  1. According to the Norwich Bulletin, the Giants are moving out of Connecticut, and the Brewers and Marlins are looking at moving in. Scroll all the way to the bottom: http://www.norwichbulleti...on-littered-with-What-ifs The author gives no source that I could find, and since he makes it sound like the Connecticut stadium is less than desirable, I'm a bit skeptical. Why move from one bad place to another?
  2. Holy crud, is Ted Lilly going to pitch the second NO-HITTER in Miller Park history? 14 NO-HIT innings so far for the Astros.
  3. As always, early "Simpsons" best sums up my feelings: Homer: It's just a little dirty. It's still good, it's still good! [Passes traffic, jumps a bridge and lands in the water.] It's just a little slimy, it's still good, it's still good! [it gets caught in a dam spillway, and when the pressure builds, it shoots into the sky.] It's just a little airborne, it's still good, it's still good! And with two weeks to go, I'm not quite prepared to quote the next line.
  4. Thanks for posting, Glennron. I didn't believe I could get more depressed.
  5. Exile on Main Street.
  6. Here's another one BA missed: Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets and San Francisco Giants have announced they are extending their Player Development Contract. The extension is a two year deal that will extend through the 2010 season.
  7. I was at the game last night, which slightly decreased the horror of the Brewers' ending. Seidel was pretty bad, getting behind most hitters and giving up a handful of loud hits. It takes quite a poke to knock one out of Lake Olmstead Stadium, and the home run he yielded was not close. But he was not quite as bad as his line. A few of the hits were pretty cheap, and he was hurt by some weak defense. He made Angel Villalona, one of the Giants' top prospects, look really bad on some offspeed stuff, but Villalona reached anyway when Wilson couldn't catch a throw from Fryer, and things unravelled after that. Otherwise he might get out of the first down only 3-0. The relievers did well, though! Not much more positive to say about the Power, so I'll just add that the atmosphere of minor league playoff games is just weird. They hung red, white, and blue bunting all over the stadium to add some festivity, but it felt considerably less festive than any regular-season game. With it being a school night in September and with no promotions going on, there were almost no kids there, and the only people who show up are pretty intense fans. So while it was loud at the start, it soon settled into a more library-like quiet, and by the end of the game, there weren't more than a few hundred people left
  8. Conor Gillaspie begs to differ. Indeed, though my hunch is Brian Sabean did that just to show up Buster Posey for taking so long to sign.
  9. If anything, that's an understatement. Bumgarner ran up against Connor Graham, Asheville's ace, in the first round last Wednesday, and won 1-0 on an unearned run. Thankfully, the combination of his being just 19 and the Giants organization being pretty conservative about promoting players has kept him in Augusta all summer. I will probably be at the game tonight and a little torn about who to cheer for. While I want the little Brewers to do well, the GreenJackets have made the summer pretty fun: the team has set attendance records, and a championship might help the drive for a new stadium. Guess I'll just cheer for an exciting baseball game. I'll post later if I see anything worth noting!
  10. No picture from me, But Brewers' magic number Is now TWENTY-fOUR.
  11. Most annoying guy? It is surely not Lance Berkman! The Cardinals lose!
  12. Jaffe, a proclaimed Cubs fan, recently wrote an article about what teams charged for buying tickets in advance of games. He generally found that most teams are taking advantage of fans, especially because in many cases, fans have little choice but to order their tickets in advance. http://www.hardballtimes..../main/article/gouge-away/ In a final section, headed "God bless the Brewers, devil take the Mariners," he singles out the teams that treat their fans most and least fairly. He writes, "If there's one team I've learned to respect from looking at these prices the last two years, it's the Milwaukee Brewers. They do something very rare in pro sports; they treat their fans with respect. They'd rather grow a fan base than gouge one. Not only are they the only team to not have a processing charge, but also they have the lowest convenience fee in MLB."http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/gouge-away/
  13. Just off the top of my head, I'd say more like an Erik Komatsu-esque prospect. Lowell is in the short-season NY-Penn league, about a step-and-a-half behind Green in the Florida State League. The Braves are sending Sumoza to Rome in the SAL to finish the season.
  14. Diamondbacks lose again and are swept by the Padres. Dodgers down to the Nationals 4-2. Might be time to add the Rockies to the "Games of interest"; they can pull to within 4.5 with a win tonight.
  15. Not a big deal, but Kotsay is a decent fourth outfielder despite being injured a fair amount this year: http://www.ajc.com/news/c...otsay_traded_red_sox.html Braves get 20-year-old Luis Sumoza, "who turned 20 on July 15, [and] has hit .301 with team-highs of 11 homers and 38 RBIs in 51 games for Class A Lowell (Mass.) while batting cleanup."
  16. Isn't it great that we can argue about whether a .900 OPS for one of our players is a disappointment and how we're upset that he's not a 1.000 OPS player like he was last year? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif In the last two games I have seen people on the in-game thread complain that (a) Fielder's OPS is not 1.000 and (b) Braun lacks something in strike zone management. As someone who has followed the Brewers from Paul Householder through Alex Sanchez, let me say this is a great time to be a fan of this team!
  17. You think anybody on a Cardinals board is now writing, "Well, they let him off the hook. Got a feeling it's going to be a long night now. Anyone want to bet Sheets now settles in??"
  18. Great three-run rally for the Braves in the top of the ninth after they had two outs and none on. The Cardinals learn why Felipe Lopez was available in the first place.
  19. In a world in which 27-year-old Joey Gathright can gobble up over 250 plate appearances and produce a .559 OPS, surely some bad team can give Nelson Cruz a few months to prove himself. And since Mitch Maier, Gathright's replacement in Kansas City, just got hurt (by Zach Jackson), maybe KC should see if he can turn into Raul Ibanez, another marginal player who bloomed there at age 29. And they should go after for Micah Hoffpauir too. He's never going to get past Derrek Lee, and he's probably better than Ross Gload. You're welcome, Royals.
  20. They didn't really describe it on the radio, but the runner at 1st had to hold to see if it were caught. Cameron was right there, so he must have gotten it in quick enough to hold the runner at 1st from advancing to 3rd, which held the batter to a single. Thank you mls, and jhart, too. Only rum and Jackson Browne got me through the tenth while I was following it on GameDay.
  21. Can somebody watching or listening tell me how a ball to the wall (on GameDay, at least) ends up as a single?
  22. Best Donald Rumsfeld impression ever.
  23. Aramis Ramirez slid awkwardly into home plate and apparently hurt his hip and had to leave the game. Chip Caray will update us on his injury status. Edit: Hip contusion. He looks to be back for an 0-for-12 series in Fort Lauderdale.
  24. I prefer "going all Jerome Walton."
  25. West Virginia: RHP Evan Anundsen at home vs. Augusta (Marlins), 5:55 PM pre-game, 6:05 gametime Oops! The Augusta GreenJackets are an affiliate of the Giants. This series is quite a showdown and, I hope, a preview of the SAL championship series--Augusta holds a slim lead over Columbus in the South.
