  1. People are getting way too invested in how a team is playing on September 22nd. Our first postseason game is October 8th, no team right now is on their way to the postseason hot/cold. Amen....I'd much rather have the offense scuffling right now and appear to be busting out of it in two weeks than having them riding a hot streak now only to slump in early October. In a perfect world there would be no slumps, but reality is there are, and what is happening offensively for the Brewers right now has no impact on how they will hit or not hit weeks from now in games that truly do matter.
  2. Perhaps my frustrations with our current offensive struggles caused me to type about winning the division but you have to admit we can't go into the post season hitting like this. Postseason action is at minimum two full calendar weeks away for the Brewers....who cares how they are hitting right this second? What they are doing offensively in the last week doesn't mean they will still all be slumping in early October, just like what they were doing for most of April-early May didn't mean they were going to be terrible all season long offensively. I'd be more concerned for the postseason offense if guys like Adames, Escobar, Garcia, Cain, etc. haven't returned to the lineup yet following some nagging injuries that have kept them out of action here and there the past few weeks - particularly Adames. The silver lining to this recent offensive slump is key starters (Woodruff, Peralta, Burnes) for the postseason rotation do not look like they are burned out - to me that was always the biggest concern, because the Brewers got to the position they're in riding their pitching staff through the expected offensive ups and downs a regular season brings. They are still sitting pretty for the division title and #2 postseason seed in the NL. I honestly could care less about what the bats are doing in mid September - it will mean nothing for the playoffs.
  3. Right now they are. They are hitting their stride at the right time and our bats have gone cold. Again. Our pitching is still very good but if you can't score it is hard to win games, especially in the postseason. We might still win this division but if we continue to stink at the plate all of this regular season success will be for naught. Right this second the Cards are the best team ever, winners of 10 straight and an absolute juggernaut!!! At least until they lose their next game, at which point will likely be the same time when the Brewers basically clinch the division and the Cards will still be double digit games behind in the standings and need to run through two buzzsaws out west just to reach the NLCS. We might still win this division.....c'mon.
  4. The biggest frustration I have watching this game is where most of Woodford's sliders are winding up in the zone, Bernier Brewer should have gotten a workout up and down his slide several times. They are just not doing damage with very hittable pitches right now...still lots of game left though
  5. That stat would be wins vs losses. C'mon folks, is it really shocking to correlate a team that plays good defense and limits walks is tough to score on - for anybody? That's pretty much a description of why the Brewers have over 90 wins on the season already themselves.
  6. Keke received the Packers' lowest PFF grade last night. Yes, even worse than Lancaster, who was second lowest. Keke's regression is a big part of the front's problems. He seemed to take a leap last year, but he's been terrible thus far. Additionally, a big part of this team's recent MLBs getting poor reviews, IMO, is the fact they haven't had enough good defensive lineman in front of them that can at least stymie blocking enough to allow the linebackers to get after running backs without first having to deal with a lineman blocking them downfield, too. When your D-lineman wind up on the ground after an initial block it's just a mess - and with the exception of Clark the other lineman on this roster are constantly knocked to the ground. I'm not saying the MLBs on this roster are great or even above average....but when you have below average interior linemen opening the gate to middling at best middle linebackers on most running plays, you're not going to be good at stopping the run.
  7. How is that even possible for a team that only won 7 games last season with a roster full of holes? Hell, 8 of those picks were either OL, front 7 defenders, or DBs - at positions that commonly at least give a few snaps on a rotation to stay fresh or in dime coverage packages. Spielman has to have a pile of Wilf skeletons stashed in storage unit somewhere out here...
  8. This would be a nice game to win to put the Brewers on the doorstep of a division title with two more left to play in the series (dying to watch a division title celebration on our home field while the dirty birds can watch and gripe about it) - plus I'm thinking the Reds find a way to get on a roll to finish off the season and it'd be great to get them a game closer to STL in the standings for WC2. Biggest plus aside from winning would be seeing Woodruff go deep into the game with a quality start and some key bats (Adames, Garcia, etc) keep rounding into form tonight.
  9. With the Reds' remaining schedule (5 pirates, 4 nats, 2 Chisox), if the Brewers take 4 of the 6 remaining games against the Cards I think the Reds still squeak into that 2nd WC spot. The 7 games the Cards have left against the Cubbies are going to give them some problems, too with the way the Cubs are hitting. In my perfect world, the combo of the Brewers and Cubs playing the Cards tough knocks them out of the playoffs altogether and the Reds squeak in, the Brewers winning that last series against the Dodgers prevents them from winning the NL West, the Braves hold off the Phillies for the NL East, and then the Reds find a way to have a good offensive game combined with a great Castillo start against the Dodgers to knock them out to leave the road to a Brewers' pennant without having to even consider facing the Dodgers or Cardinals.
  10. Sounds like they are trying to get him onto their practice squad, but he's most likely going to find a home elsewhere on a 53 man roster with a bigger TE need....whether that be a direct waiver claim or simply going to a different team's practice squad. Pretty much a wasted 3rd round draft pick a couple years ago - injuries at bad times limited his development, especially in 2019.
  11. Agreed - I think they have a decent shot at beating the 49ers simply because their backfield is decimated by injuries once again and I'm not sure Lance is ready to make enough plays offensively to beat a team that should be able to score 25+ points against their defense. I think the 49ers are a bit overrated because of what they were as a team in 2019 is the assumption they are still that talented of a roster - but they've lost key players on both sides of the ball and their quarterback still has training wheels on. That being said, the Packers definitely have got to find a way to shore up their DL and MLB problems, or San Fran may just run the triple option Sunday night and keep the game between the tackles to see if GB can stop it.
  12. The Brewers are 6-4 in their last 10 - that's not cruise control. It'd be great if they win at a 0.900 clip the rest of the way, but frankly it's more important they get key guys right for the postseason than try to grind out every ballgame into a win. It was great seeing Adames back in the lineup today - hoping Cain and Rowdy get back soon, too. Give the Cards credit for getting white hot at the right time and hoping they hold their own enough against the Brewers in their final 6 head to head matchups to avoid losing the WC2 spot, which likely will earn them a trip out west to face Mad Max or a trip to San Fran in a wild card game, only to be followed by a short series best of 5 against the other of those two teams.
  13. There is no reason to ever throw his way when there are so many guys open everywhere else in the secondary on every play. That's pretty darn good coverage by King there - would've been a circus catch had Cephus gotten his other hand free to corral that.
  14. Honestly I think they are just planning to wait to score until there's no time left in the half...why hurry when the defense they are facing is offering no resistance when it matters?
