  1. If Betancourt gets on I'd have Nieves lay down a sac bunt
  2. Doesn't help that Milwaukee's starting pitcher could be considered this lineup's 5th best hitter right now.
  3. Why does anyone even throw Castro a strike? Dude swings at just about anything. With the current lineups, if I wasn't a Brewers fan this game would be unwatchable
  4. this is a lineup really sets up well for pitchers to just pitch around anyone competent on the brewers with a bat.
  5. Man, Nieves is so bad he can't even have an AB that leads to the Brewers at least clearing the pitcher's spot in the order
  6. I think the only way to get Betancourt to take a pitch is to send him up there without a bat at this point
  7. Hall also failed after alot more than 240 ABs, and it became clear that Hall's contract was an organizational anchor and the Brewers could get better production for much lower cost in McGehee. McGehee doesn't cost the Brewers near as much as Hall did, but I think if McGehee is still stinking up the joint in early July a move will be made. I hope Melvin learned his lesson from the Hall deal and stays away from extending McGehee long term - every indication is that McGehee should be a year-to-year arbitration player, and would actually be a prime candidate for trading away if he gets hot and the right offer presents itself.
  8. add $1.00 to the price of all beer in the ballpark, and give Prince the extra buck for each beer sold - fans would be able to deal with the "Give your best Brewer a tip" promotion.
  9. been automatic to see the in play, runs beneath Fielder's name when he's hitting lately - dude is a beast right now!
  10. And along with than, anyone not affiliated with ESPN, Fox, the Yankees or Red Sox would absolutely love it.
  11. Having Nieves, Counsell, and Wilson on the roster basically equates to playing with 23 guys - Nieves is pretty much a batting tee since he gives you absolutely nothing offensively, and Counsell/Wilson are burning two roster spots for one role. The bench would look SO much better if Kottaras replaced Nieves and one of Counsell/Wilson was replaced by Green or Gamel...heck, when Saito comes back just go with another bullpen arm.
  12. So you use a right handed specialist? Apparently lefthanded hitters don't hit 1.000 off him - what's the point of burning your only lefty reliever against two average lefthanded bats in the 5th inning of a game that was teetering on becoming a blowout?
  13. Hopefully Yo can get into/through the 6th, and hopefully the offense starts doing something right here
  14. RR biggest problem is hanging on to a player, position in the lineup, bullpen role, etc. too long. That's a catch-22...if he would pull the plug as often on things as some people want he'd have his players' heads spinning wondering what the heck's going on. If you have a good roster you can develop the level of continuity where players settle into their spot in the order or their role in the pen. Bullpen injuries early on and limited options for the bench hurt Roenicke's options somewhat, and sure he could've made better decisions on some specific situations, but I think he's been adequate for a 1st year manager in charge of a good yet thin roster.
  15. It's just tough in tight games to rely on a below average Brewer defense to make all the plays - it would be nice to have more relievers who can get outs without needing a ball to be put in play so often.
  16. It's the soft underbelly of this bullpen, and has been mentioned by several writers lately - aside from Axford, there haven't been many Brewer relievers who can consistently strike guys out. Braddock being back should help that, but relying on guys like Loe to be late inning shutdown guys is asking for trouble. Loe isn't good enough to be considered the "8th inning guy" exclusively. I think the Brewers should play matchups as much as possible through the 8th inning, at least until Saito is back healthy or Braddock starts dominating (hopefully). Regarding playing matchups, until recently Roenicke really hasn't had the arms in the pen to play many matchups.
  17. I hope he gets a nice ovation before the game, and the manager gets booed for taking him out in the 3rd inning after the Brewers pummel him for about 10 runs
  18. or half the high school pitchers taken in the first round who get injured and don't make the majors either - high ceilings are great, but sometimes the difference between high school and college pitchers is that the high schooler hasn't gotten to that first significant arm injury.
  19. He also profiles like Mark Mulder and Andy Pettite
  20. Both players the Brewers drafted were top 10 in most of the mock drafts I saw...why is getting them at #12 and #15 a bad thing again? I'd argue this draft is deep in pitching, and the position player prospects picked right in front of the Brewers were reaches to go where they went. talk high ceiling all we want, Strasburg's and Prior's ceilings were limitless until their arms fell off. would've been nice to add a position player prospect and an arm to the system in round 1, but I'll take two good arms instead of reaching for a position player to make up for one that was already off the board
  21. Because he's an established college pitcher who was the ace of an always strong Texas Longhorn program...I don't know, probably because he isn't still in high school and can throw 100, like many of the other arms picked in front of him that will inevitably get injured and amount to set up men for their organization's AA affiliates. I think the poor showing Arnett has shown so far has led too many on the board to overreact on the selection of a 6' 6" righthander who consistently pitches in the mid-90's with good control. I like the pick.
