc single. Carter is hit by pitch. On a 3-0 count, down 5 mind you,bases loaded, Hill is swinging 3-0 and fouls it back....... Down 5. A double play would kill the rally. A homer or walk are about the same thing here. Anyways, Hill does walk eventually. Kirk doubles and is stranded to lose 9-8. Although easy to gloss over because Hill walked, I couldn't believe that he swung. Like usual, I didn't hear from any a Brewer media if CC had take sign up or if Hill missed sign or if CC expected him not to swin, etc. Are you upset with Villar or with the coaching staff? The general rule of thumb is to take 3-0, but I have heard vets get a green light if it's the exact pitch they are looking for.

I imagine he is bringing it up because the good things he does out weighs the bad. His base running appears to be a skill he lacks. Obviously it needs to improve. The staff is working on that without giving stop signs.

Someone last Sunday told me they had clocks in the team store for $40. I didn't look for myself. Interesting. I was looking at tickets for that game on the secondary market and most were really expensive. I was shocked, but apparently people understood the value of the clocks.

This basically shows that the staff is aware of it and are trying to educate him to become smarter. They do however mention that they aren't putting stop signs up, but are trying to educate him a different way. Isn't that what you/others are hoping for? It sounds like the staff just doesn't think he's mature (they use the word smartly) enough. To me this could be chalked up to growing pains.

Too late. A friend and I already came up with that idea Friday night. Fine. We can split it. I imagine it's only a matter of time before someone actually does make it, and with the zombie craze in kids I'm sure it'll be a gold mine.

They should make a zombie go app, or walking dead go. You walk around and run into zombie hoards...some big, some small. You can either try to fight them or run away, where you actually have to run. You can pick up new weapons at 'stores/hot spots'. Train your 'character' to become stronger. Now, someone smarte than me go make it and give me some of the profits.

I assume it's because they have scored less runs than the other team more often. Honestly though, they do not have a great team. They have a strong bullpen, 3 solid guys in the rotation, and 4 or 5 strong to really good position players. It's not surprising to see them play poorly. To me, Villar's boneheaded plays aren't whats keeping us from being a good team. Why are people equating Villar's bad base-running to how good our team is? Are we trying to cover this up and pretend this isn't stupid baseball? If we were in 1st place, this is an issue. If we're in last place, this is an issue. If Joe Schmo in AA Biloxi is doing the same, it is an issue. This thread is long because the problem is still a problem, and the problem (Villar stealing 3rd with two outs for his personal glory/stats/money) is a very fixable one (manager says stop). Not sure if you're responding to me directly, but my response was to the post above.

We gave up quite a bit to get that package. Looking at that trade the day it happened the return wasn't that incredible. This trade however...looks quite amazing for the Padres right now. I suppose it depends how you feel about what we gave up. I personally thought Gogo was going to drop a bit, so it surely seems we got a better deal. To me at least. -
You couldn't care less? Sounds like Villar's attitude... To me, I care about shooting ourself in the foot time and time again with zero change. Sounds like Altuve needs to clean up his baserunning too. Good try in trying to justify stupidity. Villar, having a great season, not arguing that. I'm not upset when he gets caught stealing second, especially when there is two outs and he is trying to get into scoring position. Hustle plays, same thing..... There is a time and place to try to stretch singles to doubles, doubles to triples. The reward is great enough to take on the risk. However, the man hasn't a clue how to decipher when to go or not and sadly needs to start being held accountable for the same mistakes time and time again..... Five unforced outs at 3B???? Not including stolen bases? And we're just at the All-Star break? This is a great season for all players, including the young good ones like Villar, to be taught. I was simply showing a similar player that I assume most would have no issue with if he was on our team. Guy gets on base a lot and tries to make plays on the bases. I consider them similar (in no way am I saying Villar is Altuve).

Breaking them down: 3 at first, 5 at 3rd (!!) and 2 at home. By comparison, Lucroy, Braun and Carter have made a total of 8 outs on the bases. Everybody that is defending Villar, read this info again! Ten unforced errors on the bases! Five at third! I have played ball for decades and cannot remember any whole team of mine getting chucked at 3rd 5 times in one season ( unforced). Great info! Source? You seem most upset by the outs created at 3rd...any outs on the bases are bad. With that being said, I personally am not going to hate a guy that is getting on base at a 380 clip and attempts to make plays. It's the see reason why I liked Gomez. He goes out and hustles. Does he make bone headed plays? Yes, but I imagine he's also created plays by running all over the field too. Perhaps there are things going on behind the closed doors that we don't know about. Perhaps he is still learning, or perhaps he will just never get it. I couldn't care less. Just out of curiosity I went to bref and check Altuves stats from last year. He made 19 outs on the bases with 5 being at 3rd and 8 at home. I

It's funny that the only people getting mentioned as snubs are 2 pirate outfielders...no mention of Braun and being 3rd in OPS.

Indians and Blue Jays went 19 innings today and Toronto had 2 position players pitch. Goins pitched and gave up no runs. Then Barney came in and gave up a home run.
