Helena 9 Missoula (D'Backs) 1 Box Score Nice blowout win! Fantastic start for soon to be 21 year old RHP Leonard Lorenzo. Lorenzo made steady progress through the DSL starting in 2009 despite serving a 50-game drug suspension last season. He finished tonight with 5 IP 5 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 5 K 4:5 GO:FO. The young Dominican was followed by two young Canadians. First, Joel Pierce came on for an inning. He got destroyed his first time out, so a scoreless inning with 2 K's is a step in the right direction. The next northerner was 2012 7th rounder David Otterman. It was David's pro debut and he was impressive. 2 IP 1 H 0 R 2 K 1 WP 2:2 GO:FO. Michael Francisco finished the blow out with a scoreless 9th inning. It was a total team effort with the bats tonight. Leading the way were Alfredo Rodriguez (3-3 BB SB (2)), Raul Mondesi Jr. (2-5 3B), Michael Reed (2-4 BB), Emmanuel Quiles (1-3 2B SAC) and Mike Nemeth (2-3 BB). 8 Brewers had a hit, 8 scored a run, 7 had a RBI, 4 took a walk, and 3 stole a base. None committed an error. The roughed up D'Back pitcher, Karl Triana, was decent in his one year stay in the DSL in 2011. Certainly not Dicentian by any means and certainly was not his best tonight. Game Log Pickled Ozuna. Helena Bottom of the 3rd Alfredo Rodriguez singles on a ground ball to center fielder Breland Almadova. Ruben Ozuna singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Jake Lamb. On my Twitter (@AlfredAugust) timeline from this morning, you can see some of the comments Jim Breen (@JP_Breen) made/relayed to me this morning regarding last nights Helena starter Eric Semmelhack. Semmelhack had the top minor league pitching game score last night. This is certainly one to watch. Needs a change up. -

You weren't kidding. The PbP doesn't even do it justice. An appeal by Missoula claiming Mondesi Jr. missed home plate at the end of his HR trot "earns" the little tattle-tale D'Backs a win. But for real Raul, make sure you touch home plate! -

Missoula (Diamondbacks) 2 Helena 1 Box Score I'm sure this was a pleasurable game to listen to. I tuned in with Chris McFarland on 2nd and Adam Giacalone batting in the bottom of the 9th. Everything went downhill from there unfortunately. Giacalone struck out sending the game into extras where a baby D'Back hit a two-run bomb off of Manny Ruiz, who had been overpoweringly wild until then. After Michael White got them out of the 10th, Yonki Hernandez hit a single and took second on defensive indifference. After a couple of line outs to CF, Raul Mondesi Jr. came to the plate and absolutely crushed a game tying 2-run 2-out homerun. Incredibly though, Mondesi Jr. was ruled out for missing home plate after coming around the bases. This game seemed to have been rather testy already, so to lose on a ticky-tacky call like that is pretty lame, and must have really irritated some people. Enjoy your technical victory, Missoula. May you see a barrage of borderline strike calls go against your batters tomorrow. Eric Semmelhack got the start and was brilliant. 7 IP 2 H 0 R 0 BB 5 K 1 WP 7:6 GO:FO. Semmelhack is easily the hottest SP in stateside rookie ball for the Brewers. He had 5 perfect IP tonight, including the first 3, out of 7 total IP. Manny Ruiz was next, and as mentioned, he was overpowering at first. 2.1 IP 1 H 2 R 2 ER 0 BB 5 K 1 HR 1 WP 3 HBP 3:0 GO:FO At the plate, it was Yonki Hernandez (2-4 2 SB (6)) again leading the charge. McFarland and Emmanuel Quiles had the only other hits for the H-Crew besides Mondesi Jr.'s homer-triple-thingy. Adrian Williams walked twice and stole 2 bases. Game Log The strangest end. Helena Bottom of the 10th Yonki Hernandez singles on a ground ball to second baseman Daniel Pulfer. Kevin Berard flies out to right fielder Breland Almadova. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Michael Nemeth replaces Adrian Williams. Michael Nemeth flies out to center fielder Socrates Brito. With Raul Mondesi batting, Yonki Hernandez advances to 2nd on defensive indifference. Raul Mondesi triples (2) on a fly ball to center fielder Socrates Brito. Yonki Hernandez scores. Raul Mondesi out at home, pitcher Dexter Price to catcher Michael Perez. -

BREWIN' WITH KUEHN: Father shares in Wagner’s pro debut By AMBER KUEHN Independent Record | Posted: Monday, June 25, 2012 12:05 am An unfamiliar ballpark, a new uniform, butterflies in the stomach — there can be plenty of nerve-wracking things that factor into a professional debut. Thankfully for Tyler Wagner, he had a familiar face in the stands at Kindrick Legion Field on Friday to make him just a tad more comfortable on the mound. His father, Tom, came in from Las Vegas and surprised him just before the game. Wagner said he started the 14-hour trek at 3 in the morning and arrived an hour-and-a-half before first pitch. “He’s always been supportive my whole baseball career, so it was nice to have him here,” said the 21-year-old Helena reliever, who gave up three hits and two earned runs through 2 2/3 innings Friday. It was his first appearance out of the Brewers’ bullpen. “I obviously wanted to impress my dad but I just did what I could,” said Wagner, who holds the career record for saves at the University of Utah. Tom Wagner has been with his son every step of the way, coaching Tyler from T-ball at age 5 until he was 16. One of the highlights was when Tyler was 11, and the father-son duo were part of a team that won a Cooperstown tournament. Tyler’s American Legion team also won a national championship in 2008. Wagner was drafted in the fourth round of this month’s draft after a sterling college career. He was named first team All-Mountain West relief pitcher his sophomore season in 2011 after recording a conference-best dozen saves that year. He was just 2-6 in 2012, partly due to a Utes team that struggled this past season. Tom was in the stands for every one of Tyler’s games this year, made possible since he retired from a 25-year career as detective sergeant on Jan. 1. Tom said Tyler being drafted is a dream come true for both father and son. “As a dad, when you’ve walked with him every step and seen him work so hard, it’s a dream come true (to see him drafted),” said Tom, who also coached both of his boys’ football teams briefly. Wagner has a mid-90s fastball and an above-average slider, and Utah coach Bill Kinneberg told the Daily Utah Chronicle he has the stuff to be in the big leagues one day. Helena pitching coach Elvin Nina likes what he’s seen from Wagner so far. Wagner knows he made a couple of mistakes Friday that need to be cleaned up: he issued a lead-off walk, which eventually came in for a run, and gave up a two-run homer — after allowing just three long balls in his entire three-year career at Utah. “It’s definitely a humbling thing to know I’m not the big man on campus anymore,” Tyler said. “I’m just another guy whose gonna go out there and throw his innings. I know I’ve gotta keep working hard. “I need to work on my fastball command, that’s my biggest thing right now.” Tom Wagner, who was in Helena for the entire Billings series and enjoying his first-ever trip to Montana, thought Tyler pitched well through the first couple of innings in his debut. “Traditionally as a closer he’s only been called on to pitch two innings at a time, so it concerned me when he went out for a third,” said Tom, 47. “He left the ball up and got dinged up a little bit, but he’s gonna get better.” Tom plans to get back to as many games in Helena as possible, and also plans to attend games in Ogden and Orem, Utah. NINA KNOWS It’s difficult for most of us to put ourselves in these players’ shoes, hard to imagine the pressure a pitcher faces when he takes the mound at this level. While we see the struggles — the Brewers pitching staff had a 6.06 ERA and just one win entering Sunday’s contest — we fail to see what’s going on in their mind. But Nina knows from personal experience what it’s like. “Sometimes we tend to forget they’re still kids,” he said. “I have to remember when I was 20, 21 — a long time ago — when I was in this situation I was pretty nervous. I questioned myself. I didn’t know anything about the hitters I was facing ... I’m a good example of it. My first year was horrendous. I wasn’t quite prepared to be a professional slugger, and it didn’t sink in until halfway through my second year that this was a job for me, it wasn’t a hobby anymore. Some of them are still in that mode.” Helena pitchers have given up 83 hits this season, more than any other staff in the Pioneer League. While they are struggling with their command at the moment, Nina said it’s just a matter of time before they get hot. “You go from rookie ball in Arizona or the Dominican Republic to the big leagues, command is everything,” he said. “The guys in their first year, it just still hasn’t sunk in that they’re professional ball players.” Nina said the young pitchers have become accustomed to pitching for scouts and now must transition to pitching for outs. “They’re still trying to get velocity and they forget about getting people out and throwing the ball in the zone,” he said. “They’ve just got a little excitement at the moment.” Nina said the best way to help these young men get better is establishing a relationship with them. “Trust is everything,” he said. “As long as he can trust you, he’s more willing to believe the things you say to him and he’ll carry those things onto the field.” DOMINANT DEFENSE Helena led the Pioneer League in assists (86) and double plays (11) heading into Sunday’s matinee affair with Billings. Brewers manager Jeff Isom noted defense as a bright spot thus far. “Double plays are a pitcher’s best friend, and that’s one thing we have done a good job of,” Isom said. “We’re deep in the infield.” Shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez has been solid, taking part in seven of the Brewers’ 11 double-play efforts. Both catchers — Emmanuel Quiles and Michael Turay — have been exceptional at throwing out base runners. But the solid defense doesn’t stop at the infield, as outfielder Raul Mondesi Jr. has made several highlight-reel plays in right field — drawing comparisons to his father. NEWER BREWER Michael Reed arrived Thursday from High-A Brevard County in the Florida State League following Lance Roenicke’s promotion. The 5-foot-10, 192-pound center fielder graduated from Leander High in Texas in 2011, after hitting .386 with five homers and 39 RBIs his senior season. Last year he hit .232 with the AZL Brewers, and was hitting .225 through 40 at-bats earlier this year with Brevard County and AA Huntsville. The 19-year-old was ranked as Milwaukee’s 24th-best prospect after last season by Baseball America. Athleticism runs in Reed’s genes, as his father, Benton, was a defensive end in the NFL for the New England Patriots. Amber has Michael Reed listed at 5'10". MiLB.com as him at 6'0". These are things prospectors care about

Brewers end four-game skid with win over Billings By AMBER KUEHN Independent Record | Posted: Monday, June 25, 2012 12:05 am Michael Garza wasn’t about to let another win slip away. The Helena Brewers third baseman took the first pitch he saw in the seventh inning, a fastball delivered by Billings reliever Sean Lucas, and drilled it to the right-field wall for a two-run double. And just like that, the hosts were back in front after blowing a two-run lead, and back on the winning track after a four-game skid. The Brewers (2-5) came away with a 6-4 victory Sunday in front of a sparse crowd at Kindrick Legion Field, narrowly avoiding a three-game sweep by the Mustangs. “It feels good,” Helena manager Jeff Isom said following his team’s first win since June 19. “I had my doubts after we gave up the three-run homer, but we fought back. It’s a pretty good feeling right now.” Helena led 3-1 heading into the seventh, with a solo shot by Spencer Dickinson the only damage done so far by Billings (5-2). But an ominous start to the inning — Elliot Glynn hit a batter and then walked Robert Ramirez — gave way to a go-ahead, three-run bomb by the Mustangs’ No. 9 hitter, Brandon Dailey. The Brewers answered quickly in the home half of the seventh. Yonki Hernandez struck his second single of the game, then stole second — Helena’s fourth stolen base Sunday — and went to third on a wild pitch. Chris McFarland’s infield hit brought Hernandez home to knot the score at 5-all. Mustangs reliever Jim Moran was pulled after hitting Michael Reed, and Lucas just couldn’t get around Garza’s big bat. “He did a great job of looking for something he could handle, and that happened to be the first pitch he saw,” Isom said of Garza, who is batting .367. Aggressive base running paid off for the Brewers, and their win was again highlighted by defense. Mike Nemeth threw out Jesse Winker at home plate in the third, Brewers catcher Mike Turay threw out two Mustangs trying to steal second and Raul Mondesi Jr. backhanded a ball in right field to end the seventh. “Defense did a nice job even though we did commit two errors,” Isom said. “I’m extremely happy with our catchers — they’ve been doing an outstanding job shutting down the running game.” Helena right-hander Mike Schaub had a quality start on the bump, giving up just four hits and the home run through six innings of work. It wasn’t enough to get the decision, with Glynn getting his first win as a Brewer following the blown save. Connor Whalen was perfect in the final two innings for his second save this season. Schaub, who entered with a 9.00 ERA, said he felt a bit more comfortable in his second start. The 6-foot-2, 217-pounder from Anaheim, Calif., said he had difficult adjusting to the altitude in his last outing. “It felt good,” he said. “Pretty much my fastball was working all over the plate, my changeup was good, and I mixed in a curveball towards the end.” Schaub’s counterpart, Billings starter Robert Stephenson, fanned four through four innings but gave up three runs — including his first earned run of the season. Still, the 2011 first-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds looked solid, keeping Brewers batters off balance by mixing his pitches well. Moran was hung with the loss. Isom hopes his squad has turned the corner after the win, which snapped Billings’ five-game win streak. As is customary after a victory, tunes were playing in the Brewers clubhouse after the game and spirits were high, music to the manager’s ears. Schaub believes it’s a sign of good things to come. “Our team’s just been working hard; even though we lost a couple we keep grinding,” he said. “Hopefully we can get on a roll now. You get one, then you get two … every winning streak has to start with the first one.” Helena will open a two-game set against Missoula today. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Kindrick, with Brewers right-hander Eric Semmelhack (0-1, 3.00) getting the nod. NOTES: Mustangs infielder Robert Maddox entered the game batting .500, with six hits alone in the series with Helena. But Brewers’ pitchers shut him down Sunday, as Billings’ designated hitter went 0 for 4. … McFarland and Hernandez were the offensive leaders for Helena on Sunday. Both had singles and both scored two runs, while McFarland added a pair of RBIs and Hernandez had two stolen bases.

Helena 6 Billings (Reds) 4 Box Score The Helena Brewers will be competitive at least, and they were very good tonight getting a big win against the undefeated Reds team and 2011 1st rounder Robert Stephenson. Stephenson matched Helena starter Michael Schaub for a couple innings but Shaub and the H-Crew were too much. Shaub threw 6 innings giving up 4 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 2 K 1 HR 1 WP with a 9:3 GO:FO. Elliot Glynn came on and promptly blew the save. Naturally, Glynn ended up with the win despite his poor inning. Connor Whalen came on after another 3-run Helena inning and recorded a 6-out save. 2B Chris McFarland (2-3 BB SB) is flashing his above average hit tool early this season. Michael Reed (0-2 BB HBP) was on twice. Mike Garza (2-4 2B CS E (4)) had another big game and recorded the only XBH for the good guys. 9-hitter part-time player Yonki Hernandez (2-3 2 SB) is off to fast start. A measly 315 people came out for the game in Helena despite the perfect day for baseball. Game Log Point-counterpoint. Yeah, I am cliche. Billings Top of the 7th Pitcher Change: Elliott Glynn replaces Michael Schaub. Taylor Wrenn hit by pitch. Robert Ramirez walks. Taylor Wrenn to 2nd. Brennan May strikes out swinging. Wagner Gomez called out on strikes. Brandon Dailey homers (1) on a fly ball to left field. Taylor Wrenn scores. Robert Ramirez scores. Spencer Dickinson flies out to right fielder Raul Mondesi. Helena Bottom of the 7th Michael Turay grounds out, third baseman Robert Ramirez to first baseman Carlos Sanchez. Yonki Hernandez singles on a line drive to center fielder Brennan May. With Raul Mondesi batting, Yonki Hernandez steals (4) 2nd base. Raul Mondesi strikes out swinging. With Christopher McFarland batting, wild pitch by Jimmy Moran, Yonki Hernandez to 3rd. Pitcher Change: Sean Lucas replaces Jimmy Moran. Mike Garza doubles (3) on a line drive to right fielder Jesse Winker. Christopher McFarland scores. Michael Reed scores. Michael Nemeth flies out to right fielder Jesse Winker.

NOTES: Billings catcher Fray Sosa stayed in the game Saturday night after being shaken up on a collision at home plate. Sosa was hit hard while blocking McFarland and making the out in the eighth ... I am almost always more worried about the runner in these collisions. The lone exception is when Prince Fielder is doing the plowing. It appears McFarland is all right.

Billings (Reds) 7 Helena 3 Box Score Well, tonight was another struggle. Will West got the start and recorded a terrible 1st and 6th inning. The innings in between were peachy keen. 6 IP 11 H 7 R 7 ER 1 BB 6 K 1 HBP 5:1 GO:FO for West. Manny Ruiz was next and got a quick out before a come-backer knocked him out of the game. Hopefully Manny is okay, I had to switch my attention to other things, so I missed any possible updates from Steve or Amber. Joel Pierce finished the horrible 6th recording the final out after giving up a hit. Pierce was lifted after one out, presumably because he is needed for his pitching tandem. Taylor Wall and Martin Viramontes finished the final two frames with 5 K and 0 runs. 2-hitter DH Chris McFarland (2-5 SB) keeps producing. Michael Reed (1-3 2B BB) finally poked an XBH. 4-hitter 3B Michael Garza (3-4 SB) is adjusting to pro ball pitching just fine. Adam Giacalone (1-4 2B) rapped out his 1st hit of the season even though he has started every game. C Emmanuel Quiles snap-threw two runners and Raul Mondesi Jr. threw out a guy at third. That's 4. Game Log Nice. Billings Top of the 5th Spencer Dickinson strikes out swinging. Jesse Winker strikes out swinging. Carlos Sanchez strikes out swinging, catcher Emmanuel Quiles to first baseman Adam Giacalone.

Brevard completes sweep of Blue Jays 06/23/2012 10:11 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees took an early 4-0 lead and held on to defeat the Dunedin Blue Jays, 4-3 on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. The victory gave the 'Tees a three-game sweep of the first half North Division champion Blue Jays. The 'Tees (3-0 second half, 32-39) jumped all over Dunedin (0-3, 42-28) starting pitcher Ryan Tepera early as they scored four runs off of him in the first two innings. With two outs in the first, T.J. Mittelstaedt singled and then stole second base. Jason Rogers drove him home with a RBI single to left for the first run of the game. Mike Walker then singled to put two on with two out. Cody Hawn stepped in and cleared the bases with his 18th double of the season to give Brevard a 3-0 lead. He was thrown out trying to take third base to end the first. Hawn was the only Manatee with a multi-hit night as he was 2-for-2 with a walk. With one on and one out in the second, John Dishon doubled to put runners at the corners. Joey Paciorek then scored on a Nick Shaw ground out to give Brevard a 3-0 lead. After the second inning, Brevard did not muster much offense against the Blue Jays. Just four more men reached base for the Manatees in the last seven innings. Dunedin cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth as 'Tees starter Andy Moye (3-0, 4.61) gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Schimpf. Those would be the only two runs that Moye would allow as he yielded four hits in six innings of work. After Eric Arnett pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Moye in the seventh; Eric Marzec entered the game in the eighth. Marzec walked the first two hitters, but then struck out the next two. Schimpf then stepped in and drove in his third run of the game on a single to center to cut Brevard's lead to 4-3. The Blue Jays then called on a pinch hitter - All-Star Jon Talley - to face Marzec, but Joe Ayrault made the call to the bullpen to Greg Holle. It took Holle just two pitches to retire Talley as he grounded out to second to end the threat and the inning. Holle stayed in the game in the ninth and threw a perfect inning for his third save of the season as the 'Tees won their third game in a row. Brevard County will continue their seven-game homestand on Sunday at 5:05 p.m., as they welcome the Charlotte Stone Crabs to Space Coast Stadium for a four-game series. The Manatees took two of three from the Stone Crabs in Port Charlotte back in May. Taylor Jungmann (5-4, 3.83) will take the mound for the Manatees. In a start against Charlotte on May 22, Jungmann went 7.2 innings and struck out a career-high eight hitters. Kyle Farnsworth, who is on a Major League rehab assignment from the Rays, will pitch the first inning of Sunday's game for the Stone Crabs. Albert Suarez (4-3, 3.64) will follow Farnsworth on the hill for Charlotte. Box Score Alright, great sweep! Cody Hawn (2-2 2 2B BB) is inching his season towards respectable, but that process is not complete. Jason Rogers (1-3 BB SB) is feeling to the promotion buzz. T.J. Mittelstaedt (1-4 SB) keeps fillling up box scores in any way possible including when he committed his 8th error on the season. Andy Moye started and was pretty darn good, especially when you consider the lineup he faced. 6 IP 4 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB 2 K 1 HR 2 WP 9:5 GO:FO. The only reliever to run into trouble was Eric Marzec but Greg Holle bailed him out big (see game story). 2 K's and 2 GO for Holle. Game Log Ducks on the pond XBH's. The best. Brevard County Bottom of the 1st Nick Shaw flies out to center fielder Jake Marisnick. Reggie Keen grounds out, shortstop Kevin Nolan to first baseman Kevin Ahrens. T. J. Mittelstaedt singles on a line drive to center fielder Jake Marisnick. With Jason Rogers batting, T. Mittelstaedt steals (12) 2nd base. Jason Rogers singles on a line drive to left fielder Marcus Knecht. T. Mittelstaedt scores. Mike Walker singles on a line drive to left fielder Marcus Knecht. Jason Rogers to 2nd. Cody Hawn doubles (18) on a line drive to left fielder Marcus Knecht. Jason Rogers scores. Mike Walker scores. Cody Hawn out at 3rd on the throw, left fielder Marcus Knecht to catcher Koby Clemens to third baseman Ryan Schimpf.

Other randomness: 2+ weeks in and Cam Garfield is hitting. .297/.367/.455. The T-Rats might actually be tougher in the 2nd half with Cam and Haniger in the fold. Reggie Keen has 11 Sac Hits and 1 Sac Fly. The new super stud may be 17-year old RF Elvis Rubio. .309/.433/.455 9:9 K:BB 3:0 SB:CS Carlos Belonis has been picking it up lately. .246/.319/.361 5:20 BB:K 11:3 SB:CS is certainly not Arcia-ian, however. (Pretty sure this is before Friday's games.) Jason Rogers is inching towards .300/.400/.500 territory.

Billings (Reds) 9 Helena 4 Box Score Another ugly game on the ledger for the Brewers farm teams. This game was lost during the 6-run 6th inning for Billings. 31st round 2012 Harvard draft pick Brent Suter got the start and was not the best. 3 IP 4 H 2 ER 2 R 0 BB 2 K 1 HR 6:0 GO:FO. He is the de facto #4 SP on this Helena team it appears. 2012 5th rounder Tyler Wagner made his pro debut. He was cruising until he got stuck in his 3rd inning. He was not helped by 2011 draft pick Mike Francisco. Mike recorded 0 outs before being removed for 2010 13th rounder Michael White. White recorded the final 10 outs giving up a single run and recorded 3 K's. The hitters were worse than the pitchers on this night. Only 5 hits and 1 BB in the box. Raul Mondesi Jr. went 1-2 with BB. Chris McFarland went 1-3 with a SF. SS Alfredo Rodriguez went 1-3 with a 3B. C Michael Turay went 1-3. The 3-5 hitters (Reed, Garza, Giacalone) went 0-12. Giacalone and McFarland committed their 1st errors. Garza his 3rd. Mondesi Jr. threw out anther runer. That's 3. Game Log Wagner's early cruise. Brevard edges Dunedin, 6-5 06/22/2012 11:04 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 3-0 deficit and held on to defeat the Dunedin Blue Jays, 6-5 on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees' (2-0 second half, 31-39 overall) rally in the sixth started with a lead-off walk by T.J. Mittelstaedt. Jason Rogers and Mike Walker then had back-to-back singles, with Walker's driving in Mittelstaedt and chasing Dunedin (0-2, 42-27) starter Marcus Walden from the game. The new reliever Boomer Potts faced just one batter as he walked Cody Hawn to load the bases. Dustin Antolin came in for the Blue Jays and was rudely greeted by Shea Vucinich who singled to plate Rogers and cut Dunedin's lead to 3-2. Antolin retired the next two hitters but then allowed a bases-loaded, two-out walk to Nick Shaw that tied the game at 3-3. Reggie Keen then stepped in and hit a hot shot to second baseman Ryan Schimpf for an infield single. Schimpf tried throwing out Vucinich at third, but his throw was wild as the Manatees took a 5-3 lead. As quickly as Brevard County took the lead, Dunedin tied the game back up in the seventh as Seth Harvey allowed a two-out, two-run homer to Jake Marisnick. The Blue Jays lead would be short lived though as the 'Tees took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double to left by Hawn. Brevard was unable to plate any insurance runs in the eighth, despite two hits in the inning. The Manatees ran themselves out of the inning, as Shaw was thrown out stealing second and Keen was caught in a rundown for the final out of the inning. Dunedin made the top of the ninth interesting against Brevard's All-Star closer Casey Medlen. After striking out Michael Crouse, Medlen walked Jonathan Jones and allowed a single to Kevin Nolan, which put the go-ahead run on base. Medlen then settled down and forced a fly out in foul territory and a strike out to seal the game and give the 'Tees their second straight win. Manatees starting pitcher Brandon Williamson (1-4, 5.87) threw five innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three as he did not factor in the decision. Walker led the way at the plate for Brevard as he went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Both Hawn and Keen had two hits each as Hawn had two doubles and Keen drove in two runs. Brevard County will be going for the three-game sweep of the first half champion Blue Jays on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. Andy Moye (2-0, 5.06) will toe the rubber for the 'Tees. He struck out five in three innings of relief in his only other appearance against Dunedin back on May 25. The Blue Jays will send Jesse Hernandez (0-1, 40.50) to the mound for his second start in the Florida State League. In his first start after being called up from Class A Lansing, Hernandez went just 1.1 innings and allowed six runs against the Clearwater Threshers this past Monday. Box Score Very nice game for Brevard County as they look for the sweep of 1st place Dunedin tomorrow. Reggie Keen, the leading base-stealer and the 24th leading hitter in the FSL, went 2-5 but had more trouble on the base paths. T.J. Mittelstaedt, 9th in OPS, 6th in homers, 5th in TB's and t-4th in RBI in the FSL, went 0-3 with a BB. Mike Walker had a huge game going 3-4. Cody Hawn (2-3 2 2B BB) added to his doubles pile with 2 more tonight. Newcomer Jason Rogers went 1-3 with a BB. Rogers played LF tonight. Brandon Williamson (5 IP 5 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 3 K 2 HBP 4:6 GO:FO) and four relievers appeared for the Sea Cows tonight. New kid Seth Harvey fared the worst giving up 2 runs in his lone inning on a 2-out HR to top prospect Jake Marisnick. It was actually Jake's first homer since April when he it 3. Naturally, Seth ended up with the win due to the 5-run Sea Cow inning before he entered the game. Greg Holle and Casey Medlen finished in style with 4 K in 2 IP. Check out the FSL hitting leader boards. Tough, tough league to hit. Also makes Mittelstaedt's performance more impressive, and his All-Star snub more egregious. Game Log The big inning. 'Tees open second half with win 06/21/2012 10:16 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/06/21/pQWHr45i.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Brooks Hall went a season-high six innings and allowed just one unearned run as Brevard County defeated Dunedin, 7-1 on Thursday night. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees opened up the second half of the 2012 season on a high note as they defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays, 7-1 on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium. The 'Tees received a quality performance from starting pitcher Brooks Hall (2-3, 4.23) as he went a season-high six innings and allowed just one unearned run. He yielded five hits, while walking two and striking out one. Brevard (1-0 second half, 30-39 overall) broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth by plating two runs. New Manatee Jason Rogers singled up the middle with one out to drive in Nick Shaw. Mike Walker then grounded out to third to score T.J. Mittelstaedt and give the 'Tees a 3-1 lead. In the seventh, Brevard County busted the game wide open as they put four on the board. Shea Vucinich led the frame off with a single and then moved to second, two batters later on a single from Franklin Romero Jr. Nick Shawn then singled through the hole at second, plating both Vucinich and Romero Jr. Following a Dunedin (0-1, 42-25) pitching change, the damage wasn't done as Mittelstaedt doubled to center to drive in Shaw. Rogers then drove in Mittelstaedt for the fourth run of the inning and the Manatees had a comfortable 7-1 lead. The Manatees racked up 11 hits and went 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position on the night. Catcher Parker Berberet led the way at the dish as he went 3-for-4. Shaw, Rogers, Vucinich and Romero Jr. added two hits each. Following Hall's departure from the game, Brian Garman and Casey Medlen held the Blue Jays scoreless for the final three innings. Garman struck out three in two innings of work and Medlen fanned two in the ninth. Brevard County and Dunedin will square off in the second game of their three-game set on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Brandon Williamson (1-4, 6.21) will take the hill for the Manatees as he is looking for his first win since May 19. The Blue Jays will send Marcus Walden to the mound, who is making his first appearance since being promoted from Class A Lansing. Box Score Brooks Hall pitched very well if you care about runs only. It was a unimpressive line for those trying to project major league success on Brooks. 6 IP 5 H 1 R 0 ER 2 BB 1 K 1 WP 2:8 GO:FO. If you dream on Brooks Hall, you get Jake Odorizzi. At this point, I am hoping for Michael Fiers and praying he is not Josh Butler. Brooks turns 22 on 6/26, so the prospect clock is starting to tick. Casey Medlen and Brian Garman dominated the final 3 innings giving up a single hit and recording 5 K's. Both men are posting very solid seasons. In effort to get Nick Shaw going again, him and Reggie Keen have swapped spots in the order. That is actually probably the best fit right now giving their skills and current production. Shaw went 1-4 with a BB. T.J. Mittelstaedt remains an effective 3-hitter going 1-3 with a 2B and a BB. New guy Jason Rogers went 2-4. The 7-9 hitters (Shea Vucinich, Parker Berberet, Franklin Romero Jr.) went 7-12 with 2 2B's. Brooks Hall had one of his WP's changed to a PB post game. Game Log Must've been shallow.
