  1. Andreoli blast paces Cubs in 4-2 win 09/01/2012 10:08 PM ET By Robbie Aaron Daytona Beach, FL The Daytona Cubs topped the Brevard County Manatees 4-2 on Saturday evening at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. After going 488 plate appearances this season without a homerun, Cubs CF John Andreoli crushed the first pitch of the ballgame from RHP Brandon Williamson over the scoreboard beyond the left field fence to give Daytona a 1-0 lead. Also in the first, 3B Christian Villanueva blooped a one-out single to left-center, stole second and came around to score on a DH Nelson Perez two-out double off the right field wall to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead. Matt Loosen (W, 11-5), who earned his team-leading 11th win of the season, worked five very strong innings, and allowed just a run on two hits with six strikeouts. Daytona scored individual runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead on the Manatees. In the seventh, Manatees RF Franklin Romero JR. laced a two-out RBI single off LHP Jeff Lorick to cut the Cubs lead to 4-2, but that was the conclusion of the scoring on the evening. RHP A.J. Morris came on in relief of Lorick to start the eighth inning, and shut the door on the 'Tees. Morris' two perfect innings of work earned him his seventh save of the season, all of which have come in his last 11 appearances. In the game, Andreoli stole two more bases to add to his leage-leading total (55), and Villanueva stole two as well. The first of Andreoli's two marked the 200th base the Daytona Cubs stole in 2012. They ended the game with 201. Perez finished with two double, a run, a walk and the RBI. With the win, the Cubs have won back-to-back scheduled games for the first time since 8/7 and 8/9 when they defeated Lakeland. The two teams will play the season-finale on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. First pitch on Fan Appreciation Night is scheduled for 5:35p.m., which fireworks to follow the final out. Game Note Saturday marked "Front Row Joe's" 1,200 consecutive Daytona Cubs game attended at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, dating back to 1995. Joe was honored when Cubs Manager Brian Harper asked him to dress in uniform for the game, and sit in the Cubs dugout at the Assistant Pitching Coach for the game.
  2. Helena 5 Great Falls (White Sox) 1 Box Score What a great pitching performance against Great Falls. The four Brewers pitchers, Damien Magnifico, Ryan Fasano, Taylor Mangum and Connor Whalen, combined to throw 9 innings giving up 4 H 1 R 1 ER and 6 BB while notching 7 K and 13:3 GO:FO. Great job fellas! At the plate, Raul Mondesi Jr. had a H and BB while Jose Pena and Paul Eshelman (HR) each smacked 2 hits. It is pretty impressive that Pena is already hitting 3rd for Helena. Must have impressed the coaches. Game Log
  3. Daytona (Cubs) 4 Brevard County 3 Box Score With the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Greg Holle allowed the winning run to cross the plate. The loss is not ideal for the playoff hopeful Manatees. Taylor Jungmann started and he was pretty darn good again. He recorded 15 outs, gave up just 5 H 1 R 0 ER 4 BB while notching 6 K and a 7:1 GO:FO. Tommy Toledo joined Holle as relievers that gave up too many runs. The hitters fell short in the end, but they stayed in the game the whole way. Nick Shaw had 3 more hits and sports a .417/.500/.556 line over his last 10. Mike Walker had a 2B and a BB. Game Log
  4. Rebel's bat yells at 'Tees in walk-off Is that a weekly headline or has Robbie been saving that all season? 08/31/2012 10:45 PM ET By Robbie Aaron Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Cubs crushed the Brevard County Manatees' playoff hopes in a 4-3 walk-off win at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Friday. In the bottom of the ninth with 3B Christian Villanueva on first and two outs, 1B Rebel Ridling drove an offering from RHP Greg Holle (L, 3-7) into the left-center field gap, which plated Villanueva and won the game for the Cubs. Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Ridling smacked a game-tying line drive homerun over the left field fence for Daytona. Ridling finished 4-5 with the homerun and game-winning double. LHP Matt Iannazzo, who was making only his third appearance for Daytona, tossed three scoreless innings of relief for Daytona, and allowed only one hit with a walk and two strikeouts to keep the Cubs in the ballgame. RHP Scott Weismann (W, 3-5) followed Iannazzo with two shutout innings of his own to finish the game and earn the win. LHP Kyler Burke started the game for Daytona and allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts over four innings of work. Cubs RF Vlad Frias finished 3-4 with an RBI, his first for Daytona. Friday was Frias' first three-hit game for the Cubs. Villanueva and DH Nelson Perez both stole bases for the Cubs, who are now three stolen bases shy of 200 on the season with two remaining games. The one-run game marked the ninth time in 18 games this season that the two teams have played contests decided by one run. Daytona and Brevard County are 9-9 against each other this season. The two teams will square off on Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RHP Matt Loosen (10-5, 4.18) is scheduled to start for the Cubs, and his mound-foe will be RHP Brandon Williamson (4-9, 5.73). First pitch on Fireworks Saturday is scheduled for 7:05p.m.
  5. Great Falls (White Sox) 5 Helena 4 Box Score Helena was in charge until GF pulled ahead for good with a 3-run 6th. That being the case, Ryan Gibbard was pretty darn good until that point. Jonathon Armold got his first taste of the Pioneer League and he did the only thing thinkable; he kept his ERA at 0.00 with a scoreless inning. Michael Francisco gave up a couple hits, but he made through his inning too. At the dish, Adam Giacalone (2-4) and Michael Turay (2-3) each had 2 H. Raul Mondesi Jr. had a H a BB and a SB. Jose Pena hit a 3B. 30 of his 68 hits have gone for extras. More typical fielding and base running probs for this club. Game Log I'm sorry I cannot be more thorough. I'm working from a carpet (no chairs or table) with a mobile device. Oh, and I moved for 15 hours today. G'Night!
  6. Brevard County 6 Daytona (Cubs) 5 Box Score Now just 1.5 back but still in 5th place. I'm pulling for a 5-way at this point. Matt Miller started and was effective despite what the run total suggests. Miller has plenty of stuff, just needs to breakout with it. The relief was solid as usual with Wild Thomas Keeling and Casey Medlen picking up a win and save respectively. The bats were making noise tonight. 4 homers, including 2 in the 9th inning alone. Mike Walker smacked 2. Joey Paciorek and Shea Vucinich had the others. Hoping for lengthy story for this seemingly wild game. Game Log
  7. AZL Brewers 8 AZL Indians 1 Box Score Hey, that is nice way to finish off a tough season. Andre Lamontagne rehabbed another 2 innings but Juan Francisco stole the show. He pitched the next 5 innings giving up just 2 H and BB while putting down 7 batters. Anthony Banda pitched 2 very nice scoreless innings to end this silver lining game. My two favorite hitting prospects on the team, Clint Coulter and Edgardo Rivera, did not play in the finale. Oooookay. Angel Ortega (2-4 CS) and Dionis Hinojosa (2-4 CS) did though. Dustin Houle and Alan Sharkey each had a 2B. Game Log Again, sorry for the quickies tonight. I'll make up for it with my season recaps.
  8. I'll be going somewhat short tonight because I am in the process of moving, but be sure to keep an eye out for my season recaps on the teams I reported on. The Maryvale should be up sometime by the end of the weekend at the very latest. Helena 6 Billings (Reds) 4 Box Score Well, Jose Pena came to the plate just needing a well struck single to tie the game. He decided to crack a 3-run bomb setting the final tally. With Tyrone Taylor's mysteriously abrupt season, Pena (2-5 2B HR) is certainly the Rookie League MVP for the Brewers. Great season with a couple to go. Ruben Ozuna (2-4 SB), Chris McFarland (3-4 2B SB), Emmanuel Quiles (3-4) and Michael Turay (3-4 2B) all were all going good tonight. Taylor Wall and Martin Viramontes covered this one for Helena. Wall got 19 outs with reasonable damage, but the periphs, besides the GB's, are not that great. Viramontes continues to K well over a guy per inning. Game Log No game stories yet, so dive in and tell me what happened.
  9. AZL Brewers 8 AZL Reds 2 Box Score More solid pitching in this one. David Otterman continues his 'rehab' assignment to Arizona with a pretty mice showing. He went 2 perfect innings with 2 K. Joel Dicent was next in line and he was superb besides one solo home run he allowed. He went 6 innings allowing just 4 H 1 R and 0 BB while notching 2 K and 6 GO. Alejandro Lavandero came in for the 9th to get the final 3 outs. He allowed a meaningless run before finishing off the Reds. The bats were equally impressive lead by Clint Coulter (3-5 3B) and company. Deivi Mejia (2-4 HBP) and Jose Sermo (1-4 BB) produced in the middle while Angel Ortega (2-5 2B SB) and Taylor Smith-Brennan (1-3 2B 2 BB) produced near the bottom. Game Log 3 run version 1. AZL Brewers Top of the 6th Edgardo Rivera singles on a ground ball to second baseman Avain Rachal. With Jalen Harris batting, Edgardo Rivera steals (9) 2nd base. Jalen Harris strikes out on a foul bunt. With Clint Coulter batting, wild pitch by Jose Guzman, Edgardo Rivera to 3rd. Clint Coulter triples (3) on a line drive to right fielder Jonathan Reynoso. Edgardo Rivera scores. Jose Sermo walks. Pitching Change: Austin Muehring replaces Jose Guzman. Deivi Mejia singles on a line drive to left fielder Argenis Aldazoro. Clint Coulter scores. Deivi Mejia to 2nd. Jose Sermo advances to 3rd, on a fielding error by left fielder Argenis Aldazoro. Taylor Smith-Brennan walks. Angel Ortega flies out to right fielder Jonathan Reynoso. With Jose Garcia batting, wild pitch by Austin Muehring, Jose Sermo scores. Deivi Mejia to 3rd. Taylor Smith-Brennan to 2nd. Jose Garcia hit by pitch. Pitching Change: Werleen Taveras replaces Austin Muehring. Dionis Hinojosa grounds out, pitcher Werleen Taveras to first baseman Wilfrel Estevez. 3 run version 2 AZL Brewers Top of the 7th Edgardo Rivera flies out to center fielder Adam Matthews. Jalen Harris walks. Clint Coulter singles on a ground ball to left fielder Argenis Aldazoro. Jalen Harris to 2nd. Jose Sermo singles on a line drive to left fielder Argenis Aldazoro. Jalen Harris scores. Clint Coulter to 2nd. Deivi Mejia strikes out swinging. Taylor Smith-Brennan doubles (3) on a line drive to center fielder Adam Matthews. Clint Coulter scores. Jose Sermo scores. Angel Ortega flies out to center fielder Adam Matthews.
  10. Brevard blanks Lakeland to open twin bill 08/28/2012 9:20 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees LAKELAND, Fla. -In their first game in three days, the Brevard County Manatees blanked the Lakeland Flying Tigers 6-0 in the first game of a twin bill on Tuesday night at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. Brevard starting pitcher Drew Gagnon (1-2, 2.82) finally earned his first win with the 'Tees (32-30 second half, 61-60 overall) in his 11th start with the Sea Cows. Gagnon threw a seven-inning, complete game shutout as scattered three hits, walked just one and struck out seven. The Flying Tigers (34-27, 70-56) could only muster five base runners off of Gagnon on the night. The Manatees spotted Gagnon a 3-0 lead before he even took the mound. Nick Shaw led off the game by drawing a walk and then moved to third on a single from Shea Vucinich. Jason Rogers then singled to right to plate Shaw and make it a 1-0 game. A ground out from Mike Walker moved Rogers to second and Vucinich to third and Vucinich would then score on a RBI ground out off the bat of Cody Hawn. Then a two-out single by Parker Berberet would plate Rogers and cap off the scoring for the 'Tees in the first inning. The 'Tees extended their lead to 4-0 in the second on a RBI single from Shaw that scored Franklin Romero Jr. Shaw drove in two more runs in the fourth as he drove in Juan Sanchez and Romero Jr. with a double. The top of the order got the job done for the Manatees as Shaw, Vucinich and Rogers combined to go 5-for-11 with four RBI and three runs scored. Shaw and Vucinich had two hits each with Shaw driving in three runs. ********* 'Tees take game two to complete sweep of Lakeland 08/28/2012 10:16 PM ET By Frank Longobardo LAKELAND, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees won their fourth straight game as they completed a doubleheader sweep of the Lakeland Flying Tigers by winning the second game of Tuesday's twin bill in Lakeland by the score of 4-1. Just like the first game of the double dip, the 'Tees (33-30 second half, 62-69 overall) scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The three runs came courtesy of recently named Florida State League Post-Season All-Star Mike Walker as he hit a three-run shot for his tenth homer of the season. Three runs were all that Brevard starting pitcher Nick Bucci (2-2, 1.90) would need as he went five-plus innings and allowed just one run. He yielded five hits and walked one, while striking out a season-high eight. In five starts with the Manatees, Bucci has a ratio of 11.78 strikeouts per nine innings. Brevard County's other run came in the third inning as Shea Vucinich plated Jason Rogers on a sacrifice fly to left field. Nick Shaw went 3-for-3 in game two and was 5-for-6 overall in the doubleheader. Walker also had a double to go along with his three-run homer. Alan Williams threw the final two innings in relief of Bucci and earned his third save of the season as he did not allow a run and struck out two Lakeland (34-28, 70-57) hitters. The Manatees are now 15-5 in doubleheader games and are now 2.5 games behind first place Dunedin with five games to play, but still sit in fifth place. Brevard County will go for the sweep of Lakeland on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as Matt Miller (1-2, 9.00) will toe the rubber for the 'Tees. The Flying Tigers will counter with Luis Angel Sanz (11-3, 3.62).
  11. Billings (Reds) 7 Helena 6 Box Score Preston Gainey is the only starter in the system that had problems today but his teammates bailed him out with a late rally to tie it in the top of the 8th. The Reds promptly put one across in the bottom half before holding the Brewers in the 9th. Errors are a killer in final at-bat situations. Gainey gave up 4 R in 4 IP mainly due to 2 HR's including one from a Reds top prospect (see below). Michael Schaub replaced Gainey and was slightly more effective. He gave up the 2nd homer to Winker. Michael Francisco gave up the GW inherited run (wild pitch) for Billings. I'd be fine if I never had to cover a game that the Billings Reds or the Dunedin Blue Jays (A+) play in ever again. With the tree gold, Alfredo Rodriguez smacked a granny in the eighth to tie it up. Paul Eshleman had 3 H and Jose Pena added another 2, all singles. Pena is up to .300 in the Pioneer League now. Jose is my 18th ranked Brewers prospect and he is gaining steam. Needs to talk a walk though. Adam Giacalone had a tough game in the field with 2 errors including a costly one in the bottom of the 8th. Jesse Winker went yard twice for the Reds. His season line is very similar to Clint Coulter's only better in every facet. He is also 18 days younger and playing in the league directly above Clint. Jesse Winker was the 49th pick in the 2012 draft (we passed on him 3 times). Btw, I am not trying to say that we made the wrong picks. Way to early for crazy talk. Game Log Giacalone! No! Billings Bottom of the 8th Robert Maddox grounds out, shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez to first baseman Adam Giacalone. Jeff Gelalich reaches on a fielding error by first baseman Adam Giacalone. Robert Ramirez singles on a ground ball to center fielder Raul Mondesi. Jeff Gelalich to 3rd. Pitching Change: Michael Francisco replaces Michael Schaub. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Brandon Dailey replaces Taylor Wrenn. With Brandon Dailey batting, wild pitch by Michael Francisco, Jeff Gelalich scores. Robert Ramirez to 2nd. With Brandon Dailey batting, wild pitch by Michael Francisco, Robert Ramirez to 3rd. Brandon Dailey called out on strikes. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Daniel Pigott replaces Julio Morillo. Daniel Pigott flies out to right fielder Jose Pena.
  12. So BC is still 2.5 back of Dunedin and there are 4 teams above us. Unreal.
  13. Dude, if Preston Gainey can hold on tight and David Otterman can have a night, I might just die a happy man.
  14. G2: Brevard County 4 Lakeland (1st Place Tigers) 1 Box Score What a great night to be a player/fan/follower of the Mer-cows. Just fantastic 2 game set here. Nick Bucci was the man in G2. He recorded 15 outs, 8 via K and 2 GO, while allowing just 5 H 1 R and 1 BB. Then Big Haus Alan Williams nailed a nice 2 innings save with 2 K. It has been a tremendously successful comeback for Bucci and he looks every bit the top-20 Brewers prospect that I expect the User P50 will have him ranked as. I have to imagine Nick will follow Khris Davis to the AFL to log more innings against upper echelon competition. At the plate, Nick Shaw keeps raking (3-3 BB). Where would this offense be without him over this past week or so? Mike Walker awoke and went 2-4 with a 2B and a huge 3-run bomb in the 1st inning. That gives Walker 10. I had mentioned about a month ago that Walker really had a chance to open some eyes if he could finish strong. It just has not happened to date despite what his All-Star selection might suggest. 2 huge DP's helped keep this game in the flippers of the Manatees. See you tomorrow folks! Game Log Hey, why not? Lakeland Bottom of the 1st Marcus Lemon strikes out swinging. Dixon Machado called out on strikes. Tyler Collins singles on a line drive to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Wade Gaynor flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Lakeland Bottom of the 2nd Dean Green doubles (8) on a fly ball to center fielder Reggie Keen. Adolfo Reina singles on a fly ball to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Dean Green to 3rd. James Robbins strikes out swinging. Hernan Perez called out on strikes. Michael Rockett called out on strikes. Lakeland Bottom of the 3rd Marcus Lemon flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Dixon Machado flies out to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Tyler Collins grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Cody Hawn. Lakeland Bottom of the 4th Wade Gaynor walks. Dean Green grounds into a double play, third baseman Mike Walker to second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Cody Hawn. Wade Gaynor out at 2nd. Adolfo Reina strikes out swinging. Lakeland Bottom of the 5th James Robbins strikes out swinging. Hernan Perez strikes out swinging. Michael Rockett flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Lakeland Bottom of the 6th Marcus Lemon singles on a line drive to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Dixon Machado singles on a fly ball to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Marcus Lemon to 2nd. Pitching Change: Alan Williams replaces Nick Bucci. Tyler Collins flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Wade Gaynor singles on a fly ball to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Marcus Lemon scores. Dixon Machado to 3rd. Dean Green grounds into a double play, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Cody Hawn. Wade Gaynor out at 2nd. Lakeland Bottom of the 7th Adolfo Reina strikes out swinging. James Robbins strikes out swinging. Hernan Perez triples (4) on a line drive to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Michael Rockett flies out to right fielder Franklin Romero Jr.
  15. G1: Brevard County 6 Lakeland (1st Place Tigers) 0 Box Score Drew Gagnon may have made this little Manatee 2nd half comeback ripple into a full fledged tidal wave with his absolute Greinke-ian pitching performance today. Gagnon faced 26 hitters and recorded 21 outs. He allowed just 3 H, 1 BB and 1 HBP while setting down 7. The wind was blowing out to LF at about 10 MPH, so Gagnon is somewhat lucky his 4:9 GO:FO ratio did not hurt him. Drew's strengths are that he does not walk many or allow an absurd amount of hits but don't let that fool you. He can get on a roll with the K's and be dominant. At the dish, Nick Shaw (2-3 2B BB) had a big game. He is sporting a nice .970 OPS over his last 10 games. Shea Vucinich went 2-4 with a SB and Franklin Romero Jr. went 1-3 with 2 SB. Game Log Haven't gotten to do this in awhile. Lakeland Bottom of the 1st Luis Castillo flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Dixon Machado grounds out, shortstop Nick Shaw to first baseman Jason Rogers. Tyler Collins flies out to center fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Lakeland Bottom of the 2nd Wade Gaynor called out on strikes. Dean Green grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Jason Rogers. Adolfo Reina doubles (4) on a fly ball to center fielder Franklin Romero Jr. James Robbins walks. Hernan Perez flies out to right fielder John Dishon. Lakeland Bottom of the 3rd Michael Rockett called out on strikes. Luis Castillo strikes out swinging. Dixon Machado pops out to second baseman Shea Vucinich. Lakeland Bottom of the 4th Tyler Collins called out on strikes. Wade Gaynor flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Dean Green strikes out swinging. Brevard County Top of the 5th Mike Walker grounds out, second baseman Hernan Perez to first baseman James Robbins. Cody Hawn grounds out, second baseman Hernan Perez to first baseman James Robbins. Parker Berberet grounds out, second baseman Hernan Perez to first baseman James Robbins. Lakeland Bottom of the 6th Luis Castillo flies out to center fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Dixon Machado grounds out, pitcher Drew Gagnon to first baseman Jason Rogers. Tyler Collins flies out to left fielder Juan Sanchez. Lakeland Bottom of the 7th Wade Gaynor singles on a ground ball to third baseman Mike Walker. Dean Green hit by pitch. Wade Gaynor to 2nd. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Austin Schotts replaces Dean Green. Adolfo Reina flies out to center fielder Franklin Romero Jr. Wade Gaynor to 3rd. James Robbins strikes out swinging. Austin Schotts steals (1) 2nd base. Hernan Perez flies out to right fielder John Dishon.
  16. AZL Brewers 7 AZL Dodgers 5 Box Score The AZL Dodgers are just about as bad as the Brewers with the bat. At least with the lineup they threw out there last night. Certainly credit 2012 3rd rounder Zachary Quintana with making sure they didn't heat up too much. He got 15 outs, gave up 4 H 1 R 0 ER 1 BB and notched 7 K and 2:2 GO:FO. That might be his best to date and points to his true talent level. Danny Keller threw 2 scoreless innings. This is not a misprint. I really hope Danny can find his footing. Austin Blaski managed just 1 out while allowing 4 R and it could have been worse. Carlos Sosa stranded 2 of Blaski's 3 runners. I am mildly surprised that Sosa has not advanced further through the system. With the lumber, Jalen Harris (2-5 3B) and Clint Coulter (2-3 HR BB) made a lot happen out of the 2-3 holes. Coulter is going to need more games like this before he gets the recognition he possibly deserves. Alan Sharkey went 1-2 with 2 BB while Angel Ortega and Malcolm Dowell each had a H and BB. (And I have just realized I have been ruining the spelling of Malcolm's 1st name. That is embarrassing ad I am very sorry MD.) Game Log Gotta go! Ahhhhhh!
  17. Helena 9 Orem (Angels) 8 F/10 Box Score Wow, what a game for the young H-Crew. This one had everything. Helena C Joe Andrade stole home plate. Helena walked nearly as much as they struck out. [sarcasm]5 XBH's in one game![/sarcasm] Tyler Wagner started and was not his best. The K's keep pouring in and the BB's are manageable as long as they are not accompanied by wild pitches and HBP's. Tyler managed to avoid those dreaded extras yesterday. Joel Pierce continues to string together good outings, now 5 in a row. That is tremendous progress for the 19-year-old from the great North. Connor Whalen continues to be the most effective pitcher on the staff with a 8 out W to end the game. There is a lot to talk about with the bats. Ruben Ozuna (3-6 2 SB) and Raul Mondesi Jr. (2-5 2B BB GW Hit) powered the top of the lineup. Jose Pena (2-5 2 2B) is transferring his considerable bat speed and power to Helena (0 BB and 8 K in 11 games). Paul Eshleman smacked a 9th inning 2B and was pinch-run for by Andres Martinez who promptly scored the tying run. Adam Giacalone (1-2 3 BB) probably hasn't seen a centered FB in 3 weeks. Alfredo Rodriguez (2-3 2 BB) got back on track. Renaldo "Ra Ra" Jenkins, who started at 2B, took a walk in the 10th and came around to score on Raul Mondesi Jr.'s 2B. Raul Mondesi Jr. also gunned down another runner, this time at 1B. That's 10. Game Log Cannon context. Orem Top of the 8th Chevy Clarke singles on a fly ball to left fielder Ruben Ozuna. Michael Bolaski strikes out swinging. Chevy Clarke steals (9) 2nd base. Chevy Clarke advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by catcher Paul Eshleman. Pitching Change: Connor Whalen replaces Joel Pierce. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-hitter Anthony Bemboom replaces Zac Livingston. Anthony Bemboom reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by pitcher Connor Whalen. Chevy Clarke scores. Joel Capote flies into a double play, center fielder Raul Mondesi to first baseman Adam Giacalone. Anthony Bemboom doubled off 1st. Cannon GW Helena Bottom of the 10th Pitching Change: Joseph Krehbiel replaces Mike Morin. Renaldo Jenkins walks. With Ruben Ozuna batting, Renaldo Jenkins advances to 2nd on a balk. Ruben Ozuna strikes out swinging. Raul Mondesi doubles (9) on a fly ball to left fielder Jonathan Walsh. Renaldo Jenkins scores.
  18. I am going to write up both rookie leagues in the morning. A slight schedule change in my daily routine may make this a regular thing for the remainder of the season. Clint Coulter can really hit.
  19. Big-time shakeup in the Helena lineup with Chris McFarland getting a blow. Tyler Wagner not looking to great against one of the leagues top offenses.
  20. Brewers drop fourth in a row 5 hours ago • Independent Record Orem jumped ahead in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 10-5 victory over the Helena Brewers on Sunday afternoon at Kindrick Legion Field. The Owlz scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed the rest of the way, despite allowing the Brewers to pull within one run in the bottom of the second and fourth innings. Designated hitter Paul Eshelman led Helena with a two-run home run, while right fielder Jose Pena finished 3 for 4 with a triple, and first baseman Adam Giacalone was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Orem shortstop Wendell Soto was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Helena’s Leonard Lorenzo allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings on the mound and was tagged with the loss, while Orem’s Aaron Newcomb got the win.
  21. AZL Mariners 7 AZL Brewers 4 Box Score A quick 4-run 1st inning off of Andre Lamontagne really put the Maryvale squad behind the 8-ball. Austin Hall, Eduard Reyes and Jeffry Saba combined to work the final 8 IP allowing 7 H 3 R 3 ER 1 BB 1 WP 2 HBP and notching 6 K. Hall in particular was effective going 3 shutout innings. At the plate, a number of Brewers hitters had big games. Lead-off Edgardo Rivera went 2-4 with a 2B and BB as he pestered the Mariners pitchers all night. They got some revenge by picking him off of 1B. Lanky SS Angel Ortega wen 3-4 and has his average hovering in the 2.20-.230 range. Malcom Dowell went 2-4 with a 3B, his 3rd XBH in 42 games. Clint Coulter was 0-4 with 3 K. Every hitter struck out at least once for Maryvale (14 K total). Game Log
  22. Owlz cruise to 10-4 victory 08/26/2012 6:23 PM ET http://www.milb.com/images/2012/08/26/YmKbaLHn.jpg Leonard Lorenzo pitched 4.1 innings on Sunday. (Sleeping Giant Photography) The Pioneer League's most prolific offense wasted no time on Sunday afternoon at Kindrick Legion Field. The Owlz would eventually cruise to a 10-4 victory in game two of three over the Helena Brewers. Brewers starter Leonard Lorenzo, who has struggled since posting a career high 12 strikeouts against Missoula on August 9, failed to find his command in the first inning of action allowing the Owlz to grab a 3-0 lead before an out was recorded. The Brewers offense finished the game with nine hits and five runs on the afternoon, but thanks to four straight scoring frames by Orem starting in the fourth, the home team never had a real shot to grab the win. Right fielder Jose Pena led the charge for the Brewers going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored. First baseman Adam Giacalone pitched in two more hits over four at bats and raised his batting average to a team leading .324. Brewers starter Leonard Lorenzo was tabbed with his seventh loss of the season raising his ERA to 5.70. Owlz reliever Aaron Newcomb earned the victory on the strength of 3.1 innings, three strikeouts and two earned runs. The victory coupled with Grand Junction's loss at Great Falls gives the Owlz sole possession of first place in the Southern Division of the Pioneer League.
  23. Maryvale is trailing 4-0 in the 2nd inning as Andre Lamontagne got destroyed in his 2nd rehab start. This will have to be a morning recap.
  24. Orem (Angels) 10 Helena 5 Box Score Bad pitching and plate discipline is one way to put it. I'll leave it at that. The only pitcher not roughed up was Connor Whalen who threw a scoreless 9th inning with 2 K. Before him, Elliot Glynn managed to give up a run despite allowing no hits in 2.1 IP. For the hitters, Paul Eshleman (1-3 HR) smacked his 2nd homer in two nights. Adam Giacalone (2-4) had his first two hit game in forever. Jose Pena smacked the ball around the park with a 3-4 night including a 3B. Zero walks for the Brewers who all seem to be itching to head home at this point. Game Log Orem scored in 5 of their 9 innings. So did Helena. #YCPB
