  1. I think Toshiba should offer to take one of the hard drives back — whichever one is more convenient for you to give up. Had the problem actually been the new hard drive, they would have needed to take it back, 15 days or not. There should have been a warranty to cover that, anywhere from 90 days on up. As an option, if the old drive works, you could put it in an enclosure and continue to use it for something. This one from OWC is fine. You might be able to get something cheaper on Amazon, though. I'm hoping that you got $130 worth of hard drive. With the shortage we've had in recent months, prices fluctuate a lot. The silver lining is that RAM is generally cheap. If you want to get back to 4GB, that won't cost much.
  2. At the MLB level, I think players should be expected to be able to both hit and field therefore the DH should be eliminated in my humble opinion. I'm fine with it at the MLB level, but I think it hurts at the amateur levels, at least before the college level. At the high school level and below, I think you want kids to learn both hitting and fielding. In college and MLB, I think it's fine to accept reality and make decisions based on a player's skills. You'll note that I've left the minor leagues out of this. I'm not sure what's best there. You want the pitchers to get some at bats, but the flexibility that the DH offers helps position players get reps at the plate.
  3. It needs to be noted that adding or changing your e-mail address deactivates your account and that reactivation has to be done manually by a board administrator. Admins are notified by e-mail when a reactivation is necessary, and it only takes a couple of mouse clicks to reactivate a member. If an admin is at his or her computer, the process is fast. If we're not around, there may be a wait. If you'd like to get around deactivation, you can send an admin a PM or e-mail containing both the old and new address, and one of us will do the change for you. Password changes do not deactivate accounts. For security reasons, we prefer that members change their own passwords unless there's an unusual circumstance involved (like a login issue).
  4. Thanks. I'm seeing the same thing.
  5. To give some background, Brewerfan is on two hosts. The main site is hosted by the same provider that's hosted it for years, while forum.brewerfan.net is on a new host. Getting the two hosts to play well together wasn't an easy task for those who were involved with it. We think this issue is tied to something that's happening with the host of the main site. Please post here if you're seeing redirects. That will help us know how to proceed.
  6. I've changed the avatar size limits to between 40x40 and 100x100. 60px was too high to do a 16:9 image with a 100px width. (16:9 is the HDTV ratio.) I lowered the minimum requirement to 40x40 as 40x100 should cover an image from a wide screen movie. There's no need to try to make your avatar square on this system. (We needed to offer that advice at the old place.) As long as an avatar is within the size limits, the system will place it next to posts in an aesthetically pleasing way. Keeping things simple, when reducing an image, make the larger dimension 100px and it will likely work.
  7. This is being looked into. There are a couple of possible causes but there's nothing definite that we can put our fingers on.
  8. I've seen this too. Now I know I'm not crazy. Thanks for reporting this.

  10. Yuku has been having issues for the past two or three days. When pages don't load, check help.yuku.com. That's on a separate system and usually loads. It's currently telling you to try tossing your cookies and seeing if that helps.
  11. If someone needs to be slapped up for the topic title, I'm responsible for it. I simply assumed 2012, but the fact that there's no year on the page does leave things a bit up in the air. On the other hand, all of the dates listed are within the upcoming month. It's not like we're looking at July or November. Someone could probably contact either Time Warner or WMLW to confirm.
  12. It seems silly that they can't send the checks to the buildings where you work.
  13. WMLW said they were going to HD prior to the 2011 season, too, didn't they? One of our members had an e-mail from saying that. This time around, we have a date and a channel number announced by a cable company. That's a lot more concrete. From what I hear it will be 180p. [sarcasm]That sounds like their current picture. [/sarcasm]
  14. I'd assume that it would do the same as it does for other local HD channels. I'm not sure exactly how that works because I have my SD channels hidden from the guide. I'd guess that the out of town setup for broadcasts would be all set. DirecTV was already providing WMLW broadcasts on two channels, SD and HD. The problem was that the HD channel didn't provide an actual HD broadcast.
  15. I had bit of trouble accessing BradWI's link, so here's the pertinent quoted material: It's not that I didn't believe Brad. I just wanted to see the good news for myself. If you want to see the whole document, enter a Milwaukee area zip code. 53213 works. EDIT: I split this cool news from the TV Contract thread.
  16. Since the Yuku migration, it has become much easier to quote messages than it was before. Not surprisingly, a few issues have popped up. Please remember these general guidelines. [list-sp] Quoting multi-paragraph blocks is not reader friendly. Neither is quoting a string of a multiple nested replies. Editing quotes is simple and easy, so please try and make an attempt to better illustrate your point. Try to limit your quote to the specific line that you want to quote. If you choose the part of the message that best leads into your topic sentence, you're likely to make sense. Quoting entire paragraphs is redundant and cumbersome for a reader and may muddle the point you are trying to make. If, within your message, you feel you need to refer to more than one part of a post, quote small sections, then respond underneath each one. There is generally no need to nest quotes deeper than two replies. There is no need to quote a picture or any other media file. A simple reference will do just fine. We've all seen the picture (or whatever) and we all know what you're talking about. There is no need to quote it eight more times on the same page. Again, it's not reader friendly. Remember that Yuku places a number on each reply. This can be used in addition to the quote feature. The two work hand in hand quite well. Also, each reply has its own URL available if you'd like to create a link. Please remember that the quote is actually part of your message. Choosing what to quote and how to present it should require the same thought and care as composing the message itself.[/list-sp]Directions for using the quote feature, following quote guidelines, and finding message URLs are included in the Usability FAQ, beginning at this point. If you have any questions, feel free to ask by replying to this thread.
  17. I couldn't upload my avatar (size was too large) until I manually adjusted the size to 100 x 100. jjk, I think your avatar was still stored elsewhere. It disappeared when I disabled remote avatars (avatars linked to from other web sites). Enabling remote avatars was unintentionally turned on; allowing them causes performance issues. Anyway, a side effect of the 100x100 adjustment was that your Yo was crunched horizontally. I redid him with a 100px width while letting the height take care of itself. He's by your posts now. EDIT: If someone's avatar suddenly disappears, holler here and I'll retrieve it for you like I did with jj's.
  18. That's cool. I wonder what happens if the avatar isn't perfectly square. I'll have to try that. If someone already knows, let us know.
  19. MLB decides whether or not you need to pay for the apps. They could easily offer them for free if they'd like.
  20. Exactly, jj. It has to be re-sized first. For what it's worth, the [a=p765396]directions for Preview[/a] above are almost exactly the same as what you'd find in any graphics app. The menu item may be called something like "Resize Image…" rather than "Adjust Size…". Going a bit off topic, on a Mac, you can search for menu items. In the app's Help menu, key in something close to what you think the menu item's name is (in this case, "size" is a good choice), and the app will find the menu item for you. I rely on this in apps that have oodles of menu items (such as Photoshop). Screen capture: Mac Menu Search Another option is to use an online image optimizer. Simply adjust the larger dimension to 100. In addition to reducing dimensions, you can also reduce file size if necessary. Even choosing "Best Quality" in the popup can often result in a significant file size reduction. (Actually, I'd recommend "Best Quality" unless you're forced to further constrain the image's file size.) Screen capture: Online Image Optimizer
  21. I see it worked.
  22. Open the image in Preview. Since Preview is normally the default program for opening images, it'll probably be the app that opens when you double-click on the image's icon. In Preview… [list-sp] Choose "Adjust Size…" from the Tools menu. Change the larger dimension to 100, and make sure that "Scale proportionally" is checked. It's probably good to have "Resample image" checked too. Hit OK. Save.[/list-sp]
  23. I did some testing with avatars, and my initial thought is that the "Link off-site" option is probably less than useful at best and confusing at worst. Unlike the old place, this system doesn't automatically resize avatars, so my guess is that the off-site avatar is going to need to meet size requirements. It's probably best to properly size your avatar on your computer and work from there. Of course, that's easy for some and difficult for others. As I mentioned above, if there's an image you're trying to work with and you don't know how to proceed, feel free to ask for help.
  24. 2) What is your internet connection speed? I can't always stream HD content at 3Mbs speed (as I only "get" 2.1Mbs out). Also, if anyone else is using a computer or other internet device, that may steal from your bandwidth. I have 5Mbs, and that frequently isn't enough to do Netflix in HD. I've watched Netflix both via my computer and via the Netflix app built into my Samsung TV. The computer is connected to the router wirelessly while the TV itself is connected by an Ethernet cable. I don't think wired vs. wireless makes a difference for me as the wireless speed is significantly faster than my Internet connection. What seems to make a difference is that the app in the Samsung TV sucks. I get better results from a plain old web browser on the computer.
