  1. Signed to a minor league deal. If there's a thread, it's probably in the minors forum. Also, he was really bad last year. Phillies had to have *somebody* close.
  2. What a waste of talent. Sad, really.
  3. Well..... I'm not confident that Guerra is *hurt* so much as he's been through the league a few times and most of the guys have seen him now and are starting to figure him out. I just don't see Guerra as being a guy who can be relied on every 5 days. Woodruff, when he's healthy? Maybe even Suter can get 8 or 10 starts before teams start figuring him out (but that's not a "move" per se, as he's already on the team). Wang seems like a logical choice to at least give a shot at this point. I'm not going to be upset if they don't. It seems like the offense doesn't really need to be tinkered with much. Villar is scuffling, but it seems like Counsell still wants to give him the opportunity to work through this and get some ab's.
  4. This thread is like opposite of our game threads, where our bullpen is the alltime worst bullpen ever, all of our hitters are terrible with two strikes or with a man on third, and Counsell is the worst manager ever, and never makes good decisions. Sometimes the optimism in here rides a bit *too* high, but it's occasionally necessary after dipping one's toes into the game threads at times.
  5. He gave up a dinger to Aaron Judge. Im gonna give him a pass on that one. He's missing a lot of bats tonight.
  6. Aside from the division standings, the Brewers are now just 2 games behind the Rockies now for the potential 2nd wild card spot, and surprisingly, 3 1/2 games behind the Nats for the 2nd seed in the National League.
  7. I honestly wonder how much the Brewers being 8 games over has affected DS's strategy for moving players this year. I suspect (though I certainly could be wrong!) that he came into the year expecting another season of 70-75 wins, and he was possibly planning on moving Garza, maybe Anderson, and perhaps Santana and Broxton even, maybe Braun, if he could find a taker. Now they're winning, everyone is pretty much playing well (except Villar), and we have a logjam of players, there's no place to put the young guys like Phillips, Brinson, etc, and there's no justification for trading away guys like Garza, Santana, etc, etc in the middle of a playoff race. Just something to toss around...
  8. viewtopic.php?f=66&t=35231 Thread in the trade rumors forum that pretty much is going over this right now.
  9. Garza was playing with fire with all those baserunners in the early innings. Nice to see him get through six with no runs across. Also it definitely seems like the higher the division lead gets the more negativity that creeps into these game threads. Just an observation...
  10. I'm sure he'll hit a cold snap again at some point, but he's definitely quieted the folks that thought he couldn't hit at the big league level. Right now he's at a .750 OPS and knocking a fair amount of XBH's. (and should probably be a gold glove candidate). If he finishes the season at a .750 OPS with 40 - 45 XBH's and keeps playing the level of defense he is right now, he's already a star.
  11. I don't think the "young talent acquisition phase" is ever on hold. I think if there's ever a chance to add young, quality, controllable players, Stearns is the type of GM who's going to do it. I think we're in a position to add quality veteran players to help win right now, but that doesn't automatically put the "add young talent" on hold. By no means do these things have to be mutually exclusive.
  12. Cordell is not going to play ss for the Brewers...
  13. Padres are dead last in the NL in scoring and have scored 12 runs in 2 games against our pitching staff. I know you can't just replace the entire bullpen in one day...... academically I know this, but I'm so tired of having this feeling of dread every single day when the game gets turned over to the pen.
  14. Looked like the LF had to pull up at the last second to avoid a collision with the CF. I'm not saying he for sure would have caught the ball, but he would have possibly had a shot at it. He definitely gave the CF a mean-mug after the ball went over the fence there.
  15. When Broxton is off, he's one of the worst hitters in the league. When he's hot, he's like "player of the month" on fire.
  16. Any team in MLB can beat any other team. Shouldn't ever assume any game is an auto-win. Remember, this Padres team swept the Cubs not too long ago.
  17. the Pads are using three rule 5 picks pretty regularly. 21 year old Allen Cordoba was playing in rookie league ball last year, and is now getting regular playing time for the Pads, and is actually playing alright, considering the jump. Hitting .271 with a .694 OPS. I'm sure you wouldn't give regular starts to a guy like that if you were even halfway serious about contending, but for a guy jumping at age 20 from rookie league right to the bigs, that's pretty impressive.
  18. It doesn't matter what the Cubs did in 2016. Last year's standings, results, statistics, projections, whatever, have nothing to do with what happens this year.
  19. The Brewers.
