1. You'd honestly consider batting Gomez in the leadoff spot even though he yearly carries a sub-.300 OBP? topper09er was trying to draw a comparison to the Giants. If he were actually suggesting that the Brewers use that lineup, he'd have used the lineup thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
2. I think our biggest gaps between posts are: Late at night US timeDuring beautiful spring and summer daysDuring Packer games
3. Based on the photo that AJAY posted, I think that wOOgiE22's mockups more accurately depict the video screen itself and that the original rendering more accurately depicts the ads. 4. Here's a link to the report mentioned by ilovebeer: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/114215589.html It states that 2011 ties 2009 for the earliest date that the Brewers have reached one million tickets sold.
5. Here's a side-by-side comparison, using the picture that AJAY posted above. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/83b1575c40594b0e4a91f07db6bd0e03ea39cd3.jpg
6. I don't have a really good eye for this stuff, and my Photoshop skills are lacking. But I borrowed a picture of the old scoreboard from Steve Garczynski's Twitter page and attempted to trace in the video portion of the new board. The red outline represents the video portion only. When I compare this to the pictures in this topic's lead, it seems a little large. But to me, the actual photos posted recently seem to make the scoreboard look a little larger than we see in the mockups. http://images.yuku.com/image/jpeg/b0a35d865390437c565b4fe40b4545bea697f49.jpg Am I close?
7. I see that this project currently ranks second.
8. Featured on the front page and stickied in Off Topic: Pepsi Refresh Project: Treyton Kilar Field of Dreams It's an excellent cause. If you prefer to vote via text message, directions are in the topic linked to above.
9. Teams like the Pirates and Royals scored better in the recent categories, even though they have been terrible since most of their fans can remember. Maybe the writer feels that losing in the post-season is more miserable than not making the post-season at all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
10. It's normal for upload speed to be much lower than download speed. Things are built that way. But as you say, for a 17 Mb/s download speed, 0.3 for uploading seems quite low. Only one other Road Runner connection has been reported since this topic was revived yesterday, so there isn't much of a sample to eyeball. In that case, download and upload speeds were almost equal, which is unusual. But that looks to be a business account, which could have something to do with the upload/download speed ratio. I'd call Time Warner and see what they say.
11. I believe Iron Mountain is the speedtest.net server.
12. That's from two years ago. Newer equipment is likely to have Wireless N, which is faster. As long as your connection speed is slower than your wireless capability, your speed should be about the same whether you use a cable or WiFi. I've found very occasional "burps" due to wireless, but that's about it.
13. I figured I'd bring back this old topic because it might be interesting to see whose connections have improved over time. Here's my home connection: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1111386360.png 4.77 Mb/s is pretty typical, but this test hit 5.18 Mb/s for me once. One time recently, the result was about 3.8 Mb/s. This compares to 2.92 Mb/s in October 2008. Given that I have 5 Mb/s service, there's reason to be happy with the download results I've been getting. Tech support says that my upload speed should improve if I rearrange my equipment and add a router for my wired stuff (the TV and DirecTV receiver). I currently have 25 feet of phone cord between the wall and the DSL modem. I should have the DSL modem closer to the phone outlet and run an Ethernet cable to the (unpurchased) router, which would be located near the TV and DirecTV receiver. So you don't have to go back to the lead to find the link to test your connection, here it is again: http://www.speedtest.net/
14. Fingers was in Milwaukee five years and played four seasons, missing one due to injury. Don Sutton, whose number isn't retired, was a Brewer for two years and a month.
15. It's hard to tell from the odd angle of the new pics, but it looks like the video board is missing a section that would go to the left. It looks off center to me. Outside of that, I think it looks very much like the artist's renderings.
16. I ended up bypassing Cloninger because his ERA+ as a Milwaukee Brave was below average every year except for one, but he's still certainly worth discussing. It's too bad that the game below occurred as an Atlanta Brave. Had this occurred as a Milwaukee Brave, he'd be better remembered in Wisconsin. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Atlanta Braves 17, San Francisco Giants 3 -- July 3, 1966 [+]Game Played on Sunday, July 3, 1966 (D) at Candlestick Park ATL N 7 1 0 5 1 0 0 1 2 - 17 20 1 SF N 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 0 - 3 7 3 BATTING Atlanta Braves AB R H RBI BB SO PO A Alou 1b 3 0 0 0 1 0 3 1 de la Hoz 3b 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 Jones cf 6 1 3 0 0 2 2 0 Aaron rf 4 2 1 1 0 0 2 0 Geiger rf 2 1 1 1 0 1 2 0 Carty lf 4 3 3 1 1 0 1 0 Herrnstein lf 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Torre c 6 2 3 3 0 0 6 0 Bolling 2b 5 2 2 2 0 0 1 4 Woodward ss 6 2 4 0 0 1 2 4 Menke 3b,1b 3 2 0 0 2 0 6 1 Cloninger p 5 2 3 9 0 0 1 0 Totals 47 17 20 17 4 4 27 10 FIELDING - DP: 1. 17. That worked. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
18. I like the idea of texting, but the I'm lost with the directions. Which information goes where?
19. Whenever I leave the store down the road, I pass a sign that says "Crappie Minnows." Yes, I know what it means, but the first thing that pops into my mind is that there's something wrong with the minnows.
20. I eyeballed the Milwaukee Braves all-time roster. The one name that stuck out as being worthy of discussion is Joe Torre. He certainly beats out his brother Frank. The bottom line is that the way the Braves are being dealt with just isn't working. A committee of about a dozen people should be set up to meet, evaluate criteria and stats, choose players, and be done with it. Regarding Al Simmons, I wouldn't be against doing something to honor the best of the Wisconsin-born players, but I'd fear that putting them up to a vote would be a repeat of the Braves mess. If this were done right, Andy Pafko might be worthy of inclusion. He doesn't really cut it as a Brave, but his career achievements could very well qualify him.
21. I concur with all the names above, and I'd add Bamberger, Buhl and possibly Burnitz, Slaton and Moore. When Bikage77 says "consideration," I take that to mean ballot-worthy (not necessarily shrine-worthy). So yeah, I'd think those names are ballot-worthy. I'd really like to know who's voting on this.... it seems almost like it's team employees or something- hence the high vote totals for Augustine, Castro and Schroeder. I think we've seen evidence in the past that team employees are among the voters. That also probably explains why Logan has higher vote totals than Adcock and Crandall; Johnny has been part of the Brewers "family" for its entire existence. Of course, the difference between Logan and Augustine/Castro/Schroeder is that Johnny is both ballot-worthy and shrine-worthy. I have a vague memory of sort-of-a fan vote being involved one year, but I haven't found supporting evidence, so perhaps I imagined it. They involved the fans one year, but I don't recall exactly how it worked. It might have been that the fan totals counted as one voter on the official ballot. This year, 57 people voted. That doesn't mean that everyone turned in a ballot, though.
22. Five hundred homers used to be an automatic ticket to the Hall; 493 would have been close enough to force a guy into the discussion. But now a bunch of guys have hit 500 homers with chemical assistance, so that benchmark is (temporarily or permanently) dead. Heck, 400 homers was an automatic ticket until Dave Kingman appeared on the ballot in 1992. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
23. It appears to me that the voters either aren't qualified to vote on the Braves or that they're not doing any homework. The only Braves currently represented are Eddie Matthews, Warren Spahn, Lew Burdette, and GM John Quinn. There were too many good players who were in Braves uniforms for too long not to have better representation. Adcock should be a lock. Crandall, too. And probably Logan. And maybe Buhl. Almost all of the names certainly deserve higher voting percentages. The Brewers probably aren't helping matters. Mantilla and Torre were bench players. That makes me wonder if there are names that are missing from the ballot that should be included.
24. I just ran across the term "celestially discharged" as synonym for "died." I kind of like that.
