The pitching has a chance to be good. I see some confidence in Joel Pierce's progression with this assignment. There likely will be some piggybacking going on on this staff. The hitters should be the consistent portion of this team. Why not send Tyler Roberts down there? Garfield is looking good at WI.

Right, yet you're the one who cited that he has struck out 8 times and that he doesn't have an extra base hit. So you're using sample size to argue against him moving aggressively and dismissing the numbers for moving him aggressively. He's obviously not a .400 hitter, but if the guy can at least hold his own in a big time pitchers park/league, and he continues to perform well, why drop him TWO levels? Because it was part of some plan? I'm sure the plan at one point was to have Thornburg be a reliever when they drafted him. Although at this point, it is kinda silly to argue what level he should go to. 7 BB, 8 K's in 8 games, hitting .400/.548...not a lot you can measure from that. I guess the only way you can truly evaluate if he should be up there(Wisconsin, not BC per say) is by trying to evaluate how he's looked. Has he just gotten some hits to fall in, is he squaring up, is he overmatched, but has a hyper-inflated BABIP? You can't really tell from so few games. All I know is the Brewers plan moves guys extremely slow at times and if he's playing at BC, he's working the counts, facing advanced pitchers and has a good idea of the strike zone and hitting the ball hard....why slow him down in rookie league? Look, not here but in the LR's, I have highlighted Reed's good and bad stats about equally. I am not trying to paint some doom and gloom picture nor am I trying to polish a turd. I am simply making the case that 9 games worth of data is irrelevant to us box score checkers. You nailed it when you suggested we need scouting reports. I messaged my FL contact to inquire on any possible Reed buzz, but I doubt anything will come of it. Until then, I could be convinced of an assignment to WI if Hopkins and Rogers get bumped, but I will continue to endorse at least a month long stay in Helena. Reed needs maximum AB's and that will not happen in the 8/9 spots in Florida. He should be hitting 2/3 and working on driving the ball with authority while keeping the K's down. I am drooling over a McFarland, Reed, Haniger top of the order in Helena, that is for sure.

Sounds Lose Homestand Opener To Storm Chasers, 4-2 06/14/2012 10:33 PM ET Nashville Sounds NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds fell to the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers, 4-2, in the opener of a four-game series on Thursday night at Greer Stadium. The loss was Nashville's (26-42) fourteenth two-run defeat of the season. Omaha starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo (5-1) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings of work. Louis Coleman converted his second save of the season. Outfielder Logan Schafer (0-for-4) and first baseman Sean Halton (0-for-3) each went hitless to end their respective nine-game hit streaks. Six other Sounds each accounted for the team's six hits. Omaha plated an unearned run in the top of the first inning off starter Seth McClung. Irving Falu reached on an infield throwing error, moved to third on a Johnny Giavotella double, and scored as Royals top prospect Wil Myers ground out to second base. The Storm Chasers added two more runs in the next inning for a 3-0 advantage, thanks to doubles from Max Ramirez and Falu. On the next pitch during the Giavotella at-bat, Derrick Robinson scored on a passed ball that got away from catcher Jason Jaramillo. Nashville trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the next frame after a walk by first baseman Sean Halton and hits from Jaramillo and outfielder Jordan Brown. Outfielder Corey Patterson then hit a deep ball to the wall for a sacrifice fly, scoring Halton from third. Third baseman Andy Gonzalez crushed a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Sounds within one run at 3-2. The homer was his fourth of the season. Brown nearly tied the game during the next at-bat by missing a solo homer by a couple of feet. Myers pushed the lead back to 4-2 with opposite-field solo homer that landed inside the right field foul pole. The homer was the prospect's 10th of the year. (Yeah, in like 27 AAA games.) After three early runs, McClung (1-8) calmed down to last seven innings but took the loss. The 31-year-old gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks. Reliever Robert Wooten threw two scoreless innings while fanning three to end the game for the Sounds. The Sounds and division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Friday night. Sounds right-hander Mark Rogers (2-4, 5.87) takes the mound against Omaha southpaw Everett Teaford (3-0, 1.64).

Box Score The 2nd BC game has been delayed shortly after the Manatees took the lead in the top of the 8th. Game sits at 2-1 Manatees. Reggie Keen has 3 hits in G2 giving him 5 in the last 2. He also stole his 22nd base. Michael Reed has a 1B in 3 trips. No one else has a hit besides those two guys. Omaha (Royals) 4 Nashville 2 Box Score Anemic offense in this one. Two thirds of the hitters had 1 hit and rest had 0. Caleb Gindl went 1-4. Andy Gonzalez hit a HR (4). Adding 7 walks to the 6 hits, the Sounds really should have put more than 2 on the board. Logan Schafer had the rare game where he did not reach base. Seth McClung pitched and finished with an unpleasant looking line. 7 IP 6 H 4 R 2 ER 4 BB 1 K 1 HR 11:6 GO:FO. It was a night of relief pitchers going multiple innings as Rob Wooten finished with 2 scoreless IP and 3 K. Wil Myers it an opposite field homer off of McClung. It is said he is pretty decent. Fact is, you could argue the Brewers have not had a hitting prospect of this caliber since Ryan Braun came through. That is one thick lineup the Royals are cooking. Too bad for them their young pitching is in disarray. Kyle Zimmer was drafted to specifically remedy that. Game Log Gameday

Eric Arnett came out first in this continued game from yesterday. He went on to pitch 3 innings, his longest on the season. His night: 3 IP 3 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 4 K HBP 4:1 GO:FO. Thomas Keeling was next and he pitched great. 2 IP 1 H 0 R 4 K WP. All-Star Casey Medlen finished it off with a scoreless inning. There were no XBH's for the 'Tees besides T.J. Reggie Keen had 2 hits in this one. More on him later. Lost in the Michael Reed hoopla is recently added from EST Joey Paciorek. He is hitting .367 since joining BC. Guys, it has been all of like 8 games. And I am not ignoring anything. I'll repeat, I love what he has done, but we need to stick to the plan. If he rakes at Helena, as I expect, bump him then.
-
I certainly love what he has done, but he still has not hit an XBH and he is striking out about once per game. Send him to Helena and let him rake.

The BC game was suspended in the 3rd inning with Brevard County winning 3-1. Andy Moye started an allowed a single hit and a single run in 3 IP. On offense, T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a HR (9) and walked in 2 PA. If the same draft rules applied in 2010 as they do in 2012, 44th rounder Mittelstaedt would not have been drafted. Fantastic find by the scouts. He is the most dynamic hitter in A+ for the Brewers. Michael Reed, the nickname-less one, went 0-1. Game Log

Redbirds Quiet Sounds, 2-0, On Tuesday Night In Memphis 06/12/2012 10:49 PM ET Nashville Sounds MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis starting pitcher Nick Additon struck out a career high 11 batters over seven scoreless innings as the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds shut out the Nashville Sounds, 2-0, on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park in the second game of a three-game series. Additon (3-6) allowed just four hits for the win and was followed by scoreless innings from Redbirds relievers Adam Reifer and Jess Todd. Stranding five while going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, Nashville (25-41) out-hit Memphis in the loss, but failed to produce a walk for the sixth time this season. Outfielder Logan Schafer had two hits to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. It was also his fifth multiple-hit contest in his last seven games. Memphis scored their first run in the home half of the third inning against Sounds starter Wily Peralta (1-8). After a one-out single to Cedric Hunter, Peralta walked the next two batters to load the bases before balking home the first run of the game. Nashville was held hitless until first baseman Sean Halton had an infield single in the top of the fifth to extend his hitting streak to a season-best nine games. The Redbirds plated their other run in the bottom of the sixth after loading the bases again. Peralta would allow a double sandwiched between two walks before Pete Kozma hit an RBI single to right field. Mark Hamilton scored on the base hit, but Jamie Romak would be thrown out at home by Jay Gibbons. In relief Peralta, right-hander Donovan Hand entered with the bases juices and induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to escape the jam Peralta dropped his career-high sixth consecutive decision after surrendering two runs on four hits while walking and striking out six. The 23-year-old threw 104 pitches (55 strikes), and his six walks matched a previous high set two starts ago on June 1 at Oklahoma City. Hand tossed 1 2/3 shutout innings in relief while stranding two inherited runners. Robert Wooten worked around a walk for a scoreless frame to end the game. The Sounds and cross-state rival Redbirds will play the finale of a three-game series at 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday morning at AutoZone Park. Nashville right-hander Claudio Vargas (1-0, 4.58) makes the start against Memphis righty Brandon Dickson (2-5, 3.14). Box Score Wily Peralta still is searching for answers. Cubs take opener from 'Tees 8-3 06/12/2012 10:27 PM ET By Tyler Murray Viera, FL - Another early offensive output powered the Daytona Cubs to their second-straight win, a 8-3 decision over the Brevard County Manatees in the series opener on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. The Cubs scored twice in the top of the second inning off RHP Brooks Hall (L, 1-3), thanks to an RBI single from DH Richard Jones and a run-scoring double by SS Arismendy Alcantara. The Manatees responded with two in the home half against RHP Eduardo Figueroa. 2B Shea Vucinich led off with a single, and DH Cody Hawn knocked Vucinich in with a triple. C Joey Paciorek capped the rally with an RBI groundout to tie the score at 2-2. Figueroa finished after tossing three innings of two-run, five-hit baseball with no walks and four strikeouts. Daytona took the lead for good with a bases-loaded groundout from Jones in the third, and padded the lead with a four-run fourth inning. C Chad Noble led off with a triple and scored on Alcantara's sacrifice fly. 2B Roni Torreyes then reached on an error, moved to third on LF Nelson Perez' single to right, and scored on 1B Greg Rohan's RBI single. With the one-out base knock, Rohan extended his league-leading RBI total to 55. CF Rubi Silva made it 6-2 with a sacrifice fly, and RF John Andreoli gave the Cubs a four-run cushion with a run-scoring single. Daytona added another run in the ninth on a lead-off homer from LF Nelson Perez. He reached base four times and finished 3-4 with a home run, two singles and two runs scored. Perez is now tied with Rohan for third in the league with 11 homers and is tied for third in the league with 42 RBIs. Hall allowed seven runs #four earned# on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts over four innings of work, and Daytona managed just two hits over the final five innings against LHP Philippe Valiquette, LHP Thomas Keeling, and RHP Eric Marzec. The Cubs bullpen pitched admirably in relief of Figueroa, as RHP Ryan Searle #W, 4-1# and knuckleballer RHP Joseph Zeller combined to pitch four scoreless innings to keep the Manatees at bay. LHP Jeff Lorick tossed the eighth and ninth, allowing one run on two hits. The Cubs and Manatees will square-off again on Wednesday at Space Coast Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35p.m.

Manatees drop third straight game 06/12/2012 10:39 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/images/2012/06/12/WOYMGfAL.jpg Brooks Hall (L) allowed seven runs - four earned - in four innings as the Manatees lost 8-3 to the Daytona Cubs on Monday night. Shea Vucinich ® was 3-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography) VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees dropped their third game in a row as they were defeated 8-3 by the Daytona Cubs on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Manatees (27-37) starting pitcher Brooks Hall (1-3, 4.89) went just four innings as he allowed seven runs - four earned - on ten hits. Hall ran into trouble in the fourth as he allowed four runs, as the Cubs (29-34) took a 7-2 lead. Hall started the fourth by allowing a lead-off triple to Chad Noble, who scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly. Ronald Torreyes then reached on an error by Mike Walker at first. Nelson Perez and Greg Rohan then had back-to-back singles as Rohan's scored Torreyes. Hall then threw a wild pitch to put runners on second and third with one out. After a sacrifice fly plated the third run of the inning, John Andreoli singled to left to give Daytona a 7-2 lead. Despite 11 hits, the Manatees didn't do much else offensively, as they struck out eight times, left ten men on base and went just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Shea Vucinich led the way at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Walker and Michael Reed both had two hits each. In his first seven games with the 'Tees, the 19-year-old Reed is hitting .400 (8-for-20) with five RBI and three runs scored. Brevard County will look to snap its three game skid as they host the Cubs again on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Andy Moye (2-0, 5.89) is slated to get the start on the mound for the Manatees. In his only other start against the Cubs back on May 31, Moye allowed six earned runs in five innings of work. Daytona will send Robert Whitenack (0-1, 5.68) to the hill. In his only other start against the Manatees back on May 29, Whitenack went just 4 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on ten hits.

Daytona (Cubs) 8 Brevard County 3 Box Score Brooks Hall had a rough of of it tonight. Besides this start and the one on May 21st, Hall has pitched pretty darn well. Shea Vucinich had a 3-hit day with a 2B combining with Michael Reed (2-3 BB SB (3)) and Mike Walker (2-5) as the only multi-hit hitters. Reed drew the only BB of the night for the 'Tees. I have never seen a more explosive swing than Harpers. It's like a mix of Ryan Braun's and Fred McGriff's swings. His bat must have incredible momentum when it impacts the ball. Baseball is in good hands between Harper, Trout and Giancarlo Stanton. ******* Speaking of Stanton, he really has taken his game to the next level in the first half of 2012. He is walking more than Ryan Braun while keeping his K's manageable. The power is of course still present, but accompanied by a .290-ish batting average. ******* Speaking of young players in general, I think we are in a truly special time period. These kids have never been better, I don't care what anyone says. Youngsters like Chapman, Strasburg, Bundy, Profar and Sano look to be right on par with Stanton, Harper and Trout. Just incredible. Edit: wanted to add Billy Hamilton to the list above. The kids are all right as they say. -
