  1. My last car died around 200,500 miles. Keep the faith. I took a Pontiac to 225K and sold it. Saw it in somebody's driveway six months later.
  2. Can you please provide evidence of this? Everything I read says that teams have to be under the cap at 3pm on March 16th and all transactions (trades, restructurings, taggings, etc.) are processed and effective at the same time (3pm March 16th) to assess the cap space.
  3. Yes, you are missing something. All transactions (trades, restructures, etc.) are effective 3pm on the first day of the league year (which was March 17th last year) and go into creating the cap room that's needed at that day/time. You're misunderstanding "after the start of the league year" to mean "after 3pm on the first day of the league year". It all happens at the same time - 3pm. The article on Brockers literally says he was traded to hep get under the cap. Here's an article on Malcom Brown saying the same thing.
  4. The first sentence of the article says so. Do a Google search and look at the dates of the articles about the trade.
  5. That's exactly what happened with Brockers and Brown. Remember the consternation here when Brockers was traded for a 7th round pick, and people complained about not making space for him? Brown was traded for a 7th as well. Remember, in the NFL because of the cap and pulling forward signing bonus allocations when traded, trades for big players rarely happen. It affects both the team receiving and the team trading the player. I'm pretty sure that if teams could trade a player for anything instead of cutting him they would. The Brockers trade details
  6. The draft signings will have to make the team first in order to count against the cap. If/when they do make the team, they push out someone else whose contract will no longer count against the cap. The actual effective cap space needed is the rookie bonus pool minus ($705k x # of draft picks). The Packers effective rookie cap space is a little over $3.3M including the two comp picks. Once a team gets under the cap effective 3/17, they can go over the cap as long as they are under by the first game of the season.
  7. They absolutely can trade to clear cap space. The Rams traded Michael Brockers and the Saints traded Malcom Brown last year effective 3/17 to clear space to get under the cap. This article is talking about how the Saints may have to trade players to get under the cap.

  9. Correct. Yokozuna was the easy one, thought the other two would be the hard ones.
  10. Exactly. They may lose a few, but if they can get Bakh and Jenkins back at even 90% they'll be just as good. Hell, if they had a healthy Bakh and Jenkins this year they're still playing.
  11. It honestly made no sense in pretty much every aspect there is. I can honestly not think of one good reason Wisconsin would be a better pick over USC or dozens of other schools. They may have gotten off to a rough start last year, but UW's OL is way better than USC's. Not getting hurt is one good reason to pick UW. (After a full year in the program, the young 4/5 star OL may be ready to step in. Remember, even Joe Thomas didn't start as a freshman - he was a blocking TE.) It's also been reported that if Williams chooses UW, one or two WR in the portal are going to join him.
  12. Assuming the trade is processed first (or all transactions are processed at the same time): 1) Trade Rodgers - clears $19.7M 2) Release Z. Smith - clears $15.3M 3) Release R. Cobb - clears $6.8M That's $41.8M right there. From there they can: 1) Guarantee Bakh's $10M roster bonus (clears $6.7M) 2) Guarantee Clark's $6.9M roster bonus (clears $4.6M) 3) Extend P. Smith two years and guarantee his 2022 salary and roster bonus (clears up to $7.7M) 4) Extend Lowry two years and guarantee his 2022 salary and roster bonus (clears up to $3.3M) There's another $22.3M.
  13. I'm not following you. Rodgers can be traded at any time, they don't have to wait until the start of the league year. If he's traded before 6/1 it will save ~$20M from the Packers 2022 cap.
  14. What about a 3-team? Franchise Adams GB sends Rodgers + Adams to Denver. Denver sends 1st & Jeudy to GB and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to Seattle GB sends Jordan Love to Seattle Seattle sends Russell Wilson + 1st to GB. Denver gets Rodgers, Adams Seattle gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Love GB gets Wilson + Jeudy + two 1sts (Wilson would need to be extended to fit under the cap) Who says no?
  15. All it says about Love is that right now he isn't as good as Rodgers, and right now that's about nobody. I have no evidence to support this, but I believe that when they drafted Love the plan was for him to sit for three years and learn just like Rodgers did and ride a 3-year window with Rodgers. 2022 will be year three. What happens after 2022 will tell more about what they think of Love.
  16. Why is it called "sales tax" if the buyer pays it? Isn't that really a "buying tax"? Shouldn't the seller pay "sales tax"?
  17. Not really true with Clemens - his years with NYY (age 36-40), when he supposedly was using PEDs, were the worst of his career. He had two resurgent years in Houston at age 41 and 42, but that's not unheard of for a pitcher; Nolan Ryan led the league in strikeouts ages 40-43, Warren Spahn was good into his early 40's, Randy Johnson led the league in K's at 40, etc.. Clemens after age 35 was good, but not the pitcher he was ages 24-35.
  18. While we're on the Rumble, three past winners of the Rumble are no longer alive. Without looking, name them.
  19. The first five years of the Rumble weren't that way. My point still stands with what happened yesterday - predictability is the enemy of engagement.
  20. The Rumble could be the best PPV of the year by far, but they ruined it years ago by guaranteeing the winner a shot at a championship title at Wrestlemania which eliminates all but about 4-5 entrants. There's an old saying in marketing that "predictability is the enemy of engagement", and when you know that 25 of the 30 entrants have no chance that increases the predictability. Can't really do anything about the leaks, that's the media doing their job. If you want to make money, bet on the favorite the morning of the event. I think one of the best ones was in the late 90's when the tide was starting to turn from WCW to WWE and they grabbed a couple of guys who were just released from WCW the week leading up to the Rumble. They didn't even have entrance music for the WCW guys.
  21. If Adams goes to Denver, they'll still have Courtland Sutton, KJ Hamler, and Tim Patrick, they can part w/Jeudy. Patrick isn't a household name but has developed into a quality starter and fits GB's mold of big WRs. That, or it would have to be a 3-team with Denver parting with Surtain for pieces to send to GB. Surtain wouldn't do GB much good with Jaire and Stokes in the fold.
  22. Unless the guy you want is coaching on a team still playing football this weekend. Considering his Rams ties, wouldn't be shocked if he'd go to that well. That, and how much time have they had to evaluate other options and identify a few guys to target?
  23. Clemens never failed a test, his name was not on the affidavit for the Grimsley search warrant, and was acquitted of all charges of lying to Congress. And pretty much everyone who has accused Clemens of doing PEDs is a questionable character at best - every mention of Clemens in the Mitchell report was from McNamee. Don't get me wrong, Clemens is a prick, but he hasn't failed a test nor has he been found guilty of lying.
  24. If he was going to USC, why wouldn't he have committed already? His family has literally said, "NFL not NIL" so why would "bidding" have anything to do with it? Also, there's a rumor floating around that he's a big Russell Wilson fan and that Wilson called and spoke with him about Wisconsin.
  25. What's stale is everything I sat through in the 80's and early '90s and having the team continually churn out losing seasons followed by blowing top-10 first round draft picks on Bruce Clark, Rich Campbell, Alphonso Carreker (technically #12), Mossy Cade (technically traded the 14th pick for him), Brent Fullwood, Tony Mandarich, and Terrell Buckley, while passing on future Hall-of-Famer after Hall-of-Famer. Living in non-Packers land, there is still quite a bit of enjoyment in having them go 15-3 against division rivals. The locals cannot talk crap to me about the Packers because their team continually gets owned. Maybe being a Packers fan outside of WI is a lot better than being one inside WI. I'm very hesitant about a full-scale rebuild because of the nature of free agency after 4-5 years in the NFL (and the 5th year is essentially a free agent contract value). I think the Packers can do it better than most because of their avoidance of players with character concerns, but I think some underestimate how difficult it will be to get free agents to come to GB when there is no HOF QB on that team.
