  1. Counsell is starting to resemble a serviceable bench player again. I love sac flies with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.
  2. Me thinks thou doth protest too much. *mimics the Ric Flair woo from your avatar* Our top relievers had not been very active lately. Hawkins, K-Rod, and Axford had each only pitched 2 innings the last 7 seven days. They could have used the work regardless of the score. Making this an even more comfortable finish is a bonus.
  3. Good job, Estrada. Got away with a couple shaky 0-2 pitches, but he hit his spot on the final batter to induce a weak groundball. That should be his last inning of the game. He's been a solid starter replacing one of the regular guys this year.
  4. Estrada was fortunate to get out of the 6th with no damage done. He shouldn't be allowed to pitch another inning. Hawkins-KRod-Axford = auto win. If we put more runs on the board in the finals innings we can settle for our weaker relievers.
  5. 2-run home run and then he squanders 2 implied runs (runners on third and less than 2 outs). I wonder how much pressure it has put on him this season always being tied to Betancourt in the order.
  6. Great piece of hitting by Prince. 1 more run this inning and the Pirates should mentally check out of this game.
  7. The Brewers have to tack a couple more on in the upcoming innings to kill the Pirates' spirit. 7 runs is a lofty goal, but you can't just set it early in a game, and allow a team to keep working towards it.
  8. Squandering a runner on third/bases loaded and nobody out, is a pet peeve of mine, as I'm sure it is a lot of Brewers' fans. It's undisciplined baseball and a lot of times leads to momentum swings because the opponent feels like they should have been in worse shape than they already were. It's only natural to get mad at the players who caused the failure. When it's 2 players who've been a liability over the course of a year, it's only natural to get especially frustrated with them, even if they had success previously in this particular game.
  9. I hate this friggin ballpark. Braun should have 2 home runs. Thankfully on the first one he was cashed in anyways, but the 2nd time we lose 2 runs as a result. And I still can't stand our #5 and 6 hitters. I know Casey has a home run, but how many implied run scoring opportunities does he waste for this team. If that inning comes back to haunt us it'll only add to the frustration.
  10. And expounding on your point, people should stop doubting him because of the stigma that he recently turned 26 and is still in the minors. He would have likely stayed in the bigs at 24 if it weren't for McGehee suddenly emerging at the position he was groomed and his lack of defense. In his only extended run back in '09 he posted a .760 OPS in 128 AB's. Those were good enough numbers to stick and continue to improve at the major league level. The fact he'll be 26-27 next season is actually a positive because he should be a more seasoned hitter than your ordinary rookie. We should get the nearly prime Gamel after he gets over early season jitters and adjustments. With Berkman you have to worry that he's another Cardinals' player who can't near duplicate the success he had there and you'll have to pay him a significant amount of our remaining payroll allotment which could be better allocated to extending pitchers, re-signing Hawk, and maybe even upgrading ss (Betancourt's buyout throws in a little bit of a wrench).
  11. Good enough result by Dillard w/ some aid from the umpire. Now Tim can come back out to finish the game tonight.
  12. Yes! Now I guess we can preserve our top relievers for game 2. Use Tim Dillard or Frankie De La Cruz for the final 2 innings of this game.
  13. That's the 25th man on the playoff roster. He has a little value to this team as a defender, baserunner, and gritty battler. Good enough job by Saito. Now that we got through the 7th using Saito I'd like to see Hawkins readying for the 8th, Axford in the 9th, and K-Rod preserved as the closer for game 2.
  14. I would like to see Hawkins, K-Rod, and Axford pitch the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Worry about next game's late inning situation when it comes.
  15. Hawkins is a machine. I hope they make an effort to re-sign him for the next couple of seasons. He's been so reliable since regaining health. Great series. I thought we'd probably win it but the sweep is a cherry on top.
  16. I tend to agree with you with one exception... This team has GREAT chemistry to it right nowand is winning... They have to be careful to not rock the boat too much! Getting Weeks back is a given (which will move McGehee and Yuni down the order) but don't expect much more than that... So you platoon Green and McGehee. It's far from an ideal platoon because McGehee has stunk up the joint against lefties, but the important thing is that Green would eat into half his AB's. That should keep McGehee and his teammates happy enough. If they're not, they're not very realistic or accountable. Roenicke/Melvin have given McGehee more than enough leeway. An order of: 1. Hart, 2. Morgan/Hairston, 3. Braun, 4. Fielder, 5. Weeks, 6. Green/McGehee, 7. Betancourt/Hairston, 8. Lucroy looks much more championship caliber.
  17. We might be the first team in major league history who will win 90+ games while having their #5 and 6 hitters hit under a .700 OPS.
  18. I'm not going to disagree about some of the bad approaches at the plate. However, this line of thinking has always bothered me. When people say, "If this then it would have been this..." it indicates that they believe that the next action would be exactly the same even though the situation would have been different. This is simply not the case. Each pitch is a new event in a new situation so you never know what the pitcher would have done if the count were different before that pitch. This argument is used all the time in sports for various situations and it just really bothers me... not trying to take it out on you specifically! You are taking it out on me specifically, but it's somewhat deserved. No, you're right, maybe he would have guided the ball over the plate on the next pitch or maybe he wouldn't have. I don't think that events are entirely independent though. If there have been a string of pitches where he's had control issues then it increases the likelihood it would have happened again. Regardless, you take all the way 2-0 in that situation, especially if you're Jonathan Lucroy.
  19. Angel Pagan always looks like Ted Williams against the Brewers.
  20. Lucroy swung at ball 3 instead of taking all the way. If he did the next pitch would have drawn a walk. Some of these hitters need to stop trying to be a hero, get on base if the pitcher is going to concede it, and trust their teammates. At least Hairston was able to bail out McGehee and Yuni B after another one of their terrible AB's though.
  21. Yuni B and McGehee are pathetic baseball players and they are our #5 and 6 hitters. Those spots need to be fixed by the return of Weeks and promotion of Green. Stop delaying on the latter.
  22. Not to be too nitpicky but we would have scored anyways. There were zero outs. Plus, I doubt that would have been a double play regardless.
