  1. Unless he's giving Arcia a day off as SS, Sogard shouldn't be in the starting lineup and playing 2nd if Villar is healthy. This is part of the problem I'm having with the musical chairs lineup/positions due to the combination of weird roster construction and all the day-to-day nagging ailments. For the love of God keep hitters who are actually hitting in the lineup.
  2. Wish miller park didnt have a roof, then alot of these early season home game dumpster fires would've been rained or snowed out so we could be griping about weather costing us watching hot garbage baseball.
  3. It would be nice to get through a series without any more brewer players getting injured. This day to day stuff is getting silly. And you already are playing with 24 tonight since Nottingham won't see the field unless bandy gets hurt.
  4. Doesn't seem like they have done a great job utilizing the 10-day DL to this point. I agree - seems like they have been using the 10-day DL the same way they've historically (and poorly) used the 15-day DL - guy gets dinged, team plays the next 2-3 games shorthanded while said player "rests", only to still make player move 4 days later and make the stint retroactive to the date of the injury. The intent of the 10 day DL was to try and limit how many times teams would play shorthanded while trying to avoid a player being absent for 15 days due to an injury that would take 7-10 days to recover from. Unless it's a hangnail or something like a bruise from getting HBP, if a player needs to leave a game and can't play the next day, I'd rather they just put them on the 10 day DL immediately and get someone up to play with 25 players for the next game.
  5. In the "old days" players didn't lift much. Players also weren't as big, fast, and strong - all of that leads to more stress on tendons and ligaments, which are critical pieces of a baseball player's anatomy. In addition, very few players made life-changing $, and pre-free agency the last thing an average everyday player wanted to do was sit out a few days or go on the DL with marginal injury that he could play through. Heck, Koufax probably pitched large portions of his career with arm injuries that would certainly require surgery in this day and age. Guys that got injured early in their careers typically didn't have long MLB careers, because they were replaced with someone off the farm back in the old days.
  6. Beginning to be apparent that Biloxi has the potential to have an absolutely loaded roster...nice problem to have. I've never soured on Corey Ray - I think too many people wanted the big arm that was picked right behind him (who now won't be pitching for 1-1.5 years due to injury). The tools and talent are there - reducing K's will continue to be a point of emphasis in his development, but to me he's the reason Harrison was expendable in the Yelich trade. He opened at low A right after being drafted and then injured a knee in fall ball requiring surgery. That didn't stop the Brewers from pushing Ray to A+ last year without having a stretch of professional ball that would instill a level of confidence. Hiura's track was different, opening briefly in Helena and not having to play defense while he raked through low A during his 1st season. Hiura's hit tool has always been rated higher than Ray's, but part of Ray's value comes with defense/athleticism. I'd like nothing more than for Ray to put up a 0.900ish OPS and remind everyone why he was widely considered the best college position player in the 2016 draft.
  7. Not having a roof on that stadium is entirely due to the siting of the ballpark - its footprint is the smallest in all of MLB and its design is very unique in terms of it feeling like a walk-in stadium, and there would be no way to build a structure capable of supporting a retractable or permanent roof on it there. Sure they could have found a different location further away from downtown Minneapolis and shelled out more $ to build a bigger stadium, but in the end part of them getting approval for public $ was tied to locating the stadium where they put it. The Twins' ballpark is widely considered among the best places to catch a game, and having recently moved up here and taken in a few games, I wholeheartedly agree.
  8. seems like in general there are alot of salty teams so early in the season - must be the weather. in weather-related news, likely that 3 of the 4 scheduled Twins/White Sox games in Minneapolis this weekend will need to be made up due to this crazy storm coming into town up here. I know there's always the thought to try and schedule northern teams without domes to play a road trip south to open the season up - but it's impossible to avoid snow/cold issues with early season baseball when a storm blowing 40 and dumping 12-20" of snow happens in mid April.
  9. yes, with today's off day I had to look at how the former Brewer farmhands are doing that were shipped to Miami for Yelich...godawful starts across the board, with Yamamoto still yet to pitch. Too early to draw conclusions, but safe to say Marlins' brass is probably wishing for improvement quickly. When you really stop to think that both Harrison and Diaz would've had to find their way onto Milwaukee's 40 man roster at some point before being subject to next year's Rule 5 draft, their value to the Brewers' organization probably looks alot smaller considering the pile of OF options, what appears to be a sustained opportunity for Villar to play 2B alot, and Hiura likely being their choice for 2B of the future - particularly when the Brewers were adding two MLB OFers to their roster for the next 5 years (1 in Yelich as part of the trade, the other with the pending Cain signing that was in the works as this trade came together).
  10. Despite his struggles, Braun is entirely responsible for 2 of the 7 brewer wins this year...he was also raking towards the end of spring training. Relax.
  11. It took awhile for Santana to find his power stroke last year, too. I agre that he's done a better job at making contact much more frequently. Not worried about extra base hits, or lack tgerof, thus far - they will come in bunches.
  12. I hate bringing relievers in 1/2 way into an inning when you've got a guy pitching well and a 1-run lead. Albers is missing location with his FB alot today...hope we squeak out of here
  13. I think you give Hader a 2nd inning here and don't mess around - you've got an off day tomorrow anyway
  14. lefties have no chance against Hader when he's mixing that slider close to the zone with his fastball. little league-type swings
  15. this ump sucks - Hader getting squeezed big time on low strikes
  16. CC with too quick of a hook - gotta give Guerra a shot to get out of this inning with giving up only 1 or 0 runs. Jennings on and I believe his spot in the order due up next inning...so likely only going to pitch 0.2 innings and leave 9 more outs for the rest of the pen to get
  17. Big DP there - Guerra got squeezed a bit and made a good 2-0 pitch to Wong
