  1. Not sure why they are considering moving Sunday start times, as during the summer those are almost always sellouts, and what's the difference between 1:10 and 1:40? Perhaps to give churchgoers more time to get to the stadium?
  2. The "aaaahigottago close" is pure genius on his part. He gets to end interviews whenever HE wants to; and, as George Costanza finally learned, it is wise to "always leave 'em wanting more."
  3. I was a bit taken aback by Gamel sitting in favor of McGehee tonight. If Gamel is going to be our everyday 1b next year, he's going to be playing against LHP as well as RHP, and at this point I'd much rather have Gamel in the lineup vs any kind of pitcher than McGehee vs anything but a batting tee.
  4. McGehee to dh tonight, Josh Wilson at 3b, Gamel sits.
  5. but I think most who follow the crew would disagree with your statement right there. Not me. I would definitely agree with sending Casey down to get regular at bats as opposed to being the short end of a platoon. I'd like him to have every opportunity to get back on track as long as it doesn't continue to hurt the big club.
  6. Pessimist! 24-3. Anyone who disagrees is a Cubs fan and probably a commie. I like the way you think.
  7. 20-7. My optimism is unkillable.
  8. I'd like to see Estrada go down to get stretched out for starting again. He seems to be a much better starter than he is a reliever.
  9. The question for me would be "has Gamel become 'seasoned' enough to do well in a limited playing time scenario?" It sure didn't seem to help him any when Macha let him rot on the bench.
  10. I disagree. As wrong as it may be, I enjoy watching a good car crash now and then.
  11. My kid brother and some of his friends used to party with Davis in New Berlin. His description of Davis in a bar matches what's in the link to the letter. I don't know that that adds any credibility to the rest of the story, but Davis "getting tanked and tossing around hundreds" would appear to be spot on.
  12. And typing in capital letters is against forum rules. (thank God)I thought it was using all caps that was against the rules, as well it should be. I should have italicized "to" in order to give it the proper emphasis. Thanks for setting me straight.
  13. It seems like the Cubs fans as well as their local media-coverage guys always think they're getting whomever is the "hot" free agent to be at any given time. I sure hope they're wrong about this one.
  14. LOL really? My goodness...that's not far from forum police at all. Substituting "speak" for "talk". Substituting "speak" for "talk" was an accident, as was substituting "doesn't" for "don't". I guess my fingers can't help but type things in the same manner in which I'd say them. I wasn't trying to correct his grammar, I was attempting to lightly point out that substituting "2" for "to" and things of that nature have generally been frowned upon by the bosses here (thank God). My question to you is, did you really "laugh out loud?" If so, you must be very easily amused.
  15. It's a great dilemma to be in, for sure. The best part is, I wouldn't dread Wolf starting it either. He's been awfully good. Being a game 7, there would be a little time off afterwards, so I wouldn't mind using a combination of starters as dlk9s suggests. Maybe not set innings, but a quick hook with the next starter as relief. I loved it when AZ used Schilling/Johnson in a single game.
  16. I'd lift his wallet and then give him a knee to the groin while untucking my shirt and laughing maniacally.
  17. A sleep disorder isn't going to cause you to show up late. That is woefully incorrect. A person with a sleep disorder may awaken and get out of bed when the alarm goes off just fine, then doze off at the table having breakfast... or sitting down to put on their socks and shoes.... or even in the car at a stop sign or red light. There is a gigantic difference in a sleep disorder and "I'm a little tired."
  18. They may be hoping he'll get "the rest of the way fixed" shortly enough so that a second DL stint won't be necessary. With CPAP there are literally thousands of different masks/headgears from which to choose. It can take time to find the right setup and get comfortable with it (if Apnea is even his problem). As a former boss, my greatest pet peeve was a guy showing up late. Guys that were habitually late were gone. Quickly. Braddock showing up late on a regular basis might be disruptive to day to day operations, yet still be forgivable due to it being a medical issue. Maybe this is Roenicke saying "Zach, we just can't have this disruption all the time. We gotta send you down until this is fully under control." My guess is just a guess like any other, but I've had Apnea for 20+ years now and have worked closely with professionals in the industry on new equipment and therapies. I can easily see the above scenario, or others along the same lines, happening. Sleep disorders can be tricky.
  19. You guys are way too quick to read stuff into this that may or may not be there. Perhaps he has Apnea, and has been prescribed CPAP. It often takes one weeks, if not months, to become adjusted to CPAP and reap the full benefits. He may very well be "half fixed."
  20. My favorite was in 2006 (I think) when they wore the Milwaukee Bears of the Negro Leagues uni's. White with black pinstripes, Milwaukee in block letters across the jersey and a block "M" on the cap. I believe there were also stirrups. Here it is, on the left.
