  1. It seems pretty even to me. Thatcher is the replacement, Inman is in case Thatcher doesn't work out, and Garrison is the long term prospect. The biggest question mark to me is Inman. If he blows out his arm tomorrow, the Brewers are geniuses, if he goes to the Hall of Fame, this is a bust trade. I think we'll have to wait a few years to see how this one works out. It seems strange that the Padres would sell at all, being a game and a half up on the Cubs in the Wild Card.
  2. I live in Chicago, so I have no problem with sample size when it comes to Cubs fans. I thought that this woman would know what she was talking about. She came up to me and said, "Turnbow's gonna lose all your games for you."
  3. Over the winter I went from 235 to where I am at 165. Whe I was losing, the biggest thing for me was portion control. When I went to Subway I didn't get the footlong, I got the 6 inch sub. I'd have the bowl at Chipotle instead of the burrito and I'd only eat half of it. When I cooked for myself, I would cook half as much as I used to. Also, I'm a lousy cook, so I really never want to eat very much of what I cook. That was really the catalyst for me. One of the biggest foods for me that helped me lose weight was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. As long as you don't use too much peanut butter, they're not bad for you. I cut out fried food all together (french fries) and most backyard food (hamburgers, hot dogs, brats (but I'd still have 1 at Miller Park)). And I stopped eating at the higher fat fast food places. I also cut out drinking soda and only had beer on the weekends. Also I started working out 5-6 times a week, doing 30 minutes on the treadmill or exercise bike. I haven't lifted nearly as much as I should, but lifting weights helps too. Losing weight is about changing the way you think and act.

  5. It's kind of like the minor league AFL. I knew a guy that went to a Chicago Slaughter game and he said it was kind of mediocre.
  6. On a similar note, the other day I'm driving home at 3AM on Sunday morning from a friend's house and had the displeasure of listening to Tim Montemayor on Sporting News radio who proclaimed the the Brewers were "done." That, "We saw this happening to Sheets." "Capuano is done." "Rickie Weeks sucks." and that "Suppan was horrible and will be awful next start." I'd suggest not listening to the moron who didn't back up his claims that the Cubs were the second coming.
  7. Cubs fans don't have any clue what they're talking about. Just the other day I ran into a "huge Cubs fan" who "loves baseball" who had no idea that there was a team called the Orioles that played in Baltimore. I kind of scratched my head and changed the subject.
  8. Yay Soup! Does anyone else find it sort of ironic that on Cerveceros day there's no Latino players in either line up?
  9. Not to stray completely off course here, but Katherine Heigl's best role was in Under Siege 2. Which happens to be a great movie.
  10. Nader Raider Tim is a wise man. Plus she peed her pants on stage. It bugs me that if you go to Subway the people making your sub get all annoyed when you want more than lettuce on your sub. I mean you're paid to put vegetables on there, if I want all the vegetables, you're going to put them all on there.
  11. I'll have to admit, I think the Real World/Road Rules Challenge could replace the NHL for the 4th major sport in the U.S.
  12. Chris Berman has to be the worst announcer in sports. He's worse than Santo. But yeah, the Home Run Derby was totally unwatchable this year. I watched Prince and that was it.
  13. It's defiantly a stand-up thing for them to do. If the coaches were that concerned about the payers they would have sent the guys they cared about back into the dugout anyway. It strikes me that nowadays there's not a machine to lay the tarp for them.
  14. He just strikes me as one of those race-baiting/political party-baiting columnists that really have very little substantially to say about anything. For those of your with birds, they're the best sections for cage lining.
  15. I think we need to send Prince down. It's obvious from the Home Run Derby that he's got a huge hole in his swing and can't hit batting practice pitches that are away from him. Also fire whoever was pitching to him.
  16. I'm doing this for sure, coming up from Chicago so I'll probably get a hotel room for Friday night so I don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to make it up there on time.
  17. Has anyone ever done this? I enjoy running a 5K here and there, and a ticket voucher for a game would be a pretty solid reward for running 3 miles. If you have done it, is it like a race at all or do people just kind of run at whatever pace they want.
  18. I'm more forgiving to Weeks because if you look at it, in the Brewers' infield, you've got 2 All-Stars and a guy that might have been an all-star if he started the season with the club (Braun). I think it's semi-unfair to think that all 4 of the infielders should be All-Star caliber hitters. Plus hitting is not the entire game. Only Fielder has a better fielding percentage than Weeks, (.985 to .978) and you'd have to imagine that second base gets quite a few more chances than first base. Also, Weeks has 6 errors, to Braun's 7, Hardy's 8, and Fielder's 10.
  19. So by Sackmann's logic, you line up the pitchers by ERA, I'm leaving out Villanueva since his was a spot start: Sheets 3.19 Gallardo 3.68 Capuano 4.28 Vargas 4.29 Suppan 4.90 Bush 5.11 Ok, then you say that probably a rotation spot would be 18 games at this point, so Pitcher Games ERA Sheets 17 3.19 Gallardo 1 3.68 #1 Total 18 3.44 Gallardo 2 3.68 Capuano 14 4.28 Vargas 2 4.29 #2 Total 18 4.08 Vargas 12 4.29 Suppan 6 4.90 #3 Total 18 4.60 Suppan 12 4.90 Bush 6 5.11 #4 Total 18 5.00 Bush 10 5.11 #5 Total 10 5.11 So I guess according to the numbers, either Cappy or Vargas is our #2, but it's kind of remarkable that between the "#1 starter" and the "#2 starter" and the "#2 starter" and "#3 starter" the ERA goes up half a run. Just for kicks though, the Brewers score an average of 4.96 runs per game, so really the Brewers should be able to cover over any of the pitchers besides Dave Bush. I don't know 100% if my math is right there though.
  20. Button Gwinett...still the best name ever in American poltics. Happy 231st America, you don't look a year over 220!
  21. Cats Cradle is the best Vonnegut. I think even better than Slaughterhouse 5. It's also my favorite book of all time. 1984 by Orwell is a great book, but it's kind of depressing. For non-fiction books, if you're kind of a history guy like me, check out Antony Beevor's book The Fall of Berlin. It's written from a Russian history perspective and puts a really interesting spin on the war. Kind of on the other side, I just got done with Michael Crichton's book State of Fear, it's lousy, skip it.
  22. They're ok. I've used one for a little bit now. Like Brian said, it's not going to be a heavy duty vacumn, but for simple jobs it works pretty well. I can only use it to vacumn off my tile kitchen floor, it won't work on the thick carpet of my apartment.
  23. Does this mean they'll have to extend the show an hour to accommodate the fact that he pauses between every third word? Mary....what is your bid....on the dinette set?
  24. The one I've never understood is when people start booing pitchers making repeated pickoff moves. It's not like after the 6th pick off move in a row, the guy is going to get picked off.
