  1. Someone please tell Schroeder that a guy walking 8 per 9 innings is not "stubborn" he has "control issues".
  2. In my opinion, streaky is streaky. If you're hitting for crap in the first half, you're costing your team games, which are just as important to win as games in the 2nd half. They say the magic number for the WC is 90 wins, and every win you get, whether it's on opening day or September 30th, counts the same.
  3. However, Carlos has not been a streaky player throughout his career like Jenkins has. I think Carlos will play much better throughout this entire season, especially now that he's faced NL pitchers for an entire season. Carlos' streakiness last year was already well documented. In 2004 he had a .821 OPS pre-all star, and a .975 OPS post all star. In 2003 he had a .756 OPS pre all star, and a .919 OPS post all star. In 2002 he had a .772 OPS pre-all star, and a .928 OPS post all star. I'd say the assertation that he's not a streaky hitter is pretty much statistically false. Granted he had better halves in the 2nd half, but last year he had a far worse half in the 2nd half. The only point I'm trying to illustrate however, is that Lee IS just as streaky as any other hitter out there. Not to mention he is in his prime of his career, and I think all can agree Jenkins is starting to get to the downside of his. Jenkins turns 32 in July. Carlos turns 30 in June. 2 years is a difference, but it's not a huge difference. EDIT: I'm not saying I prefer Jenks over Carlos. I'm simply pointing out some statistical facts.
  4. My opinion is that money can be better spent on talent who will do more throughout the entire season to warrant that pay. Pay Carlos Lee and bring in another SP. The same Carlos Lee that crapped out in the 2nd half last year? I just find it odd that as you're saying you want a guy who will hit all year, you say "pay Carlos Lee" in the same sentence, when after the all star break last year he hit .262 with 10 homers and a .746 OPS.
  5. RoCoBrewfan, Sorry, I was not directing my comment at you. I was just responding to many of the previous posts. I don't want you to think that I was attacking you. I certainly did not feel like that was an "attack" post, it was a legitimate question, in all honesty.
  6. Please, do not make me sound dumb here by misconstruing my words. I asked if he was the Right Fielder that would be able to lead us into the playoffs at whatever point that may be? Why does the rightfielder need to "lead them to the playoffs"? I'm not sure what I'm missing here. I expect by the end of the year, Jenks will probably be around .275-.285, with 25 homers, and 90 some RBI. Probably an OPS of .800 or above, with 130 or so K's. Is that overpaid at 8 mil? It may or may not be. But he's not going to keep us out of the playoffs at that rate of production.
  7. I'll repeat again that I love Jenkins before I say this, but everyone keeps bringing up Jenkins 3-run double yesterday and saying he's clutch. This is only one example and I cannot think of very many more in recent memory. I was simply responding to a poster who said he hasn't been clutch at all lately.
  8. I don't think any ONE player is going to "carry us to the playoff". Each batter can only bat 4-5 times a game. And Jenkins did hit a 3 run double with 2 outs to put them ahead yesterday, which I consider pretty clutch.
  9. I find it tough to blame the offense when they put 8 runs on the board. Yeah they failed in "this situation" and "that situation", but 8 runs should be enough to win.
  10. What does it matter to save your best guy if you don't get that far?
  11. Hendrickson's shut down 8 in a row after the rocky first inning.
  12. I don't want to see Turnbow burnt like toast either, but when the game is on the line, I don't like the arbitrary decision that you *can't* use your best reliever because the score dictates that it's not his time to come in. I don't know if it would have been the best move to bring in Turnbow, but I'd at least like to know that if it IS the best move, that's what'll be done. And I don't have a world of faith in Wise right now either.
  13. I think it's better to have him take the majority of the starts at 3B or CF and that would allow the young kids to play as much as possible and still have William Hall in that lineup creating havoc I agree. I'd rather see Clark getting benched than Weeks or Hardy.
  14. They called it a hit. And no SS in the world would have thrown out Furcal had that ball even been fielded cleanly.
  15. Man, that J.J. sucks. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Typing it in all caps doesn't make it more true. Hardy's going to be just fine.
  17. Ok, that was a pretty rotten call. That was 3-4 inches off the outside corner.
  18. Anyone else think this ump has dinner reservations for about 10:30 pst? Lehr can't get a call to save his life. He's had a very low zone all night. Seems like belt to mid shin is a strike, and there's no inside corner to speak of. Can't complain too much, because it's been that way for both sides.
  19. Am I the only one wishing Hall would have been pinch hitting there? I assure you, you're not.
  20. I'm proclaiming myself the captain of the Bench Brady Club. I don't care that he's taking a few walks in front of the pitcher's spot, he's a black hole at the bottom of the order right now.
  21. Where and when are the games played? Yeah, I live in Rock County, but I drove to Waukesha to play softball for 2 years. I'm silly like that.
  22. I'd rather see them with 8-9-10 LOB and winning the game that not getting runners. They're hitting well with RISP. They're carrying a good team OBP. It stands to reason that when you get more men on, you're going to leave more on. Part of the reason I think LOB is kind of a subjective stat.
  23. I know I said it yesterday, but I'll say it again. Brady should be the guy getting benched to get Hall playing time, not Rickie or JJ. Yeah, yeah, yeah, let him play through it, blah blah blah. He's a black hole right now.
  24. Jenkins really bailed out the Cubs there. Guy struggling to throw strikes, take a few, make him come at you with something to hit.
