Late I-Cubs Homer Sinks Sounds, 5-4 06/07/2012 10:42 PM ET Nashville Sounds DES MOINES, Iowa - Left-fielder Ty Wright belted a go-ahead, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Iowa Cubs a 5-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds in the opener of a six-game series on Thursday night at Principal Park. With the Sounds leading 4-3 entering the bottom of the eighth, Josh Vitters hit a one-out single off Mike McClendon (2-3) before Wright went deep on the following play. The back-and-forth contest had four lead changes and was Nashville's (22-37) eighth last at-bat loss of the season. Before the loss, the Sounds were 7-0 when blowing a save this season and had not lost a game when leading after the 6th, 7th, or 8th inning, the only PCL club with that distinction. Center fielder Logan Schafer had two hits including a double. Right field Jay Gibbons recorded his first multiple-hit effort with two hits. Jason Jaramillo extended his season-high hitting streak to six games with a hit. The Sounds took an early 1-0 lead in the visiting half of the second on an unearned run on Iowa starting pitcher Chris Volstad. Gibbons hit a two-out single to left, moved to second on a fielding error, and scored as Jaramillo hit a bloop single to centerfield. The RBI by Jaramillo was his first of the season for the Sounds. The Cubs came back and scored three unanswered runs for a 3-1 lead, beginning with their first run in the bottom of the second thanks Dave Sappelt RBI single. The Cubs started their next inning with runners on second and third and no out before moving ahead at 3-1. Anthony Rizzo singled in their first run on an infield groundout before Vitters hit a two-out double to deep left. Nashville tied the game 3-3 in the top of the sixth on Jordan Brown's third homer of the year. After Schafer singled, Brown blasted a two-run shot to left field that was originally ruled a double. The umpires would end up changing the call to home run, which caused Iowa manager Dave Bialas to argue and get ejected. Nashville went back ahead at 4-3 in the next frame. Pinch hitter Caleb Gindl smoked a double off the outfield wall and would score the go-ahead run two batters later when shortstop Jeff Bianchi lined a two-out, RBI two-bagger to right field. Sounds starter Wily Peralta took a no-decision, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five in six strong innings. The 23-year-old threw a season-high 111 pitches (61 strikes) for his fifth quality start. Volstad gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out seven in seven innings pitched. Jeff Beliveau (2-3) picked up the victory with a scoreless frame. Scott Maine worked around a walk to convert his fourth save. The Sounds and division-rival Iowa Cubs continue their six-game series with a double-header on Friday beginning at 5:05 pm CT at Principal Park. Nashville right-hander Claudio Vargas (1-0, 4.30) will toe the rubber against Iowa righty Rodrigo Lopez (1-0, 2.52) in the opener. Right-hander Donovan Hand (1-0, 4.32) will start the night cap for the Sounds against Iowa left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith (2-0, 5.74). Box Score Wily Peralta's start was termed 'strong' in the game story, but color me unimpressed. 111 pitches in 6 innings is pretty inefficient. He gave up more hits than IP. He walked 2 unintentionally and struck out 3. He hit a guy. He threw a wild pitch. The 7:2 GO:FO ratio is his only redeeming peripheral. But, hey, this start was better than the last. Mike McClendon really botched the 8th inning costing Peralta a feel good victory. 3-hitter Logan Schafer went 2-4 with a 2B. Caleb Gindl pinch hit for Peralta and finished 1-2 with a 2B. Peralta is hitting .313 this season. Gindl is hitting .209. Sean Halton's play has been sporadic. He came into today hitting .276/.362/.434 and left with a BB in his only PA. The Josh Hamilton of PCL baseball is Anthony Rizzo. You will be hard pressed to find a better stat line in the minors. One of the only knocks on Rizzo is that his bat speed is fringe average to average. It actually reminds me of what people say about Hunter Morris. Now Morris is no Rizzo, but I think they are comparable. Game Log Wily slips out of this jam. Iowa Bottom of the 5th Brett Jackson grounds out, second baseman Eric Farris to first baseman Jordan Brown. Matt Tolbert flies out to right fielder Jay Gibbons. Luis Valbuena doubles (14) on a line drive to center fielder Logan Schafer. Wily Peralta intentionally walks Anthony Rizzo. With Josh Vitters batting, wild pitch by Wily Peralta, Luis Valbuena to 3rd. Anthony Rizzo to 2nd. Josh Vitters strikes out swinging. See the game story for a vague ejection explanation. Nashville Top of the 6th Logan Schafer singles on a bunt ground ball to first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Jordan Brown homers (3) on a fly ball to left field. Logan Schafer scores. Iowa Cubs Manager Dave Bialas ejected by 3B umpire Angel Campos. Andy Gonzalez flies out to center fielder Brett Jackson. Jay Gibbons flies out to center fielder Brett Jackson. Eric Farris strikes out on foul tip. Gameday

Manatees top Hammerheads, 8-5 06/06/2012 10:36 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and held on to defeat the Jupiter Hammerheads 8-5 on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The 'Tees pounded out 12 hits with Mike Walker leading the way as he went 3-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored. Scott Krieger, Cody Hawn and 19-year-old Michael Reed in his Manatees debut had two hits each. Andy Moye (2-0, 5.89) had his longest start since joining Brevard County as he went 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (all earned) on six hits. He walked three and struck out two to earn his first win since May 20. Brevard jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Shea Vucinich hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season. The Manatees scored four runs in the third - all with two outs - on three consecutive RBI singles by Walker, Krieger and Hawn. Moye ran into some trouble in the bottom of the third as he allowed a lead-off walk to Ryan Fisher and then a double to Danny Black to put runners on second and third. Fisher then scored on a sacrifice fly for Jupiter's first run of the game. Major league rehabber Austin Kearns was hit by a pitch and then Mark Canha grounded into a force out that Walker took himself at third to get the lead runner. Aaron Dudley then hit a triple to right to clear the bases and cut Brevard County's lead to 5-3. After plating a run in the sixth, the 'Tees put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh on a two-run homer by Walker - his sixth of the season - to take an 8-3 lead. Walker has been a road warrior this season as he is hitting .327 (34-for-104) with four homers and 25 RBI in 27 away game this season. Conversely, Walker is hitting .241 with two homers and 11 RBI in 31 games at Space Coast Stadium in 2012. Brevard County and Jupiter will face-off again on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. for the third game of their four-game set. Brooks Hall (1-2, 4.40) will get the ball for the 'Tees as he is looking for his second straight victory. He allowed just one run in 5 2/3 innings of work against Bradenton in the second game of last Saturday's doubleheader. For the Hammerheads, it will be Chad James (3-3, 4.53) taking the mound. Strangely, James has pitched better on the road than at home as he is 1-2 with a 6.26 ERA in six starts at Roger Dean Stadium so far this season. Box Score Michael Reed (2-3 BB SB) and Michael Walker (3-5 HR (6) E (10)) starred for the offense tonight. Reed's walk came with the bases loaded. Savvy. The next two guys after the walk struck out. I have to think expectations for Reed are starting to rise. Hopefully he can team with Mitch Haniger, and possibly Clint Coulter, to form a incredibly potent middle of the order for Helena. It's just a shame that Victor Roache and Orlando Arcia are not going to play this season. The Brewers have a lot riding on that rookie ball wave of hitting prospects. Wow, I am pumped for short season! Andy Moye was so-so, but he limited the damage. 5.1 IP 6 H 3 R 3 ER 3 BB 2 K 1 HBP 7:7 GO:FO. So-so is a good way to describe Moye since his promotion. Greg Holle got a 6-out save with 2 scoreless IP. Game Log Baseball cardinal sin #11: Do not make the final out at 3rd base. Brevard County Top of the 1st Nick Shaw flies out to left fielder Dallas Poulk. Shea Vucinich homers (4) on a fly ball to left field. T. J. Mittelstaedt strikes out swinging. Mike Walker singles on a line drive to center fielder Daniel Pertusati, deflected by pitcher Rob Rasmussen. Scott Krieger singles on a line drive to left fielder Dallas Poulk. Mike Walker out at 3rd on the throw, left fielder Dallas Poulk to third baseman Ryan Fisher. Two out magic. Brevard County Top of the 3rd Michael Reed singles on a line drive to center fielder Daniel Pertusati. Nick Shaw walks. Michael Reed to 2nd. Shea Vucinich out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Rob Rasmussen to first baseman Mark Canha. Michael Reed to 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd. T. J. Mittelstaedt strikes out swinging. Mike Walker singles on a ground ball to right fielder Austin Kearns. Michael Reed scores. Nick Shaw scores. Mike Walker to 2nd on the throw. Scott Krieger singles on a ground ball to center fielder Daniel Pertusati. Mike Walker scores. Scott Krieger to 2nd on the throw. Cody Hawn singles on a line drive to right fielder Austin Kearns. Scott Krieger scores. Parker Berberet grounds into a force out, shortstop Danny Black to second baseman Noah Perio. Cody Hawn out at 2nd. Moye's troubles. Jupiter Bottom of the 3rd Ryan Fisher walks. Danny Black doubles (5) on a line drive to right fielder Scott Krieger. Ryan Fisher to 3rd. Jacob Realmuto out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Michael Reed. Ryan Fisher scores. Austin Kearns hit by pitch. Mark Canha grounds into a force out, fielded by third baseman Mike Walker. Danny Black out at 3rd. Austin Kearns to 2nd. Mark Canha to 1st. Aaron Dudley triples (1) on a line drive to right fielder Scott Krieger. Austin Kearns scores. Mark Canha scores. Noah Perio grounds out to first baseman Cody Hawn. Garman brings the goods. And I just realized I have been spelling Brian's name with an 'i' at the end instead of an 'a'. You guys can tell me, I can take it. Jupiter Bottom of the 6th Noah Perio grounds out, first baseman Cody Hawn to pitcher Andy Moye. Dallas Poulk walks. Daniel Pertusati singles on a line drive to left fielder T. J. Mittelstaedt. Dallas Poulk to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Brian Garman replaces Andy Moye. Ryan Fisher strikes out swinging. Danny Black strikes out swinging. The 2nd lead off hit for Reed. Brevard County Top of the 8th Pitcher Change: Arquimedes Caminero replaces Raudel Lazo. Michael Reed singles on a ground ball to right fielder Marcell Ozuna. With Nick Shaw batting, Michael Reed steals (1) 2nd base. Nick Shaw walks. Shea Vucinich grounds into a force out, fielded by third baseman Ryan Fisher. Michael Reed out at 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd. Shea Vucinich to 1st. T. J. Mittelstaedt called out on strikes. Mike Walker flies out to right fielder Marcell Ozuna.

Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 6-20
Tedaldtada replied to battlekow's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I sometimes wonder if Perfect Game is on the optimistic side of the scouting bell curve overall. Of course, I have only read the Brewers' reports, but they seem pretty bullish on most of our picks. Ortega's and Rivera's reports sound very much like Yadiel Rivera's when he came up. Both appear to have great upside, especially Edgardo Rivera. PG even suggested the unknown Rivera was being intentionally hidden from other teams by a mystery team because they loved him so much. Juicy gossip! The pitchers all sound promising. I know Kendall Rogers thought Buck Farmer was an 'absolute steal'. -
Rogers Tosses Gem As Sounds Blank Z's, 1-0 06/05/2012 10:46 PM ET Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Mark Rogers turned in one of the best outings of his pro career in leading the Nashville Sounds to a 1-0 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday evening at Greer Stadium. Rogers (2-3) matched a career high with seven scoreless innings of action, scattering five hits during his 86-pitch effort. He walked one batter and fanned three in his third quality start of the season, facing only two batters over the minimum during his outing. Jim Henderson followed Rogers with a pair of hitless innings to earn his third save and close out the Sounds' fifth shutout win of the season, tied with Las Vegas and New Orleans for most in the PCL. New Orleans advanced a runner as far as second base only twice all evening and both runners were left stranded. Left fielder Corey Patterson provided the only offense that Nashville needed when he led off the bottom of the first inning with his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left on a 3-1 offering from New Orleans starter Tom Koehler. It was the Sounds' second leadoff homer of the year (Logan Schafer, April 21). With the victory, Nashville (21-36) gained a split of the four-game series with the Zephyrs. It was the Sounds' second 1-0 victory of the year; both have come against New Orleans at Greer Stadium. Koehler (6-5) took a hard-luck loss for the Zephyrs. He allowed only one hit, the Patterson leadoff homer, in his six innings of work. The right-hander walked two batters and struck out seven. Sounds catcher Jason Jaramillo singled in the eighth inning to extend his longest hitting streak of the season to five games. The backstop is batting .316 in six games since joining Nashville. Following a league-wide off day tomorrow, the Sounds embark on a nine-game, seven-day road trip to Iowa and Memphis that includes a pair of doubleheaders in Des Moines which will make up April rainouts. Nashville begins a six-game series at Iowa's Principal Park on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Wily Peralta (1-7, 6.83) will make the start for the Sounds and face off against Iowa right-hander Chris Volstad (2-0, 4.12). Box Score Mark Rogers and Jim Henderson combined for the perfectly prescribed medication to the Nashville woes. A shutout. I have to think this is the most encouraging thing we have seen from Rogers in quite some time. As it has always been with Mark, when he throws quality strikes, he puts up zeros. Final line: 7 IP 5 H 0 R 1 BB 3 K 5:4 GO:FO. 53 strikes in 86 pitches. All 7 innings Rogers finished were quick, but only 3 were perfect. Jim Henderson did his thang to preserve the shutout and earn the 2 inning save. Corey Patterson homered to lead off the bottom of the 1st, and that was that. 3-hitter Logan Schafer went 1-3. Caleb Gindl (0-2) was double switched out of the game again. Game Log Veteran play by Henderson to release Mark Rogers from his 8th inning burden. New Orleans Top of the 8th Nick Green doubles (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Logan Schafer. Pitcher Change: Jim Henderson replaces Mark Rogers, batting 6th. Defensive Substitution: Jay Gibbons replaces pitcher Mark Rogers, batting 9th, playing right field. Luke Montz reaches on a fielder's choice out, pitcher Jim Henderson to third baseman Andy Gonzalez to shortstop Jeff Bianchi. Nick Green out at 2nd. Matt Dominguez lines out to left fielder Corey Patterson. Steve Holm grounds out, shortstop Jeff Bianchi to first baseman Jordan Brown. Hammer New Orleans Top of the 9th Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Mike Cervenak replaces Chris Hatcher. Mike Cervenak called out on strikes. Kevin Mattison pops out to shortstop Jeff Bianchi. Gil Velazquez strikes out swinging. Gameday

Brevard drops series opener to Jupiter 06/05/2012 10:19 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees JUPITER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees fell 8-1 in their series opener with the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Manatees starting pitcher Jed Bradley allowed a season-high six earned runs in five innings of work. The 2011 first round draft pick ran into trouble early in the first inning. Bradley allowed a one-out single to Jacob Realmuto and then gave up three consecutive walks, the last of which drove in Realmuto. He was able to retire the next two hitters and leave the bases loaded with Hammerheads. The next inning, Bradley gave up two runs on three hits and then Jupiter took a 7-0 lead with a four-run fourth. Jupiter had four hits in the inning and benefitted from a wild pitch by Bradley and two errors by Shea Vucinich. The southpaw departed after five innings and surrendered nine hits to Jupiter, while walking three and striking out two. Since his return from the disabled list, Bradley (4-5, 4.42) is 0-2 with a 6.89 ERA in three starts. Brevard County (24-33) scored its only run of the night in the top of the sixth. Franklin Romero Jr. led the inning off with a triple single and then a ground-rule double by T.J. Mittelstaedt put runners on second and third with no outs. After a Mike Walker strikeout, Vucinich grounded out to third to plate Romero Jr. Reggie Keen left the game in the second inning with an apparent ankle injury and 'Tees manager Joe Ayrault was ejected in the seventh for arguing a dropped third strike call. The Manatees will look to get back on track on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. for the second of four games with the Hammerheads (28-30). Andy Moye (1-0, 6.23) will take the hill for the Manatees. Moye allowed six runs on seven hits in five innings of work in his last start this past Thursday. For Jupiter, Rob Rasmussen (2-6, 4.35) will toe the rubber. Rasmussen will be in search of his first win since May 4. Box Score Jed Bradley is a mess right now. Final line today: 5 IP 9 H 7 R 6 ER 3 BB 2 K 1 WP 7:5 GO:FO. If you just look at his stat lines, Bradley really has not had a good start since his 3rd one of the year. That would have been unthinkable April 17th, but here we are. Maybe, in a similar fashion to Hunter Morris, a promotion to hometown Huntsville would do wonders for Jedidiah. Like Morris, Bradley will likely spend the full year in A+. T.J. Mittelstaedt had the only XBH for the 'Tees. No one had multiple hits and walks. This team was a mess today. Manager ejections, player injuries, top prospect failures and no hitting to speak of. Tomorrow is a new day my friends. Game Log

Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
Tedaldtada replied to battlekow's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Yeah, those picks too xisxisxis. Thank you for your always pleasant contribution. Of course, both those guys you mentioned would look pretty decent in a Brewers uniform right now. So, I take it you do not like the Roache pick, or is your opinion a secret? Edit: And I was not referring to the reactions at bf.net, I was talking about the mixed scouting reports referenced by a previous poster. -

I'll throw a few hitting comps out there: Best case: Somehwere around Nelson Cruz or Dan Uggla. Lots of K's but also a ton of power. Absolute best case would be either one of those guys but with an average closer to .300. Recent draftee comp: Michael Choice of the Oakland A's At worst: I see a Delmon Young-ish batting line. .260/.320/.435 The closest skills match in the Brewers system: Probably 2012 Corey Hart (i.e. much less speed than 2005 Hart). Victor has a long way to go to reach even Delmon Young territory, but I like his makeup, and that helps. He is still only 20, so he has time. These mixed reactions remind of the Prince pick. -
Just wanted to thank TLB, TC07 and MH for covering for me last night. My son came down with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease and basically did not sleep a wink. Tonight should be better and the virus should be gone within a few days. ****** Look for the Arizona Brewers to be drafted today! And prolly a few Helena guys too!

Pitching Prospect Velocity Reports (Updated for 2012)
Tedaldtada replied to Tedaldtada's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
John Torres from Florida Today on Jimmy Nelson: "He topped out at 95 on the radar gun..." In the same article, he mentioned that Gerrit Cole was sitting 98-99 with his last pitch being at 99. Whoa. -
1 Tyler Thornburg 2 Wily Peralta 3 Jimmy Nelson 4 Taylor Jungmann 5 Jed Bradley 6 Scooter Gennett 7 Hunter Morris 8 Jorge Lopez 9 Logan Schafer 10 Orlando Arcia 11 Caleb Gindl 12 Brooks Hall 13 Drew Gagnon 14 Nic Bucci 15 Cody Scarpetta 16 Ruben Ozuna 17 Chris McFarland 18 Max Walla 19 Yaddy Rivera 20 Michael Reed 21 Nick Ramirez 22 Santo Manzanillo 23 Kyle Heckathorn 24 Sthervin Matos 25 Gian Rizzo 26 Carlos Belonis 27 Joel Dicent 28 Orlando Torrez 29 Raul Mondesi Jr. 30 Milton Gomez 31 Andy Moye 32 Khris Davis 33 David Goforth 34 Chadwin Stang 35 Cam Garfield 36 Dustin Houle 37 T.J. The next tier was from 13-30. Then another tier from 31-55. The guys who just missed: Kentrail Davis Matt Miller Tyler Roberts Mark Williams Josh Prince Maverick Lasker Nick Shaw Ben McMahan John Dishon Sean Halton Jason Rogers I did not include Richardson and Osmel Perez because they apparently are not baseball players anymore. I also left of Fiers and Green because they will be graduates soon. I am pretty bullish on much of the Latin talent from the DR Academy. I also think Chris McFarland will make a big jump. My toughest omission was probably Ben McMahan. I am sticking with Peralta at #2 because one bad month should never make or break a prospect. His first 3-4 starts were as dominant as any stretch by anyone in the system this season. He is at the highest level and probably has the most projectable stuff in the system this side of Jimmy Nelson. I refuse to knee-jerk! Edit: Forgot Joel Pierce. Added him.

2012 General Draft Discussion
Tedaldtada replied to colbyjack's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I'll make my predictions: 1A: Clint Coulter: I would love this pick. Reminds me a lot of the Lawrie pick minus the douche nozzle-ness (hopefully). 1B: Travis Jankowski: i wanted to put down Lewis Brinson, but I think the Brewers will play it safer. Jankowski is plenty impressive in his own right as a small school kid with solid to plus tools. 1C: JO Berrios: I think they continue the P.R. trend (Jorge Lopez and Yadiel Rivera) with this big armed youngster. -
Sounds Drop Afternoon Matinee To Zephyrs, 7-3 06/03/2012 5:41 PM ET Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds were handed a 7-3 defeat by the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs in the second game of a four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Greer Stadium. Nashville (21-35) stranded 11 batters on the afternoon and went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Right fielder Jordan Brown went 2-for-5 for his third straight multi-hit game. Center fielder Logan Schafer, who entered the game as a defensive replacement, added two hits in two at-bats. New Orleans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third against starting pitcher Brian Baker, who walked three, fanned two, and committed a throwing error in the visiting half of the third. Nashville scored their only three runs in the third inning. After shortstop Jeff Bianchi it a ground-rule double down the left field line, third baseman Andy Gonzalez hit a two-out RBI single to left field to knot the contest. Outfielder Caleb Gindl followed with a two-run triple (Audio) off the center field batter's eye to score Gonzalez and Halton, who reached earlier on a walk. Consecutive two-out RBI singles by Gil Velazquez and Scott Cousins tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth and removed Baker from the game. Cousins would later swipe second base and attempt to score the go-ahead run, but was thrown out at home by outfielder Corey Patterson. New Orleans broke through in the next frame with two unearned runs against Amaury Rivas for a 5-3 lead. Mat Dominguez reached on a fielding error by Gonzalez to begin the frame, moved to second on a walk, and scored the first run on a RBI double from pinch hitter Luke Montz. On the following play, Kevin Mattison hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field. The Z's tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth for a 7-3 advantage thanks to doubles from pinch hitter Nick Green and Cousins, sandwiched around a walk to Velazquez. Both starters took no-decisions on the afternoon. Baker yielded three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks in 4 2/3 innings. Hand also gave up three runs on four hits and four walks in four frames. Rivas (3-3) allowed two unearned runs on a couple of hits and walks in 2/3 of an inning for the loss. (Victor Garate) followed with 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Mike McClendon gave up two runs on a 1 1/3 innings. Johnnie Lowe worked around two hits in a scoreless inning of work. Mike Dunn (1-1) followed Hand with a scoreless frame for the win. The Sounds and Zephyrs will continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Monday evening. Right-hander Seth McClung (1-5, 4.93) will toe the rubber for Nashville against New Orleans southpaw Wade LeBlanc (2-4, 3.50). Box Score So Caleb Gindl (1-3 3B) was pulled for defensive reasons in favor of Logan Schafer (2-2) in the top of the 6th. That is somewhat interesting I guess. Sean Halton went 1-3 with a 2B and a BB. Jeff Bianchi (1-3 2B BB), Jordan Brown (2-5) and Andy Gonzalez (1-5, okay but he has been hitting) all continue their hot hitting. Five Sounds pitchers made an appearance and none of them really earned a mention. The scoreless innings that were thrown were far from clean. AUDIO: Bianchi Turns Double Play Game Log Double dose of double switches. New Orleans Top of the 6th Steve Holm strikes out swinging. Matt Dominguez reaches on fielding error by third baseman Andy Gonzalez. Chase Lambin walks. Matt Dominguez to 2nd. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Luke Montz replaces Mike Dunn. Luke Montz doubles (5) on a line drive to center fielder Caleb Gindl. Matt Dominguez scores. Chase Lambin to 3rd. Pitcher Change: Victor Garate replaces Amaury Rivas, batting 6th. Defensive Substitution: Logan Schafer replaces pitcher Amaury Rivas, batting 9th, playing center field. Kevin Mattison out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Logan Schafer. Chase Lambin scores. Gil Velazquez grounds out, shortstop Jeff Bianchi to first baseman Sean Halton. New Orleans Top of the 7th Scott Cousins grounds out, second baseman Eric Farris to first baseman Sean Halton. Gaby Sanchez flies out to center fielder Logan Schafer. Mike Cervenak singles on a line drive to right fielder Jordan Brown. Steve Holm walks. Mike Cervenak to 2nd. Pitcher Change: Mike McClendon replaces Victor Garate, batting 2nd. Defensive Substitution: Hainley Statia replaces pitcher Victor Garate, batting 6th, playing shortstop. Matt Dominguez grounds into a force out, shortstop Hainley Statia to second baseman Eric Farris. Steve Holm out at 2nd. Gameday

Marauders Drop Another Close One 06/03/2012 1:55 PM ET By Bradenton Marauders Viera, FL- The Bradenton Marauders (24-32) dropped a 3-2 contest in the last of the ninth against the Brevard County Manatees (24-31) at Space Coast Stadium on Sunday. The game ended on a line drive over the first base bag off the bat of T.J. Mittelstaedt with a runner in scoring position for the Manatees. The game started with a matchup of all-star pitchers on the hill with Gerrit Cole starting for the Marauders and Jimmy Nelson throwing for the Manatees. Neither factored in the decision. Cole allowed two runs in the first on hits by the first three batters of the game and an RBI-groundout. Cole settled in to pitch six innings without another run allowed. He struck out six and walked a season-high four. Nelson pitched seven innings. He allowed a solo home run to Stefan Welch in the second. The homer was Welch's team-high seventh of the season. In the fifth the Marauders tied the score on a double by Andy Vasquez to start the inning, a walk to Justin Howard, a sacrifice bunt by Carlos Paulino and finally an RBI-groundout by Dan Grovatt. Quinton Miller (L 0-2) allowed the winning run in the ninth. Kenn Kasparek pitched two scoreless innings after Cole was lifted. Thomas Keeling (W 1-2) got the win by throwing two scoreless frames for the Manatees. The Marauders have dropped nine straight road games. The series concludes Monday night with a 6:35pm first pitch. The game will air on News Talk 930 WLSS.

Brevard walks off with win in pitcher's duel 06/03/2012 9:49 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/06/03/r59KZdWw.jpg Jimmy Nelson's 2.12 ERA now leads the FSL. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - It was the pitching duel that was expected between newly named Florida State League All-Stars Jimmy Nelson and Gerrit Cole, but neither factored into the decision as the Brevard County Manatees defeated the Bradenton Marauders 3-2 on a walk-off single by T.J. Mittelstaedt on Sunday night. With the game tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Nick Shaw led off the inning by drawing a lead-off walk off of new reliever Quinton Miller. Then with Shaw running, Reggie Keen grounded to the second baseman Drew Maggi as Shaw was in motion to second. Shaw reached second before Maggi could make a play there, so he had to take the out at first. With the winning run in scoring position, Mittelstaedt stepped to the plate and ripped a frozen rope down the first base line past the diving Alex Dickerson, on a ball that was very close to being called foul. It was ruled a fair ball and just like that, Shaw scored and the Manatees (24-31) had wrapped up their third consecutive victory. Thomas Keeling earned the win in relief as he threw two scoreless innings while striking out four. The 'Tees jumped on top Cole - the first overall pick of the 2011 draft - early as they plated two runs in the first inning of off him. Shaw and Keen had back-to-back singles to lead off the frame and then Mittelstaedt drove home Shaw with his 11th double of the season. After a Mike Walker strikeout, the Manatees would score their other run of the inning on a RBI groundout by Shea Vucinich to take a 2-0 lead on the Marauders (24-32). Bradenton got one of those runs back off of Nelson in the second as left-handed Stefan Welch took a high and in fastball and deposited it over the right field fence for his seventh homer of the season. Brevard County couldn't get anything else off of Cole (4-1, 2.53) in his other five innings on the mound. Cole went six innings and allowed just the two first inning runs. He scattered six hits, while walking four and striking out six Brevard hitters. The Marauders tied the game at 2-2 with another run off of Nelson in the top of the fifth. Andy Vasquez led the frame off with a double to left and then Justin Howard walked, to put two on with no outs. Carlos Paulino's sacrifice bunt moved both Vasquez and Howard up 90 feet to second and third. Then a RBI groundout by Dan Grovatt plated the tying run. Nelson (4-4, 2.12) departed after seven innings and allowed two runs on just three hits. He walked three and struck out five to bring his season strikeout total to 72, which is second in the FSL. Nelson is also now the league leader in both earned run average and innings pitched. Shaw, Mittelstaedt and Parker Berberet had two hits each for the 'Tees who are hitting .288 as a team in their last ten games. The Manatees will be going for a four-game sweep of the Marauders on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Brandon Williamson (1-2, 3.67) will get the ball for Brevard County. He has gone five innings and struck five batters in each of his last two starts. Bradenton will send Tyler Waldron (4-2, 3.65) to the hill. He has gone seven innings and struck out at least seven in each of his last two starts. Box Score Way to jump on Gerrit Cole! You will not find a pitcher who more consistently sits at 98-99 MPH than Gerrit Cole, so the three 2B's and four BB's are a good sign for our hitters. Two 1st inning runs kept things close until the Manatees walked off in the bottom of the 9th. The hero of the night was T.J Mittelstaedt (2-4 2B BB). 2011 25th rounder Parker Berberet (2-4) is hitting .346 through 26 A+ ball AB's. Mike Walker was 1-2 with two BB's. 'Downhill Thunder' imposed his will on the Bradenton offense allowing only 3 hits, but he did allow his 3rd HR on the year. You will find Jimmy's name littered all over the FSL pitching stat leaderboards. Thomas Keeling actually got the win with 2 scoreless IP and 4 K. Well done. Game Log Boom Bradenton Top of the 1st Gift Ngoepe strikes out swinging. Drew Maggi strikes out swinging. Mel Rojas called out on strikes. ...annnd Boom Bradenton Top of the 9th Andy Vasquez strikes out swinging. Justin Howard flies out to left fielder Scott Krieger. Carlos Paulino strikes out swinging. That is about as good as you can start and finish a game.

Brevard County 4 Bradenton (Pirates) 1 Box Score Another very solid pitching performance for a Manatee starter in the huge double header sweep of the Baby Bucs. This time Brooks Hall had his way. Final line: 5.2 IP 4 H 1 R 1 ER 3 BB 3 K 4:6 GO:FO. Eric Marzec did what Casey Medlen failed to do by stranding two inherited base runners. 2 K in 1.1 IP for Eric. The hitters smacked three more 2B's and stole two more bases in game 2. T.J. Mittelstaedt stole one base in each game giving him 8 on the season. Cody Hawn and Scott Krieger had multi-hit games. I have to give the Manatee hitters credit, they have stepped up here over the past few weeks. Along with the pitchers, the 'Tees have a chance to do some damage over the 2nd half. Manatees Sweep Marauders 06/02/2012 2:28 PM ET By Bradenton Marauders Viera, FL- The Bradenton Marauders (24-31) dropped both games of a doubleheader at Brevard County (23-31) on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Marauders fell by scores of 4-3 and 4-1 and have now lost eight straight road games. The Marauders scored first in the first game when Justin Howard doubled home Alex Dickerson, who had doubled off Taylor Jungmann (W, 4-4) to start the inning. Howard went 2-6 with two doubles between the two games. Dickerson was a combined 2-6 with a run scored and one batted in. Jameson Taillon (L, 3-5) pitched all six innings of game one, but a run in the second and a three-run Manatees outburst in the fourth sent the righty to his third loss in his last four starts. Taillon struck out four. The Marauders closed the gap to one in the final inning of the first game on a two-RBI double by Andy Vasquez with two outs. Casey Medlen struck out Mel Rojas Jr. for the final out to secure his eighth save. Rojas went 3-7 between the two games. In game two the Manatees scored one run in each of the first four innings off Casey Sadler (L, 0-2). Brooks Hall (W 1-2) and Eric Marzec made it stand up. The Marauders play the Manatees Sunday at 5:05pm in the third game of the series. 'Tees hold on to take first game of double dip 06/02/2012 11:07 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees held on to win the first game of Saturday night's doubleheader against the Bradenton Maruaders, by the score of 4-3 at Space Coast Stadium. The Marauders scored two in the seventh and had the tying run on second, but their rally was thwarted. Manatees (22-31) starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann had allowed just one run in six innings before entering the seventh in hopes of a seven-inning complete game. After getting the first out, he hit Carlos Paulino with a pitch and he then advanced to second on defensive indifference. Dan Grovatt then flied out to left for the second out. With a runner on second and two outs, Jungmann walked Gift Ngoepe and then his night was done. Casey Medlen inherited the runners and allowed them to score on a double to left by Andy Vasquez, which cut Brevard's lead to one and put the tying run in scoring position. Medlen was able to shut the door on the Marauders (24-30), by striking out Mel Rojas to earn his eighth save of the season. Jungmann (4-4, 4.02) allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings of work, while allowing seven hits. He walked two and struck out four. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the 'Tees tied it up in the bottom of the inning as Mike Walker led the frame off with a double and was then brought home on a RBI single by Shea Vucinich. The Manatees took a 4-1 lead in the fourth as Cody Hawn, Parker Berberet and Scott Krieger hit three consecutive doubles. Krieger's double plated Hawn and Berberet while Krieger scored on a RBI single by Franklin Romero Jr. Bradenton's Jameson Taillon - the second overall pick of the 2010 draft - threw a six-inning complete game, but was saddled with his fifth loss of the season. Box Score Fantastic game for the Manatees. They faced a beast in Jameson Taillon and the pretty much owned the game. By the way, did Jameson's parents have a thing for Irish whiskey? Taylor Jungmann dominated and deserved a better line but Casey Medlen allowed two inherited runners to score in the top of the 7th before "earning" the save. Final line for Jungmann: 6.2 IP 7 H 3 R 3 ER 2 BB 4 K 2 WP 1 HBP 7:4 GO:FO 1 Pickoff. The hitters had four 2B's tonight, including three in a row in the 3-run 4th. In the win, no hitter recorded more than one hit and walk combined. The Manatee base runners apparently sniffed out a good opportunity in this one. Four steals, including Reggie Keen's 18th and 19th. Game Log May have been a planned pickoff. Bradenton Top of the 2nd Alex Dickerson doubles (9) on a line drive to left fielder Scott Krieger. With Stefan Welch batting, wild pitch by Taylor Jungmann, Alex Dickerson to 3rd. Stefan Welch lines out to pitcher Taylor Jungmann. Evan Chambers walks. With Justin Howard batting, Evan Chambers picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, pitcher Taylor Jungmann to first baseman Mike Walker to shortstop Nick Shaw, Alex Dickerson scores. Justin Howard doubles (6) on a line drive to left fielder Scott Krieger. Carlos Paulino grounds out, second baseman Shea Vucinich to first baseman Mike Walker.
