  1. The Crew needs to be able to beat other playoff teams, for one. Second, the best shot at getting into the playoffs is to win the division, ideally avoiding having to play a wild card round.
  2. For a 14th-round pick, John Jaha was not a disappointment. For a team like the Brewers, finding talent in the later rounds of the draft is vital. In a way, I wish the draft was closer to 30 or 40 rounds still.
  3. After four straight playoff appearances and the 2017 near-miss... expectations are higher among fans. They should be. Since the All-Star Break, the Brewers aren't playing - or looking like - the team that was so exciting back then, and a lot of Brewers fans want answers and improvement. We've already lost game one of what I felt was a must-sweep series after the debacle of the 1-5 record against the Pirates and Reds. If they don't pull it together this season, maybe it is time for the team to take a step back to get a more competitive team in 2025 and beyond,
  4. The thing is... the power was still there in 2020. It's a good bet the pandemic probably messed with Yelich's average and skills and skewed things, but the power was there then - the ISO was .225 in 2020 - compare that to .272 in 2018. What happened in 2021? Not sure. In 2022, the Crew moved him to take advantage of his OBP skills and speed. The SB total looks very good - and might be close to 2019. Can the power return? I wouldn't rule it out. Braun rebounded from his 2013-2014 injury/suspension saga to have some Braun-lite years. I'd bet the player labs could do a lot to help Yelich rebound in the offseason.
  5. They also got Soto in the deal, so to be honest, we have no clue what was for Soto and what was for Bell in the deal. That said... to date, this deal hasn't worked out well, and with Lamet to the Rockies on waivers... the deal looks kind of underwhelming unless Rogers does a Boxberger/Moustakas and takes a longer-term deal that is team-friendly.
  6. This is a reality. The real issue is, how do you keep that farm system stocked, both for the players who will be on the roster and those who will be dealt. That said, Peters was a guy who was a high-average guy who had speed (8 triples) and very good OBP skills, Maybe a slightly faster Brady Clark - and not a bad option for a 4th OF.
  7. If anything, it forces teams to NOT shift. That said, going the other way, shortening the swing, NOT trying to pull every pitch... those are SKILLS and players should be able to LEARN them to some extent.
  8. If you're looking for better offense in center, Yelich is probably the best bet, especially given his hot streak.

  10. At most, Lindblom and Severino for Laureano. Otherwise, hard pass. Taylor's pretty good defensively in CF (2 DPs turned so far this year, lead the league). He's got power (without the aid of substances). Career OPS of .756. I don't see 28 points of OPS as that big of an upgrade for the price the Crew would pay. Call up Turang, use a soft platoon of Taylor/Turang in center if you really don't care for Davis (who's getting on base at a .365 clip).

  12. Even the best lineups have a #9 hitter. The question that is worth asking is whether the cost of Reynolds or Happ is worth the gain. The Crew already has Yelich/McCutcheon/Renfroe/Taylor in the outfield and DH. Personally, I'd promote Turang, and have him rotate a bit between SS/2B/CF, get Hiura up and make him full-time DH, and go with either McCutcheon/Yelich or Yelich/McCutcheon in left/center as appropriate. the Crew could even use Wong in the outfield (he had limited OF time in 2016, and didn't do horribly). Sometimes, looking in-house (especially the minors) might be the better option.

  14. Agreed. I see Turang as Wong's replacement next year at second. The question is, does the Crew extend Adames, or move him when Tyler Back is ready to bump Turang to short?

  16. Feliciano is also on the 40-man. I see Caratini as the #1 for 2023, with Feliciano being broken in. Maybe Reetz on the outside if they want to go bat-first.

  18. In essence, Kolton Wong, but for $800K a year instead of a few million. Heck if the Nats will take Severino in the deal, that opens a spot for Turang as an option in CF. Wong also played a little center, and wasn't awful if you want to limit Taylor.

  20. Bell becomes that indirect upgrade by having McCutcheon and/or Yelich handle CF, Taylor to 4th OF. The big question is avoiding the overpay. I'd send Gray, Garcia, and Jason Alexander. LF: Yelich SS: Adames 1B: Bell DH: Tellez CF: McCutcheon 3B: Urias RF: Renfroe ? Narvaez/Caratini 2B: Wong

  22. That Burnes isn't the one whose extension was announced?
  23. Put it this way... high-contact, low K rate, sneaky power, can steal bases, comes up at SS. I'll date myself, but Brown's profile looks eerily not like Counsell, but The Ignitor.
