  1. That sequence started with the 49ers flipping the field and pinning GB back inside their 20 after after a few first downs and taking the ball to midfield. GB's touchdown drive was not influenced at all by SF starting inside their 5 after the failed 4th and short instead of opting for a chip shot field goal. Thank the football gods they found a way back down the field and Crosby hit another 50+yard field goal to win it in spite of some horrible officiating tonight - but if they take those 3 points in the first half, there's much less drama at the end of this game. Nope. Doesn't work that way. The events over the course of the game aren't isolated. Each one potentially changed the following decisions. What you're not taking in to account here is the 49ers drive that began inside the 5 ended up stalling out. Was fatigue a factor? Who knows. Would they have kicked a fg if they started at the 25 or the 35? Would their offensive playcalling change if they're not backup at the 3? You don't know how any of that plays out. So you can't just assume that if they take the 3, they're up 9 and the end of the game. It's just not that simple. You don't know how any of it plays out either - I'm just taking the points in that spot of this game on the road, simple as that. I'm glad they won despite that decision and alot of crap they had to deal with in the 2nd half and I'll just leave it at that.
  2. And that fumble/fg in the 4th quarter would have put them up 9 instead of 6 and effectively ended the game - how was that the right call? I disagree completely That's fine you can disagree but the game plays out differently if they kick a FG. You can't just assume everything after that decision remains the same. Ok, tell me how exactly it plays out worse if they go up 13-0 in that spot early in the 2nd quarter instead of giving them the ball at their 5 and having them march to midfield before punting. I think if anything that leads to SF making decisions in much more of a chase mode, which benefits the Packers. Would've been perfect had they converted, but to me at that stage of the game I take the points. And I'd agree with OldHeidelberg - that whole sequence seemed out of whack and in part was why I wished they had just kicked the FG there, seemed like they were forcing something that just wasn't gonna succeed for whatever reason. Jones fumbling out of bounds on 3rd down, took awhile to get the 4th down play in and set up at the line, should have been a delay of game and the snap almost nailed the guy in motion....seemed to have a better chance at ending in disaster than simply not converting. Oh well, glad they won in spite of alot going against them during the 2nd half - I'll take 2-1 no matter how they got there!

They got the fumble and field goal later on. Going for it on 4th was 100% the right call. To say otherwise is disregarding every decision that may or may not have changed as a result of that field goal. The game plays out totally differently. And that fumble/fg in the 4th quarter would have put them up 9 instead of 6 and effectively ended the game - how was that the right call? I disagree completely and don't think the entire game plays out that drastically differently by taking a 13-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter - particularly when that decision is completely insulated from the entire 2nd half, and frankly didn't have an immediate impact even on GB's touchdown drive that put them up 17-0.

  5. Would have loved the FG in the 1st half though....
  6. 20-7 would look alot better to me than 17-7 at the half with SF getting the ball to start the 3rd quarter....just sayin'
  7. san fran gets the ball to start 2nd half, yes? would be nice to hold them to 3 here after that weekly special teems flub
  8. I get being aggressive - but you take the points there
  9. Pretty awesome to see the Brewers clinch a division title at home. With a whole week left of games. And while the team chasing you has won 16 straight, including 4 against them head to head. Congrats STL, your crazy winning streak has earned little more than an exhausted bullpen and a trip to face the dodgers or giants in a wild card game, then a short series against the other team. Good luck with that!
  10. It actually all still starts with the o-line. IMO, they aren't athletic enough to run block or pass block effectively as a unit to run any kind of system. If people want to run more of a pass-happy system, UW needs to do a better job of finding o-lineman that can pass block, not just picking from a laundry list of 6-5 320lb highschoolers from WI that have poor agility.
  11. How they ever got Russell Wilson boggles my mind to this day. That team was loaded talentwise and just needed a good QB to be a borderline national title contender. This 2021 Badger roster is a joke by comparison.
  12. Starting to think Leonard stayed at UW because he saw the head coaching position opening up sooner than most thought...this is a bad offense and I don't see it getting better anytime soon until both personnel and coaches on that side of the ball are replaced.
  13. For all the talk about how WI has been better at recruiting in recent years, the personnel they have on the field offensively either looks like the recruit rankings were garbage, or the badgers' program has really lost its ability to develop players....or most likely a combination of both.
  14. In a 5 game series, I'd rather face the team that couldn't start Wheeler two of those games and that doesn't have Harper in the middle of their lineup. Harper is on a serious heater down the stretch and probably deserves the NL mvp and wheeler covers up alot of their pitching issues when he is starting.
  15. Still a great defender....and when he has been healthy his bat looks more like what he was in 2018 vs 2019.
  16. I think the key thing with Yelich right now is he needs to be hitting lower in the order, particularly with Adames and Garcia back. Slotting him down around 5th or 6th after Wong, Adames, Escobar, Garcia, and maybe even Narvaez/Urias makes sense to me. He's just not slugging enough to justify hitting in the heart of the order with these other guys healthy.
  17. I think the current financial and practice structure of the NFL really doesn't allow for many late round QBs ever getting a shot at enough playing time to find out if they can be competent starters. Most teams at some point have to pay a decent starting QB such a large chunk of their salary cap that there's really no room for competition from undrafted or late round draftees at that position - basically if the 1st rounder handpicked by a GM flops, he's out of a job and the next GM gets to pick his guy in the next draft. And if the QB is decent, it's not like any training camp begins with a legit competition to see who enters the season as a starter. Because of that, just about any quarterback that looks like he could be a decent NFL starter gets a 1st round grade and often their stock rockets to the top of the draft because of how important that position is for teams to be competitive. I remember Romo was a backup for several years before he got a shot as a starter, and he was awesome in preseason games and mop-up duty before being given the reins for a roster that was cap-strapped enough to warrant rolling with a cheap quarterback for awhile that was familiar in their system.
  18. Assuming the Brewers win another game or two and the Cardinals don't finish on a 20-some game winning streak, all that matters to me is the fact the Brewers will win the division and have Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta rested and ready to start the first three games of a 5 game set against the NL East winner, combined with a rested bullpen and likely a relatively healthy lineup. This recent 5 game losing streak hasn't changed that from being an absolute certainty. No matter how they look getting there, that's alot better "momentum" than having to go out west to face either LAD or SF in a WC game, or then facing the other team in a best of 5 series. In fact, all 3 of those teams (cards, dodgers, giants) are envious of the brewers' current position just based on the draw they will be stuck with to reach the NLCS.
  19. If I played for a mediocre team and was destroying one of the top teams in the majors I'd be happy too. They're going to be a playoff team. There's little doubt now. I don't really think they're mediocre and if they get Flaherty back and have him to pair with Wainwright I'd definitely take them seriously myself. If they knock off both the dodgers and giants, ill gladly tip my cap to them and then also feel pretty good about the pitching advantage the Brewers would have on them over a 7 game NLCS. Sorry, these games being played right now just don't make me sweat (or feel overconfident if they were going the other direction) about how things would play out a full month from now in the playoffs if they wind up facing off there.
  20. Go back and look at the box scores for those games played in April. The lineups for both teams are very different than the ones playing now, so those games have zero relevance or predictive value for the postseason. Sort of like a game with Anderson starting for the Brewers like tonight, huh?
  21. Oh, I want no part of the Cardinals. Losing to the Giants is way preferable to losing to the Cards, and I don't much like either of those teams. Still, that is a totally emotional response. I don't think this series is all that predictive. Cards won two close games and are now up 6-0 in a game where we started a guy who won't sniff the postseason. And we haven't thrown Hader or Williams. I don't like it. I don't want the Cards. But this is an 8-7 season series if the score holds tonight. That doesn't feel very predictive to me. The fact that we are 30 games over 500 and will trail the season series against these guys isn't a source of major comfort if we play them. The Brewers would be 40 games over .500 if they didn't play the royals, tigers, or twins....does that make the cards dregs, too?

Momentum often carries over into the offseason and you never want to be free falling heading into the playoffs. Momentum in baseball is for fans...
  23. I mean, its baseball....an 83 win crap cardinal team won a world series. Ask yourself this - Would you rather face the dodgers or cards in the nlcs? I know my answer, and its not the team that could throw scherzer, Buehler, and Urias with Kershaw all 7 games of a series
  24. why? the season series between the two clubs is currently tied at 7 with 5 games left to play, and the Brewers are currently 9.5 games better than the Cards in the standings? I get the frustration losing a couple games recently - but some people just can't help finding a ledge to jump off no matter what...
