  1. Glad to see the bullpen wanted to show Mark the same respect they have shown the veteran starters all year! Nothing like giving away the lead he built up to show him he is part of the team
  2. Someone asked Lucroy about this and he said he would be terrible at any other position. Said he hasnt played another position since grade school
  3. So for those watching the game what are your thoughts on Rogers so far? Looks like he has settled down nicely after the leadoff HR. No walks, good amount of ground balls and low pitch count
  4. I dont think the starter part is what he hopes may drive the price up. My guess is the offers are pretty terrible so Melvin is trying to say he doesnt have to trade Parra and the team actually likes him, so make us an offer that would get us to part with him. Essentially - "We like him enough to not just give him away for nothing."
  5. The more I read about him, the more surprised I am we were able to get him for Kottaras. Perfect type of trade for a guy like Kottaras - a high upside but definitely bust possibility type player. I am much happier with this than a AAA starter who has a serviceable ERA but weak peripherals - that is what I thought we would get
  6. I dont think it is too big of deal to trade FA to be within the division but the haul they got is what really surprised me. Now I know Liriano hasnt been consistent but over the last 2 months he had actually been really good. He had a terrible last start but other than that had an ERA in the 3's over the last 2 months or so.
  7. Chicago found their starter after losing out on Greinke. Liriano has had some great games lately but is still inconsistent. The Twins didnt get much in return. Eduardo Escobar is a slick fielding no hit SS. I remember his name popping up in a rumor with the Brewers a year or two back. They also got a soft-tossing but effecting AAA arm. I am surprised the Twins didnt get more. Seems like a low-risk, high-reward type move for Chicago. When he is on Liriano is really tough and they gave up a utility IF and an arm that doesnt look special at all. Liriano is a FA after this year so the Twins at least got something for him http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/8210504/chicago-white-sox-get-left-hander-francisco-liriano-minnesota-twins
  8. In 2008 he was ranked #60 according to baseball-reference. Lot of strikeouts. A potential bullpen arm for a catcher that was number 3 on our depth chart going forward. I will take that.
  9. You know, there's a lot of talk about how by trading Greinke, Melvin was punting on 2012. But he went all-in with the Huntsville roster! SL Championship or bust, baby! Send Burgos back down! I only the read the first half of your post and I thought, "He should have left Burgos down in AA for the ultimate AA rotation!" Burgos, Nelson, Hellweg, and Pena is a solid top 4. The lineup was already really good before getting Segura. Melvin going all in at Huntsville
  10. I posted this a while ago because there was a thread talking about how the JJ trade was the worst trade Melvin ever made. JJ seems to have been a little unlucky with his BABIP but even still he has been dreadful. His June and July OPS is around .530!
  11. The goal is to win championships not to be .500 or to get blown out in a 1/8 series in the NBA. The Brewers have made the playoffs twice now so that just getting close to the playoffs isnt the goal. The goal should be to consistently be a top team with a chance to win the WS. The Bucks goal should be to win playoff series and being the 7 or 8 seed doesnt really make that likely
  12. All of the sudden our minor league pitching just go more exciting. The additions of Hellweg and Pena give the Brewers two more AA arms who could challenge for a rotation spot late next year or in 2014. Peralta and Rogers have been much better lately. Fiers has impressed in his MLB stint. Thornburg has his question marks but I think it is way too early to judge. Burgos is now AAA. Nelson is back and pitching. Jungmann has had a few terrible starts but I still think they are asking him to work on secondary pitches. I will withhold judgment until next year because there still has been some bright spots with him. We also have two injured guys who could make some noise next year with Scarpetta and Bucci. Scarpetta could be a nice bullpen arm going forward.
  13. Dont forget to throw Fiers in there, since he is young as well. Burgos is another guy who could be added to that list and you have guys like Bucci and Scarpetta coming back from injuries
  14. I dont see any reason Bradley should be ahead of Hellweg or Pena 1. Segura 2. Thornburg 3. Peralta 4. Hellweg 5. Nelson 6. Gennett 7. Jungmann 8. Pena 9. Roache 10 Burgos Next group - Taylor, Schafer, Morris, Coulter. Khris and Kentrail Davis, Rogers, McFarland
  15. If Melvin doesn't get a good offer now, there's no problem waiting for the offseason. I just think he should be traded prior to next season, as his trade value will drop after the start of next season. As to the Braves, Prado has been playing a lot of 3B and even SS, so they may have a spot for Hart. On that note, they may have a spot for Ramirez this offseason when Chipper's gone. I think right now they're looking for a stud SP, but if they set their sights on Hart, I'm sure Doug's still interested in their minor league pitching. I didnt realize Prado was playing those other positions. I would be very open sending Hart their way if they are willing to part with some pitching or a 3B prospect. Not sure what their system looks like
  16. The main reason I would trade Hart now is because the teams vying for him will be limited. Who would really need him? People say the Braves but they have Heyward, Prado, and Freeman at Hart's positions. I could see the Giants. I think the off-season is the best time when teams all have hope
  17. Interesting they put the new guys in but somehow left Jed Bradley at #3 ahead of Thornburg, Hellweg, Nelson, Pena, etc
  18. I am so happy Bourjos isnt in the deal. I am not a huge fan of the guy and I would have been so disappointed if he was anything close to the centerpiece of the deal.
  19. Man that video sounds like it came from the Brewer's media relation not an independent scout like Mayo. He was really high on the three guys. Said Segura had a plus arm and plus range. Said Hellweg's upside is a top of the rotation starter. Has a plus fastball and plus offspeed stuff. Said Pena has plus fastball and a plus breaking ball and if he has figured out command issues will be a solid starter but could be a late-inning guy as well.
  20. And most of the board rejoices as they read those words. Should be fun to watch the young guys pitch. Hopefully we can trade Wolf and open up another spot in the rotation
  21. I am surprised to hear Segura has a low floor. The other two do seem to have low floors. The ceilings of all 3 is really exciting
  22. No clue! Can Heyman tweet, "The Brewers were thrilled to not have an overrated CFer as a main part of the deal."
