  1. Leadoff homer! Gotta love it! Up 5-3, bottom of the 8th. And in the 9th, we bring in Danny Kolb.
  2. Martinez is young and I think will improve as he gets over the jitters of being in the majors. He will eventually be a good pitcher. Some decisions need to be made as to which of the other pitchers can be "good" and which ones "only okay". At this point, we have one "good" pitcher (Sheets), and two that could be good (Kinney and Martinez). The rest are okay, and of those, I consider Franklin and Davis to be the best of that group (Obermueller and Rusch are a bit further back, IMO). We have a bunch of good pitchers working their way up, too (Hendrickson, Jones, Parra, Housman, Liriano, and Bruso). It's a lot better than it was a while back, with the likes of Jamie Navarro and John Snyder in the rotation. Ugh, talk about automatic losses...
  3. Strange Brew eh It's an excellent idea, IMHO. The way for a small market club to compete is to think a little outside the box.
  4. One thing that should be said in defense of Franklin and Kinney is that neither have missed any starts this year due to injury. Remember when we'd have a lot of starting pitchers on the DL due to one sort of arm problem or another? Franklin and Kinney have been out there every fifth game so far, and both should be pretty cheap next year.
  5. Brooks would be a very welcome addition to the OF - especially if he can continue to hit a lot. I wouldn't expect world-beating performance, but he might be an OK platoon OF.
  6. Hey, who knows, a little work with Butch Wynegar and Brooks could turn out to be a solid hitter/LF.
  7. Probably rookie jitters on his part. We'll have to see, though. It could be that Melvin and Yost want to get the rookie jitters out of the way now, so that Luis can be far more effective in the 2004 rotation. A well-earned day off tomorrow for the Crew. After that, it's time to kick the Cubs' collective butts.
  8. Bring on the Cubs. Bring on the Astros. Bring on the Cards. Bring on the damn Yankees.
  9. Well, no Harley for Brady Clark tonight... Just hand the ball to Danny Kolb, and we can put this game - and this series - in the books. Five straight series won... when is the last time the Crew did that?
  10. Damn... Royce got a hit... 9-6. Keep it up, Brew Crew!
  11. Gound rule double? Ump's blind... shoulda been a three-run shot. Hope Richie brings the runners home...
  12. And yet we are up 5-3... We get some good players, we could kick some butt next year.
  13. Hey, whatever Ned Yost is doing has started to pay off. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Is Luis pitching tomorrow or Thursday?
  14. SEABISCUIT!!! 4-3... let's get more runs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. endaround Take the $11 million spent on Hammonds and Rusch, and use that for: 1. A solid catcher to replace Perez and Osik for three or four years. 2. Upgrade the situation in right field. 3. Find a solid #2 starter behind Sheets in case Doug Davis is a flash in the pan or Luis Martines needs time in AAA. Did I forget the money we're saving by getting out from under the Leskanic, DeJean, Clayton, and EY contracts?
  16. xisxisxis So, we lose the opener, but we took the rest of the games. This year's club is better than last year's club. Next year's club will be better than this year's, if only due to the fact we won't have to pay Rusch and Hammonds $11 million.
  17. Doug Davis has a fastball, cut fastball, and a change-up, according to the Journal-Sentinel. He might have some other pitches, but I'm not too sure. If he keeps it up, and if he holds up against the Cards and Astros, then we may have a decent #2 starter. I think that the 2004 rotation, barring injury, will be: Ben Sheets Doug Davis Matt Kinney Wayne Franklin Luis Martinez This is probably going to be thebest rotation we've had in a while.
  18. go brewcrew I recall reading somewhere that Doug Davis is developing a cut fastball... If so...
  19. 12 games out, 26 games to go... Do you believe in miracles?
  20. Believe!!! You GOTTA believe!!!
  21. Doug has been cruising. Give him the chance to close this out. On the other hand, I think it is not safe to say that we have ourselves a #2 starter,
  22. I remember seeing the Brewers in the mid-80s do a few things like that as well. Usually the two co-conspirators on this would be Molitor and Yount. Yount breaks for second with the pitch - and the catcher tries to throw him out. EXACTLY as the catcher tries to throw Yount out, Molitor breaks for home. I SAW it work once - well on TV - against the Orioles in the 1988 season opener in Baltimore. Was one of the first of 12 runs we got that day. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Brady Clark did not do a bad job, IMHO. I'd almost be ready to consider him a 4th outfielder, with Jason Conti as the 5th outfielder. Both have good defense and some pop, so it might work. Now, time for Doug Davis to put this series into the WIN Column for the Crew, we go to Miller Park and sweep the Reds. That gives us a five-gave winning streak, and we're halfway to matching this past winning streak... BELIEVE! As for Keischnick... I'd like to see him pinch-hit more as well.
  24. Nine runs - we gotta keep this offense going! EDIT: Nice work, GLENDON RUSCH!!!
