  1. Davies isnt getting optioned.
  2. No, Schwarber is one of the first guys you'll want to see there. Can't touch the high heat to save his life. Rock, as always, wanted a pitch in the dirt to Schwarber. Brilliant idea, Bill, especially with a runner on 3rd in a 1 run game. Thankfully, high heat is what was brought instead. No surprise that Schroeder would say something this dumb. Listening to the game with my wife and neighbor outside (good lord what a beautiful night) both me and the neighbor said "high heat, don't throw the curve in the dirt with that man on third!" And yet Schroeder, the former player, doesn't get this..... *sigh*
  3. I really am struggling to come to grips with what's going on with Peralta and his spot on the 25 man roster still. Scahill has been bad, a few other guys have been bad, but Peralta has been an outright dumpster fire for most of the season. There's absolutely no justification any sane or reasonable person could come up with for him still being on the team at this point.
  4. To put 1 win into perspective it is the difference between a Domingo Santana and Orlando Arcia this year, it is pretty huge. It is the close to the difference between Aguilar and Villar. It is a very large difference. I understand that, and I'm not downplaying 1 win, but my point was that there's one win difference between the absolute best arm and the absolute worst arm (according to the numbers). Briggs original comment was "The value of a good arm in LF is minimal and the downside of a bad arm is minimal too" which isn't too far off from the truth, unless you have to go to the extreme of comparing the worst guy in the league to the very best guy. Comparing Davis to an average left fielder is probably worth half a win per season, which isn't the end of the world if he's providing a good deal of offense. If you compare the guy that's the very best at X and the very worst at X, you'll obviously, every time, get an extreme difference in the number that you're looking at, and nobody would ever say differently.
  5. I guess it depends on what your definition of minimal is but Khris has registered 3748 innings in LF so far with a -22 Arm per DRS & a -21 Arm per UZR. Yoenis Cespedes has registered 3888 innings in LF over that same time frame with a +27 Arm per DRS & a +22 Arm per UZR. That is about a 5 win swing or about a win per season that can be gained or lost by a LFers arm. To be fair, yoou're talking about one win per season between probably the absolute best arm in baseball in LF vs. the absolute worst arm. Most guys are going to fall somewhere in the middle, and the difference between probably 80% of the guys in MLB is going to be somewhat negligible I'd say.
  6. Listening (or reading, really) what you guys have to say about Schroeder's commentary makes me glad I don't have cable anymore. I can still (if I choose to) catch the games on Foxsportsgo, but I'd rather just follow it on gameday and listen in on the radio instead.
  7. Good point that is often forgotten. Trades are (almost never) "X for Y". Santana was going to play, no matter what. He's going to be a 3 to 4 WAR player, this year. Davis is probably a 2 WAR guy, or thereabouts, even with his power. He's dreadful defensively, and will always carry a low OBP. He's hit .244, .247, .247, and .245 the last 4 years, and doesn't walk a lot. We needed to make room for Domingo and logistically, moving Davis made the absolute most sense.
  8. For what, trying to win? We blew a 7 run lead to the Phillies last week. The Nats themselves scored 7 runs in the 8th inning last night. They're supposed to stop trying to score runs in the 3rd inning because they have a 7 run lead against a team that's 4th in the league in scoring, or risk physical punishment?
  9. Hader, maybe. Woodruff was lined up as a starter before Blazek. He missed a month due to injury. He's currently rehabbing in the minors. Everyone loves Burnes, but the dude just moved up from A ball. You're talking about a big jump. He's also just about at his innings limit.
  10. Beltre is one of the top 5 3rd baseman of all time (IMO of course). 4-5 years ago he was in the "will he get in the hall?" category, now he's probably a 90% first ballot guy. 3000 hits, 450 homers, 1600 RBI (probably 1700 or more by the time he retires), superb defense, and one of the most fun dudes to watch play the game. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/8/9/0/76570890/miggy_beltre_k3dvuih5.gif
  11. "Jacob has been our 8th inning guy." That's the problem Craig. You never deviate from The Book.
  12. Counsels just as dumb with Villar leading off - fast but can't get on base Yeah it's almost August and he's still batting a guy leadoff who's hitting 220 with an on base percentage below 300. I think it's safe to say at this point it's not just a cold snap
  13. Not that I want the club to be in buy mode and mortgage the future for rental pieces like Darvish, but this is a horribly disheartening way to go from buy mode to stand-pat mode. I get what you're saying and I even agree but the method by which it's occurring is gut-wrenching and heart ripping.
  14. I realize people are hot right now but the Forum rules still exists in the game threads. If your post gets something replaced with a bunch of asterisks it's violating the Forum cuss filter and shouldn't be posted. Let's try to remember that going forward guys.
  15. Entirely possible. Even so, braun is a vet and knows better.
  16. I just can't see Santana being traded... nope. Right now you're not trading a middle of the order bat when you're in first place to replace him with a guy who looked extremely overmatched when he came up for his first cup of coffee. That just doesn't make a single bit of sense. I don't care what kind of pitcher they get back.
  17. Isn't Darvish in the last year of a contract, so he would be a 2 month rental? Seems like Phillips would be pretty steep price for that. Would rather have Gray. Yes he is. Part of the reason I'm not really interested in Darvish. If you send anything away of value for Darvish, you better be REALLY sure you're all in at that point, and you better be REALLY sure you have the pieces to compete with Washington, LA, and then probably Houston, or it's kind of a futile gesture. Which when you think about it, already seems like a futile gesture.
