  1. That's preposterous. The Mets blew a 7-game lead with 17 games left last season, what's 3.5 games with 30 left? It's an extremely surmountable lead, and we're going to have to fend off two teams. The Brewers themselves gave up an 8 game last year in about a month and a half two months. We caught the Cubs from 8.5 games behind within a month this season. All it takes is one of the Cards, Mets/Phillies to get hot and we could be on the outside looking in. Especially the Phillies at our expense when we have a 4-gamer in Philadelphia in September. The WC race is far from over.
  2. Why the heck would you be "concerned" about not winning the division? Doing so would be a bonus. We haven't been to the postseason in 26 years and we're being picky about how we get there?
  3. How was that a hit by Lopez? We must have had two players positioned on each line.
  4. We're trying to save the Cardinals season....got to show a little more killer instinct. Looks like Carlos' Villanueva's fist pump undeservedly fired them up.
  5. It seems to me as though the Cardinals think it's their birth right to be on top, and took for granted being able to treat the lowly Brewers like a punching bag, and now we've changed places they can't help but blame us for their demise.
  6. Actually, we can have no less than a 4 game lead.

  8. Ben Sheets stepped up as requested - Big Ups.
  9. Our Pythagorean win total must have gone up about 4 games tonight.
  10. Very poor AB by Corey Hart that last inning. It took a ball hit the other way along the ground to move Prince to third, and he would have scored on one of the two subsequent batters surely. Instead Corey's trying to pull balls off the outside corner. Picky, I know, but it's those mental errors that are harder to accept.
  11. "we don't like those guys" Pose on it Braun!
  12. One reason Ben Sheets has always gotten a lack of run support is because he has Ben Sheets in the lineup.
  13. Damn, this ballpark is playing like Wrigley on a blustery day in April. Benny, all we need you to do is pitch 4 more innings and not allow more than 2 runs. Not too much to ask at this point, IMO.
  14. I dug that at bat by Prince. He purposely tried and succeeded at pulling a ball on the outside corner because that's the only way he scores the run with a hit along the ground. His power #'s may be a bit down but his situational hitting this season has been excellent.
  15. One thing I think Sabremetricians and Scouts can unify on is that Craig Counsell sucks at the plate. How can you keep that potent bat out of the lineup on a consistent basis, Yost. Got to love having Counsell, Kendall, and Sheets at the bottom of the lineup. Clearly well thought out by Yost. If Sheets doesn't get the proper run support we can see why. The bottom of the order, including his own waste of an at bat.
  16. Albert Pujols has always owned him for one. The machismo has gotten the best of him trying to challenge he and the rest of the middle of the Cards' order. I recall a game in Milwaukee where Sheets to start a game pitched nothing but fastballs, and fastballs for strikes, for a long string of pitches. Both Pujols and Edmonds jacked balls out of the park back to back. If they know what pitch is coming and the general area it will be located, pitchers give away their edge. Sometimes players in any sport get amped up and the intensity actually works against them because they're reckless and shut down mentally. Others can channel it into "controlled aggression" which heightens focus and improves performance as a result. It's up to Ben which player he is tonight. Be ordinary and he should get criticized - he doesn't have ordinary stuff. Be great and get lauded - not every player who has good stuff is capable of parlaying it into success on the mound, for which players should get credit. The beauty of sports, events play out on fields and courts before our very eyes, and the meritorious will be praised accordingly by the impartial and knowledgeable.
  17. HUGE, BREWERS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. How many times does Craig hit those promising looking nubbers and then barely get thrown out. If you don't have any power whatsoever you have to sprinkle in some infield singles every once in a while.
  19. G. Mota might have a say about that!!!!!!!I had the reverse mojo on my mind when I posted that. I'll gladly take an in your face. I'm a Brewer fan.
  20. We're cooked. This is what happens when you strand two bases loaded less than 2 outs yourself. HUGE LOSS considering we were leading going into the 9th and today's developments.
  21. The Pirates lead the league in players with out of style, prison quality, barbed wire, arm tattoos.
  22. I don't ever think it's a good idea to put your second catcher in unless it's an emergency. Why, because that's convention? You play whoever gives you a better shot to win in sudden death. Even if the game continues beyond that point the chances Rivera gets injured are minimal. He's caught 18 games without getting injured to my knowledge. And he wouldn't even have to catch near a complete game, just a few innings. In the minuscule chance he gets injured go with a replacement catcher.
  23. Pirates are lucky hit machines today
