I don't really want to post this here as I am sure it belongs in a different thread, but I would venture to guess that Fingers was typically used more than an inning at a time unlike today's closers. He wasn't even really a closer. I think his defined role under the current flawed relief managing "book" would be more of a middle reliever. More akin to Torres and Riske. Not by the time he was in Milwaukee. He averaged over 1 inning an outting but less than 2.
GTA IV is coming out Tuesday... Actually if you don't have a PSP, you might consider it. In case you don't know, it doesn't just do games. You can do videos, mp3s, web browsing, skype and shortly GPS.
Al ssems to get all his city info from talk radio. Yeah the county is screwed up now, but thats because its catering to Wauwatosa over the rest of the county
I could not disagree more. He pitched his $10 million closer. In a 3-1 game. With the bottom of the order up. It was probably the easiest decision that he will make all year. If there is a stretch in May or June where Gagne has saved 3 straight games and we are in the same situation for game 4, I would certainly hope Ned won't hesitate to trot Gagne back out there. He's a proven closer being paid to close games for us. This was the easiest decision of the year. There was no debate. Who cares how much Gagne makes? If he was making the minimum or 18 million, it was still stupid because he was likely the 5th best option at that point.
There was an attempt to switch it out with the Summerfest grounds, which makes a lot of sense to have that prime land used more than 21 days a year and would have given summer fest enough room
WEll yeah, but no question about when Stetter goes back down? I assume tomorrow with Gwynn then coming up. It still means no RH bench hitter when facing a lefty starter. And then when they really screw up Bush's pitching patter and he performs poorly he gets sent to the pen....
Yeah because the softball track takes away most female ball players and that means a different skill set. The most likely major sport with the first female player? Hockey. There have already been some decent female goalies in the minors
Well thats because Yost would rather hit Counsell due to platoon advantage than use the vastly superior hitter. Yes Counsell has hit well lately, but anyone really expect that to continue?
Which is why sending Stetter down makes the most sense right now. If they could have postponed Yo's start another day it would have been better, but sending Stetter back one day early is hardly a terrible thing right now.
Actually what makes most sense is to send Stetter down, push everyone else back a day in case Sheets can't go and just the decision until Wednesday or Thursday.
Keep in mind there is a difference between knowing something and "knowing" something. The Astros may very well have known his true age but only now they officially know. And players lie about their age all the time because baseball academies often have very strict age requirements.
My biggest problem is that Yost uses the closer whenever there is a save situation. 4 run lead two outs, bottom of the 9th, man reaches base on an infield single. The closer now has to get up because one more batter reaches base and we have a save situation!
