  1. We didn't purchase round trip, but I flew to Long Island $39 each way last spring on Southwest. It was less than an hour drive into NYC from there. There are deals to be had, just keep your options open.
  2. As far as I know, even with the new brewery, New Glarus tours are all self-guided. Which is really, really lame. I went on the self guided tour at the old brewery and felt like it was a waste of time. The samples at the end were overpriced and also lame. I hope they get their crap together because the tours there were awful. That said, New Glarus is a neat little town in a beautiful part of the state.
  3. It's gotta be The Big Lebowski.
  4. They're out. My wife had it two weekends ago, so we had to go back last weekend...and it was sold out. The waitress said they'll have more at some point this summer. I don't really care for it, but my wife loves it.
  5. Lager, or maybe Hops.
  6. You can get it all over the state. It's a pretty solid brewery. I'm not wild about their IPA, but I've enjoyed pretty much everything else by them. The Satin Solstice Stout is really great.
  7. I consider myself kind of a burger nut, here are some of my faves. Milwaukee: Sobleman's is by far my favorite. Solly's, was overrated, but still tasty. I don't get the love for Kopp's. It's big, but it's like a dried out beef frisbee. Madison: I love Bob's Bad Breath Burger at the Weary Traveler for a non-traditional burger. It's seriously one of the best things I've ever tasted. The Gritty Burger at the Nitty Gritty is always delicious. Dotty's was good - especially their garlic sauce - but I don't get the hype. Elsewhere: I'm in love with the double cheeseburger w/onions at Wedl's Hamburger Stand in Jefferson. Had one last night. The Log Cabin in Howards Grove and Schulz's in Sheboygan. Both are similar to the Kroll's burger, but in my estimation, better. Hard roll, lots of butter, onions. Delicious. Kroll's has coasted on their reputation for the last decade or so. I grew up in GB, and I honestly can't think of a single burger place I love there. I'll also echo the Culver's love. I think a lot of people take it for granted, but the double deluxe is an outstanding fast food cheeseburger. In N Out is great. I also love Whoppers.
  8. I got a membership there because baby formula is so cheap. That alone will cover the cost of the membership. They have kind of a limited diaper selection and no baby food. We've found we can get better deals on diapers with coupons and sales at Target. You can find some good deals on plenty of stuff you use at home and food, you just have to be careful or you end up spending $300 on a bunch of junk you normally wouldn't buy. If you want to look around before joining, just say so at the front door. That's what we did.
  9. I can't help you with finding one, heck, I can't find any myself. But I bought one last year and it was awesome. We sucked it down too fast to have problems with it going flat.
  10. .I recently spoke to someone at the brewery and it should be here by mid April. They will have Fat Tire, Mothership Wit & 1554 here.Hopefully that's just the start. All three are good/decent beers, but I want more than that!
  11. My office building is flooded for the third time in just over a year. Anytime it rains in the winter we flood. This is nuts.
  12. I have a couple of new one's to report on. First is the Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. Very good beer. It won't replace Bell's Two-Hearted as my stand-by IPA, but it's a good quality hop head beer. Nice hop aroma and flavor. Viking Breweries Hot Chocolate Stout was a major disappointment. I'm now through with Viking. They make beers that sound intriguing, but they have problems pulling them off. This one is a chocolate stout with cayenne pepper. It was really sludgy, with an unappetizing yellow matter floating around (yeast?) in it. Ugly to look at, and not very tasty at all. The Tyranena Paradise by the Dashboard Lights Cherry Porter was also kind of a disappointment. It uses the Tyranena imperial porter as a base (which is a great porter) but the cherry is just not there. There's a bit of tart from the cherry, but no real cherry flavor. Not a bad beer at all, just not what it could be. Finally, I got around to mixing the Young's Double Chocolate Stout with New Glarus Raspberry Tart. Delicious, just as good as I thought it would be. I used about a quarter raspberry to 3/4 stout, but I think you could cut the raspberry down even more since the tart really comes through strong. I did see a Chocolate Raspberry Stout made by Southen Tier, but the reviews were pretty bad, saying the raspberry was artificial tasting. Sometimes you gotta do things yourself.
  13. Michael Scott...is that you? Edit: Actually, I like the HR person for my company, but in general I've found HR to be useless. I read a finding a job book several years back and one of their first tips was to find ways to bypass HR if you really want a job. I've generally found this to be true if you can work it.
  14. I just bought this 32 inch Samsung and I'm in love with it. Edit: I should add, Best Buy has it in stock at W. Madison, Brookfield and Menomonee Falls (assuming you're in southern Wisconsin).
  15. I have a charcoal and a gas, so I understand and generally agree with the arguments for and against both of them. I won't try to sway you one way or another, but as far as brand you only have one choice. Get a Weber. Unless you can afford a traeger or a green egg.
  16. I call shenanigans. You could see him hold back a smile once or twice. Secondly, Casey Affleck is making a "documentary" about his burgeoning hip hop "career." It's gotta be a joke.
  17. Another thing I love about my house, the attic is virtually inaccessible. I have a removable ceiling panel that opens into the attic, but the whole thing is full of insulation, including directly over the removable panel. I am not a fan of Brookstone homes. I've seen some pretty small aerial antennas, no bigger than a standard DirecTV dish (which I've gotten away with). Anyone know if they actually work? Or are they just for people that live near broadcast antennas?
  18. Ha! It's not the neighbors I'm concerned about. They're cool. It's the developer. A few years back my neighbor had a pretty sizable roof antennae and they made him take it down. I never signed any covenants (my wife bought the house before we were married) and I don't know if she signed anything or not. Any which way it seems we have to abide by them, or at least be sneaky in violating them. I hate neighborhoods with covenants. I guess I hate my neighborhood.
  19. Just as an update, I bought a 32 inch Samsung LCD 720p. I'm very happy with it. I'm able to play Guitar Hero without even touching the lag calibration settings. Great picture for a great price. It's maybe a tad on the small side, but seems to fit my living room quite well. Now I'm struggling with the antenna issue. I figured since I'm in the Madison and Milwaukee markets, over the air signals would be a breeze. We're on our third antenna and considering a small rooftop (dicey proposal because of neighborhood covenants). Madison stations, with the exception of the Fox Digital signal, come in fine. Kind of need Fox for the baseball and football. WMLW out of Milwaukee comes in decently, which is great because of Brewers games. Anyone with any experience know if we're better off with a small rooftop? Edit: I should add, WMLW and the CBS Station that carries their signal is the only Milwaukee station I'm getting.
  20. Jon Stewart said "Do you like joy? Bliss? Go see Bruce Springsteen." That pretty much nails it.
  21. The Boss has always laid the cheese on thick. Just watch any concert video of his. But he's a pro and still one of the best in the business. He's slowed down a little, but he still puts on a great show and is still recording some great material. Great choice.
  22. My sister drives past it on her way to work out in Middleton and she said it's a mad house, with cars stopping dead in the middle of the road because the parking lot was totally full. It might have improved some, but I'm planning on not even trying to eat there on a weekend for at least a month.
  23. It improves the lag issue, but doesn't fix it completely. Besides, it's one of the few games that has a calibration feature. I know the main problem with the plasma is that it is upconverting the Wii - which isn't in HD - and that causes the delay.
  24. I'm looking at a second HDTV for my upstairs living room. I have a big Hitachi plasma right now, which I like but don't love. My main problem with it is a lag that makes playing Guitar Hero and other timing based games on my Wii not a lot of fun. Long story short, there's no way around it. I've done everything tech support suggests and it still does it. So here's what I'm looking for, A 32-37 inch HDTV in the $400-800 range that will not lag when I plug my Wii into it. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with a TV that will fit that bill? Or know of an excellent site where I could get some info on this? I've done a lot of research on the internet, but I'm finding very little on that.
  25. The Isthmus had an article on that beer a couple months back Strong beer. If you love beer, you should have their page bookmarked. Even if you live nowhere near the Madison area. They have occasional neat stories about beer and beer reviews. Better beer coverage than any other Wisconsin newspaper. As an aside, Tyranena's next Brewers Gone Wild beer is a cherry porter and they're releasing a scotch ale - which I believe is going to be a regular brew for them, not just a limited edition beer. They also have a smoked porter with chipotles on tap at the brewery (no bottling, boo!). I might have to stop in some time to try it. Their e-newsletter, which you can subscribe to on their website, is always a good read if you're interested in their beer, or just interested in reading the rantings of their perpetually crabby brewer/owner. Good insights into the brewing process. I gotta mention this too. I saw Bell's Hopslam is out for the season. This is just an outstanding beer. Instead of just being really bitter, you get a ton of the hop flavor and taste. I cannot recommend it enough. However, with hop prices through the roof right now it was $15/six pack at Woodmans. I passed because that's just ridiculous. But if you love hops and don't mind spending, it's a great beer.
