  1. MLB really needs to lighten up on the marijana issue and not link it in the substance abuse poliy(I think weed shouldn't be considered as bad as steroids and PED's) . We all know marijana isn't a bad drug, a harmful drug and is actually 10x safer than alcohol but it is just something that is fowned upon in our American culture. I agree whole-heartedly that steriods/PEDs should be punished much more severely than marijuana. I disagree with the second statement though - it has been shown that most people who have problems with drugs much more severe than marijuana (cocaine, heroin, etc.) started with marijuana, and when the high of marijuana (or the lure of making money from selling it) wasn't good enough for them anymore they moved on to bigger and more dangerous things. Also, having one alcoholic drink per day has generally been proven by medicine to be beneficial for most people (ask any doctor), especially if it is red wine, so alcohol is just as safe as marijuana if not moreso. Whether the tests are right or wrong is irrelevant. Jeffress knew that by smoking grass, he risked losing his job. I can accept the first mistake, but the second time around is just plain stupidity. I lose my job if I test positive for marijuana. Whether right or wrong, employers have the right to set their own rules, and if you don't like those rules then you don't work there. The addiction isn't what kills... what kills tons of people I know is that it destroys your ambition and makes you content to settle for a life that's less than the kind of life you had once aspired to lead. Amen.
  2. Budinger is more of a SF than a SG, and the Bucks have plenty of SFs. From what I gather, Ilyasova is regarded much higher than Budinger and CV is more of a SF than a PF - don't let the height fool you. So if they bring back Ilyasova then I think the right move is Meeks. Redd is listed at 6'6", and Meeks 6'4", so not much of a difference there. But I think Meeks is better than Bell, and with Redd out they need a guy who can score, so I think it is a good pick. The thing with Blair is that almost every team passed on him, so that makes me think that it is a common opinion among GMs and professional talent evaluators. Let's say that Blair was a legitimate #10 overall pick; he ended up lasting almost until that pick in the second round. So every team from #10 overall to #37, which by my count was 21 different teams, passed on him. To me that says that there are legitimate concerns about his ability to play in the NBA.
  3. Yaroslov Korolev, #12 overall to the Clippers in 2005. 34 career games, 168 career minutes, 39 career points. Granted, Korolev was not taken over Anthony/Bosh/Wade, but Darko is still in the league and just turned 24.
  4. Glad. We. Drafted. Pitching. Anyone else regret not trading him while his stock was high? Kid has no value now.
  5. One hit and four Ks in two innings for Lintz... not bad at all. Hopefully it was the jitters in finding the strike zone and thus the four walks. Tyson keeps on rolling... very good to see. Steffan Wilson has finally caught up his doubles with his home runs. And Zach Braddock.. has he reached legend status yet?
  6. I like the Meeks pick a lot (obviously, because I predicted it). What I like: 1) he was able to score a lot even though everyone knew he was the go-to guy at UK; 2) 1.50 points per shot, second only to Harden among SG's drafted, and fourth among all guards drafted (Lawson - 1.70, Teague - 1.57, Harden - 1.56); by comparison to other SGs: Evans - 1.25 (#4), Curry - 1.42 (#7), DeRozan - 1.32 (#9), Williams - 1.18 (#11... can you say Marcus Haislip?), Henderson - 1.29 (#12) 3) FT% - 90.4% I really think Meeks has a chance to be another Michael Redd. He's a little shorter than Redd, but with Redd not being ready for the opener and needing a better backup SG than Charlie Bell I think it was a very good pick.
  7. Wasn't there a top basketball recruit at UW-Madison about 10 years ago who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and ultimately left the team his sophomore season? It is a very devastating condition, and having a close colleague whose wife has it he has told me there are plenty of times when he leaves the house where he brings the keys to the gun cabinet with him. Like twobrewers said, it can be very difficult for those people to hold down any job; we can only hope that it is a mild case.
  8. Some analyst somewhere in the last week said something about Holiday - he said that he can't recall Holiday making many, if any, plays last year. And I think he was right; Holiday seems to be more athletic ability and not so much playmaker. Looking at the highlights and what they have to say about Jennings, it seems like he has a lot of upside. I'm OK with the pick.
  9. Not even a link on MSN.com right now to that story, but a big headline on MJ. Joel, I think your third post in this thread is almost quotable.
  10. Thankfully DeRozan is gone.. I think he has "bust" written all over him.
  11. Flynn gone, my guess is... I'll take the sleeper, Eric Maynor, PG, VA Commonwealth.
  12. Flynn at #10, Jodie Meeks at #41.
  13. Only one of the runs was earned!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  14. *Ahem* Good news on Cappy. Perhaps he can provide some help in September? Speaking of help in September... the comments about Braddock make me wonder where he will be sent in September - the AFL, or...? Curious that Anundsen was not on the list, but Hand seems to have taken Cody's former starting spot in Huntsville by storm and with Parra at AAA maybe there isn't room for Anundsen at the next level right now.
  15. The Bucks do need a PF, so it makes sense to pick up Johnson. Hopefully he's added weight and is heavier than the listed 210lbs on his 6'9" frame. Thomas can play PF too. Sad though that the state of economics of the Bucks, and the NBA, is that Richard Jefferson is traded for those three. My guess is that both Thomas and Bowen are let go. Any chance the Bucks can trade Gadz and the #10 pick to Minnesota for #18?
  16. Here are the two stats about Katin this year that stand out the most to me: OPS w/runners on: .985 OPS w/RISP: .948 Based on these two stats, clearly he does not belong on the Milwaukee Brewers.
  17. Off the top of my head, I'm hard pressed to think of anyone so far who would be as good of a candidate for Most Improved this year as Josh Butler. And to do it being yanked around to his third different stop this year (and it's not even July yet).
  18. While the "My Humps" nomination was a stellar one, and Brittney Spears' "Womanizer" is a solid one, I have to go with that damned Ghostown DJs track from about 10 years ago which featured the worst synth drum beat ever in the history of mankind. I heard Energy 92.7FM in San Francisco play it a couple of years ago, and I called them and said, "I don't know what shallow grave you unearthed that Ghostown DJs track from, but wherever you did please go back and return it and dig a deeper hole so that it may rest in peace and never sees the light of day again."
  19. Nick Tyson quietly keeps rolling along... Katin with triple #3 on the season - he's a lot more athletic than people give him credit for. Gillespie with triple #6 on the season (and a walk)... can we put to bed any questions about his speed?
  20. I'm not keen on Blair - his weight is a concern and 6'7" is starting to get a little small for a PF. I'm also concerned about his FT% of 60%, and to my knowledge he has not ever taken a 3-point shot (I know he has never made one) so I don't know how good of a player he is from beyond 10 ft, and he'll run into a lot more athletic 6'10"+ guys in the NBA that will eat him up down low. If they go PF the guy I like and my sleeper for the pick is James Johnson of Wake Forest; at 6'8" 257 he still has the bulk to play PF but is much more athletic than Blair, plus he has a higher ft% and hit ~30% on 3-point shots so he has some type of shot from beyond 15 ft. Plus big guys from Wake Forest seem to do well in the NBA. The general consensus among mock drafts is that Holiday won't be there at #10; if they go PG my preference would be Flynn, followed by Lawson and Eric Maynor. I'm concerned about Teague's assist:turnover ratio - to me he seems more like Mo Williams than a real PG, but if he turns out like Mo Williams it would be far from the worst #10 pick in league history.
  21. Someone want to add up the total number of unearned runs given up by our organization today?
  22. And in other news, the sky is blue. Someone just for kicks want to post a picture of him circa 1999-2000? You know, because it didn't look like he was juicing at all.
  23. Nice call Carnac, but with 8 hits given up in 3.2 innings it certainly is arguable that he deserved it.
  24. Cat doesn't have a lot of years left in the tank, if any, so it could be a chance for Katin next year. Otherwise the best bet is for another team to value his power so he has some trade value. Hopefully Hart is back on track... but he has a big sample size in a year and a half to rebound from before I'm convinced he's back to 2007 form.
  25. Spaulding! Gorman Gotta say Warren Spahniel is pretty darned good
