  1. Somebody should have informed the Mets that McGehee can't hit lefties even though he's a right-handed batter. He's been vastly superior against right-handers this year. Terrible move by their manager.
  2. Great move by Roenicke of luring the Mets into pinch hitting for their starter the bottom half of last inning. We're having much more comfortable AB's against non-knuckleballers. Also great AB by Morgan to begin the inning. He took 2 pitches after it ran to 3-0 and just fought pitches off until their reliever gave in. He looked like a lead off hitter.
  3. What a piece of crap umpire. They've been squeezing our pitchers throughout the series in NY. Big market bias?
  4. Every time their crowd gets excited late in a game they hit a no doubter home run. If their fans weren't so apathetic maybe they'd have a better home record. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. We need Gomez back for late innings. Opponent centerfielders are making running over the shoulder catches against us left and right whereas for us those are costly misplays by Morgan and Hairston.
  6. That would be mine as of this moment as well, but it would be fluid based on how Green, Gamel, and Peralta after being promoted.
  7. For God's sake, they were analogies, not 1:1 comparisons. I know that's a tough concept for some people. The point of listing the players I did was to show age, outside extremes, shouldn't be practically the sole cause for excluding a minor leaguer as a prospect. Fiers had his own circumstances preventing him being further along in his career at this point. He was 24 when he entered the system. Since signing he's moved up the ladder faster than most collegiate prospects. They weren't going to put him at the major league level immediately and tell him to sink or swim because he was 24. He had to conquer levels just like about every other minor leaguer. And he doesn't need to wind up being as impactful as any of the names I listed to be a prospect. As far as saying the Brewers have a good farm system, that never happened. I was simply defining what made a good farm system. It should be obvious, but apparently it wasn't if players could be left out of the equation because they don't fit rigid qualifications. For the record, I don't think the Brewers have a good farm system, or even an average one. However, the improvement in statuses of prospects like Green, Schafer, Peralta, Thornburg, and yes even Fiers, etc.; make it far from the worst as was originally claimed.
  8. Josh Hamilton was 26 when getting first called up. Was he not a prospect? Randy Johnson was 25 and had spent 4 years in the minors before getting called up. Was he not a prospect or a borderline one? Axford got called up at the same age as Fiers is right now and similarly started in the minors at 24. Did he not constitute a prospect in reality? The definition of a prospect is not, or should not, be so rigid so as to exclude players above certain ages. Everybody has different circumstances in their careers to cause them to reach the major leagues later or earlier than others. A prospect is anyone who, when looking at all the circumstances, projects to benefit a major league team in the future. If the collective projected impact of all of them combined is better than average then you have a good farm system.
  9. Hawkins got what should have been 4-5 outs there. The umpire was squeezing him and Betancore was slow to first on that infield single. Still, he got out of it without allowing a runner to reach second. What a beast he's been this year - 19 Holds, Zero Blown.
  10. Hawkins should get the nod as the 8th inning guy if K-Rod is not available. He does have 18 holds and zero blown leads on the season. Saito has been pretty good overall himself, but he's a far worse 7 and 2 in the same situations.
  11. The Brewers didn't finish 2 out of first in 2007 because of rookie Braun's 1.004 OPS and Gallardo's 3.67 ERA in 17 starts. Doug would need to look no further than one of his recent past Brewers' teams to see how top prospects could become immediate and immense assets in a playoff race. It's just a case of another short-sighted decision by Doug, unless the real reason is that Green is one of the PTBNL's, in which case he was being monumentally more myopic.
  12. Wooooooooo! I love this team and T-Plush especially. What a resilient bunch. When you own a team you always continue to believe and they continue to doubt themselves. Yet another sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  13. Yeah! I like Kotsay being up in this situation. Got to give the hook to Counsell though if it makes it that far.
  14. Yes. And Water is Wet. (No offense intended, just want to point out how frustrating it is when fans like us can see the obvious but somehow Roenicke & Melvin can't!) Only obvious to those who believe they know what is going on. He has our normal lineup except for Hart and Casey, who brewerfan has killed for the entire year. So with Weeks out, this is the lineup we are going to have with Hart getting a day. Problem is nobody is getting hits and some just feel the need to complain about something. Morton has been good. Whenever the Brewers get shutout the complaining starts. Even if we have all starters in there, somebody will come up with some stats to say someone else should be in there. It is tiring and funny how some believe they know how to manage better than RR or any other manager. It is tiring and funny that certain fans will defend their own front offices as the authority because they are paid for their services when other front offices who are also paid would do things differently.
  15. Against the Pirates it would be disappointing. Still not over yet I suppose.
  16. What a pathetic job of team management today by Roenicke and Melvin. Roenicke trotted out a bunch of punchless hitters just because they were lefties and Melvin never gave him the option of going with Green and/or Gamel instead.
  17. Lawrie was 2-4 with a grand slam tonight. He looks like a monster. I'm sure Melvin is following his performances given part of his reputation will be based on deals like that. The least he could do is see Lawrie's immediate benefit and apply the possibility to Taylor Green. He wouldn't have to be near as good as Lawrie to be of benefit. Lawrie is sporting an 1.167 OPS. If Green could give us a .750 he'd be help in a platoon. I understand to not tinker with what's working overall, but McGehee is still not working individually. He was 0-3 today and his OPS is back down to .628. Green was 2-4 with a BB, HBP, and his OPS is now over 1.000.
  18. Now the expectation is to sweep. We have a chance to bury these cockroaches.
  19. But wouldn't that prove hypocritical given their philosophy on Gamel and Green? What little De La Cruz has done in the majors was negative. Gamel at least average #'s in a decent sized sample back in '09. Piggybacking Estrada and Dillard would be more consistent with prior statements and the safer choice, probably. Do we really feel comfortable turning the ball over to a career minor league who hasn't even set the world on fire in AAA for 3 starts while in a division race?
  20. Nashville puts up a 10-spot, and after previously being down 7-0, they are now up 10-7. Nashville Top of the 7th Pitcher Change: Esmerling Vasquez replaces Zach Kroenke, batting 9th. Logan Schafer walks. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Andy Gonzalez replaces Eric Farris. Andy Gonzalez pops out to pitcher Esmerling Vasquez. Taylor Green hit by pitch. Logan Schafer to 2nd. With Erick Almonte batting, wild pitch by Esmerling Vasquez, Logan Schafer to 3rd. Taylor Green to 2nd. Erick Almonte doubles (12) on a ground ball to left fielder Evan Frey. Logan Schafer scores. Taylor Green scores. Edwin Maysonet walks. Pitcher Change: Kam Mickolio replaces Esmerling Vasquez, batting 7th. Defensive Substitution: Lucas May replaces pitcher Esmerling Vasquez, batting 9th, playing catcher. Martin Maldonado walks. Erick Almonte to 3rd. Edwin Maysonet to 2nd. Caleb Gindl doubles (18) on a fly ball to left fielder Evan Frey. Erick Almonte scores. Edwin Maysonet scores. Martin Maldonado to 3rd. Brandon Boggs doubles (14) on a line drive to center fielder Ryan Langerhans. Martin Maldonado scores. Caleb Gindl scores. Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Mat Gamel replaces Daniel Ray Herrera. Mat Gamel singles on a line drive to right fielder Cole Gillespie. Brandon Boggs to 3rd. Logan Schafer doubles (8) on a line drive to right fielder Cole Gillespie. Brandon Boggs scores. Mat Gamel to 3rd. Pitcher Change: Jeff Bennett replaces Kam Mickolio, batting 7th. Andy Gonzalez pops out to first baseman Juan Miranda in foul territory. Jeff Bennett intentionally walks Taylor Green. Erick Almonte doubles (13) on a fly ball to right fielder Cole Gillespie. Mat Gamel scores. Logan Schafer scores. Taylor Green scores. Edwin Maysonet lines out to left fielder Evan Frey.
  21. So he'll take Dillard's job of warming up the bullpen catcher on a major league salary, Dillard's role will expand, and Estrada receives the next few starts. I would have preferred Fiers or Peralta, but the timing isn't right for the former and they wouldn't trust the latter when he'd be promoted from AA. Estrada was adequate the first time around though, so I expect more of the same.
  22. Except where would Lawrie play? Someone else would have to get the boot.Well, every single one of those players might not have panned out, so it could have worked itself out. Or they could have made a deal with a team like themselves who had a glut of prospects at one position.
  23. Some people might perceive Braun and Morgan as douches if they were on an opposing team. Lawrie just seems like a cocky guy on the field with a carefree attitude off it. As far as I know he hasn't done harm to anybody (to compare him to Sheffield is ridiculous). So I'd love to still have him in Milwaukee and wish him good luck in Toronto. Just not too good of luck, otherwise we'll regret that deal down the line. Had neither pitching trade been made, the Brewers could have had a pretty awesome lineup in a couple years between the likes of Braun, Weeks, Lawrie, Green, Gamel, Cain, Hart, Lucroy, Morgan, etc. The only hole would have been shortstop. And then they would have some money to spend on that position and pitching from the Prince departure and the fact that many of the aforementioned players would have been under our control for years at lower wages. We exchanged the potential of a year or two of success for even more later. So not only making the playoffs, but making a couple of runs, is vital to justify moves. Parlaying having Greinke and Marcum under contract into an extension for one wouldn't hurt either.
  24. 1-2 going into the series 2-1 if we win the opener
