The nice thing is if Gagne holds up and I think he will.. is that Ned can bring either Torres, Mota, or Riske in early if he needs a critical out without exposing himself in the 8th.. Of course being relief pitchers they all will blow up occasionally but if you look at the choices last year to this year I have much more confidence in our pen this year especially when Bush replaces McClung next week. I agree and I too think Gagne will be just fine. I was at the sat game against the Giants and I was sitting 10 rows behind home plate and his change-up/splitter or whatever it is looked just filthy and I think his velocity is only going to get better and he is already at 94-95.
I actually am a fan of Gross. I think he is a great bench player. I have said before and you made the point above - when Gross plays, he belongs in right, not center. Especially when we have Cameron, Kapler, Hart, and Gwynn on the team
All good questions. I just can't wait to watch Cam track down balls in center. Once Braun gets comfortable, we should be terrific defensively in the OF. I'm torn on the 8th inning man because I really like Torres, but he is so valuable in his abiltiy to go 2+ innings
I never said a word about anything making a full season. I just don't think you can argue with how Kapler is seeing the ball right now. Kapler's OPS = 1.410 Gross's OPS = .367
And that dictates that Gross should be playing over Kapler right now? I have never liked how wrapped up Ned gets in the righty/lefty and lefty/righty match ups. I think way too much is made of them. Yes, there are certain exceptions - such as when Jenkins really started to struggle against lefties. I know when I was playing baseball in college (which I know is a loooong way away from MLB) that when I was seeing the ball well it didn't matter if the pitcher was LH,RH, or underhanded, I would hit. And Kapler convinced me that he is hot and going to hit whatever is thrown at him right now when he adjusted to getting pitched outside all the time after hit 2 almost identical down and in pitches for HR's. After that the Mets tried to throw him outside and he went with it and slapped it down the first base line for a double. The guy is just seeing the ball right now and is going to hit and should start for the time being - and thats not even to mention how much better he is defensively in CF than Gross.
My vote is for Sheets in the 8th. And let me say that let this please be the Sheets we get for the majority of the year - even if it means we can't afford him
I don't know about cutting Gross, but I definitely agree that he is a liability in CF. I don't know who annointed him a CF'er in the first place. I don't mind Gross, just can't stand watching him play center
Was the fan Gabe Gross? Sorry, Gabe, I like you, but that was just too easy. Thats hilarious! At least someone will probably want Gross on their volleyball team this summer. Great bumper
He did. Last row of the bleachers. I'm pretty sure it actually got all of the way out of the park. The dude in the last row reached for it but it sailed over him
Thank God for a voice of reason. Well when Cameron makes some crazy defensive plays in CF I would like for you guys to remember those comments. I think Cameron is amazing in CF. I just don't think anyone makes that play consistenty
I'm also real curious as to how people think Gwynn or Cam catch the ball Beltran in the 1st. Are you kidding me? That ball was scorched and hit 3/4 of the way up the wall. Kapler is no slouch defensively
Well I can't get Gameday to open up, so I was curious what the radar on Gameday is showing for Sheets and Santana's fastballs. I doubt they are only 88-89 like FSN is saying
