  1. I don't know if I'd say ever, but I agree to the extent that he's frustrating. However, thankfully he was able to overcome adversity that inning. Also, what has happened to the guy at the plate this season. He was hitting .071/.142, prior to the first inning strikeout. His career hitting stats before this season were around .225/.625. That was a big reason he had a long winning streak with a barely above average ERA during that period last season.
  2. If you have a short term memory problem and Matt Gamel tells you, "eventually I'll be a solid 3rd baseman defensively", make sure to immediately write on the back of his baseball card....don't believe his lies. For short and long term benefit, the Brewers need to start transitioning him to the outfield ASAP. At 3B, hitting-wise Hall has been solid this season and is responding well to not being jerked around, platooned, or playing out of position. Don't mess with what's working on that front. In the field, he's far superior to Gamel. Down the road, Taylor Green has been promising at the plate and is a considerably better defender than Gamel also. In the OF, Hart has been a mediocre hitter for a corner outfielder the last season plus and Gamel's occasional AB's there would be welcome in the interim. Even if Gamel's as bad in right as at 3rd, he won't see nearly as non-routine plays there. After the season, we lose Mike Cameron. And down the road, the only bona fide starting outfield prospect in the system is Lorenzo Cain. Move him to the outfield already.
  3. Sorry if this was posted already, but here is video of Taylor Green's home run from last night:
  4. We got lucky twice. First on the hit by Gload barely going foul and then Looper subsequently got away with a couple more meatballs. Especially the pitch middle in which resulted in a strikeout. Macha probably should have went to Stetter once Gload was announced....maybe as soon as Amezega was up to bat. And he probably also should realize that replay results in justice so he should start endorsing it in all sports.
  5. Same sentiments. Can't be too disappointed, but JJ has had quite a few at bats this year in key situations where he's caught looking at 2nd and 3rd strikes. It's as if he's changed personalities with Weeks.
  6. Off the bat I thought that ball was ticketed for the deep corner. But I forgot it was Craig Counsell. So it doesn't even make it to the rightfielder. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. As is Corey not making solid contact with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs. Shades of the Chicago game on Sunday. Macha has to start thinking of the occasional safety squeeze (a guy like Hart could reach base off it) in these games to ensure the run, even this early in the game. Because we've seen how it can come back to bite you if you don't.
  8. Or Counsell with nobody on, 2 out, and down by 1; when your most realistic shot at staying alive in that situation is hitting a home run. Cordero has owned us since leaving Milwaukee. I feel like the game is over when we go into the 8th trailing by even the slimmest margins against the Reds.
  9. Instant Replay http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif On another note, after he struck out against Janish yesterday, I had a sense that JJ would fall right back into his slump, after it looked like he was turning it around for one of his patented hot streaks. Inner thoughts by J.J. Hardy: "if I can't win the match-up against a position player.....how am I going to do so against opposing pitchers" New found confidence dashed.
  10. That's your knockout blow I bet that was the most joyful part about it for you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. I doubt we use Hoffman for a 3rd straight game. Thankfully, I think we can get away with Coffey in the 8th and then Villa in the 9th. I'd match-up Coffey with the tougher part of the order because he's got the stuff to pitch from behind and even in counts. Villa's got to get ahead of you, otherwise he's in big danger. And you can't always count on getting ahead. Better to have to work from behind at times against the bottom of their order and Slappy Morgan.
  12. It was only a matter of time for JJ. Nobody gets colder, or hotter, than that guy. I can't believe some people wanted us to consider other options for a while. Giving him a 1-2 day mental sabbatical would be as extreme as I'd go. Otherwise you'd miss the hot streak. I love the discipline our hitters were employing....it's difficult sometimes to not be over-aggressive when you can do major damage with one swing.
  13. You forgot that human error is also part of baseball tradition and it shant not be sullied.
  14. He knows all his family at home is watching. And he's probably motivated by being bypassed by his hometown team. How dare we take Gallardo over him. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Agree, but even though the ball was blurry on the replay, I eventually saw proof that it was in the glove before the runner reached base. I'd venture to guess nobody has been screwed by the umpires more than the Crew this season. Our games have been prime examples of why instant replay needs to be more prevalent in MLB.
  16. I still don't have a good feeling about this at all. The D-Backs know they could be in an even bigger hole so they should be feeling good about themselves. Just like when they picked off Rickie Weeks at home, luckily, and then responded with a 3-home run inning.
  17. The Diamondbacks have to be the luckiest franchise in the Major Leagues. 2 years ago they were 18 games over .500 and went to the playoffs in spite of scoring 20 less runs than their opponents. That's ridiculous. Now look at the plethora of lucky breaks they've been the recipient of in this series. My God, Tom Gordon almost throws the ball in the stands and they are rewarded since it bounces directly to the catcher in time to record the out at home. And we all know what happened on Friday. The Brewers should have at least won 3 of 4 games in this match-up.
  18. There was visual proof a couple times in the Cubs series. We lost one or two of the games in that series directly from an umpire mistake, like when the umpire called a Cub safe at first on what should have been a double play. And the same thing occurred in Philly on what should have been the last out of the game. Fortunately we ended up prevailing. But the umpires overall this season have been horrible in the favor of our opponents. Should be about 14-8 in all fairness. Human error should be taken out of the game as much as possible, not remain to protect traditions that have angered fans and cheated teams over the years when they've occurred. I don't see what would be so difficult of having 2 challenges like in football, with a 3rd dependent upon the success of the 1st two. Only a small minority resent instant replay in the NFL, and the rest of the sane people appreciate that it's made outcomes more just. Isn't that's what sport is about.....determining who is the most meritorious between the lines?
  19. Yo at this juncture has won 2 games this season because of his bat. If Sheets was still around, at this point, he would have lost at least 1 game with his bat. He was in part the reason for his lack of run support which people used to argue he was being undervalued as a result. The difference in runs scored between the AL and NL the last the 3 seasons has been about .283. With how abysmal Sheets was with the stick, we're talking closer to .4 or .5 with him in the lineup. Whereas, if you throw out Yo's injury marred season when they didn't allow him to hit lest risk injury, he's equated to an above average 9th hitter in the AL. So I figure, as long as Gallardo's ERA finishes below 3.6 this season, he'll probably have been a more valuable player to this ballclub than Sheets was with his 3.09 ERA last season. And his career ERA coming into this season I believe was 3.30, so it projects to be significantly better than that. The difference between Sheets and Gallardo as a front line starter is psychological. And if that's the only noticable difference between this and last season's team, if we were good enough at the deadline to justify bolstering the pitching staff for a playoff run then, we should be in the same position come this July-August.
  20. On defense, Weeks has made quite a few plays which won't count against his zone rating or error total, but have hurt the team nonetheless. Improved defender, but still a butcher relative to other 2nd basemen.
  21. Manny's a headcase. If he could stay poised in the face of a little adversity, he'd be the legit #2 or 3 pitcher so many expect him to be.
  22. Jeremy Jeffress Mark Rogers Brett Lawrie Nick Green Jonathan Lucroy
  23. "If luck weren't involved, I'd win every one. But it's just that big of a part of the game." Wisconsin native Phil Hellmuth
