  1. The way Turnbow, McClung, and Bush have pitched so far this season, I wouldn't be opposed to putting Bush in the pen, and trading/releasing/secluding/kidnapping McClung and Turnbow from the roster and then call up Pena from AAA. McClung and Turnbow are turning out to be the same power armed-yet bad relievers that their previous teams gave up on, and I think it's getting time for the Brewers to do the same.
  2. So McClung sucks - I wouldn't mind getting nothing in return for him...after all, we acquired him by a trade for Grant Balfour! Prince Fielder is hitting like Tony Gwynn Jr., and looks lost at the plate. It is early, but he's made solid contact on very few pitches so far this season - not like he was crushing the ball all spring, either. If this continues I'm shipping some Omaha steaks to his residence!
  3. And now we watch as Turnbow continues to negate any trade value he had prior to tonight...throw STRIKES!
  4. the guy who led our team in wins last season didn't have a fastball in the 84-86mph range...it's not the same Dave Bush as in 2007 this season, much less Dave Bush circa 2006, when he was routinely 90-92 mph.
  5. here we go again...eventually, all these walks are going to lead to about a 5 run inning
  6. is it me or has the pace of this game slowed down to a drunken crawl?
  7. how many walks has Brewer pitching been allowing recently? This is tough to watch
  8. Apparently Johnny Cueto can silence bats even when he's not pitching
  9. alright, how about we make Fogg throw more than 6 pitches this inning?
  10. great to see all the 3 ball counts....again
  11. I have absolutely no confidence in Bush right now...fastball at 84-86 curve at 68. I hope McClung's ready to go 3 innings
  12. I think Bush is too valuable as a long man/spot starter to trade him when his value's low - as far as his minor league option goes, as soon as Milwaukee puts him on revocable waivers, half the MLB teams are probably going to claim him, so in order for the Brewers to keep him, they would have to keep him on the big league roster for the balance of the season. I'm fine with putting Bush in the pen and using him as the long man - he'd also be ideal to take a start or two from Parra or Villenueva during the course of the season to keep them fresh and keep their innings down. Having a pitcher in the pen with legit starting experience makes altering the rotation due to an injury much easier, too. If Bush becomes the long man, then you have to try and trade McClung for something because he's not clearing waivers - you're not going to get decent value for him unless he's part of a larger package of players...that's where one of the backup outfielders could be included. Mr. Pena down in AAA may also play a significant role in the Brewer bullpen as the season wears on, and I have a feeling that Turnbow's name is also being discussed in possible trades. Injuries/effectiveness may determine exactly how this all shakes out - at least it makes for an interesting discussion/debate right now, because there are so many directions the Brewers could go with their roster towards the end of April.
  13. I always point to Fielder/Howard comparisons as inaccurate - they're similar players, but the difference is Fielder's 4-5 years younger than Howard was during the arby process. Fielder would be able to compare himself to Howard's situation career-wise if the Brewers had kept Sexson around 3-4 more seasons and allowed Fielder to rot away in AAA, which is exactly what the Phillies did to Howard when they had Thome on their roster. Fielder will be eligible for free agency much earlier than Howard was in his career timeline - Miguel Cabrera is the player that Fielder's dollar figures should be patterned after if he takes arbitration season-by-season.
  14. I wanted to start this thread to see what everyone here thinks would be the best options for the Brewers' roster once these two key players return - my thoughts would be: When Yo returns: Move Bush into the pen for use as a long man/spot starter, trade either McClung or Turnbow (since neither has options, I believe) for the best available package of prospects/arms. Heck, trading both and calling up Pena from AAA would be a possibility, too. Trading Bush is also an option, but that would really take away all of the starting pitching "depth" the Brewers thought they had going into spring training this year. I also don't see any chance or need of a 13 man pitching staff, so at least one of the current pitchers on the roster won't be in Milwaukee on May 1st. When Cameron returns: Gwynn or Dillon could be optioned to AAA There is also a scenario that could solve both roster questions at once - trade one of the backup OFs (Gwynn, Gross, Kapler) and one of the relievers out of options (Turnbow, Mota, McClung) to a team in need of outfield/bullpen help. It's a bit early to trade players, but there are already teams scrambling to shore up their rosters, and injuries are going to happen. What keeps sticking in my head as I write this post is that the Brewers are off to a 6-1 start without their #2 starting pitcher and everyday center fielder - depth is a good problem to have!
  15. If shelling out 46 million to Cordero over four years would have prevented Melvin from acquiring Torres, Riske, Mota, and kept the rest of the 07 bullpen relatively intact....I'll take my chances with our current pen and Gagne closing.
  16. If I was Josh Fogg, I would petition Reds' management to put him behind another pitcher in the rotation, or at least not pitch in a series right after the opponent faces Cueto - regardless of how effective Cueto is, Fogg's stuff will look like batting practice when he pitches right after him against the same team.
  17. 1st road start for Cueto, against a team that's swinging the bats pretty well - It's an interesting storyline to this young season, but for the long haul of his rookie season, Dusty Baker as his manager doesn't bode well for his long-term success.
  18. The game thread over at nsbb.com is absolutely priceless right now I really don't even care if the Cubs find a way to win, this has been a hilarious game to watch!
  19. That was a brutal call at 2nd base...and Soriana is really bad right now
  20. Looked more like the guy tried bunting for a hit and there wasn't a squeeze play on - he bunted it right at d Lee, then inexplicably ran right into his tag. either one of the pirates missed a sign, or it was probably the dumbest idea ever - if the squeeze play was on, the runner scores easily
  21. Anyone else notice how the supposedly strong defense the Cubs played last season has turned into drivel?
  22. And the moral of this game - if the Cubs' starter doesn't get it to the 7th inning so Marmol and Wood can finish it off, their bullpen is pretty much bad! I feel for Cub fans when both Marmol and Wood hit the DL because Lou didn't have faith in anyone else to finish games off. Oh, and their #2 starter hasn't pitched like a #2 starter.
  23. Whatever happens this game, I hope Marmol pitches again...Lou's gonna make his arm fall off with how much he's using him so far this year (4 appearances in 6 games, several appearances longer than 1 inning)
  24. And the Pirate organization wonders why their fans don't show up after opening day...they're getting beaten like baby seals by the Cubs right now
  25. We're still at least 2 full weeks away from Gallardo joining the Brewers' rotation...this issue will work itself out - there are teams out there who would probably give up more than they should for a McClung or a Turnbow right now to solidify their bullpen via trade. Bush would be ideal in a long relief role, where he could easily move back to the rotation if one of the youngsters struggles or needs to skip a start to rest their arm.
