  1. Yup. People are still talking about trading for a starter, or that we didn't trade for a starter, and this is the part that people are overlooking. Sonny Gray just isn't that much better (if at all) than how our guys are performing *right now*. Nelson and Anderson are pitching well (well....... Anderson was), Suter is pitching well, and his peripherals support that he's not just faking it. Garza is pitching well. Davies is pitching well. Starter is the one spot on the team where it just didn't make sense to give up assets to get things that we already had. (Starting pitching) The Brewers (like every team!) have a finite number of prospects and assets, and when they start dealing from those positions of strength to get things they don't really need at this moment in time (starting pitching), then when they need a 2B, or a few relievers, or a starter next year, or a catcher, or SOMETHING, those in demand assets they have now will be something they wish they didn't burn up to get a pitcher they didn't need.
  2. As others have said, this trade definitely hinges on whether or not the Brewers can resign Swarzak. It's not a "loss" if they don't, but in hindsight, it's easy to say it was a wasted effort if they don't make the playoffs. I still feel like this trade would look better if it were framed within the context of another move or two, but they didn't need a starter, and the offense looked great coming into the all star break. Of course, a lot of people predicted Sogard would turn back into the .650 OPS guy he always was, and that's exactly what he's done. We don't know what was asked for Kinsler, so that's a moot point unless something happens from here to the waiver deadline. The A's wanted Brinson for Sonny Gray (no), Darvish is a two month rental (no) and I just honestly don't see Verlander as an actual upgrade over anything we have, plus the huge cost of paying him, and/or what it would cost in prospects to get him.
  3. Scored nine runs in a three-game series and took two of the games. Still need to figure out how to get this offense going and hit with runners in scoring position but absolutely can't complain about picking up a game and taking two of three from the cards
  4. 7 baserunners in 3 innings and the only run we've managed is on a solo homer. Heh...
  5. Fun fact. 34 of Thames 45 rbi have come via HR. Thames is 11 for 73 with a 247 slg with risp.
  6. Someone clue me in. Who are the kansas stars?
  7. I want the 112- 50 Dodgers to square up against the 105 - 57 Astros in the WS. That would be so awesome. And I want it to go 7 games.
  8. When we got Swarzak, I assumed it was done with the intention of getting something else. I don't really *want* the Brewers to sell off the farm to get a starter or a bunch of bullpen guys to chase the Cubs, but the trade just didn't make sense from the standpoint that it just didn't make sense to do in and of itself. It was like getting 2 flat tires and changing one of them, and saying "welp.......good enough!"
  9. Why? Starting pitching is absolutely the very least of the Brewers problems right now. Garza and Anderson are both nearly back, Suter has pitched very well, Nelson has been close to an ace, and Davies has been lights out for nearly two months. Giving up this kind of package for a position that there's absolutely no need makes zero sense whatsoever.
  10. .. and that would have fixed our bullpen problems? Knebel has been great. We needed to replace about 5 guys... not 1. Who knows but Holland would of been closing and Knebel would of been 8th inning guy. They signed a closer, Feliz. Everyone says "Holland" as if it's a 100% given he'd have wanted to come to Milwaukee.
  11. I mean, it could be. But getting Chase Anderson back is a pretty big acquisition. Chase being added back to the mix plus Guerra being replaced is a fairly decent upgrade to the rotation. I actually think the biggest change from the first part of the season to this recent hiccup has been the offensive production at 2B. We all thought Sogard was going to come back to earth but I think the hope was Villar would wake up in time to transfer. The “first inning Brewers” we got accustomed to haven’t been there the 2nd half. The biggest help to the Brewers the rest of the way via trade may very well be Ian Kinsler and not an arm. They could be the "first inning Brewers" if Counsell would stop batting Villar leadoff. That's a leadoff out almost 75% of the time.
  12. The Rockies are 13-20 over their last 33 games. The shoe has dropped and continues to drop. We just haven't taken advantage of it as we went 17-17 over that same time frame. Or..... they are 27 - 24 in june and July. You can split up samples however you want to get the result that favors a desired hypothesis. The Rockies had an 8 game losing streak. Since that streak ended, they're 12 - 11. Every team will go through losing streaks. Maybe the Rockies got theirs out of the way. The Brewers are still stuck in their cold snap.
  13. We keep waiting for that shoe to drop with Colorado, and it's just not happening, and the days are starting to get short, and now we're 5 1/2 games behind them. That's by no means an insurmountable lead, but a lot of people keep saying the Rockies don't have the pitching to hang, they have a tough schedule, they don't hit away from Coors (all true!), but they keep winning enough to stay ahead of the Brewers by a fairly comfortable margin so far. We went 12 - 13 in July, the Rocks went 12 - 12. We'll see where it goes from here.
  14. They pitched really well in that series. I know people are down on the bullpen, but even the pitch Hughes gave up the homerun to Heyward on was not a bad pitch. Not a pitch you'd expect someone to go down and golf out of the park at least. And that 2 run rally in the game yesterday was a chopper, a 50 foot roller that Contreras nubbed, and what can you do? The pitching in that series was really solid, and Hader showed he can handle big situations.
  15. You're not new here, why the shock to what is said in an IGT?! I'm not shocked at all. Just a response to what FVBF said about the general state of comments in the IGT's
  16. IGT should be avoided at all costs if you dont want to see minute by minute emotional knee jerk response posts. Just sayin...
  17. The starting pitching has been fine, aside from Guerra. Anderson and Garza will both be back soon and that problem will be solved. Even if (big if) we are still entertaining the option of fighting for a playoff spot the bullpen is the area of most need and figuring out how to get Hader more usage there can only help.
  18. How does everyone know it was pressure and they arent "mentally tough?" How do people know this and just state it factually? In 162 games teams have bad patches and sometimes it happens in big series. Invariably when it does, the armchair qbs seem to know without a doubt that these guys lack toughness or some magic mental ability to want to win.
  19. Slumps happen. The offense has avoided any prolongued slump all year long. This is just happening at a bad time. Its not an indication of anything other than theyre in a slump.
  20. Is it necessary to make a post about every perceived incorrect pitch called?
  21. He is exactly what he has always been. A slap hitting utility guy who will ops aroynd .650 or so.
