  1. Right now, it's looking like a loss. Counsell booting the DP grounder... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif -- EDIT: Got the DP right this time. Now, play for a run, get this over with.
  2. But extra innings... This will put a lot of pressure on the bullpen.
  3. Keep Brooks around. "Garbage" pitcher, good pinch-hitter, can back up both corner OF positions and 1B...
  4. Scotty kills them with the bat, so they walk him three times today... And he promptly steals two bases. Effectively THREE doubles today (one with the bat, two due to steals). And all he cost was $20,000... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. DHonks Too bad the Crew couldn't have talked them into a Webb-Counsell-Overbay-Moeller-Capuano-de la Rosa package...
  6. igor67 I agree. The interesting thing is that if the Brewers play the prospect card right (and if they all pan out), JJ Hardy might be the #7 hitter on the club.
  7. Krynzel drawing WALKS and hitting .323? Krynzel NOT going fishing and trying to jack a pitch deep? Whoa... Krynzel or Podsednik will be a tough call if this keeps up... I like having these problems. The only problem is that when the Brewers trade a guy, he ususally becomes a Brewer-killer.
  8. igor67 Obermueller's been okay, I think. The problem Sunday came from the fact he was called on with pretty short notice after Capuano pulled up lame in the third. But Kinney needs to go. ASAP.
  9. DHonks You summed it all up there. terrible command. terrible mentality. Great stuff. That's been what I thought about Kinney for a while. He does fine with nobody on, but once runners get on, things will usually snowball into a big inning. On the other hand, while Wayne Franklin never had any of the "stuff" and his command could be described as "questionable" at times, he had the mentality in spades, and that mentality often got him out of trouble he got himself into.
  10. Told you all... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  11. Fine - give me a better optuion to be the Brewers' leadoff hitter than Podsednik. Otherwise, we need to deal with his defense as it is.
  12. Can't even give Doug Davis ONE run... Nice rebound by Doug, though. Too bad that he may end up with the loss when he only gave up one run through six innings.
  13. Doug will be fine. Just gotta get a bunch of runs on the board.
  14. Where is this city called Redding?
  15. SoCalBrewfan Well, I will say this much: The series against the Giants showcased why I would have preferred Frnaklin over Kinney. When Kinney got in trouble, it snowballed (arguably it was not entirely his fault) and a big inning was the result. But when Franklin let the first two guys on base in the 8th, he was able to pitch out of the jam he got himself into. If I were a GM or manager, and I have to choose one starter out of two guys who tend to get into trouble, I'd be inclined take the guy who is better at pitching out of the trouble he gets himself into. That's just my thoughts on the matter. Obviously, Doug Melvin and most others here disagree.
  16. SoCalBrewfan Danny Kolb gets the save again?
  17. xisxisxis How about giving Wes a big thank you for keeping the Giants off the bases for the most part? A WHIP of .52 isn't going to lead to a loss very often.
  18. AJAY As I said earlier, the situation in this game is different from the one in the opener. Kinney needs to learn to pitch out of trouble if he is to become something other than a rehash of Jamey Wright. On the other hand, the situation today is different: The Crew needs to avoid a sweep, and that means playing the odds, and to heck with "developing" the pitcher.
  19. mls4 Maybe they decided it was time to go for a W. Also, to that point, Wes had pitched superbly, and is going to leave this game with no real negatives. Different situation from the one Kinney faced, IMHO.
  20. gregmag I didn't have many doubts about Obermueller, except for how long he would last in light of folks like Hendrickson, de la Rosa, Matt Ford, Manny Parra, and Mike Jones knocking on the door. EDIT: Looks like Wayne gets out of the potential big inning by inducing a DP. Contrast this to how Kinney fell apart in the series opener against the Giants. Wayne might give up a bunch of hits and walks, but he can fight his way out of trouble at LEAST some of the time. Kinney, on the other hand, often collapses into a big inning.
  21. I don't want to take him out before the 9th. The crew will need a fresh bullpen against the Astros. EDIT: Well, Obie's out, and the Crew now is threatening. Here is hoping Wayne Franklin is as bad as his detractors here say he is...
  22. They're hoping Wayne could be a LOOGY in this case... SBC Park is NOT Miller Park, and it is one where giving up fly balls doesn't hurt a pitcher as much... EDIT: And Wayne Franklin retires Podsendik to end the threat. EDIT 2: What's the deal? Are they pulling a double-switch? Wes hasn't thrown that many pitches, and the Crew may need the bullpen against the Astros...
  23. What happened? EDIT: Never mind that - a signle for a 3-0 lead, and Podsednik up to hit...
  24. rluzinski The way Wes is pitching (69 pitches through six innings), if I were the Giants, I would intentionally walk Bennett, and make Yost choose between a good chance to add insurance runs, OR keeping Obermueller in. Obermueller is on, but two runs can be made up if the Giants get lucky. If there are runners on base, Barry Bonds will pinch-hit. EDIT: Bennett walks... will there be a pinch-hitter?
