  1. That's you being a 'realist'? Most people would have a hard time saying that with a straight face, yet claim to say it while being a 'realist'. Most prognosticators had the Brewers as a darkhorse wild card candidate at best coming into the season, and I think that's still probably about right. We have a decent team that got off to a ridiculously hot start based on outstanding pitching, and a bullpen that's been out-of-it's mind good for a month and a half.
  2. G-Kot has a nice slash line going right now. .750/2.667/3.417. He should pretty much call it quits right there.
  3. I'm one of the biggest and most consistent Weeks supporters on this board. I fail to see how inferring that he might rightfully be "irked" about the Brewers screwing him out of $11 million is "Weeks-bashing" The Brewers didn't 'screw' him out of anything. They are under no contractual obligation to provide him a specific number of at bats. He agreed to the stipulation that vests his 2015 option. If he's not playing good enough to earn playing time, why put him on the field? Yes, he's had a few hits the last few days, and the result is he has raised his OPS over .730, which is almost completely driven by batting average. (same as Scooter Gennett, actually). Given Week's small sample at this point, any hot or cold streak is going to swing his numbers wildly in any direction. An 0-fer in 2 straight days (which he is more than capable of) will drop his OPS back below .700. The larger body of work that he's put forth for the bulk of the last 2 years, aside from these 50 plate appearances is that he's showing eroding skills at the plate. I'm not sold on Gennett (far from it, actually), but Rickie's bad past few years, coupled with his very poor fielding don't show me why the team should feel obligated to play him daily just for the sake of providing him another big payday.
  4. Hmm..... http://www.quickmeme.com/img/12/12710061ec1b8ec6b7fa09807a2b4f6c7c208950ddab1952d95037fcb0c754fc.jpg
  5. Overbay didn't strike out with a man on third and less than 2 outs. I'm honestly (no sarcasm) surprised.
  6. Weeks is a sunk cost, and really all he's doing is sucking up a roster spot because he can ONLY play 2nd base and pinch hit. If we're truly committed to playing Gennett at 2nd base, paying some, most, or even almost all of Weeks' salary in order to free up a roster spot to make this bench a bit more versatile shouldn't be a concern. We're paying him regardless, and if we can pay him, get something useful in return, AND get someone who can play more than JUST 2nd base, such a move should be considered.
  7. Bill: "Beltran is a much better left handed hitter than right handed". Yes. This season, in a very small sample size. Over his career, he's almost identical from both sides of the plate. I don't expect Bill to know that though.
  8. Terrible. I'm almost always in the 'strikeouts don't matter' camp.....but ye gods, those were two of the most awful at bats I have seen this year.
  9. You know what would be awesome in this series? If we would NOT strike out with a guy on third and less than two outs at some point.
  10. Time to just cut him. He's a sunk cost anyways.
  11. Not that there's a good replacement option, but how long does Rami stay at cleanup? As a few others have said, I've long been an advocate of hitting Braun 2nd as well.
  12. Let's find out. Last season May was doomed due to an entire month of awful pitching. So now we have Pitching and we don't have the offense? Pitching wins championships no? So we should be better off regardless how poor we remain offensively....Right? Is there any empirical evidence that teams that are slanted more towards pitching than hitting are more likely to win? Let's say team A scores 100 more runs than they allow, while scoring 750, and allowing 650, and team B scores 100 more runs than they allow, while scoring 675, and allowing 575. Is there ANY evidence that says team B is 'more' championship worthy??
  13. Roenicke is like a dumb kid with a "Don't touch this Button" button in the dugout. Schafer was out at 2nd by about 87 feet.
  14. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8077 Found it. This article is awesome, and outlines the setup of the Shouse/Burrell/Howard situation perfectly.
  15. That used to be my signature. But yeah......there's no rational explanation for what was going through his head there.
  16. So he's either going to be a bust, or win multiple Cy Young's. Not leaving a lot of middle ground there.
  17. "Francisco"...... That's fun to say. "francisco......francisco........Francisco."
  18. I'm sorry, I don't say posts are 'absurd' very often, but saying a division race is over in April is absurd. Assuming the Brewers sweep the Cardinals, they'll be up 7 1/2 games on April 30th. http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/standings.cgi?date=1951-08-13 This is not proof that big leagues WILL get lost, but that they can, and do.
  19. Please tell me this is tongue-in-cheek. In 2007 we started 24-10, led the division by I think 8 1/2 games in June, and ended up barely finishing .500 as the Cubs won the division. Not saying that's what will happen again but saying a race can be over by the end of April is ridiculously underestimating how long the season this really is. Not tongue in cheek. I couldn't be more serious. pretty safe to assume that won't happen again. Won't and can't are two very different things.
  20. Nice Cheers reference. Padres also have one MVP and one ROY in their history, both with four-syllable last names... Nice question, that would be Caminiti with the MVP 1996, and I will go with Benito Santiago with the ROY? He should have to give that MVP back
  21. Wasn't worried about Davis' lack of HR's. I knew they'd start showing up sooner or later.
