  1. Brevard County 11 Bradenton (Pirates) 10 Box Score Great sweep. 11 runs in this one as the offense was making things happen all day. Big Brock Kjeldgaard went yard. Cody Hawn had 2 hits including a 2B and a BB. Shea Vucinich had 3 more hits as he moved in the 2-hole for this game. The only effective pitcher was Eric Marzec who notched his 2nd save with 2 9th inning outs. Tommy Toledo made his A+ debut and gave up 4 runs before recording an out. He finished the inning strong though, holding the damage to 4. Jason Rogers is all the way back down to .306. He is still rockin' an approximate 2:1 BB:K in A+. Game Log I will post the game story ASAP. Gameday
  2. Well, my wedding is on July 28th so I too will need someone to recap Helena and Brevard County. Then, and I do not have exact dates, I am going up north for 5-6 days for our honeymoon in early August. I will notify with dates ASAP.
  3. 'Tees snap skid in twin bill opener 07/14/2012 10:00 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees BRADENTON, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees knocked around the second overall pick of the 2010 draft Jameson Taillon, as they defeated the Bradenton Marauders 7-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday night at McKechnie Field. The 'Tees (11-10 second half, 40-49 overall) scored six runs in 4.2 innings against Taillon, who gave up six hits and walked four. In his only other start against Brevard, the 2012 Futures Game participant allowed four runs in six innings of work to suffer the loss back on June 2. Brevard County jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-out RBI single by Brock Kjeldgaard that plated Nick Shaw. Manatees starting pitcher Brooks Hall (3-3, 4.07) got through the first two innings fine, before the Marauders (13-9, 42-50) plated three on Hall in the third. Hall allowed back-to-back lead-off singles before committing a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Gift Ngoepe that tied the game. Hall then allowed back-to-back RBI singles to Mel Rojas and Alex Dickerson as Bradenton took a 3-1 lead. It could have gotten worse for Hall and the 'Tees but Carlos Paulino flew out to right and John Dishon gunned down Rojas at home for the double play. Brevard answered right back in the fourth against Taillon as Hector Gomez led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Gomez then came home on a triple to right by Shea Vucinich which cut Bradenton's lead to 3-2. Joey Paciorek then grounded out to plate Vucinich and tie the game. Dishon then came to the plate and reached on a bunt single to third. After a Reggie Keen fly out and with Nick Shaw batting, Dishon stole second and third and then came home on a RBI single by Shaw as the Manatees retook the lead 4-3. The 'Tees would add two more against Taillon before the night ended thanks to a RBI single by Vucinich and a RBI double by Joey Paciorek that gave Brevard a 6-3 lead. Following the top of the fifth, there was a 45 minute rain delay which effectively ended Hall's night on the hill. Hall went four innings and allowed three runs - two earned - on five hits. He walked two and struck out two, but was not able to qualify for the win. Greg Holle took the mound when play resumed and threw a scoreless fifth, but ran into trouble in the sixth as he allowed two runs on three hits as the Marauders cut Brevard's lead to 6-5. The Manatees were able to get an insurance run in the seventh thanks to a RBI single by Pacoriek. Casey Medlen came on in the bottom of the inning and allowed the lead-off runner to reach on an error, but he would retire the side from there for his 11th save of the season as Brevard snapped a four-game losing streak. The bottom of the order got the job done for Brevard as Vucinich, Paciorek and Dishon combined to go 5-for-11 with three runs scored and five RBI. Four of the Manatees seven RBI came with two outs and the 'Tees went 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Box Score This is now the 2nd time the 'Tees have defeated Jameson Taillon. As a top-20 prospect, I was expecting to see better numbers from Taillon. As it turns out, his season stats are pretty similar to what Taylor Jungmann and Jed Bradley have done thus far. Taillon is younger and throws harder though. On offense, everyone was getting on base. The stars were Shea Vucinich (2-3 3B BB) and Joey Paciorek (2-4 2B). It was Paciorek's first game in 5 days. I would wager it is due to his incredibly slow last 10 games. Brooks Hall got knocked out by the rain delay but not before he gave up a big 3rd inning. A Hall error did not help. 4 IP 5 H 3 R 2 ER 2 BB 2 K 1 WP 4:4 GO:FO. Greg Holle gave up the lead and Casey Medlen pitched well to finish out the game fr his 11th save. Game Log Gameday
  4. Sure, why not?
  5. So, correct me if I am wrong, but I have a six pack of games to cover tonight. Oh gawd, did someone just say six pack? Please, no booze talk. #DayAfterBachelorParty #LetsDoThis Edit: the Nashville double header has been postponed. I guess I will just pass along the buck to next poor sap...
  6. Idaho Falls (Royals) 5 Helena 0 Box Score There were basically three good hitters and one good pitcher tonight for Helena. Leonard Lorenzo continued his fine Pioneer League season with 6 IP 3 H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB 3 K 7:6 GO:FO. The ERA is in the 3's but the peripherals are not the best. David Otterman was next and he got Seinfeld'ed. Chris McFarland (3-3 BB) keeps spraying hits all over the place. I kind of expect him to add power as the season progresses, similar to what Hunter Morris did. The difference, instead of doubles turning into homers, I am hoping singles turn into doubles and triples. Adam Giacalone (2-4) had me scared for second after 5 or so games. He was striking out a lot and not getting any hits. Now, he is up to .261 and looks like a legit hitter, at least in the lower levels, as he is cruising along with a .400+ average and a .900+ OPS over his last 10. The only other hitter with a hit was Emmanuel Quiles (2-4 2B). Michael Reed, Tyrone Taylor and Raul Mondesi Jr went 0-11 with 9 K. The opposing pitcher, Ali Williams, is off to a very fine start this season. Game Log Nary an XBH until the 9th. Helena Top of the 9th Raul Mondesi strikes out swinging, catcher Jin-Ho Shin to first baseman Rainier Bello. Emmanuel Quiles doubles (4) on a fly ball to right fielder Jerico Blanco. Kevin Berard flies out to right fielder Jerico Blanco. With Andres Martinez batting, wild pitch by Joe Lopez, Emmanuel Quiles to 3rd. Andres Martinez strikes out swinging, catcher Jin-Ho Shin to first baseman Rainier Bello.
  7. Marauders Rake Manatees 10-3 07/12/2012 9:58 AM ET By Bradenton Marauders Bradenton, Fla.- The Bradenton Marauders (13-8) secured their 10th come-from-behind victory of the season, rallying from an early 2-0 deficit to roll past the Brevard County Manatees (10-10) by a 10-3 score on Thursday night at McKechnie Field. Every Marauders starter recorded at least one hit in the win. The Manatees plated two runs in the first inning against Tyler Waldron (W, 6-6), but could not maintain their momentum against the righty. Waldron settled in and did not allow another run in six innings. After scoring an unearned run in the second inning, the Marauders tied the game in the fifth with three straight hits off Taylor Jungmann (L 7-5). Mel Rojas Jr. drove home the tying run on an infield single the Jungman deflected. Rojas Jr., Gift Ngoepe and Dan Grovatt all had three hit games. Grovatt's hitting streak now stands at 15 games. With two outs and nobody on in the sixth, the Marauders bats exploded for five straight hits of Jungmann. The Manatees' starter yielded 13 hits and the Marauders had 18 total knocks. A two-RBI single by Rojas Jr. chased Jungmann with the score 6-2. Bradenton scored once in the seventh and three times in the eighth, including Ngoepe's eighth home run of the season. Eliecer Navarro pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Waldron. Zach Foster allowed one run in the ninth to finish the game. Kawika Emsley-Pai went 2-3, recording his first multi-hit game of the season. Justin Howard went 2-3, including a two-RBI triple. Alex Dickerson was a relatively quiet 1-5, but doubled for the 20th time this year. Game three of the series will be played Friday at McKechnie Field. The season series now stands even at three wins apiece. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
  8. 'Tees routed 10-3 by Marauders 07/12/2012 9:55 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees BRADENTON, Fla. - After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Brevard County Manatees allowed ten unanswered runs over the next eight innings as they were crushed 10-3 by the Bradenton Marauders on Thursday night at McKechnie Field for their fourth consecutive loss. A two-out single by Hector Gomez in the first plated Jason Rogers and Mike Walker as the Manatees (10-10 second half, 39-49 overall) took the early 2-0 lead. The Marauders (10-9, 42-49) would get one run back in the second on a RBI single by Kawika Emsley-Pai and then tied the game in the fifth with a RBI single from Mel Rojas. In the bottom of the sixth, the Marauders touched up Brevard County starter Taylor Jungmann (7-5, 3.59) for four runs on five consecutive two-out singles. Jungmann departed with the 'Tees down 6-2 as Seth Harvey got the final out of the inning. The 2011 first round pick allowed a season-high 13 hits - all of them singles - in 5.2 innings of work. Jungmann yielded six runs (five earned), while walking one and fanning one. After Harvey allowed a run on a wild pitch in the seventh; Thomas Keeling entered the game in the eighth. Keeling allowed three runs, one on a solo homer to Gift Ngoepe and two on a two-out triple to Justin Howard. Offensively, the Manatees were able to total ten hits, including four doubles. But Brevard was unable to take advantage of their opportunities as they were 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Mike Walker was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Both Reggie Keen and Nick Shaw had two hits each, as Keen had two doubles and a RBI. Brevard County and Bradenton will continue their series on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. Brooks Hall (3-3, 4.04) will get the ball for the 'Tees. In his last six starts, Hall is 3-1 with a 3.22 ERA. The Marauders will send Matt Benedict (0-3, 8.27) to the hill. (No Excuses) Box Score Back to .500 and it kind of got out of hand towards the end. Taylor Jungmann got the start and was little more than a human pitching machine (13 singles, 17 outs) for Bradenton, nonetheless it was 2-2 until the 6th. Seth Harvey and Wild Thomas Keeling were about as successful as Jungmann. Big start for Brooks Hall tomorrow as he looks to put the brakes on this rough patch. At the plate, Reggie Keen (2-5 2 2B) is on fire with a Michael Bourne-ish .802 OPS over his last 10. Nick Shaw went 2-5 with a 2B and Mike Walker went 3-3 with a 2B HBP and SB. The struggling Brock Kjeldgaard got creamed by two pitches tonight. Game Log Harvey K'ed the highly regarded Dickerson to end the madness. Bradenton Bottom of the 6th Justin Howard lines out to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Kirk Singer called out on strikes. Kawika Emsley-Pai singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Carlos Mesa singles on a line drive to right fielder John Dishon. Kawika Emsley-Pai to 3rd. Dan Grovatt singles on a line drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Kawika Emsley-Pai scores. Carlos Mesa to 2nd. Gift Ngoepe singles on a ground ball to center fielder Reggie Keen. Carlos Mesa scores. Dan Grovatt to 3rd. Gift Ngoepe to 2nd on the throw. Mel Rojas singles on a ground ball to center fielder Reggie Keen. Dan Grovatt scores. Gift Ngoepe scores. Mel Rojas to 2nd on the throw. Pitcher Change: Seth Harvey replaces Taylor Jungmann. Alex Dickerson strikes out swinging. Gameday
  9. Helena 8 Idaho Falls (Royals) 7 Box Score Single tallies in each of the final 3 innings resulted in a comeback win for the H-Crew. The bottom two in the lineup were pretty punchless, but the top-7 hitters went 12-29 with 3 BB. The only XBH was a double by Tyrone Taylor (2-5 2B CS HBP). Adam Giacalone went 3-4. He has officially snapped out of a cold spell to start the season. Michael Reed, Alfredo Rodriguez and Raul Mondesi Jr. each had two knocks. I missed the call from Steve tonight but if someone can explain what the plan his with Manny Ruiz, I would really appreciate it. Tonight he was left in to record 2 outs. UWM alum Eric Semmelhack got the start and got hit hard. None of the 13 outs he recorded came via a strikeout. Ryan Gibbard got the win with 3 scoreless and Connor Whalen got the save. It is nice to have Connor at the back end of the pen. Idaho Falls starter Zeb Snead plunked 3 Brewers (Taylor, McFarland and Mondesi Jr.). No retaliation was enacted. Game Log
  10. Opportunistic Marauders Win Series Opener 07/11/2012 10:36 AM ET By Bradenton Marauders Bradenton, Fla.- The Bradenton Marauders (12-8) capitalized on late mistakes by the Brevard County Manatees (10-9) Wednesday night to secure a 5-2 win the first game of a four game series at McKechnie Field. Jason Townsend (W, 3-2) earned the win for the Marauders with two scoreless innings of relief. Bradenton opened the scoring in the first inning on a two-out double by Alex Dickerson. Gift Ngoepe, who reached on a single, stole his 16th base of the season immediately preceding the double by Dickerson. The lead did not last long for Bradenton. Parker Berberet connected on his first home run of the season with two outs in the second. The solo shot off Colton Cain tied the game at 1-1. Cain pitched six innings and did not factor in the decision. He struck out the side in the first, but did not have another strikeout on the night. In the sixth, Brock Kjeldgaard led off with a double for Brevard County. After moving to third on a groundout, Kjeldgaard scored on a sacrifice fly from Hector Gomez to put the Manatees in front. This time it was the Manatees with a short-lived advantage. With two down in the home half of the seventh consecutive singles by Carlos Paulino and Justin Howard put runners at the corners against Drew Gagnon. The Brevard County starter threw a low pitch to Carlos Mesa. When the pitch skipped into the glove of Berberet, Howard bolted for second. On the throw to second Paulino rushed home, narrowly beating the relay back from second to tie the score 2-2. Eric Marzec entered to strike out Andy Vasquez and end the inning after a walk to Mesa chased Gagnon. The Marauder put a runner at third with one out in the eighth on a triple by Dan Grovatt. Grovatt extended his hitting streak to 14 straight games. It is the longest streak active in the Florida State League. Marzec struck out Ngoepe on three pitches for the second out. Mel Rojas Jr. worked the count full and then hit a grounder that was mishandled by Cody Hawn at first, giving Bradenton the lead 3-2. Three straight hits by Dickerson, Paulino and Howard led to two more runs to close the scoring. Dickerson and Howard were each 2-4 with an RBI, while Paulino went 2-3 and plated a run as well. Doug Salinas pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save in as many tries. All of Salinas' saves have come in the second half of the season. The Marauders and Manatees play game two of their series on Thursday night at McKechnie Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
  11. Brevard opens road trip with 5-2 loss 07/11/2012 10:24 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees BRADENTON, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees opened up an eight-game road trip on the wrong foot as they fell 5-2 to the Bradenton Marauders on Wednesday night at McKechnie Field. The game was tied 2-2 after seven innings, but the Marauders scored three runs - all with two outs - in the bottom of the eighth inning off of Eric Marzec, en route to handing the 'Tees their third consecutive loss. Drew Gagnon (0-0, 2.41) got the start for Brevard (10-9 second half, 39-48 overall) and went 6.2 innings while allowed two runs. He scattered four hits, walked three and fanned three as he recorded his third quality start in as many outings with the Manatees. Gagnon and the 'Tees fell behind early as a two-out RBI double by Alex Dickerson in the bottom of the first gave Bradenton (12-8, 41-49) a 1-0 lead. Brevard would get that run back right away in the top of the second, thanks to a two-out solo homer by Parker Berberet. Marauders starter Colton Cain was able to hold the 'Tees in check for the next few innings, but Brevard broke through against the southpaw, to break the 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth. Brock Kjeldgaard led the frame off with a double to right field. He would move to third on a groundout by Cody Hawn and was driven in one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Hector Gomez. Gagnon was on cruise control as he retired 17 of the next 18 batters he faced from the second inning until the seventh inning with two outs. That's where he would run into trouble, as he allowed back-to-back singles to Carlos Paulino and Justin Howard to put runners on the corners. Then with Carlos Mesa at the plate, the Marauders were able to pull off a successful double steal as Howard stole second and Paulino stole home on the throw down by Berberet to second. Gagnon would go on to walk Mesa and would then be lifted for Marzec as the game was now tied at 2-2. Marzec was able to strikeout Andy Vasquez looking to end the inning. Jason Rogers led off the top of the eighth with a double to left, but the Manatees were unable to do anything with it as they proceeded to go down in order. Rogers was 3-for-4 on the night and is hitting .500 (12-for-24) on the road. He also has six multi-hit games in his first 19 contests with Brevard. With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Marzec allowed a triple to Dan Grovatt. After striking out Gift Ngoepe, Mel Rojas would reach on a bobbled ball by Cody Hawn at first as Grovatt scored to give the Marauders a 3-2 lead. Dickerson then singled to center to put runners on first and second. Paulino and Howard then hit back-to-back RBI singles to give Bradenton a 5-2 advantage. The inning ended with Paulino getting thrown out at third on a relay throw by Reggie Keen. Brevard had one last chance in the ninth as Mike Walker led off the inning with a walk; but Berberet grounded into a 5-4-3 double play and then Shea Vucinich flew out to second to end the game. The Manatees own the worst road record in the Florida State League as they are just 12-27 away from Space Coast Stadium. Brevard will look to snap its three-game skid on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., in the second game of their four-game set with Bradenton. Taylor Jungmann (7-4, 3.35) will get the ball for the Manatees as he looks to win his third consecutive decision. In his last six starts, which coincidentally started with a win over Bradenton, the 2011 first round pick is 6-0 with a 2.18 ERA. The Marauders will counter with Tyler Waldron (5-6, 5.40). Waldron is 1-3 with a 5.66 ERA in four second half starts. Box Score Very detailed game story tonight. Drew Gagnon deserved better. He has been lights out since moving up a level. Tonight he finished with 6.2 IP 4 H 2 R 2 ER 3 BB 3 K 90 pitches with 56 strikes. At the plate, Jason Rogers (3-4 2B) was fantastic and Parker Berberet (2-4 HR) crushed his first homer. The 22-year old catcher has been a steady force in the bottom of the BC lineup. Reggie Keen sole his 30th bag of the year. Game Log Gameday
  12. Brad, impressive looking site. I know you are not the self promotional type but any pics or blog links added to the link reports would only supplement the content here in a positive way.
  13. I mean, don't be sorry. What did you think of that list?
  14. Personally, that list makes no sense to me after the top-5.
  15. I agree with the Machado or bust from Baltimore. Basically, if you are Texas, I want Mike Olt. Machado from Baltimore. Segura+ from the Angels. And Tehran+ from Atlanta. If no one bites, so be it. I love picks personally. High picks are the most cost effective way to acquire premium talent. Now if only I had 100% faith in our scouts.
  16. Burgos works 86-91 with average secondary offerings that he commands very well helping them play up. I know he has a change and a slider along with at least one more pitch. The velo has been much closer to 90 this season and he does effectively vary the speed on it.
  17. Mondesi Sr. in stands for Brewers' loss By CURT SYNNESS Independent Record | Posted: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 12:05 am The last time Raul Mondesi, Sr., was in Montana, it was 1990, when he was a base-stealing phenom for the Pioneer League’s Great Falls Dodgers. Twenty-two years— 13 of which was spent in the major leagues — and about 40 pounds heavier (wot, relevence?), Mondesi was back in Big Sky Country on Monday, watching his son, Raul, Jr., play for the Helena Brewers. And although the game with the Missoula Osprey at Kindrick Legion Field didn’t turn out in favor of the home team, as the hosts took a 12-2 drubbing, the elder Mondesi was still smiling afterwards. “I’m just very happy that my son is starting out in the same place I did, Montana, although for a different team,” said the elder Mondesi, with a strong Spanish accent. “And he’s the same age I was, 19, and playing the same position I did back then, right field.” Mondesi played in the big leagues from 1993-2005, for seven different teams, starting with the Los Angeles Dodgers and ending with the Atlanta Braves. He was the 1994 NL Rookie of the Year, garnered two Gold Gloves, and finished with a career batting average of .273. Mondesi currently serves as the mayor of San Cristobol Province, Dominican Republican, where he flew in from on Monday. But back to the ball game. Helena took an early 2-0 lead after two innings, provided by doubles from Tyrone Taylor and Alfredo Rodriguez, Michael Reed reaching on an error, and an RBI single by Ruben Ozuna. A solo home run by Missoula’s Justin Bianco in the third stanza closed the gap to one, and then a three-run bomb in the fourth by Bianco put the visitors up 4-2. The Osprey continued to rack up the score, plating two runs in each of the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth frames. The Brewers, who were shut out after the second, were also outhit 15-5, and were unable to record a base hit in the final seven innings of the game. Bianco wound up with three hits and four RBIs, while teammate Pedro Ruiz was 4 for 5, just missing the cycle with two singles, a double and a triple. Chris Pack collected the win on the mound, and Michael Schaub was hung with the defeat. Four Brewers pitchers gave up six walks on the night. “Once we gave up that three-run homer, it was an uphill battle after that,” said Brewers coach Jeff Isom, whose team was denied its third straight win. “You can’t expect to walk guys and put zeroes up on the board, and by not hitting after the second, we didn’t give ourselves an opportunity offensively.” Next the Brewers will travel to Idaho Falls, to take on the Chukars, where three Mondesis will be in the park on Wednesday. “My other son, Raul Aldaberto, is only 16, and plays for Idaho Falls,” Raul, Sr. said. “He’s the youngest player in the (Pioneer) League.” So who will dad be rooting for? “Both…fifty-fifty,” he said with a proud grin. Photo Gallery Box Score Michael Schaub was pitching decent until some sort of evil southwest wind from hell started whipping directly in from RF. He had to be pulled once he started to walk in runners. None of the 3 relievers fared much better as Missoula kept tacking on 2-spots. At the plate, 2012 2nd rounder Tyrone Taylor made his debut and went 1-4 with a 2B. His 2nd and 3rd AB's both ended in line drives to the OF that were caught. Please just stay hot forever, Tyrone. Some pretty fantastic pitching from the Osprey tonight. Chris McFarland, in his 2nd AB, ripped an absolute moon shot foul ball homer. Straighten it out, son! Raul Mondesi Jr. almost nabbed OF assist number 7 on a very long throw to 3B, but the runner just beat it. Steve sounded surprised the play was even that close. Game Log

  19. Brevard drops series finale to Clearwater 07/09/2012 11:26 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/07/09/qVcZJLuj.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Andy Moye lost a decision for the first time in 2012 on Monday night, as Brevard County was defeated 8-4 by the Clearwater Threshers. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were doubled up by the Clearwater Threshers, 8-4 on Monday night at Space Coast Stadium in the finale of a three-game set. 'Tees starter Andy Moye (4-1, 4.67) was looking to improve to 5-0 with Brevard and 8-0 overall in 2012 but the long ball by Clearwater did him in. Moye allowed four runs on eight hits in five innings of work, while fanning seven. Three of those runs came on homers as Jim Murphy went deep for a two-run homer in the fourth and Harold Martinez led off the fifth with a solo shot. Moye departed the game with the Manatees (10-8 second half, 39-47 overall) down 4-3 but things got out of hand in the top of the seventh. After retiring the first batter of the inning, Greg Holle - who was in his second inning of work - allowed back-to-back singles to Carlos Alonso and Peter Lavin. Holle then walked Murphy to load the bases. Clearwater (11-8, 47-38) catcher Cameron Rupp then put the Threshers up big as he took Holle's 1-2 offering over center field fence for a grand slam as Clearwater took an 8-3 lead. A solo homer by Cody Hawn in the bottom of the ninth was his ninth of the season but it was too little, too late for the Manatees as they finished their six-game homestand with a 3-3 record. Reggie Keen was 3-for-3 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot for Brevard. Keen has had at least two hits in three of his last four games and is hitting .303 since the All-Star break. After a league-wide off day on Tuesday, the Manatees will hit the road for an eight-game road trip. Their first stop will be a four-game series with the Bradenton Marauders (11-8, 40-49) beginning on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Drew Gagnon (0-0, 2.25) will get his third start as a Manatee on Wednesday. Gagnon has had quality starts in his first two outings with Brevard. Bradenton will counter with southpaw Colton Cain (3-5, 4.31). Cain is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break. Box Score Andy Moye took his first loss of the season in this one. He pitched pretty good but some ill-timed homers did him in. The 7 K in 5 IP sure are nice. Greg Holle got the same rude treatment from the Clearwater hitters that Moye did. Casey Medlen managed to record 8 outs without allowing a run. Reggie Keen went 3-3 but was caught stealing for his 16th time. Jason Rogers doubled and Cody Hawn homered. Game Log Oopsies. Brevard County Bottom of the 2nd Hector Gomez reaches on fielding error by third baseman Harold Martinez. Shea Vucinich grounds into a force out, second baseman Albert Cartwright to shortstop Edgar Duran. Hector Gomez out at 2nd. Shea Vucinich to 1st. Joey Paciorek flies into double play, right fielder Miguel Alvarez to first baseman Jim Murphy. Shea Vucinich doubled off 1st. A sputtered rally. Brevard County Bottom of the 9th Cody Hawn homers (9) on a fly ball to left field. Brock Kjeldgaard doubles (1) on a line drive to right fielder Miguel Alvarez. Hector Gomez flies out to right fielder Miguel Alvarez. Shea Vucinich strikes out swinging. Joey Paciorek strikes out swinging.
  20. Tyrone Taylor leading off for Helena. And just another Burgos and Morris show tonight for Huntsville. Edit: Just another XBH for Taylor in his first AB. This time a double.

'Tees trounced by Threshers, 9-2 07/08/2012 9:29 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/07/08/fwO89OlI.jpg Manatees starting pitcher Brandon Williamson allowed four earned runs in four innings as Brevard County was defeated 9-2 by the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees fell behind 5-0 after two innings and never recovered as they were defeated 9-2 by the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday night at Space Coast Stadium. Brandon Williamson (1-6, 6.99) made his first start since June 28 and allowed five runs - four earned - in four innings of work. He yielded six hits and walked two, while striking out four. Williamson has not made it past the fourth inning in five of his ten starts with the Manatees (10-7 second half, 39-46 overall) and Brevard's streak of five straight quality starts by its pitching staff was snapped. All five runs that Williamson allowed to the Threshers (10-8, 46-38) came in the first two innings and was capped off by a two-run homer by Zach Collier with one out in the second. Brian Garman relieved Williamson in the fifth and threw three scoreless innings, while striking out four. Clearwater starter Brody Colvin held the 'Tees scoreless through six innings, but Brevard finally got on the board in the seventh. Colvin hit Brock Kjeldgaard with a pitch to lead-off the inning and then Hector Gomez singled to put runners on first and second. Mike Walker then grounded a ball right back to Colvin, who turned to throw the ball to second but it ended up in center as Kjeldgaard scored. Colvin was then lifted for Colton Murray who gave up a sacrifice fly to Parker Berberet that scored Hector Gomez to cut Clearwater's lead to 5-2. Eric Arnett relieved Garman in the eighth and ran into trouble immediately as he allowed a lead-off single to Anthony Hewitt and then a double to Cameron Rupp that plated Hewitt. After two strikeouts, Rupp came home on a double to left to make it a 7-2 game in favor of the Threshers. Clearwater padded their lead in the ninth with a two-run homer by Jim Murphy off of Arnett. Offensively for Brevard, Berberet was the only Manatee with a multi-hit effort as he was 2-for-3 and had Brevard County's lone RBI. In 11 games against the Threshers in 2012, the Manatees are hitting just .187. Brevard County and Clearwater will face off in the rubber match of their three-game set on Monday at 6:35 p.m. For the Manatees, Andy Moye (4-0, 4.35) will be looking to improve to 5-0. Moye has had a quality start in each of his last three outings. The Threshers will counter with Perci Garner (3-5, 4.86). Garner has been a road warrior for Clearwater this season as he is 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 11 road starts. Box Score That really got out of hand, and fast. Brandon Williamson never really gave the 'Tees a chance as he could not make it past the 2nd inning. Brian Garman was very good but Eric Arnett allowed the flood gates to open in the final few frames. Reggie Keen (1-3 BB) and Parker Berberet (2-3) has notable games. That is all, which is strange because last I checked, Jason Rogers was in this lineup. Game Log
  24. TC07 nailed many of them for me. A couple others you can bet will be in the discussion by the end if next season are the Cubs and the Astros. Cubs: Just this past month, the Cubs have added two top-10 draft talents in Jorge Soler and the unsigned Albert Almora. Plus they brought 1st round arm Duane Underwood into the fold. Last draft the stole Javier Baez from us at #9 (we were 12th), nabbed Prince Fielder comp Dan Vogelbach in the 2nd and 1st round arm Dillon Maples for 2M+. They traded Cashner for Anthony Rizzo in a move that made zero sense for the power starved Padres. You have two hitters in AAA with starter potential in Josh Vitters and Brett Jackson. Jae Hoon Ha just played in the futures game and there are a ton of other high ceiling dreamers throughout the system. I dream about a talent acquisition phlosophy like this one. Astros: I am very happy this franchise is moving to the AL. Jeff Luhnow is thought of as a bit of a visionary when it comes to talent acquisition in today's game. And the quicker than expected results are showing throughout the system. Jonathan Singleton has hit for power at every stop despite being very young. George Springer was the 1st rounder last year and of course stud Carlos Correia was the first overall pick in this years draft. Both look to have impact type bats. Because Correia signed for a couple million under slot, the Astros were able to draft Lance McCullers Jr and Rio Ruiz much lower than they deserved. Neither has signed yet, but both are expected to. If they can pen Hunter Virant in the 11th, the would make 4 first round worthy players in one draft. Just brilliant. Second round SS Nolan Fontana walked 5 times in his pro debut the other day. He is a major leaguer. Zack Greinke would likely give you a positive scouting report on 3rd rounder Brady Rogers. Throw in the surging Delino DeShields Jr. and a few smart deadline trades and Luhnow will have this team contending in no time. One last note: despite the moronic Rizzo trade, I like the Pads system a bit more than TC07. Joe Ross could be very good and they cleaned up with a ton of early picks in this years draft including 3 HS pitchers who I saw at some point in the 1st round mocks.
