  1. I'm thinking about not watching/listening to another game 'till I see Gamel 3B and Escobar SS, in the lineup at the same time. It would be nice to also see Rivera C, in there, but I'm not going to push it, because I do still enjoy listening to Uke and want to listen to at least one more game this year. The season is over, Macha/Melvin!! Play the kids!!
  2. I don't think Gamel being switched out in the 8th is why we lost today, and I don't believe Gamel not being played enough in June or Hardy playing now is why this team is gonna be sub-.500. I'm not 100% on-board with any of these lineup decisions, but I'd be surprised if Macha got canned because of them. I don't believe anyone is saying that. I don't care what their record ends up being, and I didn't think they were a playoff team in February. If they didn't know it before, they have to know it now, that they have no chance at the playoffs. So, play the kids. Play the future.
  3. Can we finally now start seeing Escobar, Gamel, and Rivera, in the lineup every day? At least 5/7. Please. And no more Patterson. Please! And don't feed me this "since we are playing playoff teams, we have to put our best players out there", the "integrity of the game", "still have to play to win" garbage. You can't sell me Kendall/Hardy/Counsell is that much better than Rivera/Escobar/Gamel. Please!!!
  4. I just don't understand it. Why? It makes no sense at all. Why not put Gerut in CF? Give him some regular playing time again, to see if he can regain his 2008 form? Gerut was pretty good in 2008 with regular playing time. Are they actually giving him an audition for the CF job next year? If they are, I don't know what to say, that's just sad. Because that's the only reason I can possibly think of for having him in the lineup at all. Heck, I was never a TGJ fan, but I'd rather see him out there right now over this guy.
  5. I have no idea why this guy and his career .295 OBP is leading off for any MLB club.
  6. Hazel Mae loved it. That's good enough for me. Some people (Cards fans and old grumpy "respect the game" men) need to get over it.
  7. First you need guys who can run. With Weeks and Hart not in the lineup, who would you want running? Escobar definitely. Lopez, I believe still has that leg issue. Cameron, maybe. But I don't believe he's ever been a big base stealer. Braun is probably the only other one, and we know why they don't want him giving up outs on the bases. There isn't anyone else playing everyday on the team right now I would want to run.
  8. I'll just repost what I put in the other thread: "I don't really know why there is still discussion about this anyway. Escobar is cheaper and one of the top prospects in all of the minors. We're not talking about the Yankees, Angels, Cubs, or Red Sox, who can pay players whatever they want. Those teams would have the choice to shop both players around and take the best deal. This is the Brewers. They have to go with the cheaper option in Escobar, and hope they can get a solid #3 starter for Hardy."
  9. I hate Cardinals fans more than Cubs fans. Cub fans are just drunk idiots. Cards fans are pompous jack-asses, who think no one knows the game better than them. I can't believe I was actually rooting for them in the last WS they were in, because they were in the Brewers division. Never again.
  10. "Gerut starting against a lefty?" I would have to guess that something is wrong with Cameron.
  11. "So it's going to be about 2:1 ratio for JJ starting and Escobar starting we're seeing." Actually it looks like it's going to be 2:2. Hardy started his first two days back, then Escobar two. Yesterday was Hardy's 1st, today is his 2nd. I suspect we see Escobar in the next game. I have two tickets for today's game. No one to go with, which doesn't really matter. I would usually go alone in this case. But I wanted to see Escobar again. So I'm probably saying home. That pitching matchup doesn't really excite me either. Course I would like to see Sandoval again. Love that guy.
  12. "That's why I have no idea why the Brewers killed his trade value." He killed his own trade value by stinking it up at the plate. The Brewers may have salvaged some of it by adding on that extra year of service time.
  13. You can't really compare Hardy and Escobar as hitters, and say one is better than the other. They are completely different. Escobar is not going to hit 20+ HRs a year, but he will probably steal 40 to 50 bases for you. And very well could develop into a leadoff hitter for this team. Why couldn't he? If he can, then I would say he's a more valuable hitter (not nessessarily a better hitter) for this team, over just another 20+ HR guy with an OBP in the low .300's. Which they seem to have an abundance of those. Isn't that what a lot of people complain about anyway? Too many power hitters, not enough guys who get on base and can run? Who is to say at this point that Escobar can't add those things to this team? After leading off in the minors, I'm sure Escobar expects himself to eventually be able to do that in the majors.
  14. I don't know, sounds like he just made one of those spectacular plays we've been told he's been making in the Minors for quite some time. I believe everyone, even the players, were talking about the plays Escobar was making in spring training. I don't really know why there is still discussion about this anyway. Escobar is cheaper and one of the top prospects in all of the minors. We're not talking about the Yankees, Angels, Cubs, or Red Sox, who can pay players whatever they want. Those teams would have the choice to shop both players around and take the best deal. This is the Brewers. They have to go with the cheaper option in Escobar, and hope they can get a solid #3 starter for Hardy.
  15. If you think the pitching was bad this year, it will be worse next year with a Weeks or Hart in CF. Sure Hart has the speed, so you would think he could play CF, but he never gets a good jump on the ball. Not a fan of putting Weeks out there either. He was looking really good at 2B with the help of Randolph. You make him learn a new position on the fly, and you could mess with his offense. Bring Cameron back. I hope he retires as a Brewer.
  16. Bernard Gilkey = Former Brewer, no? No.
  17. I don't believe a week or two's worth of hot hitting from Hardy is going to increase his trade value that much. There are teams out there that will look at that extra year of service time + his 2007-08 production, and make a trade based upon that. They will look at 2009 and believe they will be able to help him figure out whatever went wrong this year. The whole "change of scenery" deal. So play Escobar five times a week and Hardy two times. Escobar is the future and his future is now. Get him as much playing time as you can right now, so he can be that much better next year when he becomes the Brewers everyday SS.
  18. Blame Melvin for the Hardy situation? Essentially blaming Melvin for Hardy forgetting how to hit the ball? I don't understand that at all. So Hardy is so fragile, he couldn't hit because he was worrying about Escobar taking his job? Which I really doubt that he was, but let's just say he was. If that was the case, then I don't think I want a player that mentally insecure of his own abilities on my team in the first place. Hardy lost something this year. Whatever that was, I hope he figures it out for his own sake. But he's going to have to do that on another team. Because like it or not, Escobar is here to stay. If for no other reason than he's something like $4M cheaper. (That's $4M they can hopefully spend on pitching.) It's a bonus that he's one of the top prospects in baseball.
  19. Hardy's stats in AAA: .246/.279/415/.695 Hardy has lost something, maybe he can find it in the off season, and help out a different team next year. Escobar was always the future at SS, and Hardy was going to be traded. If for no other reason than teams like the Brewers have to go with the cheaper option. They are lucky in this case that Escobar is pretty darn good. If this Brewers top, or #2 prospect played any other position, Hardy would still be up here, stinking up the park. It sucks for him that this hot shot prospect happens to play SS. "We're runnin' a business here." This is not kids soccer where we care about hurting people's feelings and everyone has to get a ribbon.
  20. I don't understand this either: "And I think his down year is directly related to the way the Brewers management has dealt with Hardy." He was starting. They gave him more than enough time in the Majors to work out of his slump. If they didn't have a young, hot shot, cheaper, top prospect SS in the minors to bring up, they probably wouldn't have sent him down. I don't see where they have treated him poorly, but then again, this is my first year watching the Brewers. And I wasn't specifically saying Hardy IS a flash in the pan, just brought up the question of maybe.
  21. I'm neither enjoying the season, nor complaining about it. I didn't expect this team to make the playoffs from the start. So I guess I've been sort of in the middle. I still have the game on the TV or radio, but I'm doing other things this year rather than watching every inning. Like playing PC Replay Baseball. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I don't think there is "no-way" the Brewers can resign Prince, even with Bor-ass as his agent. Look at the CC deal. If you believed him or not, Melvin said they will pay the big money for a special player. Prince is becoming, if he's not there already, one of those special players. Don't trade Prince. I don't think a team will give you a #1 or #2 starter for just him alone anyway. Pitching is becoming way too valuable and scarce.
  23. I'm surprised they got anything for Hall. Look at his stats the last three years. In this trade... Anything > nothing So, good trade.
  24. Wow I like the last couple of posts. I was just about to post something along those lines. Look around the league, what team out there isn't looking for more pitching? "Trade Hart for some pitching." What do you think a team is going to give you for Hart? We all remember what he did in September last year. Was that because he got tired down the stretch or because he couldn't handle the pressure of a pennant race? Either way, what do you think a team is going to give you for that? They sure aren't going to hand over their #2 starter. Besides how can we sit here and say Melvin didn't try to shop Hardy or Hart around for some pitching? I don't understand why people think it's just so easy to go out and trade for some pitching.
