  1. Craziest rumor of the off-season has to be the SMU going after Buzz Williams rumor. Didnt see that coming. Crazier part is it sounds like Buzz is listening. This doesnt seem like a power play to get more money since he got a big extension last year. Not sure what to make of it but Marquette insiders are saying the rumor has legitimacy.
  2. I'm responding mostly to your first line here... I think the Jays are willing to take risks on talent, not necessarily me-first guys. Anthopoulos seems close to 100% focused on talent, not much else. I think a season or two from now, we could easily be talking about the Blue Jays having one of the best left-sides of the infield in all of MLB. I have to admit I'm a little envious of Jays fans; I wish Melvin would be more talent-focused than he is, but at this point I don't expect him to change. Anthopoulos sold incredibly high on Marcum & bought incredibly low on Escobar. Hard for me not to envy those moves. Dont get me wrong I think Anthopoulos is doing a great job. He knows the only way to win in that division is going after young guys and he has done a really good job at acquiring talent. They are smart enough to only take "attitude" guys who can make their team a lot better. If their pitching holds up they will have a window where they are very good
  3. Toronto seems willing to take risks on me-first type players. The comments about Lawrie mirror those from Cardinals fans about Colby Rasmus. Lots of talent but also "do things my way attitude." Doesn't mean they wont be great players but Toronto is taking some big risks with attitude. Maybe the win and nobody cares. If they struggle it will be interesting. None of this means I wish we didnt still have Lawrie. His bat seems dynamic and his Spring Training stats are ridiculous
  4. I think it is over-simplifying to say people are glad Lawrie isnt here because of his attitude. People would obviously be willing to accept his attitude issues if he was here, much like I was able to root for Prince even though I wasnt a big fan of his personality. I think it just makes the deal make more sense from the Brewers perspective if he had been really hard to work with. My question isnt the trade at all, it is just could have we gotten a better arm than Marcum whom I like a lot?
  5. Yep and they were until Atlanta collapsed down the stretch. They had to trade a top prospect to get the pitching they needed to make a run and they had a healthy Carpenter and Pujols. Now they have a rehabbing Wainwright and Beltran. A loss of Carpenter would be huge to that team
  6. No doubt the kid is talented but he comes across as a cocky, immature punk in that article. We will miss his talent but not his personality. I like swagger but not disrespect and that is what I had read about him before the trade and again now. I think his career will be tough to watch because he will be very good, but I will be interested to see how he handles adversity going forward
  7. They actually had a play called before the missed free throw. They knew what they were running but they didnt execute the play. Bo said it was a play they had a lot of success on over the night but they movement wasnt there
  8. Bo said he doesnt like to leave his inbounder with no timeouts left late in the game. Badgers are a bad inbounding team. I can see either call.
  9. Not a good half by either team but that 2 before the half (missed travel) is big for Marquette. Marquette needs someone other than Mayo to hit a three. Each teams has missed a fair amount of shots at the rim. Marquette needs to remember you dont have to push every single time.
  10. Sam Dekker shows why he is one of the top recruits in the country! 12 points in about 50 seconds to take his team from down 8 to a 1 point win. Racine was the better team but Dekker willed his team to a win. He had 40 points and 13 rebounds!
  11. The announcers actually dont know the rule. Finally one of them realized it and then said, "that is the correct call." They were focused on the guys in the lane not the guy behind the shooter
  12. That particular type of lane violation is rarely called because it rarely happens. Very rarely does a team send one of the back guys crashing in for a rebound. They stay back to stop the other team from getting out in transition. It mainly only happens at the end of the game when a team is desperate for a rebound
  13. My thoughts exactly. Seeing a 15 win was a lot of fun even if it wrecked my bracket. If St. Bon would have taken out FSU that would be crazy.
  14. They need someone to root for in the tourney since Tubby cant get them there (and when he does he cant win a game).
  15. It wasnt for lack of good looks. Taylor left 10 points out there on layups. Evans missed a couple free throws.
  16. The Big East tourney has been really bad basketball so far. Low scoring, or up-tempo turnover fests in the first few sets of games. Sloppy basketball all around. Marquette look uninspired to say the least. They had 3 guys with 6 turnovers or more
  17. Weeks works counts pretty well so I am good with him at 1. I would rather have Gamel or Lucroy at 2 than Morgan but that isnt a huge deal. Wolf goes 3 to break our lefties up. It is as simple as that. Marcum is definitely our number 3
  18. No one on this team likes batting 5th. I like the lineup although I would flip Lucroy and Gonzalez and I might put someone else in the two hole. Morgan batting second will mean a ton of bunts
  19. Will Carroll interview from Disciples of Uecker. http://disciplesofuecker.com/dissecting-braun-appeal-interview-with-will-carroll/ Nothing really new but he explains a little synthetic steroid stuff.
  20. Well it's possible he shot up and then was told to go pee in a cup. How much warning do they get? I thought it was minimal to no warning at all. I think they said it happened after the game. Seems like that would be a weird time to shoot up. My guess is guys that do that stuff dont do it right at the stadium. Seems like a pretty bad idea
  21. I just wonder how Braun could have challenged test results that indicated a likelihood of synthetic testosterone in the system? There is zero way for him to win that. He went after what he could which was the administration of the test. If you can win a case going after one thing why would you waste your time going after the other.
  22. This seems like one of the biggest misconceptions out there. Every time Carroll or someone else who even has a slightly pro-Braun's side argument people keep saying, "Well how to explain the synthetic testosterone in his system?". But according to numerous people here and in other places there is no guarantee synthetic testosterone was in his system. This is a major issue but because the initial leak said they found synthetic testosterone the story has stuck. I am glad to have guys on this board with a science background and other guys out there explaining this better
  23. Wow. That is a ton of cash but he is a very good catcher. I would have expected 5 years 50 million but I guess I have no idea on the market
  24. Yeah I think there are really three realistic options 1. He is actually innocent and has never taken a steroid type substance 2. He unknowingly took a substance which would make him guilty but he got off 3. He was taking an illegal substance to fully heal from an injury but got off I dont see any reason to believe he has been taking them his whole career.
  25. It's basically a not-so-covert smear campaign at this point. Wait for some one to chime in saying, "One time I overheard Braun say he wished he could hit more home runs!"
