  1. Hey! It's tied. Wouldn't this be a great time for the home team to thrill their second biggest crowd of the season? (25,134) C'mon, fellas. Get ahead and stay ahead.
  2. The Brewers have guaranteed themselves an above-.500 April. How's that for sweet? And yes, RoCo, I have had trouble using the board all evening. (It took me a good 20 minutes just to get back in to edit/finish this message after ezboard cut me off. I'd apologize for the repeats if I thought I personally caused them.)
  3. I noticed the same thing. Are you sure we aren't all really sending ghostly posts...from the FUTURE?
  4. I'll give Sharpie his props. Though on TV tonight he looked more like Stubbley.
  5. Thanks for cluing in stodgy 20th-century types like gregmag and me. So glad I wasn't the only one. Now, this was about what? A game?
  6. ...Did Doug Davis have a visit from Captain Morgan and his unweildy magic marker?... I noticed that last night. I'm calling him "Sharpie" Davis until he shaves.
  7. Yeah! That record makes Milwaukee seem downright... competitive. I might just clip the standings from tomorrow's paper and keep them under my pillow for happy baseball dreams. Of course, as was pointed out earlier on this thread, the Brewers started the '02 season 1-0 -- and look where that got them. Ehh, we should get this day to revel.
  8. This was the one thing I read from the Cap Times before shuffling off to Badger basketball Wednesday night (so I didn't get to post sooner). Congratulations on the good press!
  9. So is this the impromptu in-game thread? Scott's got his 99th run. C'mon guys, one more for Po!
  10. Well, I'll say something positive (if trivial). Watching Po take a Mike DeJean pitch out of the yard was priceless. And the Helms blast was monstrous - bounced off the lower platform of Bernie's dugout.
  11. The source of my anti-Cardinal feelings is simple: 1982. (La Russa contributes mightily to the current club, too.)
  12. Let's just be glad. Glad and relieved.
  13. C'mon, Dan, Wisconsin fans are already hurting. Don't make it worse.
  14. I switched back to Fox Sports to see that the score had changed from 6-3 to 6-6, and I didn't even have to ask who gave up those runs. Man, oh man.
  15. ...the total lack of respect for anything that has to do with any other team. Yup. My exposure to very large crowds of other MLB teams' fans is admittedly limited, but being happy for your team's success does not have to mean ripping on every facet of your opponent. I'll actually root for the Cubs, after today, if only to keep the Astros and especially the hated Cardinals out of the postseason (that and my significant other grew up a Cubs fan, the good kind) - but many of the fans who visited this weekend don't deserve a winner. And another thing! (my last rant of the night): NO one violates the no-smoking rules in Miller Park as flagrantly as Cubs fans. I admit that wasn't a majority of the visiting fans, but it's just another irritation (literally).
  16. "That was one of the most horrible games I've ever been to. I can't remember the last time I left a game early, but I was gone after 8 innings this afternoon. I was embarrassed to be a Brewers' fan... not only because the team laid down for the Cubs, but also because the stadium was literally 95% Cubs' fans. And I honestly don't think I'm overestimating that figure. What an absolutely awful day to be a Brewers' fan. It will be a sweet day when it's the Brewers sweeping the Cubs at Wrigley en route to a playoff appearance of our own." So, do I win the martyr of the weekend award for being at both Saturday and Sunday's games? On Saturday I was part of the Kenosha night crowd and that section was not so badly skewed toward Cubs fans. But Sunday...ugh. Our usual section (TB 417) was about 75% Cubs fans, which I think was representative of the rest of the crowd; and between the "visiting" fans' extreme fervor and the speed with which Milwaukee seemed to hand over the game (no, YOU win, we insist)...it was an ugly, ugly day for the home fans. Obnoxious is a good word to describe many Cub fans, in ways already described in the last few game threads. They cheer at *anything* Cub related. Every fly ball is a home run in the making. When Robb Edwards revealed today's attendance and said, "The Brewers and Chicago Cubs thank you for attending today's game," they cheered again upon hearing the name. If someone had announced, "MLB bats are made of *wood*," they'd have thought it was a tribute to Kerry Wood and gone nuts. There is no question that any sellout is healthy for the Brewers' bottom line. But it is embarrassing to achieve it like this. It'll be sweeter when the Brewers clinch a postseason berth with a MP sellout that's actually mostly Brewers fans. At least the weather was great. There, I thought of something nice to say.
  17. Wouldn't this have been a sweet 12th-consecutive win?...but I'll take it as is. Whew.
  18. The Mark Smith fan club just grew by about 17,000.
  19. Oh, please, let Bill Hall play instead of Royce Wednesday night...there's enough potential pain already with Glendon starting.
  20. If you base it on the boos that rained down as the Royals' representatives were introduced, I'd say the odds are decent.
  21. Well, Mr. Wellstone, you might have captured the high point of Wayne's evening with that post. My only other comment for that last .1 of the Reds 6th is "ouch."
  22. The dark side of Turn Back the Clock Night is apparently also the bright, too bright side. The Brewers are playing a bunch of bananas! Ow, my eyes! On the other hand, ALL-STAR Geoff Jenkins looks just fine in Ned's old uniform.
  23. I could do something creative and satisfying with a Mike DeJean all-star poster...
  24. I don't even get out my surprised face anymore when DeJean blows saves. Disgusted face, yes. Why, let's bring him out again for the 10th. That worked so well on Sunday. My office mate at work really isn't into sports. Nonetheless, he has come to know who I mean whenever I say, "you know that pitcher who lets me down?" Wondering if DJ will give me time to finish keying this in before he ends the game...
  25. Yes, it's now a pleasure to watch Jose whiff, especially at the hands of a Brewer. Last year, it was more like a car wreck you don't want to see, yet you can't turn away.
