  1. If Ramirez only had one year left the Yankees could be a potential landing place with ARod out for 2 months but I doubt they make the move for Ramirez since he had 2 more years. I dont see where he would fit next year on that team. I guess they could DH him
  2. The last few days have went perfectly for the Brewers. Hamels signs, Greinke looks terrific, and Lewis goes down.
  3. This could set up any better for the Brewers. Hamels is off the market and Greinke was dominant last night. It is nice to get a win in a year where everything that could go wrong did
  4. Or if he wants to win. We were two games from the WS last year so I am guessing that had something to do with it. So he might be willing to get traded to a contender
  5. Greinke became one of my favorite players really quick and tonight he didnt disappoint in what was probably his last start. If I was a contending team and saw what he did tonight I would have no questions he is healthy and filthy when he is on. He should net us a nice haul
  6. IF he checks out as healthy 12.5 million is not bad at all for one year of Marcum. Edwin Jackson got 11 million for one year this year and his number are not as good as Marcum's over the past few years. You get him for one year so the risk is very low. If he pitches well you have a great trade candidate as well. Comparing him to KRod is not right. KRod just wasnt very good last year and got starters money as an 8th inning guy. Marcum is a top half of the league starter. No comparison
  7. 3.3 BB/9 is a lot? To be fair once he got above high A ball he started to walk more guys. 4.5, 3.5, and 4.6 at his last stops. He does strike out a lot of guys though. Above high A he seemed to give up about a hit an inning as well. I dont love the trade as much as some here do but the guy still has really good upside when Dempster is the return. I would have wanted one more player if it was for Greinke, but what do I really know
  8. Anyone who watches him knows he is playing with fire every time out there. He has only had 7 clean innings this year out of 40ish chances for a full inning. He has a WHIP of 1.6 which is just brutal. The guy has been bad. I said earlier in this thread if we got a prospect with any sort of upside I would be happy. Heck, I would be happy to just not have to pay him the rest of the year
  9. Anyone claiming the Ramos for Capps deal was good for the Twins needs to talk to a Twins fan. That move is repeatedly, and rightfully, bashed by the Twins fans here in Minnesota. Half a season of good closing at a high salary and then two years of junk is not worth a young catcher who you had locked up at a low cost.
  10. Agreed. Especially now with Lewis going down. As others have stated, I think it will only take a few innings from Greinke tonight to solidify in other GM's minds that he's not injured. It wouldn't surprise me to see him pulled early and traded tonight somewhere. I was actually just going to ask about the possibility that Greinke only throws 3 or 4 innings tonight. If he is sharp early on I agree that he could have a short-lived outing. It will be fun to follow everything tonight
  11. What else do they need? Their team is better at almost every position. We could give up a corner OF minor league prospect or maybe they would want Gomez as a defensive replacement and pinch runner
  12. I completely agree. Lewis going down for the year seems like the confirmation this needs to happen. The best part of that is that the Angels see this too so maybe they are willing to overpay to help themselves and keep him from Texas.
  13. I agree. I think the players we get in return here will be AA ball at the lowest but likely AAA or recently called up guys. Doug is not going to do a complete rebuild here. I feel as though some on this board think Doug is a big dummy who has no idea what he is doing so they have braced themselves for a terrible trade. I am more in the middle on Doug so I am expecting a good return but one that some on this board will just hate. I am afraid if we dont get Olt some on this board will consider it a failure
  14. I take it back, he wouldnt be a Type A, because thats no longer used. the brewres just have to offer him the salary of $12.5 mil, or the avg of the top 125 contracts, within 5 days of conclusion of the world series. if he turns it down and signs elsewhere, THEN the brewers get a comp pick, and the signing team loses their 1st rd pick. That isnt a terrible option. Either we have a solid pitcher to help keep the rotation together after Zach and Randy leave or we get another early draft pick. I still am disappointed he got hurt because I think his return would have been really good. If you look at what Dempster brought back there is no reason to think Marcum would not have brought close to that. Dempster has a better ERA and WHIP but Marcum was really solid pre-injury as well.
  15. Well if he does that I agree he blew it big time. By lower ceiling close to the majors guy, I meant a guy who projects as a 3 starter and is under the teams control for a while. Not a guy with one year left and who is having a horrible year.
  16. I was under the impression he was not going to be a Type A so that is why I thought a trade was our only chance of getting anything in return. I really dont understand the new CBA
  17. Define "blow it". He wont get the imaginary trades that some on this board come up (the Hart for Matt Cain trade rumor comes to mind). However, I am afraid he will get a lower ceiling, close to the majors pitcher. I hope I am wrong. I remember being so underwhelmed about the Carlos Lee trade that I am fairly worried about the return here. I dont think he completely blows it but he does seem to go for the single instead of the home run when he sells.
  18. Going into the year Richards was the 83 ranked prospect and Segura the 55th. Cron is interesting but seems old for his league Olt was the 43rd ranked prospect. Now I dont know where they would stand right now but I would be happy with either return unless Richards is over ranked. His MLB numbers outside of ERA are not inspiring Baseball America released updated rankings in early July (top 50 only), and Olt is now #11. The others did not make the top 50. Thanks! I didnt really look too closely. I guess the question would be, "would you rather have a top 15 prospect or a two top 80 prospects?" I would lean toward the one top prospect but getting a couple guys make for less of a chance for a bust trade.
  19. We dont have elite bats in the minors but between Davis, Morris, Scooter, Schafer, Gindl, and Green in the upper levels you would hope a couple could become everyday players.

  21. So what do you think the likelihood a guy like Marcum could be trade happens to be? Would a team chasing for a Wild Card spot be willing to give up a decent prospect for him? If I remember correctly what often happens is a team blocks someone else from being able to get the guy by putting in a claim for him right?
  22. I wonder if this is comparable since getting Infante was huge for the Tigers. Apparently 2B was their biggest need on offense and Infante is pretty good year. Sanchez is no Greinke but it is a nice haul for Detroit. Edit - missed that Florida got a couple other prospects as well. Nice move by them.

  24. Sounds like Marcum is doing a bullpen session Tuesday. Obviously, there is not enough time for him to do a rehab and get traded right now but how does the waiver trade process work? Would Marcum be a good candidate for that?
  25. Interesting stuff on there but like you said who knows if it is accurate. A MLB-ready pitcher ans SS would be terrific. Honestly, when you think about what we gave up for Greinke - the two biggest pieces were a pitcher that is about MLB-ready and SS - it is kind of funny. Also made mention of people calling about Hart. Not sure who would be in our lineup next year without him but I would be willing to move him for the right price. Rebuilds can happen quickly with the right trades as Arizona found out last year - although maybe that was fluke thing with how they are playing this year.
