  1. St. Louis/Florida is not helping matters, and we have 9 games left against the Cards, 6 of those being on the road. All the more reason to look to the Wild Card Standings for insurance potential.I was joking/being cocky with that comment. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif\ But really after the STL series we have the Pirates and Dodgers at home...then we visit the Mets and the Pirates, back home for the Cubs and Cards, and then to Houston again. It would take an absolutely epic collapse for this team to lose the lead.It wouldn't take a collapse for them to lose their lead. It would take the Cards playing very well. But if they win approx. 95 games, it would take an anomaly to keep them out of the playoffs. Currently, the team is on a 92-win pace. I think it projects to closer to 95 considering the schedule and changes in personnel.
  2. We're winning this division Bernman. St. Louis/Florida is not helping matters, and we have 9 games left against the Cards, 6 of those being on the road. All the more reason to look to the Wild Card Standings for insurance potential.
  3. Atlanta scored 1 in the 9th to beat the Mets. Could have tied them in the Wild Card with a Brewers' win and Braves' loss.
  4. Sure, he was better than he showed in the first half. He had a career .690 OPS coming into the season and he was hitting like .580 the first half of this year.
  5. Guy, blame the fans who are demanding retractions from those who said it was a mistake move. That's what is prompting bringing up the fact about his overall season. I am enjoying his current contributions.
  6. Why is it a good thing? Even after his hot streak, the OPS is sub-par for a major league shortstop. And his defense has been terrible. He's elevated himself from the worst starting shortstop in the league this season, to one of the worst. You're being short-sighted in the name of defending the front office (which does not define the franchise). It still has been a poor choice to employ him as the team's starting shortstop. I hope he stays hot, so it ended up working out fine for us, but he probably will not based on the six year sample. He wasn't as bad as he playing earlier in the season nor is he near as good as he's played since the all-star break.
  7. Good job by Greinke of throwing strikes after the walk but at the same time not making it easy on Martinez to cut the lead in half. By the way, I don't think Coshun knows what ironic means. Greinke is undefeated AT HOME and much worse away. That's closer to what you would expect.
  8. I do think he's even slower than that. He's more like Joey Meyer wearing Spanks.
  9. It's a good thing Lopez bunted Morgan to 2nd so he could score on that home run.
  10. Hey, no bunts! No bunting! We need more than a run here and there from the middle of our order today. Can't give away baserunners in front of them.
  11. It's not as bad as the opening day lineup which included Nieves, Kotsay, Gomez, and Betancourt. But it's pretty bad. McGehee has been vastly superior against righties and Hairston is better than Lopez, Counsell, and Kotsay. Hart should be playing if physically capable. Prince and Braun might have to carry the offense, while Greinke pitches like an ace.
  12. Bump Swept by the 5th place Cubs at home, but you're right, I'm pretty sure they aren't shaking in their boots at the prospect of playing 7 games home and road against the division-leading Brewers who they've gotten owned by the last few years, including this one.
  13. What are with all these players who transfer to St. Louis and suddenly get discernibly better? Why did their boppers like Pujols and Holliday go bald in their 20's and have bodies which closer resemble Greek mythical creatures? Why was LaRussa oblivious to the rampant cheating when he was Oakland's manager? Why did he hire one of the two most prominent cheaters, whose success was not technique and approach based as a result, as their hitting coach? These are questions which I'd also like to see answered.
  14. I'm pretty sure Greinke is showing that they are completely relevant. 5 straight quality starts, 6 ER and 40 K. The results (ERA/RA) are finally starting to reflect what the peripherals have been showing all year. That wouldn't disprove my point at all. Like I said, he should be judged based on whatever his ERA/RA is at the time. If after tonight he has a 4.40 ERA, that's indicative of what he's deserved to be. His high BABIP doesn't mean he's deserved closer to a ERA in the high 3's. This is the 7th straight season he has a BABIP above MLB average. That's a product of pounding the plate. If he can have a good ERA this season with that style, then great. But fact is he didn't get unlucky to do even better because of a high BABIP.
  15. WHOA? Is that you?WHOA, were you seriously comparing me to WOAH SOLVDD for making that statement? Hawkins came in only allowing 4 walks in 31 innings.
  16. We've gotten some breaks tonight. Lopez would have turned two had he not gotten turned around. I would have had Saito's awkward delivery ready for Pujols, but thankfully we escaped anyways.
  17. I want Hawkins over Saito here. He throws straighter and we can't afford to allow baserunners. Bring in Saito if you get into the middle of their order.
  18. Got a break. He beat that. See we do cheat at home. We pay the umpires.
  19. Or 3 run leads...I meant hold the opponent under 5 runs with 2 runs allowed this far into the game.... Point still stands.
  20. I feel like I've seen that much sweat come of HIS hat against the Brewers before. I think he's known for sweating profusely and in turn darkening his uniform.
  21. The middle of the order should at least be counted on to move runners over and in. I wouldn't have been averse to a bunt there because Carpenter is still tough and every extra run means a lot. But good job by the bottom of the order for a change. This starting staff and bullpen should be expected to hold a 5-run lead anyways. C'mon!
  22. Greinke is one of those pitchers who proves that BABIP and K/BB aren't relevant peripheral stats to judge every pitcher based on. He's should be judged based on ERA/RA, and that's it. He refuses to risk walking even dangerous hitters after he's down in counts. It would behoove him to nibble and pitch backwards. Then he wouldn't be so predictable, and allow good hitters to get their timing right, and hammer the baseball.
  23. At this point I don't think luck has anything to do with it. They have the chemistry down.
  24. 5 out of the last 6. Against Philly we managed to win 2 of 3 on the road, where we stink. They can be expected to win 1. Regardless of how tough the games were, the confidence hit they're going to take will spell the beginning of the end. Karstens ERA: 2.47 Career: 4.37 Maholm ERA: 3.16 Career: 4.31 Correia ERA: 4.24 Career: 4.52 Morton ERA: 4.04 Career: 5.39 McDonald ERA: 4.17 Career: 3.99 It was a matter of time.
  25. They get it in the form of comparative schedules, or at least the luck starts to even out. The Braves have played the least inter-division games of any NL East team, and in those games they are 21-18. The Brewers are 26-17 and most of their remaining games are inter-division. 10 games left with the Pirates. They are going to rip them apart, so hard. Also, the Brewers got gouged more in Inter-league because they had to play the Yankees and Red Sox on the road. There is no inter-league play the rest of the way. BTW, it would have been adjusted to a 3-game difference after today. If we don't get hammered head to head by the Cardinals, and St. Louis gets hot outside those games, we will probably still win the Wild Card.
