  1. I've wondered that many times this year. The defensive setup doesn't seem to jive with the plan the catcher/pitcher have for each batter.
  2. THat looked like a bad hop, but Rickie has to keep his eye on the ball and make that play.
  3. I wouldn't complain about him if the team sucked, because then I wouldn't be concerned about missing the playoffs by a few games while a negative WAR player plays every day.
  4. I was middle of the road on Suppan. Guys like him get those contracts, like it or not. It's not Suppan's fault he was grossly overpaid. He was what he was, and apparently Melvin was ok with paying that money based on an NLCS MVP. Suppan at least had SOME value his first 2 seasons.
  5. No thanks. McClouth is an expensive reclamation project that I just don't see bouncing back.
  6. I just don't get all the "there's no one better so stop complaining" stuff from the Betencourt defenders. So what if there's no one better? (actually, there HAS to be, but let's just say there isn't). I don't see the point in saying 'quit complaining'. The guy sucks. He's sucked for 7 years, and he sucks this year. Even if he gets back to his career norms, he's still going to suck. Even if he hits .270, he'll OBP less than .300, and he's got very little power (ONE year of 10+ homers does not a power hitter make). I'm NOT going to say "I'll give him 150 at bats to turn it around." He sucks. I don't know how many more statistical measurements, scout reports, and firsthand descriptions it will take to get that through. Some don't want to boo the guy. Some won't cheer the guy. It is what it is, and as was said in another thread, you can't tell someone else how to be a fan.
  7. But the bolded thing is everyone ELSES point. Nothing he does is 'complimentary'. He's a below average defender, and a below average offensive player. Even if he bounces back and hits his career norms, he's still below average. There's no advantage to having any certain 'type' of player who compiles his stats in any different way. He's below average in the field, and at the bat. He sucks. Nobody said he's the sole problem, but he's a BIG problem, because he's barely above replacement level, and a team hoping to contend shouldn't be fielding guys like that in their starting lineup.
  8. Movie night last night. From Paris With Love. Straightforward action flick with very little deviation from the formula. Travolta kicks a lot of ass, does some drugs, and swears a lot. It does keep you entertained if this is what you're looking for, so I can't downgrade it for having lame dialogue and lots of explosions. 7/10 Toy Story 3 Disney/Pixar hits this one outta the park. I didn't care for TS2.....it just didn't 'pop' or have a point that really drove home for me. TS3 does both of those, and does it well. Great story here. This and Up are (IMO of course) Disney/Pixars finest works. 9/10 Older film, The Machinist. Christian Bale is fantastic in this one. The physical transformation is unbelieveable. It's just too bad the story isn't that clever. I figured out about half way through that "Ivan" was himself, and was some sort of psycho cover up for something terrible he had done. The problem here is that there just aren't any clues. When the reveal is finally given, it's not one of those 'aha!' moments as the clues they gave to it were just nothing but tiny fragments of what it might be leading to. A clever thriller gives you just enough that a really solid thinker might figure it out just before the reveal, but no such clues existed in this one. It made sense, it wasn't full of holes, it just wasn't smartly written, IMO. Still, it kept me watching, and Bale did a great job. 6/10
  9. It's NOT these 13 games that have shown Betencourt is awful. It's the 3000 at bats he's piled up in the previous 7 years that show he's awful. Expecting that to somehow change in the next several weeks is not the same as expecting Weeks and McGehee to revert to their career norms.
  10. Gomez is taking the approach that if he tries to bunt, he'll look like he's adjusted his plate approach. He hasn't. He still offers at just about everything, he has absolutely NO strike zone recognition, and .........eh, I'm not gonna waste my typing tendons on the guy. He sucks. He always has, he always will.
  11. ONE! TWO! THREE Strikes yer out! Good lord, Gomez sucks. I have nothing more to add.
  12. I'm at work answering the phone today. I'll just take it out on my callers.
  13. I know. I just don't want to have a reason to not be mad at Roenicke for Gomez getting playing time. I can't be mad if there's no one to blame.
  14. I guess there was a credible reason.Booo. I'd rather have a hurt Morgan than a healthy Gomez. Curse you for trying to rationalize my anger.
  15. I'm about ready to pull my hair out. There's no credible reason, nothing at all that would suggest Gomez should be playing vs. righties while Morgan sits on the bench. It's too bad this team didn't have someone who was better suited for batting 2nd............. Hm.......
  16. Is it too early to start a 'Fire Roenicke' thread? Or website? Seriously, this is ridiculous. It's great and all that his players 'like' him, but his decision making in the early going just doesn't make one lick of sense. Does Gomez have something on the guy that we don't know about? At least he's not batting second. Wasn't a fan of this hiring. He's proving to me why I wasn't. Go Brewers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  17. This is the type of loss you look at when you miss the playoffs by 2 games. The Nats did NOTHING to win that game. The Brewers gave it away with piss poor defense and situational managing. Completely understandable for people to be irrational and upset after a loss like this. Even if they did have a flawless inning on defense, that game was not theirs. They still needed to score at some point and then hold the Nats as well. It does suck but every team can look back at games throughout the year and say "what if?". There is no need to ruin a night or a weekend on it, especially when they get another chance to get a win tomorrow barring bad weather. The 162 games is the beauty of baseball, you almost always get a chance to redeem yourself tomorrow. That would be comforting if I didn't think this type of game WILL happen again to this team. Roenicke seems to love micro-managing, but some of the stuff just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

  19. What a way to lose a game. Apparently our pitchers and infielders need to go to a few clinics on 'holding runners close to the bag'.
  20. That's not a bad risk move by Gomez. 2 out, try to get into scoring position. That took an absolutely perfect throw to get him. I hate the guy as much as anyone, but that wasn't a completely stupid attempt at 2nd there. That was a great throw.
  21. WHY was Morgan not hitting for Almonte there? For that matter, why are we still putting a lineup out with 4 guys who shouldn't be on a big league roster? How predictable was Betencourt swinging at something that he wouldn't be able to reach with a 3' long bat?
  22. They must have SOME data to back this up?I'm sure they do. But like I said, unless the guy is an absolute extreme pull hitter, I'm not a fan of the shift. I'm not a guy that will say "it's been being done this way for 130 years blah blah blah!" but at the same time, I think the shift is something that would have caught on more than it has if it had a lot of merit to it. I don't like it, I'm not a fan. My comments are probably mostly aesthetical.......I just don't like the shift.
