Watching ESPN this morning and they posted a poll asking what is the most iconic American sports venue. The choices are: Augusta National Cameron Indoor Stadium Churchill Downs Fenway Park Lambeau Field Madison Square Garden Rose Bowl Wrigley Field IMO, the first two should not be on the list. Cameron Indoor was nothing until around 1990, and Augusta shouldn't be on there because of bigotry until around 1990 (and beyond). For me, it's an easy choice - Madison Square Garden because of the variety of major events that it has hosted. NBA finals, Stanley Cup finals, epic boxing matches, NCAA tournament games, Wrestlemanias. It's outdated now and has been for a while, the venue itself is nothing special and boxing is no longer what it was, but you add the variety and magnitude of events it has hosted with the prestige of New York city and it's #1. I'd put Lambeau at #2. Fenway and Wrigley are in the conversation, but when the teams that play there go 100 years without a championship it doesn't really carry as much weight as winning 13 world championships. Lambeau has never and will never host a Super Bowl, but it's not a one-trick pony like Churchill Downs or the Rose Bowl where it's relevant one day a year.

No, no it wasn't. That's a play where the ball has to be thrown before the WR makes his break. The job of the WR is to either turn the DB to the outside or drive him back so that the WR can make a sharp cut to the inside and the DB can't cut the route. Pryor didn't do that - he didn't turn the DB to the outside or drive him deep and rounded his route which allowed the DB to jump the route. The pass could have been a little more to the inside, but it wasn't a "horrible" pass by any stretch because he has to throw it before the WR makes his break. To be fair to Pryor, I don't think he was 100% at that point and ended up leaving the game; he might not have been able at that point to effectively run the route. But that play is more on Pryor than on Mertz.

It is so on-brand for 2021 to take Betty White from us on the last day of the year. -
At the start of the game they were without one starting WR, their starting RT and C, three of their top four RBs, and every TE except their #1 and #4/5 TE. By the middle of the 2nd half they were without their other starting WR and their starting TE. If the few skill position players you have healthy are playing every down, they are going to get tired. Not really sure how much offense you can expect when you're without both of your starting WRs, all but your #4/#5 TE, and 3 of your top 4 RBs.

Once again, the officials seem to have a poor understanding of where and how to spot the ball when the QB just ran with it against ASU.

Rodgers made some comments relating to his future and the Packers during his weekly press conference. - "not ruling out retirement" but loves playing the game - "enjoyed the process of growing and building a stronger relationship with general manager Brian Gutekunst and appreciates everything the team has done to make real changes this year, including giving him insight on moves that directly affect his job" - "loves playing for Matt LaFleur and the rest of the Packers coaching staff" - On deciding about retirement/coming back, he "won’t drag out the process" and "expects it to be a quick one" I interpret that as he'll use retirement as leverage to get a few things he wants but will ultimately be back next year. Hopefully Rodgers is keen to their salary cap situation and understands they will have to cut some people and can't just restructure everyone. Good to hear that it will be a quick decision, so they can structure his contract accordingly and move on quickly to getting Adams back.

Had a Lozza Mozza pizza last week. It was on sale for $6.99 so I thought I'd give it a shot. Thought it was OK but nothing special. The sauce was good, could hardly taste the pepperoni, and the crust tasted like cardboard with a dusting of flour. Plenty of cheese, but I find mozzarella to be kind of bland. I'd rather have a Jacks and put half of a package of shredded gourmet cheddar cheese on it. If you haven't put mixed cheddar cheese on a pizza, it really adds flavor to it. $2-$2.50 for a package of Roundy's brand mixed sharp cheddar, so it only adds $1 or so to the cost of a Jacks. I did get a few Poco's pizzas for Christmas since my parents live in that area. Brat & cheese curd, summer sausage & cheese curd, and Door County cherry pulled pork. Looking forward to having one this weekend (I've already had the Door County cherry pulled pork). Feel free to cast a vote for which one I should have and I'll report back on it (probably will anyway).

Five bowls canceled now. Holiday Bowl, scheduled for later today, canceled due to COVID outbreak in UCLA's program. Would it be a good thing if Cincinnati won the national championship because of COVID forfeitures? Or would it be a bad thing because then we'd have to listen to Alabama/Michigan/Georgia fans whine about how they would have won it if the games had been played?

Little concerned what the second part of the second to last sentence means. If he's not aligned with defensive shifting, then he's not a good organizational fit. Unless the Mets' "defensive shifting" means a lack thereof...

Myles Garrett is one of the 3-5 best pass rushers in the league, and I don't recall hearing his name called once. No sacks, no tackles, one QB hit. The did some chipping on Garrett, but for the most part they had the confidence to leave Nijman one on one with him. Nijman has been nothing short of incredible since he was forced into the lineup.

Look at PFF (iShares Preferred Stock and Income Securities ETF). The yield is 4.68%. I've keep some of my cash reserves in that fund since 2014. It's consistently been between 34 and 39 a share over the last five years, currently trading just under 39, except for when the market bottomed in late March of last year when it dipped to 27.75 at its lowest. It's about as low-risk as you can get while getting more than 1% yield.

The 1980 US Olympic team was pretty exciting. Granted, the Russians were playing with essentially NHL players but I don't think you can convince me that not playing with NHL players made those medal games uninteresting.

We need to stop comparing to the 2010/11 teams because those teams had nine and eight offensive skill position players respectively who went on to play in the NFL. Add that to the nine and seven OL who went on to play in the NFL, and they were literally a NFL team playing college teams. They do need to do some things differently offensively, but those 2010/2011 teams shouldn't be the expectation.

I don't recall seeing Huntley with a significant run to Gary's side. The long runs that Huntley had, from what I recall, were either to the other side or up the middle. Gary had some great pressures that forced Huntley to abort the pass and I recall a couple of 5 or so yard runs to Gary's side. But Gary's pressures to disrupt the passing game, especially in the 2nd half, were key to slowing down their offense. -
How in the bloody blue blazes does a 20-year-old who is presumably in excellent physical shape just pass away? Accident (not likely, or we probably would have heard unless it was something like carbon monoxide poisoning), medical (brain aneurysm, happened to a cousin of mine when she was 19), overdose, suicide. I really hope it is medical and something that can be rationalized (undiagnosed aneurysm) and not the last two. I heard the other day that enough Fentanyl was smuggled into the US this year to kill every single US citizen.

Davis was literally one of the backups of the team last year. And Davidson literally started every game last year and Wahl started over half of them.

And walked a ton. In his last two minor league seasons in 1,001 plate appearances he walked 190 times (to 256 K's). -
1) You didn't say "last year", you just called them backups. B) If you watched Davison (who wasn't a backup last year) throw down 29 on North Carolina in the tourney last year and followed Davis at all on the U19 World Cup team this past summer, you would have known that this is a very talented backcourt. Throw in Wahl who is one of the best defenders in the country and a true freshman good enough to start at PG and you have a team that, barring any key injuries, will beat a lot of good teams this year.

Weren't their fans calling for their coach to be fired after consecutive 2-4, 9-4, 10-3, 8-5 seasons? A coach who, prior to this year, was 49-22 in his career (61% winning percentage) and had never beaten their biggest rival and was 3-4 against their second biggest rival? Some fans were calling for Harbaugh to be fired, while others raised the legitimate question of who Michigan could get that would be able to beat OSU without being willing to play by the same rules the Buckeyes do. Those calling for his head also seemed to forget the Rodriguez/Hoke years and that basically nobody in the B10 has beaten OSU over the last several years except for an occasional slip up. I'm alluding to the people who are clamoring for Paul Chryst to be fired, when Chryst has had a better winning % at UW than Harbaugh had prior to this season. And not acknowledging the same issues with replacing Chryst that you brought up.

Yep. Cold oven @ 405. Pizza is ready about a minute after the oven dings that it's come to temperature. The thinnest of crispy layer on the bottom the way pizza is supposed to be. And get a package of shredded gourmet mixed cheddar cheese and put a handful or two on top of it before putting it in the oven. Jack's skimps on the cheese, but the gourmet cheddar on top fills the cheese gaps, melts nicely, and adds an excellent additional flavor to the pizza.
