Yeah, it's really about time to get that sub-.300 OBP out of the 2 spot. Counsell's been weirdly stubborn this year with a lot of things, and this is another one of them. Just about everyone else has moved all over the lineup, but Willy has stayed right there. -
I'm just gonna say this about the Rogers/Hader thing. Rogers is a nice reliever. He's not having a great year this year, but he very well might pitch alright down the stretch. he might out-pitch Hader down the stretch. However, Hader has shown multiple times in his career he's one of the few relievers in MLB that can go multiple months at a time and not allow a run, let alone barely allow a hit. Yes, he's prone to rough stretches once in a while, like he's in now, and that's why his numbers look like they do, but Rogers doesn't have the raw stuff and talent that Hader does. They have similar-ish stat lines..... but I'm not sure that's entirely telling of what you have. IN the end.... it is what it is. We have Rogers now.... Hader is the Padres problem (at the moment) and if he figures things out, and goes on a 2 month stretch where he doesn't allow a run, they'll be happy they pulled the trigger.

Big win tonight. Luckily, the umps didn't call it in the 7th with the 1 run slaughter rule, giving the offense time to get us back into it. Bush looks alright after that first-game hiccup.

I feel like if we brought Prince Fielder or a similar guy back at the tail end of his career, and he was PH'ing in a semi-important game in a playoff race, even if he was hitting like .200-ish, people would be standing up to watch.

Don't like making the last out at 3rd, but Yelich has been perfect this year on steals.

And super long suspensions for both. League would absolutely go nuts on a punishment for that kind of behavior.

Using replay to see someone's hand/foot come off the bag by 3 millimeters for 3/10's of a second can't possibly be within the spirit of the rule. It's one thing if an umpire makes a "bad" call, but there's calls being overturned that can't even be seen with the human eye, and it's time to re-evaluate how replay is used, in all honesty.

I agree with the basic premise of this. I'd definitely like the Brewers to recognize a "go for it" year, and add a big piece of two, but remain competitive yearly. I don't want them to go for the enchilada at the expense of being bad/rebuilding for 4-6-10 years, ala the Royals, as someone else mentioned. The thing is, there are years we don't make a "big" deal, where they may well have tried, and it didn't happen. We always look at what was offered for Soto, Machado, all the big names that get traded for and say "we could have done better", and we don't know what Stearns (or Melvin, before him) offered, or is willing to part with. We also don't know the exact valuation these teams put on their prospects. Maybe the Orioles REALLY wanted the guys they got in the Machado deal, and they didn't want a different offer. It's not as simple as saying "We could have beat THAT offer!" I get it, and I agree... 100%. 2011 was definitely a "go for it" year. A fantastic offense (except Yuni B), a solid rotation top to bottom, a really good bullpen.... they were built to win it all, and then Sean Marcum broke down right before the playoffs and Ron Roenicke made a series of.....questionable decisions in the post-season. It is what it is though. -
With the option at 10 million, it's not even a bad pickup if he keeps hitting. Just kinda concerning how much his defense has dropped off.

Wong's offense has been alright. Wish we could say the same for the defense he's supplied this year.

I'm kinda mystified how Wong's defense just disappeared from one season to the next but yet his offense is still pretty consistently solid/decent.

that's disappointing. one of the rare instances where you'd just as soon have a strikeout and give the next guy a chance, I suppose.

that's proof of concept that perception often doesn't match reality. he's been lights out.

Really happy with the win, but even moreso that they put the hammer down late, and didn't need to use Hader. Nice to have him available tomorrow if needed.
