  1. Not sure, honestly. Maybe the receptionist/scheduler doesn't know the ins-and-outs of the hospital's policies? Here is the actual order, for those that haven't read it: https://evers.wi.gov/Documents/COVID19/EMO12-SaferAtHome.pdf The only restrictions actually placed on healthcare providers is that 'telehealth services should be used where feasible'. Most of the hospital 'elective procedure' cancellations were enacted by the hospitals themselves prior to the 'stay at home' order itself. I think this is part of an even greater issue. No one reads information for themselves and when they do they struggle to figure out what to believe and not to believe. This has out tremendous pressure on a lot of people, and I admittedly have it relatively easy compared to most, but I too am shocked we haven't demanded more from our government. And I am not just talking about money either, but it is eye opening seeing how little America is getting compared to others around the world.
  2. Their governor is a moron. Plain and simple. Didn't do anything around social distancing, until April 2nd. Re-opened beaches which Tybee and Savannah had shut down weeks earlier during that same order. COVID has been in the news for months now. It's been made pretty clear how to avoid getting it and spreading it. People are going to do what people are going to do. Unless you want to put armed guards at everyone's door to make sure they never leave the house people are going to go outside and do stuff and probably congregate together. Except that the Governor of Georgia literally came out like a week ago and said that they just found out that it lays dormant for 14 days. So no, either he lied or intentionally didnt make it clear. I do think some people are going to defy orders, sure, but for the most part I think people are taking this seriously. At least that's what I've seen in my smallish town.
  3. Yea. Online learning is starting to lose its luster to the kids too. Guess I'll have to try and set up a google meet to see some of my student faces. Honest question for those of you who are teachers/administrators - for students not planning to graduate high school, how difficult would it be for states to just end the current school year pronto or end of April, with the plan of finishing that last month in August in a classroom setting before sending the kids to the next grade up when school is scheduled to resume around labor day weekend? Wouldn't that be a better option than forcing both kids and teachers to try and limp along poorly with elearning programs that drive parents insane trying help with - particularly those who are trying to WFH and have elementary aged children who aren't Bill Gates - tech savvy, or even harder on parents who are teachers and have to do lesson planning + make sure their own kids are "in school"?? Good question. I do have a suspicion that our district will cancel the rest of the year early, but how much early I dont know. I feel like lengthening the year by starting in August would get a lot of kick back from parents and probably staff too. I know I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but would do it if that's what they decide. It would make our tennis season challenging as the girls play a lot of matches in August during the day. Our school board just passed 2 days of distant learning per year for next year, so we are going to have 2 online days to practice for this sort of thing/snow days in the future.

  5. When schools were closed (however long ago that was) our AD emailed all the coaches about when we could potentially start back up and saying WIAA rules say you have to have 7 practices before your first competition. We only need 4 practices before our first competition. You are right though, the spring season stinks for weather. I can't imagine we are going back either, but my principal just told us today Evers has a meeting tomorrow(or something soon) where they will advise the next steps. I will be shocked if we are able to have a season at all as well.
  6. There will be no spring sports this year. I don't know how anyone could think that there is a possibility that they might happen. We were told to plan a short conference schedule with the tournament series to follow.
  7. I agree with some of what you said, but it's easy for me to say those things when my decisions dont have a direct impact on people dying. The people making these decisions are making life and death decisions and I don't think I would be willing to put people's lives at risk if I made the wrong choice. The old better safe than sorry.
  8. Watching a 1 year old. Playing online poker with friends and some video games late into the night. Oh yea, setting up lessons and grading too.
  9. I did betonline and still have money there, but I cashed out a pretty sizable sum and it was in the form of a check...from the Bank of Shanghai. Pretty sketchy. It went through, but I'm still nervous about it. No fee to purchase, but the withdrawal fee was pretty big, like 50$. Had your typical ring game blinds. I just deposited money on global poker. You buy gold coins and get sweeps cash for free. Sweeps cash is real money. They have SnGs, tournys, and ring games. Been pretty good so far, although I havent cashed from their yet. No fee to purchase sweeps cash, but I just put money on like 2 weeks ago and I've already gotten 3 offers for free sweepscash. For example, one was buy 20 get 10 free. Buy 30 get 20 free. They have your typical ring game blinds. My friends and I have been playing private games on a site called donkhouse and then one person is the banker and everyone venmos the banker and the banker pays at the end of the night.
  10. I have tickets for Deftones/Gojira in August and I'm already starting to see the handwriting on the wall for that. Rock USA for me. I've tried to see Rob Zombie for 3 years now. Last 2 years have been cancelled due to lightning...
  11. My buddy is an EMT in Seattle and I spoke with him last night. He said Washington is probably the best place to be in the US right now because everyone is actually following the guidelines. FWIW, he basically scolded one of our other friends via videochat for not taking this as seriously as he thought he should.
  12. Wife works for a company that does a lot of work with China. My wife is relatively high up. They had a meeting today with some of their China contacts and they said the virus is starting to make a reappearance/uptick because people went back to doing same old things and not washing or taking precautions. Hopefully it's just a blip because thay would suck.
  13. Nice day today and parks are packed with kids.
  14. Yea. It's going to be the old saying, it's going to get worse before it gets better.
  15. I've won 2 online tournys, buy in between 20 and 50...cant recall, but both wins were with a thousand to 2k people in it. Won them on back to back nights when I had to have some surgery done. Funnily enough I played maybe a hand an hour both times until the money and then got hot.
  16. I teach 3rd grade. We are using google classroom and have between 2 and 4 hours a day planned. Everyday I have 30 to 40 min of math planned. A lesson in their book and then a virtual lesson then 1 problem they turn in to be graded. Reading lesson about 30 to 40 minutes where they read or lesson to a book and answer a question, then some independent reading. Writing lesson for about 20 to 30 min. Then a social studies or science lesson for a out 20 to 30 minutes. Then they also have to do a music lesson twice a week, art once a week, and phy ed daily. The specials lessons are from those departments and involve a walk around the block, playing catch outside, watching youtube videos about music notes, drawing a photo for art, etc. I have to have to have 2 hours of office hours daily, but will be available almost all day. I have meetings with my building and with my grade level once a week to help with planning, questions, etc. Our first day in Monday. I am curious how it's going to go...I have already been answering questions this week during 'spring break'. Most exhausting spring break I've ever had.
  17. I read about a 21 year old who was posting videos about how she isnt going to get it, yadda yadda yadda, she has it now. Now shes trying to tell people how painful it can be and basically said she didnt care and her and her friends would meet up and go about life as normal. Now shes regretting that. Shocker.

  19. Throw processing fees in general on that. Bought concert tickets over the winter they were like 89$. With taxes and fees it came to over 120 per ticket.
  20. Yea, our only days off are holidays as well, but the kids get random days throughout where we do more PD.
  21. We go 8 to 4. So is that all instructional time? I have last hour prep, so in my non-coaching seasons I can leave at 1:10 as long as I’m not needed to sub. 8 to 830 is before school prep. 830 to 845 is morning check in/routine 845 to 10 is math 10 to 1015 recess 1015 to 1130 snack/reading, grammar, etc 1130 to 1215 lunch/lunch recess 1225 to 125 various prep time from pe, music, art, library, etc 125 to 2 writing 2 to 315 I teach math to the other 3rd grade class and they get SS, science, handwriting with my colleague 315 to 335 is 'study hall' where we give them time to get homework done/ask for help 335 to 340 is check out 340 to 4 is after school prep So yea, our schedule sucks. That's an elementary schedule too. I think it's awful. Our day used to be shorter and ended at 307. The kids are usually checked out by 230-3ish. Edit: just to continue my rant, we have 5 in service days before school starts and we do not get any days off during the year. When students have off we still have to go in for in service days. This includes going in after conferences where we stay until 730-8ish. Now, theyve also added 24 hours of professional development that is required or you get docked your hourly rate. The issue there is those 24 hours are spread over multiple days because the courses they offer are all 2-4 hours. We've had massive staff turnover the last 2 or 3 years. Oh yea, they also just cut our retirement benefits and put us into 3 groups based on experience. Basically screwed anyone that wasnt able to retire within 2 years and really screwed those with 10 or less. I was at 9 years and had planted my family here.
  22. Sean Dhoogie transfering to Arizona State.
  23. A guy I know in New York had symptoms for 13 days. They wouldn't test him. Finally he was bad enough for ER and they tested him. 4 days it took for results. He has it. 17 days he officially had it. Fortunately he quarantined himself and wasnt selfish. This is a problem. They need to do a better job of making tests available.
  24. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/28915817/bpi-projects-how-2020-ncaa-tournament-played-out Badgers win the simulated BPI title! Guess they should hang the banner.
