  1. We've also got to remember that Rodgers' current contract doesn't necessarily prohibit the Packers from keeping him around the next 3 seasons...they have a handy out after 2021 without taking a huge cap hit, but they could also just pay him the current 2022 and 2023 contract amounts until he's 41. Not ideal given the cap issues but also not impossible. To me this a urinating contest between Rodgers' camp and the Packers' FO over exactly when Rodgers' deal gets redone and exactly how long the new guaranteed dollars are extended - Gute probably was hoping to get as friendly a restructure/new contract with Rodgers that would have them covered for the next 3-4 seasons, and Rodgers balked at it because it doesn't have enough guaranteed money in it for long enough. Rodgers is now playing hardball and trying to force the issue knowing the Packers probably don't want to have their best option be cutting him after 2021, and also knowing he'll never have more leverage than he does right now given his current contract status/age/coming off an MVP season/etc. And that all has nothing to do with Jeopardy or the fallacy that there hasn't been enough done around him to build a contending roster.
  2. I hate to break it to you, but getting vaccinated doesn't mean you wouldn't test positive for having COVID by any stretch....it likely means he would get through having COVID without displaying obvious severe symptoms warranting a hospital visit or extended absence from playing. This is why some countries (Israel leading the way with this) and health agencies are adjusting their testing approach for vaccinated people (only testing them if they show obvious symptoms to try and trace a variant that may be both breaking through a vaccine and presenting health problems to an individual). Heck, the PGA tour came out and said they aren't going to be testing fully vaccinated players/people - at some point the rest of the sports leagues and society in general will follow suit.
  3. I keep seeing that they should have traded back and probably still got their guy...I can't recall who posted it yesterday but I think it really bears some consideration with the current CBA - if one of their guys with a late 1st/early 2nd round grade was Stokes and he fell to them at #29 at a pick that carries the ability for them to exercise a 5th year option at a position that typically requires a large salary for premium players, I think drafting the same CB in late round 1 carries much more value than picking him early in round 2 and having 1 fewer season on his rookie deal. There was a run the second half of round 1 on CBs - that was a position of need and they obviously were high on Stokes as evidenced by it taking roughly 5 seconds for the Packers to turn in their pick. I'm good with drafting for both need and value in that spot!
  4. Some of this is Rodgers' ability to distribute the ball and the scheme the Packers currently have offensively, but the Packers' overall receiving corps (WRs, TEs, RBs) right now is probably top 5 in the NFL in terms of personnel. They have a dynamic receiver leading each position group (Adams WR, Tonyan TE, Jones RB), and also have young developing players below them in the depth chart that Gute has brought in via the draft. Stories about Rodgers not having enough around him are disproven by the fact they were the #1 offense last season. That's not just Rodgers turning a bunch of pumpkins into studs - because the 2018-2019 offensive statistics sort of proved that when the personnel Rodgers was playing with on offense did need some talent upgrades and/or more development. It's just lazy and jaded to say otherwise.
  5. Not to mention, of the few 'faults' I have with Gutey, they do not lie with his ability to evaluate talent. He's been pretty damn good thus far. He's made this team bigger, more athletic, faster. Bingo...its the biggest differentiator in his drafts compared to TT's - athleticism, notably speed, seems to be a bigger priority across the board with picks away from the lines.
  6. There are a ton of highly graded players on the 'Best Remaining' list that could readily entice a trade into early round 2 tomorrow. Jax would be an interesting team to target in a deal, maybe not the first 2nd round pick, but pick #45 (13 in round 2)
  7. To me this pick also quashes some of those lingering "Rodgers to Denver" rumors with Surtain coming back
  8. And a bit of a counter-article from the same publication that focuses on a particular negative: https://www.si.com/college/georgia/news/2021-nfl-draft-eric-stokes-georgia-football We shall see what develops, but the CB position was definitely needing an upgrade. So that article pretty much means they drafted a Jaire clone in terms of coverage ability/style, but he's 3 inches taller? Jaire probably had good ball skills in his scouting report, but his MO is the ability to blanket a receiver in coverage to prevent a QB from even wanting to throw the ball in his direction - appears Stokes' game is very similar in that regard, and you definitely can't knock him for lack of competition on who he's had to cover in college.
  9. takes two to tango though....might actually be more difficult to trade down when all the teams thinking about trading up are just fine standing pat and their guy falling to them, too.
  10. Travis Etienne here we come! Not today! Package deal with Lawrence for Rodgers....book it

  12. I'm sure Demovsky already has the article penned about how Rodgers didn't get input into their draft pick and is even more mad at their FO....just gotta wait for them to pick before clicking "post". There goes Farley...darn

  14. Even if the Packers stand pat, there will be a CB or OT there for the taking that shouldn't still be available. Also, is Owusu-Koramoah falling just because of his size?

  16. Pace has actually been really good at drafting in the later rounds Jackson (4th), Cohen (4th), Montgomery (3rd) and the jury is still out on Mooney (5th) but he showed promise last year. There are a few others that I am forgetting about but Pace has been rather good drafting after the 1st round. He's been their GM for 6 years - I'd hope he would find a half dozen or so good players after round 2 by now. Some of that is the fact he's had to draft well in later rounds because he's either missing his early round picks or he's trading them away.

  18. Also of note, Jones is the 5th QB chosen in this draft at #15 overall, and also behind 3 other Alabama standouts that include his WR#1 and #2 options to throw to last season... It is insane how much talent the Crimson Tide football program consistently has compared to everyone else. Right now I think you could pick an all star team using the rest of college football and pit them against Alabama on a given year, and I think that would be a 50/50 matchup.
