  1. I have a week off starting in about three hours, so whether it's the SO and me over the weekend or just me next week, I'm planning to swing by. I have no illusions there will be much available in my style and size, but I want to scout for Christmas gifts for the fam too. (Also Kalle - don't worry, I've got your back.) I won't be surprised if it's a lot of chaff that they've been wanting to move out - which would make me wonder what'll be left for the clubhouse sale that's usually the week after Thanksgiving.
  2. The last major uniform/brand switch was in the 1998/1999 offseason - in time for the originally-planned last year of County Stadium. A big change now would help usher in the planned name change/rebranding for Miller Park. So while WTP's theory isn't a slam-dunk, it is extremely plausible.
  3. This gets me on a tangent! For D E C A D E S my SO has used the word "sangwiches" where the rest of us would say "sandwiches." The only other person I've ever heard say it that way is his brother, so I'm guessing they learned it at home. They grew up in Kenosha with a German/Polish dad and Italian mom. The only place I've ever seen the word sangwich was - of all places - on a food cart at Chase Field when we took an off-season tour there in 2007. Have any of you ever heard "sangwich" in place of "sandwich"?
  4. It's not ideal, but if the dude had access to the whole building (I don't know if he did/does), that's a large job. I don't feel like they're dragging their feet.
  5. Update: The building will be rekeyed starting next week.
  6. Thanks for the well wishes. I think the facilities people are aware of the value of changing the locks. It'd be a big operation, though, and I'll bet they are hoping it needn't come to that. I don't know how much of the building this guy had access to. At least some of the access points in the building are electronically monitored, and any card/fob dude had has surely been deactivated by now. The person to whom the threats were directed seemed reasonably herself when I saw her today, but at no point did I see her without a (large and fairly imposing) maintenance colleague nearby.
  7. We had an incident of vandalism to a women's restroom at my library yesterday. Someone got in the cleaning supply cabinet and threw toilet cleaner all over the walls and ceiling. The room was unusable until a ServPro team came in to clean things up. This morning, we learned that the culprit was a now-fired employee who had been hired in August to clean the 2nd floor of my building. Besides trashing the restroom, he threatened his maintenance supervisor, responded to the vandalism with no remorse, and said he hopes his supervisor dies. His supervisor is a woman and I'm guessing he's in the category of disliking having a woman tell him what to do. So he's gone, but without returning his keys to the building (which he claims to have lost), and he's regarded as a "threat case" by police. [sarcasm]This really makes for a peaceful easy feeling at work.[/sarcasm]
  8. I won't lie. I allowed myself a little time to peruse the @BestFansStLouis Twitter account last night. Someone posts (admittedly cherry picks the worst) STL fan takes - not infrequently unkind things that the account guy manages to screenshot before they're deleted by senders. The one that sticks in my head from last night is that MLB wanted the Nationals to win, so STL had no chance.
  9. However oddly, I would have been okay with the Dodgers winning last night and the rest of this season. That's partly because if they won out they'd have eliminated the Cardinals**...but I remember watching the Kirk Gibson Game 1 moment in 1988 on my dorm room TV during graduate school. I now have to acknowledge that is a long time ago. I hadn't even met my S.O. yet! (not for a few months) That doesn't mean it wasn't tough to see them end the Brewers' 2018 season. Somehow, for me, it was not as tough as 2011. **Yes, clearly my MLB emotional issues tend to involve the Cardinals. I have no reason to pretend otherwise.
  10. Tonight's game might well be the last one I pay much attention to in 2019. I'd be okay with either HOU or TB advancing, though I'd guess the Astros have a better chance at eliminating NYY. (I follow the NL more closely by a long shot, and these takes reflect that.) Somehow I'm not full of anger at the Nationals for eliminating the Brewers this go-round. Now, in part that's in contrast to my ongoing fire-of-a-billion-suns hatred for their NLCS opponent, but I also enjoyed the trip we took to Nationals Park in 2010. Mostly, the less I see of STL and NYY, the better off I am...but the chance of that exact matchup marring our lives is pretty real.
  11. I don't frequent any Friday's restaurants often enough to know if there's a difference between TGI Friday's and Friday's Front Row. On the (handful of) occasions I've been there, the menu looked pretty TGI.
  12. Caitlin Moyer just announced via blog post : https://brewers.mlblogs.com/brewers-announce-new-restaurant-for-2020-season-b516caa63b69 The Brewers announced the same with a video featuring Bob Uecker: So - if you love the TGI Friday's experience at Miller Park, you have until early December to enjoy it.
  13. Lorenzo has THREE KID$. In case you forgot from last month. Nice observation, bork. Little moments like that are part of what keeps me happy to attend games and not just watch/listen to them from home.
  14. Cherry Starr doesn't seem to have changed much (visibly) from my 1970s memories of her.
  15. How would Jim Bowden know? And scoop everyone connected more directly to the Brewers? Mind you, I want to believe.
  16. This stinks for baseball in general. Dude's been at his baseball peak and having that disrupted is bad news for anyone who appreciates the game. Someone on Twitter last night suggested that if the Brewers have a home wild-card or "game 163," Yelich should throw out a ceremonial first pitch if possible. I'm not going to bet the farm on (or against) even a hint of Brewers postseason, but wouldn't that be a cool thing?
  17. For those of you who attend Wisconsin Badgers events with Mike Mahnke at the PA mic (First and 10, WISCONSIN! / RONNNN DAAAAAAYNE / etc.)...when he says "Drive! Home! Safely! Thank you!" at the end, it's in specific tribute to Bob Betts.
  18. Tom Haudricourt tweeted tonight that Robb's last game behind the PA mic will be Sunday (September 8): Having attended about half of the Brewers' home games this season, I can verify that it's been about 1/4 of the games that Robb has called this season. I'm glad we're going tomorrow and sitting near the press box. Maybe I'll make him a sign.
  19. I'm 47 years old and, believe it or not, I've never smoked a cigarette. I can also count on two hands the number of times I have ingested any sort of alcohol in my life. After watching one of my grandmothers pass from lung cancer due to smoking it was easy to never smoke for me. That would be like me and alcohol. My father and his extended family drank so much and messed up enough lives in the process that I decided as a teenager that I wasn't going to do that. And I was in the last group of Wisconsinites to be able to legally drink at age 18. [sarcasm]Look at all the time I've wasted.[/sarcasm] With smoking, as a child I was surrounded by grownups who smoked and while I was never interested in following suit, I didn't realize until I left for college how much the smoke smell permeates E V E R Y T H I N G. That's when I realized my long, long history of sore throat symptoms probably wasn't a coincidence. Both of my siblings have issues with asthma, and I believe growing up amid all that smoke didn't help any of us. Even nowadays, it doesn't take much tobacco smoke to give me a sore throat or a cough.
  20. MH said in the lead post that it was a Kool-Aid stand, so I'm guessing a non-lemonade flavor. Also : That's adorable, Jim.
