  3. I know he's young… I think that Joe is the oldest of the past three radio announcers at the time of hiring. Provus was 31 when he came on board, and I believe that Powell was in his late 20s.
  4. Aoki is 30 years old and we have him signed for this year and 2013 with a team option for 2014 Because he's a rookie with no previous Major League service time, he's under team control through the 2017 season.
  5. Voting is really easy. Simply scroll to the bottom of the page, choose Sammy, and hit the Vote button.
  6. Just a reminder: posts pertaining to a single game belong in that day's In-Game Thread. However, it's fine to use an example from a particular game and broaden its scope to cover a wider area of interest. Since some of the replies above have started to move beyond the scope of one game, I'll alter the topic title (currently "Aramis Ramirez makes mental mistake") and keep the thread open.
  7. You need to use the mlb.com login that you used to purchase the games.
  8. Sizable cavities take several minutes to drill rather than 10 seconds. You definitely want to be numb for those.
  9. I thought that the full At Bat App was free, but according to the MLB.TV topic, it's only free with MLB.TV. You're definitely entitled to the broadcast on all of your devices. If nothing else, you should be able to listen through your web browser. If it turns out that a paid app gives you the best experience, it might be worth it. Definitely try the lite version first. EDIT: I'll re-post this link just in case it has anything useful. Batter Up: The best ways to watch baseball on your digital devices

  11. You might want to go to Mayfair or Southridge and do that in person. As a matter of fact, that's exactly the advice that the second techie gave my dad. The techie said to go in and have someone go over my dad's account to make sure that this fiasco didn't result in any overcharges. It's harder for people to be idiots in person.
  12. Time Warner Cable. My dad needed to have his cable box replaced. Before the techie left, we noticed that he wasn't getting all the channels he was supposed to get. The techie said to call the 800 number and the office would straighten it out, which seemed fine at the time. So the guy left, and we called the office. The dude in the office rebooted the receiver, and the channels still didn't appear. He said that another techie would have to come out. Of course, I was displeased because a techie had just left. When I tried to ask the phone dude which packages were on record for the account and which channels my dad was entitled to, he wouldn't check. He just kept saying that we'd have to wait for another techie. And he kept calling me "SIR," often several times in the same sentence. I captialized SIR because that's exactly the tone of voice he used; it was like what you'd hear in movies about the military. The next day, the new techie came out. He said that this wasn't a home visit issue and that the office should have taken care of it. He called the office for us and got the issues fixed. It was a matter of two packages not being activated. Looking back, the first techie should have made sure that all of the channels were working, especially since we noticed the problem while he was still there. It was the idiot in the office who really dropped the ball, though.
  13. It got "Tribble" in 14 questions.
  14. I was wrong. It turns out that my dad has the Digital Variety Package. Here's Time Warner's Milwaukee lineup. The Digital Variety Package overlaps TWC Sports Pass somewhat, but RSN Extra and RSN Extra HD aren't part of the TWC Sports Pass package. I agree that the alternate channel should be available on the same tier as FS-WI, but if TWC isn't going to do that, including it in TWC Sports Pass would offer a second option for getting the channel.
  15. I've only heard Joe at length one time, and because that was the night he teamed with Davey Nelson, it's probably not the most representative sample. I thought he was fine and his delivery was smooth, though. I've noticed some odd pronunciations, to the point where my eyebrows raise. "Wall" was one of them. I had to do a double-take to figure out what he said. I couldn't care less about an announcer's voice. Bill Schoreder has a nice voice, for instance, but some of the things his voice utters make me scratch my head. When listening to a professionally trained announcer, as long as the content is interesting, delivery is smooth, and the guy is prepared, I'm pleased. (If the announcer isn't professionally trained, I'll cut a lot of slack on the "smooth delivery" part.)
  16. I feel more like a winner when the game guesses right. [nospoiler=This is the series of questions I was asked for the thing to guess Ryan Braun.] Does your character really exist? Is your character a girl?Has your character ever been married? Is your character a singer? Is your character linked with sports? Is your character black?Does your character wear a helmet? Is your character's fame linked with football?Does your character do their buisness outside? Is your character known for wearing a hat?Does your character play baseball? Is your character linked with New York?Is your character linked with the color red?Does your character play mostly in the National League? Is your character a pitcher?Has your character ever been selected for the All-Star Game?Does your character have very dark skin?Does your character have a name that sounds foreign? Is your character a catcher?Does your character have a funny name?[/nospoiler] I think the quickest one it guessed was Mr. French from the TV show [cite]Family Affair[/cite]. That took about six questions. Bob Uecker came pretty fast. He was also a wrong guess for somebody else. Mary Todd Lincoln took about 14 questions. Amy Carter took about 20.
  17. Not every dentist has gas. It's great when it's available, though, and I'd definitely want it for anything surgical. It doesn't do anything for pain (there are other options for that). But as TracyThom says, it makes you not care. I've had gas at the oral surgeon's. Another (more extreme) option would have been Valium. The disadvantage to Valium is that you can't drive home. The root canal specialist I went to didn't offer gas. Technically, fixing a root canal isn't supposed to hurt because the tooth is dead. I had to ask for an extra shot of Novocaine, though. Routine drilling (cavities/crowns) shouldn't require anything beyond Novocaine for most people. I say that as a person who's very concerned about pain. If you feel pain when the dentist starts working, he/she will shoot you up again. About a year ago, my dentist actually convinced me to have a cavity filled without Novocaine. It was so small that it took about 15 seconds worth of drilling, and he actually drilled for about two or three seconds at a time. He'd have stopped and given me Novocaine if I decided I needed it, though. Anyway, Adam, how did it go?
  18. You might also consider the that Casey had mediocre hitting numbers in the minors and that his hot Major League hitting came at his peak age. Bill Hall was kind of like that.
  19. Without the traditional career stats to back up his case, Jackson as a potential Hall of Fame member really breaks down into two separate questions: should he be eligible and should he be elected? One might feel that the ban should be lifted and still not support electing him.
  20. I was going for Vivian Vance, but he came up with Ethel Mertz in about 20 questions. I guess that counts.
  21. One of the sites that splitter's article links to says that Jackson tried to report the situation to team owner Charles Comiskey but that Mr. Comiskey was too busy to see him.
  22. You should generally expect regression to the mean rather than a hot or cold streak to "make up for" small samples that seem to stick out.
  23. It depends on what you're trying to determine with the sample. If you're trying to determine a player's value for contract purposes, you need hundreds of ABs, maybe 1500 or more. If you're deciding that your well established cleanup hitter isn't performing and should temporarily be dropped to seventh in the order, maybe a couple hundred ABs will do. Often, you can simply enlarge the sample. Look at the small current sample and relate it to the one that's more meaningful, e.g. the last year or last three years or whatever. If you expect an .850 OPS from someone and he's hanging around .680 for a month, there's probably not much reason for concern. The thing to avoid is looking at the small sample in isolation. For instance, nobody's going to recommend making George Kottaras the cleanup hitter based on this season's ABs.
  24. Just keep telling yourself that visiting the dentist is a lot less painful than not visiting the dentist.
  25. I stared at the batting order tonight and wondered where the hole was that caused Gomez to hit 2nd. I concluded that there wasn't one. Without going to an optimized lineup, either Gamel or Hart would work for me. The one who doesn't hit 2nd could hit fifth. This was tonight's batting order. Weeks Gomez Braun Ramirez Hart Gonzalez Gamel Lucroy Pitcher How about something like this? Weeks Gamel Braun Ramirez Hart Lucroy Gonzalez Pitcher Morgan-Gomez
