  1. Thanks for the tips. The laptop has treated me as a new user so I could set the privacy settings when setting up. However, I'm starting to think the issue is Firefox and not my old computer. Maybe websites are deliberately not playing fair with Ad Block Plus. But having a LED screen now is much better.
  2. My laptop is getting old and the hardware is starting to go - I think there are bad sectors on the hard drive which is causing the CPU meter to occasionally spike to 100% which causes the computer to freeze up for a few seconds. (I've taken it apart and blasted gas on the fan but it still doesn't seem to help - seems like it freezes whenever I go to a website that has some type of video on it. ESPN.com is really bad - it freezes for several seconds and seems to have an issue with espncdn. Sometimes it freezes even when the CPU meter isn't at 100%.) So, given that the laptop is 7 years old and that the hardware is starting to fail I bought a refurbished HP laptop on eBay with Windows 10 on it. Seller has good ratings, and it comes with a 6-month warranty from HP. My question is, how do you change the privacy settings on Windows 10? If Windows 10 is already installed they may already be set. Want to change it so that it doesn't spy on everything I do. I've heard that this may not be the easiest thing to find/do. Thanks!
  3. The FM stations are usually in the 87.5-88.1 range where there are few stations and the ones that are there aren't very powerful. That was how I had to do Sirius when I first got it back in 2002. If you get interference you just switch to a different frequency.
  4. Not one single pitcher on the Cubs staff is homegrown. They seem to be doing alright.
  5. How much money could you have won if you had bet that as of May 12th the Brewers would have more wins than the Yankees?
  6. The Chicago Cubs lead the league in team ERA. Not one single pitcher on their roster was originally drafted or signed by the Cubs. Kyle Hendricks is the youngest pitcher on the entire staff (26.5 years old) and the only starter under the age of 30.
  7. Does anyone a) use Firefox as their browser, b) bank with Citi, and c) have Firefox lock up/not respond when you try to access your Citi account using Firefox? After logging in it freezes up for a few seconds and then wants to open some javascript file. When I get past this and try to get a virtual account number that window crashes and says Adobe Flash Player has crashed.
  8. A certain individual posts a 7-round Packers mock draft for going on a decade now and called Spriggs, Fackrell, Lowry (none in the correct round, but none-the-less) and even a UDFA in Mortell. It's a fun forum, even if you aren't a Packers fan. There's a college football forum too even if you aren't a Packers fan. Mods - any chance we can get a link to Lambeauleap.net pinned to the top of the Off Topic forum?
  9. Is The Miz a better champion than Zack Ryder? The tag team division is certainly getting some new blood - Enzo & Cass, the Vaudevillians, now Gallow & Anderson.
  10. Joan Laurer, a.k.a. "Chyna", found dead in her Redondo Beach, CA, apartment: http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/latest-police-said-chynas-death-was-possible-overdose/ar-BBs4rLp?li=BBnbfcL Having lived recently in Redondo Beach for seven years (2004-2011), I'm morbidly curious as to where her apartment is. I recall another semi-celebrity death or media-reported death in Redondo Beach in the last 6-months or so. She must be relatively new to RB because I didn't recall hearing anything about her presence when I was there. Then again, I've been gone for 5+ years.
  11. Seems to work for now, installed 18 updates... was set for midnight but didn't install them until 6:15am. I'll monitor, but hopefully the issue is just with checking for but not downloading updates. Speaking of software, anyone who knows software development and accounting/finance could make a very good living for themselves developing and marketing an alternative to Quicken. Given how awful their releases have been the last 3 years, and subsequently how frustrated and upset their loyal users are (see Amazon reviews, one written by me), any alternative would be jumped at by a lot of people. It won't be a unicorn, but you could easily get hundreds of thousands of people to fork over $19.95 for the software and $9.95/year to subscribe to download account transactions.
  12. One hour 20 minutes later, nothing. Restarted computer, tried again, now 1.5 hours later, still nothing.
  13. Windows Update is set to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". But as of about 6-9 months ago it stopped notifying me that there are updates. Computer starts freezing up on certain websites (Citi.com in particular), sure enough there are 34 updates available. Clicked to download and install updates. 15 minutes later the download hasn't started yet.
  14. A Sessile Fielder/Battlekow sighting. Brian posting on opening day. Next thing you know we'll be getting posts from Geno Selig Prieb and Batman.
  15. You wouldn't believe the number of fans leaving after that home run. Don't even want to see the bottom of the ninth. Classy climate pansies.
  16. LouisEly reporting live from right next to the Brewers dugout, OF side, 3rd row, usual Tropical Tuesday jersey. Damn forum won't let me upload pics larger than 256K.
  17. A case study now is fairly common - had a couple of those - but typically they give you the data/scenario. I don't find it an issue when they give you the data/scenario, so long as they don't ask you to divulge anything regarding your current employer. What they want to do is see how you think, how you analyze, etc. - it's more about how you do things than the actual analysis you come up with.
  18. Was hoping you'd chime in. When you say they make most of their money on Amazon, is that total $ or is that margin? I'm pretty sure that eBay charges lower commission (I've sold a few textbooks on Amazon the last couple of years and my net take seemed to be at lower % than what I sold on eBay), so I'd think that the higher margin would be selling on eBay. Amazon makes it harder to see competitive sellers, and the seller they showcase/quote on the product page isn't always the lowest price, so maybe sellers can charge a higher price on Amazon. Regardless, I just bought some personal care products on eBay for ~$95. Would have cost $120 on Amazon.
  19. Keep in mind you pay $99/year ($49 if a student) or whatever for the right for it to come the next day. It's pretty rare that I need something that urgently; figuring $35 or so for overnight shipping I could do that three times a year and pretty much come out even with the Prime annual fee. Lots of small businesses on eBay too. Amazon wants to sell everything to everyone... but the model that they are pursuing is one where everyone sells everything through them so that they collect a 15% commission. They've collected so much data that they know the core items that they can stock in brick-and-mortar stores - reducing their inventory investment - and leave the rest for people to sell through them. Where they want to get to is keeping core items/top sellers in inventory and collecting a 15% commission on everything else.
  20. Brian with not one, not two, but three posts... good to have you around
  21. I don't understand the obsession with Amazon. Most of the stuff you can find cheaper on eBay, and from reputable sellers (at least 5000 reviews, at least 99% positive). Sellers on eBay, because of the feedback system, are also motivated to ship faster, thus it arrives quicker than from Amazon. No $35 minimum, no having to wait for them to ship all of your things together to get free shipping. Many large companies are on eBay (Target, Best Buy, Wayfair, etc.) too.
  22. When it comes to Jungmann's minor league performance, let's keep in mind that: 1) The Brewers had him change his delivery B) The Brewers had him learn to throw a 2-seamer (vs. the 4-seamer he threw in college) 3) He changed (not sure if it was him or the Brewers) how he threw his curveball 4) By the time he learned 1-3 he was in Colorado Springs, where the curveball doesn't work so well
  23. It's because motorcycles overheat much easier than cars. They are for the most part designed to be cooled by air flow and not coolant, thus if they are stuck in traffic without moving they will overheat. They are smaller and much more efficient than cars, so they don't want to discourage people from riding them. The alternative makes traffic worse. The point about times changing and phone distractions are valid, and riders need to keep that in mind.
  24. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year. They made the Sweet 16. It was probably very unlikely that they would have beaten UNC to make the Final 4, but you never know. The silver lining is that the season ends with a little poop in their mouth - that bad taste they've been left with will motivate them this offseason to not let that happen to them again next year. Hayes hopefully realized that it is a little different when teams are focusing on you instead of you being thought of as the 3rd/4th best option, and that will hopefully guide his preparation for next year. Four starting seniors, a(nother) year of experience under the belt for Happ, Hill, Iverson, Thomas, and Illikainen, plus the addition of Pritzl and Van Vliet. Not unrealistic to have a 3rd Final Four in four years.
